Xiaomi Mi 10 Series Breaking The Norms Of High End Phones

Just like everyone else at Barcelona, Xiaomi has been busy with their fair share of troubles. From WMC Barcelona being cancelled, Xiaomi’s continued plan of attending MWC from the February 24 to 27 and to Xiaomi’s delayed launch of some global products. So do keep an eye out for product launches from Xiaomi by the end of the week.

Even with COVID-19 going around in China, Xiaomi has still managed to sell out their latest flagship the Mi 10 and Mi10 Pro during an online flash sale that lasted only 55 seconds. Yes they sold out their latest Mi 10 Series under a minute, isn’t that insane? All of this is thanks to Xiaomi’s large user base and fan base, globally and locally.

But luckily the people of China do not need to wait anymore as the phone has gone on sale officially starting from February 24. Besides getting it Xiaomi directly, the phones are also available on China’s biggest ecommerce sites such as JD.com, Suning and Tmall

This success of the Mi 10 Series is a slap in the face for the high end phone markets. Especially when Xiaomi is giving better specifications for a lower price. Giving the people a better value for money. There is also the factor that the Mi 10 Series is the only phone right now that is running on Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 865 processor and knowing people, everybody wants the latest and greatest

The Mi 10 Series are the two among a dozen other phones that will be also running on the Snapdragon 865 processor which will be released later this year. So for now the Mi 10 Series is the go to phone to beat all other phones in the market. If you would like a further break down of the Mi 10’s specifications do check out our coverage here

Lenovo ThinkPad Laptops 2020 Upgrade – Better Working Experience

Lenovo has always been about giving customers the best value. Giving customers a wide variety of options to choose from to fulfill their needs. This time around, Lenovo has given the ThinkPad Laptops new upgrades to give you better productivity.

The updated ThinkPad features a new modern standby mode where the laptops operates like a smartphone. In standby mode, the system goes into low power and remains connected at all times to keep the laptop in sync with whatever that is going on in the background. This makes it really convenient if you have to work away from your laptop and coming back to it at a later time.

To further complement the innovation of productivity, users can quickly resume where they left off by using a Wake on Voice command. Instead of using precious time to physically wake up the laptop. You can now just use your voice to wake up the laptop while you work on something else. There is also now a unified communications function keys to enable users to instantaneously answer or decline calls.

The next upgrade is WiFi 6 connectivity. Even though WiFi 6 is not readily available yet, but this is a good future proofing measure done by Lenovo to keep in times of what’s to come in the near future. WiFi 6 not only gives better connectivity speed but also has better security. Do keep in mind that this is a two-way hardware upgrade, so you will need to have a WiFi router that also supports WiFi 6 connectivity to optimise its performance.

There will also be a more premium UHD, OLED, and Dolby Vision options to deliver the best visuals. Not to miss out, the audio department gets Dolby Audio Speakers treatment on the ThinkPad T and X series. The ThinkPad L series will only feature an enhanced audio experience from Dolby Audio.

Lenovo has not forgotten about security upgrades as well, so you can enjoy all the conveniences without having to worry about any security breaches. With Lenovo’s own security solution, ThinkShield. The laptop would come with an optional PrivacyGuard ePrivacy display and PrivacyAlert on models that have an IR camera. This PrivacyGuard ePrivacy display with PrivacyAlert helps protect users from prying eyes of over the shoulder glances. So that anything on your screen is for your eyes only.

All these goodies can be found with a new processor from both the blue and the red team. In the blue team, we have the latest 10th Generation Intel Core vPro processor and in the red team, we will find the AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 Mobile processor. The L Series did not get the same display upgrades as the T and X Series. The L Series has gotten a redesign instead. It is now thinner and lighter across the board! It also comes with Windows 10 Pro and a conveniently placed fingerprint sensor for security and convenience.

Netflix Bringing You More Features To Keep You Binging

Netflix has come a long way from just CD rentals to the biggest online streaming platform not only in the United States but across the entire globe. Netflix has been busy improving its services and features. So what does Netflix have up its sleeve this time to keep our butts stuck to our couch.

This time around, Netflix has added a top 10 list of what’s popular on Netflix in each country. This new label would be displayed on the top right corner of the show’s poster. Other than whats the most popular on the entire Netflix. Netflix has also separated what’s most popular based on whether it is a TV show or Movie.

Its been a while since I have kept up with the latest offerings from Netflix but here are some of the TV shows that I feel are a must-watch.

