[WWDC 2021] Apple Launches iPadOS 15 – Not Just an Enlarged iPhone Anymore

Apple’s iPadOS has always been very closely related to the iOS. After all, when iPad first launched it was running the regular iOS that was enlarged and optimised for larger displays at 9.7-inch. Over the years though, the iPad had its own development team, and the platform grew very quickly into something rather special on its own. In 2021 then we have the iPadOS 15 for the modern Apple iPad.

The iPadOS 15 really shows the maturity of the iPad tablet platform. It still shares some features with the iOS, especially iOS 15 that was also launched in the same WWDC 2021 conference. It shares the privacy and security features, for example. It shares the same Siri and on-device intelligence as well with iOS 15. But iPadOS 15 is a lot more than that too.

The Widget Life

  • Apple iPadPro iPadOS15 springboard focus 060721

For one, widgets has been improved on iPadOS 15. While widgets has been a thing on Apple’s mobile devices, it really comes to its own on iPadOS 15. You can now move and place your widgets anywhere on your home screens to really place the things that matter to you most on your front page.

App Library

When you place widgets though, there might be less room for app icons to be on your home screen. That means you end up with more home screens than you need. That has always been an issue with Apple’s interface. With iPadOS 15 though there is now an App Library. You can now delete apps from your home pages and store these apps for later use in the App Library, kind of like the App Drawer from Android. Actually, it works exactly like that.

Better Multitasking, More Productivty

  • Apple iPadPro iPadOS15 QuickNote Safari 060721
  • Apple iPadPro iPadOS15 Notes ActivityStream mentions tags 060721

Multitasking on the iPadOS is also improved in iPadOS 15. It is plenty more intuitive with a dedicated multitasking button that allows you to launch apps or put apps in split screen mode or in Picture-in-Picture mode. Plus, the multitasking bar allows you to monitor and access all the apps you currently have open. You can close apps from the same page too.

Taking notes on the iPad has always been the natural ground of iPad, especially when Apple introduced their Apple Pencil.  Notes on iPadOS 15 is a lot more intuitive than before though with the addition of Mentions. While Mentions is not something you use when you do not share Notes with others, it helps a lot when the Notes is meant to be shared with other people or your working team. You can create the notes while tagging another person to either assign the work to the person, or to point out the person in-charge of the notes. To make things easier to find, you can add tags too. Just a simple hashtagging of keywords basically to make the notes easier to navigate and to surface important notes.

With Apple Pencil too, iPadOS 15 becomes an essential work tool especially when you are on the move. With the Pencil, you simply swipe up from a corner to bring up quick notes to jot down things like phone numbers, or any other important information quickly and seamlessly. When you browse through the web on Safari, and you find something that would catch your interest, you simply swipe up to bring up quick notes and the option to copy down the website URL will appear. You can even copy sentences or segments of the website with links on notes.

Language Barrier? Not Anymore

The Translate app also comes to its own in iPadOS 15. You can now have a natural flowing conversation with other people even if you are speaking different languages now with iPadOS 15. Your iPad automatically translates conversations for you in real-time. Translate also now works with every other thing within the iPadOS ecosystem. It does not stop there though; your iPad is now also your language coach to practice handwritings.

Swift Playgrounds

  • Apple iPadPro iPadOS15 swiftui fullscreen app 060721
  • Apple iPadPro iPadOS15 swiftui submit to store 060721

To really fulfil the potential that the iPad platform has to offer now though is something Apple calls the Swift Playgrounds. The Swift Playgrounds is Apple’s coding platform the Apple’s own coding language. With the iPad’s Swift Playgrounds, you can either learn to code, or develop a new app from the ground up with the built-in SDK. You can even simulate apps for different platforms with Swift Playgrounds, which also adds a layer of productivity and function for the iPad. If you have Apple’s iPad Pro with M1 chip, this is one of the most sensible additions to the iPadOS.

Availability

Apple’s iPadOS 15 is now available as preview on iPads equipped with Apple A12 Bionic chips or later. The full OS update will be available later in Fall 2021. For more information on Apple’s iPadOS 15, you can visit Apple’s Website.

Planful Debuts “Predict: Signals,” a Native AI and ML Anomaly Detection Technology for FP&A

Predict Signals Gives FP&A Teams Unmatched Confidence and Strategic Insight to Drive Greater Business Impact

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 10, 2021 — Planful Inc., the pioneer of financial planning, analysis (FP&A), and consolidations cloud software, today announced the launch of “Predict: Signals,” the first of a range of product releases in the Planful Predict portfolio, a suite of native artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) products that will be released in 2021 and beyond.