RIVERDALE

What started off as a murder mystery series quickly became a disturbingly addictive show. The spin-off of the Archie comic book series starts off with the mysterious murder of Jason Blossom, the popular kid in town.

Viewers were strapped onto their seats through a multitude of plot twists throughout the first season. The first season finale ended with a cliffhanger, luring all of us gullible souls into the second season. This was where the writing went off the rails, venturing more so into the realm of teenage fan-fiction. But hey, who can resist the cliffhangers and the hilariously cringy writing?

CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA

As another spin-off of a well-known comic series from the good-old-days, the Netflix exclusive takes a darker turn in this witchy tale. The first season is essentially the coming of age story of Sabrina, where she has to choose between being a mortal and a witch.

As it ruffled some feathers among the satanist community, it remains an interesting watch, especially if you like feeling like a badass when the show’s official soundtrack comes on. Though it seems to be going down the same route as Riverdale in terms of writing, it’s a nice, lighthearted show for lovers of the fantasy genre.

THE GOOD PLACE

If you like Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Office, you’ll love The Good Place. The show is basically a take on the afterlife and morality. Though chock full of actual ethical philosophy, the show maintains its comedic tone throughout the seasons.

The story starts with the main character, Eleanor Shellstrop being assigned to what seems to be the wrong afterlife she deserves. Eleanor alongside Chidi, Tahani, and Jason, the ethically confused quartet go on a journey of self-betterment so they can end up at The Good Place.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Hands-On

Samsung’s S10 Lite has already been announced in Malaysia. The new, more affordable edition of Samsung’s S10 series brings a long potent processing power with the Qualcomm Snapdragon855 paired with 8GB and 128 on-board storage. It has 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display and a triple camera array on the back.

Coming with a new white colour that mimics the mother of pearls giving it a nice reflections of colours. But the back does feel a little cheap as it is made out of plastic instead of the regular S10 where it came in a glass back instead. It still does looks good just that it feels a little downgraded.

The main sensor is a 48-megapixel sensor complemented with a 12-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. This is powered by a 4,500mAh battery. It runs on Android 10 with Samsung’s OneUI 2. It’s retailing for MYR2,699.

LG V60 ThinQ 5G Debuts With Dual Display!

LG has announced its latest flagship, the V60 ThinQ 5G. Just like any other flagship phones these days, it will come 5G ready with the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 processor. So, what else does this flagship has to offer?

Let us start with what stands out the most, which personally is the huge 6.8-inch FullVision P-OLED display with a Full HD+ screen resolution of 2460 x 1080 pixels with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. Wait,  hold up. For a phone with that large of a screen, it has a considerably small pixel count, doesn’t it?

Let’s take the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ for example. It also has a 6.8-inch display but it has a higher resolution of 1440 x 3040 pixels. The Galaxy Note 10+ has a pixel per inch (ppi) density of 498 ppi while the V60 ThinQ only has 395 ppi. This is not exactly great news for a flagship phone.

Source: LG

While it does not have a good ppi count, the LG V60 ThinQ has a little trick up its sleeve. Just like last year’s LG V50 ThinQ and the LG G8X, the V60 also has the same feature where it can come with a dual screen. Just like the latest buzz with the foldable phone, this is technically a foldable phone. Just that it does not have a foldable screen.

Other than that, the V60 ThinQ will be coming with a triple camera set up consisting of a 64-megapixel main sensor, a 13-megapixel module that has a 117° super-wide-angle lens and a 3D time-of-flight sensor. The main camera supports 8K recording and 4K recording at 60 frames per second with HDR10+. The front of the phone will be getting a single 10-megapixel camera encapsulated in a dewdrop notch design.

Next, we have the audio side of things. A good part of not following recent trends is that the V60 ThinQ will be coming with a 3.5mm jack! There is also a good part of following a trend is that it will be coming with stereo speakers. Now that is giving people the option of choosing between the best of both worlds.

Source: LG

The V60 ThinQ comes with 8GB of RAM, a 128GB of storage with an expandable storage via a microSD card. To power this phone and its dual screens, the phone comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery that promises 590 hours standby time with one charge. The phone can be charged using a Qi wireless charger or by a Type-C USB.

Other goodies include, a MIL-STD-810G certification and also a IP68 rating which means that the smartphone is dust and water-resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. There will be two colour options that are Classy Blue and Classy White.

Qualcomm Outs Unreleased Phones in Snapdragon Announcement

It’s not everyday you have confirmation of upcoming from smartphones from a source such as Qualcomm. The company inadvertently announced that a few yet-to-be-announced phones will be running on their Snapdragon 865 platform.