Predict: Signals, a native Al/ML anomaly detection technology, eliminates the need for a detailed manual review of data, ensuring forecasts are accurate and alerting the business to outliers in data. The solution checks for abnormalities, identifies patterns, and augments planning and decision-making efforts with intelligent forecasts and recommendations, using a native AI/ML engine.

“Incorporating AI/ML into the Planful platform is incredibly beneficial to companies at many different levels,” said Glenn Snyder, Head of FP&A at Global Growth Holdings. “Predict: Signals has the potential to have a significant impact for Planful customers as they adopt this new technology. This range of Predict tools has the capability to dramatically improve the efficiency and accuracy of finance processes, allowing finance teams to focus on greater value-add and higher-impact work.”

In addition to Predict: Signals, Planful Predict will expand over time to encompass a full suite of native AI/ML solutions that enhance forecasting, empowering business users to accelerate insight-driven decisions in a smooth-flowing environment. At its core, the suite is being designed to help finance and accounting professionals make confident and intelligent financial decisions with greater agility and accuracy.

“The Planful Predict suite of applications will further modernize how finance and accounting professionals accomplish their work through three key attributes,” said Grant Halloran, Planful’s Chief Executive Officer. “First, as a super-powered digital assistant that operates like a million sets of extra eyes, 24/7, searching for anomalies in financial data. Second, as a technology that supports, yet doesn’t replace the skills of intuitive human planners and analysts. Third, as a frictionless aid that is native in the platform at the point of need, thus eliminating the need for third-party AI. Predict: Signals has the ability to augment a user’s efficiency in data signal detection by orders of magnitude.”

Predict: Signals can surface hidden errors and anomalies in huge volumes of data that may require further investigation by a human and present recommendations for corrective action.

“The ability for FP&A professionals to quickly and collaboratively use a wide range of trusted business data–not just financials–has become increasingly important to improve the business value of planning and budgeting,” said Robert Kugel, Senior Vice President and Research Director at Ventana Research. “The application of AI to planning will become increasingly important over the next five years. AI will enable companies to improve their planning and decision-making by, for example, identifying prediction signals that can improve forecast accuracy or quickly spot anomalies in plans or results.”

Global Trade Defies Expectations in 2021 and Drives Recovery, Finds Latest DMCC Report on the ‘Future of Trade’

The US-China relationship will be central to the shaping of global trade

Uptake of technologies will continue to transform global trade and trade financing

A new age of protectionism identified as a key risk

Sustainability remains top of the political and corporate agenda, despite the pandemic. Carbon pricing is set to emerge as a key global issue.

Full report can be accessed here: www.futureoftrade.com

DUBAI, UAE, June 9, 2021 — Global trade will rebound in 2021 after showing surprising resilience in 2020 despite the economic challenges posed by the pandemic, according to DMCC’s latest special edition Future of Trade 2021 report titled, "Defying predictions and driving the post-pandemic economic recovery."

To view the Multimedia News Release, please click:  https://www.multivu.com/players/uk/8910051-global-trade-defies-expectations-in-2021-latest-dmcc-report-future-of-trade/

The report released today highlights that global trade will underpin strong global economic growth in 2021 and beyond, with the US and Chinese economies leading the way. This growth has defied expectations of double-digit annual declines, which had been estimated between 13-32% by the World Trade Organisation. For example, Dubai, a major trade hub, saw its foreign trade growth rebound significantly in 2020, despite the economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the second half of 2020 seeing a particularly strong jump in trade volumes, of 6% year-on-year. Dubai’s overall export values jumped 8% in 2020, on an annual basis.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DMCC, said: "In 2020, the outlook for global trade was bleak as the world sought to grapple with the impact of the pandemic. Today, the picture is much more positive, as evidenced by the findings of our latest Special Edition Future of Trade – 2021 report. But while global trade has shown its resilience, it is simultaneously in the midst of profound change. Technology, changing consumer behaviours, the drive to combat climate change, and geopolitics will all be key contributors to its reshaping in the years ahead. In this context, our research puts forward a number of tangible recommendations to governments and businesses seeking to navigate this new landscape and accelerate the recovery from the pandemic."

According to the research, the most transformative element of the global trade outlook is technology. Blockchain, decentralised finance (DeFi) and other new and disruptive technologies will further accelerate trade growth. For example, DeFi protocols have seen a considerable amount of funds invested. Since the start of 2021 alone, the total value locked into DeFi has tripled from approximately USD 20bn to USD 60bn. As digital infrastructures grow, they will continue to accelerate a ground-breaking shift in trade from the national to the global.

On the geopolitical front, fears of protectionist policies persist and are propelled by ongoing US-China trade tensions, rising economic nationalism, and the widening economic disparity between lower and middle-income economies. Alongside this, in a significant development for sustainability and global trade, the EU’s drive to harness a carbon pricing practice, under the anticipated Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), or "Carbon Pricing," has been criticised as a form of protectionism, and as such, has the potential to further exacerbate existing geopolitical tensions. The findings suggest that while a "new age of protectionism" is a key risk in the wake of the pandemic and increasing discussions around US-China decoupling, outright protectionism will be kept at bay because it is costly, unpredictable, and impacts jobs. Instead, economic nationalism is more likely to occur.

While there were fears that the pandemic would see sustainability drop down the political and corporate agenda, that has not been the case. Rather, China, Japan, the US, South Korea and Canada are among nations to have announced more aggressive net zero targets. Further, companies and investors have ramped up their sustainability efforts and they are set to grow exponentially in the years ahead. For its part, CBAM has the potential to significantly disrupt international trade and raises questions around how to accurately measure emissions from complex supply chains. Once again, technology and artificial intelligence may provide at least part of the answer for companies and governments seeking to make accurate assessments relating to sustainability within their trade agendas.

During the launch event, global trade experts joined a panel discussion to share their views on the report. Panellists included Khatija Haque, Head of Research & Chief Economist, Emirates NBD; Roberta Piermartini, Chief of Trade Cost Analysis, World Trade Organisation; Yanislav Malahov, crypto and blockchain technology expert and Founder of Aeternity; and Marcus Treacher, Chief Executive Officer of CB Investment Growth Holdings and Board Member of Clear Bank and RTGS Global.

Sony Launches the WF-1000XM4 Truly Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones

When Sony introduced the world to the WF-1000XM3 last year, it was rated as one of the best truly wireless headphones that you can buy. There is little doubt to that claim and why it is so. The WF-1000XM3, the second-generation noise cancelling truly wireless earbuds from Sony packed arguably the best noise cancelling technologies in the world. It came with battery life longer than anything you can find in the market too at the same time without compromising on audio quality and fidelity. That is why we decided to own one.

To live up or replace the WF-1000XM3 then is no mean feat. It looks like Sony has done so though in their new WF-1000XM4. Except, the changes might not be too much around sound quality but more around additional features instead.

Integrated Processor V1 – Better Noise Cancelling

That is not to say that they have skimmed on trying to make it sound better. They developed a new processing chip for the WF-1000XM4, the Integrated Processor V1. It is supposed to be cleverer than the Mark III’s QN1e processor and more powerful, at least for this form factor. That also means better noise cancellation algorithms, supposedly. Alongside two noise sensors, noise cancelling is a lot more accurate too. The new chip is also a little more power efficient than the older chip, which explains the slightly more compact body.

Redesigned 6mm Drivers

To improve sound quality, a newly designed driver unit now boast 20% more magnet volume for increased low-end power for that much needed bass line. The driver is still the same size at 6mm though, that also means that it should be as power efficient as before. But this also means that noise cancellation can be even more precise with better low-end anti-noise reproduction from the drivers. They have also redesigned the Noise Isolation Tips to be more durable and more comfortable as well as reducing outside noise. The new processor even detects wind and automatically cancels it out.

Hi-Res and LDAC support with DSEE Extreme

Sony is known for their Hi-Res audio, so it was a little funny when Sony did not include the Hi-Res certification to the old WF-1000XM3. On the new Sony WF-1000XM4, that changes. It now supports High-Resolution Audio Wireless and all this is thanks to the now inclusion of Sony’s brilliant LDAC technology. With up to 990kbps of data transfer speed, high-resolution audio can easily be transmitted to the headphone with minimal loss. Latency might also be improved on the headphones.

DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) Extreme also finally makes it to the WF-1000XM4. The technology upscales music in real time on device to deliver even better sounding music than you are probably used to with Bluetooth Headphones. The technology fills gaps and restores any lost ranges and dynamics in music to deliver a richer and more complete audio experience.