We already know that the Snapdragon 865 would be powering most of the year’s flagships including the recently announced Xperia 1 II, Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the Mi 10 series. However, in their release, the company unveiled a whole lot more including ASUS new flagships: the Zenfone 7 and the ROG Phone III; Lenovo’s Legion Gaming Phone, OPPO’s Find X2, Sharp’s AQUOS R5G, the Redmi K30 Pro, realme X50 Pro and Nubia’s Red Magic 5G.

The company notes that since its announcement of the Snapdragon 865 Mobile platform in December 2019, more than 70 designs have utilised the SD865. Some of which have yet to be released. In addition, the company boasted more 1,750 designs which have been based on the Snapdragon 8-series mobile platforms. Keep in mind, that they are mentioning 8-series and not the 865. This would include the Snapdragon 855. 855+ and its predecessors or possible unannounced successor.

So, we’re waiting with bated breath now as we now know about 16 devices are making its way to market with the Snapdragon 865 and possible 5G connectivity. These devices could possibly include Samsung’s Note20 series and even o

FUJIFILM X-T4 Launches With Stability Control

FUJIFILM’s cameras have been quite iconic and has been a go to for plenty of hobbyist and professionals alike. Their mirrorless APS-C flagships like the X-T2 and X-T3 proved to be some of the most popular platforms among photographers. There was a very minor issue with the X-T3 though, as modern cameras go. It does not have any sort of stabilisation built into the body of the camera itself.

Source: FUJIFILM

That is all about to change with the new X-T4 though. The new X-T4 comes with an in-body stabiliser this time bringing it in the classes of Sony’s α6000 series cameras. Do not get me wrong though, the X-T3 was a very good camera with superb image quality. Some say that the X-T3 was better than the α6000 series cameras. To a certain extent, that is true.

Enough about the older models though. This is the X-T4, the new flagship camera from FUJIFILM. It still has the 26.1-Megapixels packed into the APS-C X Trans CMOS 4 back illuminated sensor. The image processor is also still the brilliant X-Processor 4 which also shoots at high-speeds like the older X-T3.

Source: FUJIFILM

While it may not sound like FUJIFILM has fitted any more than just a stabiliser hardware, the improvements are more than you can see. The battery, for example, is now a bigger one. It now allows you to shoot about 500 shots per charge in normal mode. If you get the optional battery grip, you can bring the grand total frame captured to 1,700 shots. That could be worth a whole day of shooting.

The camera is faster too, the X-Processor 4 now has to keep up with 15 fps mechanical burst shots. It also has to respond faster with just 0.035 seconds in shutter lag. Somehow they made it quieter than the X-T3 too, 30% quieter to be exact.

Source: FUJIFILM

The FUJIFILM X-T4 also features a new “ETERNA Bleach Bypass” feature. It is technically a fancier digital filter. Except, that is is supposed to be better than just a filter. If you work with film cameras, you might know what Bleach Bypass is. It basically produces photos with low colour saturation but super high contrast; very unique and artistic.

You get more control on your photos now too. Your highlight and shadow tone adjustments can be done in halves instead of single stops. You even get to choose your priority for white balancing as well. To be fair, I do a fair bit of white balancing manually whenever I get the chance to.

Source: FUJIFILM

Of course you still get the brilliant EVF and vari-angle display for a more versatile shoot positioning. The EVF now features an eyecup with locking mechanisms though so you can keep using it without having to worry about misplacing the eye cup.

We have to talk about the in-body stabilisation for a short bit though. It is not the usual spring loaded stabiliser that we are used to. Instead, it is a magnetic stabiliser which also means that the whole mechanism is floating. The benefits are more than just sounding cool though. It takes up less space and therefore allows FUJIFILM to fit the same sensor in near identical body shape and size.

The result is added stability in your photos. If you have built-in stabilisers in your lenses, the result is going to be even better. Super steady photos produce even better and clearer details; who would not want that? The improved stability also helps with videos.

You can now shoot Full HD videos at 240fps. That also means you can create super slow-motion videos. Beyond that, you may not need to bring your dolly or passive stabiliser out anymore to record videos thanks to the in-body stabilisation. Yes, it shoots at 4K 60fps too. Wedding videographers and film makers might really want to take advantage of this. Film makers will also now rejoice with an improved F-Log function to shoot low saturation, high contrast videos for better detailing.