Better Conversations with Speak-to Chat and Bone Conduction

Of course, the speak-to-chat function makes it to the WF-1000XM4. You can quickly start a conversation and the WF-1000XM4 automatically cuts music volume just so that you can easily order your favourite coffee or have a quick conversation with your friends. If you want to just quickly turn down the volume to hear announcements, simply place a finger over the left earbud. Of course, just like any older Sony headphone, Adaptive Sound Control is supported on this pair of headphones too.

Using the WF-1000XM3 for phone calls have not been its strongest suit. That is also about to change with the WF-1000XM4 though. Sony fitted the wireless headphones with Precise Voice Pickup technology and bone-conduction sensors to clearly and more accurately pick up your voice for calls. Additionally, beamforming microphones focuses on only picking up voices coming from your mouth and rejects unwanted noise from the background.

Compact, Comfort, Long-Lasting

Besides being 40% smaller, the case is also a wireless charging unit. That also means you can lose your cables and just place your WF-1000XM4 on your existing wireless charger to get it up and running the next round you move out. Smaller case also means smaller earbuds at 10% reduction compared to it predecessor.

Speaking of size though, an earbud’s fitting in your ear is everything to get the best audio experience. Sony’s Headphone Connect App now helps you find the best fitting earbud tip size by measuring your ear size just with a simple photo. A perfect fitting earbud tip also helps with long term comfort, of course.

Finally, the Sony WF-1000XM4 truly wireless headphones are IPX4 certified. That also means that the headphones could be your perfect exercise buddy. Just do not take it swimming. On top of that, you can be sure that your earphones can continue playing your favourite tracks from the gym to the office and even to home with 8 hours of use. The case gives you an additional 16 hours of battery life to give you a total of 24 hours in battery life.

Simpler Than Ever

Connecting the Sony WF-1000XM3 was not exactly a difficult affair, but the WF-1000XM4 is easier than ever to connect to your devices. With Google’s Fast Pair features, you only need to open the case and you are one tap away from connecting your Android smartphone to the headphones. Even Microsoft’s Windows gets some love with Microsoft Swift Pair for the WF-1000XM4 to quickly pair with Windows 10 devices.

Availability and Price

The Sony WF-1000XM4 will be available in Malaysia mid-July 2021 onward. You can get your hands on for MYR 1,099. You can also pre-order yours now until 15th July 2021. Like the older WF-1000XM3, there are only two colour options – black or silver. Pre-orders can be made at Sony Store The Curve and KLCC, Sony Store Online, and Sony’s authorised stores across the nation. For more information on the Sony WF-1000XM4 truly wireless headphones with noise cancelling capabilities, you can visit Sony’s website.

CellPoint Digital to disrupt payments in new sectors following outstanding success with Airlines

Payment orchestration leader will boost digital revenues in retail, online gaming, online education and entertainment & media.

LONDON, June 9, 2021 — CellPoint Digital, a fintech leader in payment orchestration for travel, today announces it is now offering its market leading platform to new markets, including retail, online gaming, online education, and entertainment & media to boost digital revenues through an optimised payment service.

CellPoint Digital will capitalise on increased demand for payment orchestration from these verticals by partnering with rapidly expanding brands to deliver better, more frictionless payment experiences for customers through its Velocity Payment Orchestration Platform. The platform is uniquely suited to address the changing needs of modern merchants, allowing for dynamic transaction routing to reduce costs and minimise rejection rates, and offering access to a global payment eco-system of about 500 payment options, including acquirers, Payment Service Providers and payment methods through a single integration point. As retail, online gaming and education or content streaming markets continue to develop, CellPoint Digital aims to export these efficiencies to these new sectors. On average, this means merchants can expect 10% increased digital revenue, 20% decreased payment costs and 75% faster time to market to roll-out a new payment method or feature.

The move comes after several years of expansion and innovation in the travel sector and a series of successes in 2020, despite the pandemic, which saw CellPoint Digital achieve a record volume of Apple Pay transactions for Southwest Airlines and deliver its unique Payment Orchestration Platform to Cebu Pacific. CellPoint Digital was also recently chosen by the Latin American travel brand, Avianca – the world’s oldest commercial airline – to manage its entire Payment Orchestration Platform – a project that is being referred to as the most ambitious of its kind in the industry to date.

As more customers embrace digital payments, sectors such as retail, online gaming and entertainment will face a challenge in having to meet the growing demands from consumers for better, more flexible payment options. Figures from finder, for example, revealed that Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services have grown 39% year on year.

CellPoint Digital CEO, Kristian Gjerding is excited to bring their experience in the airline sector to help merchants in new verticals: "At its heart, our mission is to make payments easier for merchants and their customers. [WWDC 2021] Apple Empowers Personalised Health With Improvements to Health App

Healthcare is getting more personal and as a result, medical professionals require more data than ever to effectively treat diseases. That said, individuals are also becoming more health conscious and have been tracking and collecting data such as sleep times, heart rate, blood oxygenation and more through wearables like the Apple watch. Apple is taking the next step in enhancing their Health app to allow even better insights and secure data sharing.

With the latest update to the Apple Health app on iOS, the company is making proactive strides to putting more actionable data into the hands of its users. The new update to health allows users to gain more insights with trend analysis. The new feature allows users to track and visualise data trends for 20 types of data. This includes cardio fitness, sleep and even resting heart rate. These trends allow Health app users to track and visualise health and lifestyle metrics that are important to them. The Trends feature will also proactively highlight changes in the data that may be significant to users. The changes will be highlighted and surfaced in a way that is easily understood.

Apple is also bringing a new feature called Walking Steadiness. The feature comes in the wake of an increasing number of cases where serious conditions and loss of independence resulting from a fall. A staggering 37 million cases were reported in April 2021 by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The new feature collects mobility data as users use their iPhones. The algorithms assess balance, stability and coordination using the motion sensors of the iPhone. Based on this data, it will return a classification OK, Low or Very Low. The app will then notify users if their steadiness drops below their preset levels and recommend curated, clinically validated visual exercises to increase strength and balance. Joining the steadiness feature is the respiratory rate measurement on the Apple Watch which will allow users to monitor their breathing even when asleep.

Apple’s greatest contribution to personalised health comes with its implementation of Health Sharing. The new feature allows users to share their data with others. While screen capping has always been an option on other platforms, Apple is allowing users to curate and allow visual access to the data to others. This means that users are able to keep an eye on their ageing parents or even share relevant data with their healthcare provider for better care and management of their conditions. It will also allow users to have better, more meaningful conversations with their doctors and allow more effective management. Apple is also including the ability to store vaccination records and tests in the app.

That said, Apple Health isn’t leaving privacy in the lurches. Apple is allowing granular control of the data collected in the Health app to the user. In fact, the company guarantees that the data collected remains private and secure. The data stored is encrypted securely even during sharing and is locked behind a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID on the phone itself. The company guarantees that it doesn’t have any access to the data even when the data is shared.

Paradox Carries Global Momentum into APAC, Hiring Kartik Krishnamurthy to Lead Expansion

Kartik joins Paradox with more than 10 years of experience driving growth for HR tech companies in Asia — first as one of LinkedIn’s early employees and most recently as Managing Director for Cornerstone OnDemand.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 9, 2021 — Paradox, the leading conversational AI platform helping global talent acquisition teams like Unilever and McDonald’s spend more time with people by automating tasks like screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communications, announced the addition of Kartik Krishnamurthy as VP, APAC.

Prior to Paradox, Kartik served as the Managing Director of Cornerstone OnDemand in Asia, where he executed the strategic vision and regional plan to support the company’s growth in the region. Before Cornerstone, he was one of LinkedIn’s first hires in APAC, and held senior leadership roles at ADP.

At Paradox, he’ll build on the company’s momentum in Asia — growing partnerships with the company’s current clients in the region and building out a team to meet rapidly growing interest in Paradox’s product globally.

"When we started Paradox, we had a clear vision for building a different kind of software company — one that helps clients across the world spend more time with people, not software," said Paradox founder and CEO, Aaron Matos. "We’ve been fortunate to work with several global organizations in APAC and organically grow our presence in the region. Kartik is a fantastic addition to help carry that momentum forward."

Alongside its global client base, Paradox also operates a large R&D center in Vietnam, and recently inked a brand ambassador deal with Cameron Smith, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour and the top-ranked Australian golfer in the world.

"I’m very excited to be on the journey to bring Paradox into this region," said Kartik. "With over half of the world’s population and 30% of global GDP, APAC has always been a key growth engine for global companies and I believe the timing’s perfect to grow the business here by helping our clients transform their people strategy."