The FUJIFILM X-T4 should be available soon. At least that is what is being reported else where. We can expect the X-T4 to arrive in Malaysia before Q2 2020 ends. The X-T4 (body only) is reported to start from US$ 1,700 (MYR 7,183) though, which is more expensive than the X-T3 at launch. Still, it is a flagship camera.

Ultimate Boom with Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM!

Never heard of Ultimate Ears? We can forgive you for that. To be fair, the brand has been a long standing audio brand that has been building products for a very niche market; the audiophiles. If you are one of them, you should know that they make custom earphones that fits in your ear, and only your ear. You would also know that they are priced quite a bit more than just the average earphones you get out there.

Source: Ultimate Ears

If you know the brand, you would also know they make excellent Bluetooth speakers for the party people. The last time we tested the speakers – the BOOM, and the MEGABOOM, we fell in love with the crisp, natural sounds and its powerful bass. We loved the fact that they float in water too, and that its optimal shape means that you can place it in any orientation standing up and everyone around gets its effect.

We thought that the MEGABOOM was as big and as expensive a Bluetooth speaker can get from Ultimate Ears. We are proven wrong though with the new HYPERBOOM they just announced. You can see it in the website already and it is on pre-order form US$ 399, which is approximately MYR 1,688. That is around the same price of Sony’s Extra Bass XB90 party speaker.

Source: Ultimate Ears

The only difference is that the Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM is smaller, more svelte. It looks more like a regular trash can than anything else. That is not to say that it is bad looking from the photos though. It looks properly sleek and functional. It is supposed to have the low frequency power of three MEGABOOM 3s.

It is still water resistant at IPX4 rating, means cleaning is easy; especially when your friends starts to get a little crazy. It will also go on for 24 hours on a single charge to keep your party going all night long. If one HYPERBOOM is not enough, you can always pair it to another Ultimate Ears speaker to make your party even more powerful.

In all fairness though, we do not actually know when the Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM will be coming to Malaysia at all. Still, you can pre-order your UE HYPERBOOM and find out more on their international website. It looks like it only comes in one colour, classy black.

OPPO Find X2 Specifications Leaked Before Launch!

After the whole hoo-ha at MWC, OPPO too had delayed their launching of the OPPO Find X2 to a later date. But it did not take them long to set a new date for their launch. The OPPO Find X2 will be launched on March 6 possibly alongside with the OPPO watch.

But wait! The specifications have been leaked, you say? The OPPO Find X2 has been spotted for sale on SouthEast Asian eCommerce site, Shoppe. The listing of the OPPO Find X2 is listed by OPPO’s official Vietnam Store with a price at 40 million Vietnamese Dong which translates to MYR 7,310 and USD 1,724 which is quite steep, considering. But we will have to wait and see the pricing once it is revealed.

Other details immediately found on the listing is that it will come with 8GB of RAM paired to 256GB of storage. There will also be two different colour options that are in Vietnamese which we did not understand but with the power of Google Translate, we manage to get something out of it. The two colours are Ocean Blue and Blue Night Sea which we assume is green with a blue hue colour and the second colour would be black with a blue hue to it.

Source: Brian Shen

Scrolling further down we will find a screen size of 6.5 inches with reports of a possible 120Hz refresh rate with 240Hz sampling rate. Which will be exciting especially for intense games such as PUBG and Mobile Legends. But that’s not all, the Find X2 will feature a 3K display according to a tweet from Brian Shen who is OPPO’s VP and President of Global Marketing. This means that the display would likely have a 3,000 x 2,000 pixel resolution.

Source: Arun Maini

To capture the moments, the Oppo Find X2 comes with a triple rear camera set up consisting of a 48-Megapixel main camera, an 8-Megapixel and a 13-Megapixel sensor. The rear cameras are said to be using a periscope lens that is able to have a digital zoom of up to 60x. The front of the phone, on the other hand, has a 32-Megapixel camera. There are rumours that the phone would be coming with a 44-Megapixel punch-hole dual front camera instead though.

To power up all these fancy features of the phone, the battery comes with a 4,065 mAh capacity. 4,065 mAh isn’t exactly large these days but it should still be a decent amount for you to last throughout the day. All this power will be powering the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor that will be 5G ready. Of course, it will be using Type-C connector. It does not seem to have a 3.5mm headphone jack, bummer. We are taking all these things with a pinch of salt though. We can only confirm the final specs of the OPPO Find X2 when it launches on the 6th March, 2020.
