5G 3 years = 4G 5 years, Operators Have Achieved Success after the 1st Round of 5G Deployment

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei has convened the 5G Business Success Summit at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). Peng Song, President of Huawei’s ICT Strategy & Marketing, delivered a keynote speech titled “Diverse Paths to 5G Monetization, Accelerating 5G Business Success”. In his speech, he noted that the achievements made by 5G in its first three years are equivalent to those that 4G made in its first five years, and that leading operators are already celebrating the success of the first round of 5G development, which has instilled a sense of certainty and confidence in the industry. 5G will thus sustain this success if its value can be further unleashed in ToC, ToH, and ToB sectors.

Mr. Peng giving a keynote speech at the Business Success Summit for MWC 2023

During his speech, Mr. Peng noted that the global user penetration rate of 5G in its first three years amounts to that of 4G in its first five years. Operators reporting over 20% 5G user penetration during the first round of deployment have seen significant growth in mobile revenue. In the meantime, devices, content, experience, and business models are diversifying as more operators and partners embrace 5G. This is evidence of a market shift from risk-based to revenue-based decision-making for even more assurance of business success. Huawei found that fast migration of 5G users and traffic is the key: if an operator migrated 30% of traffic to 5G eMBB in three years, it would take less than four years to see ROI. This duration would be even shorter if the operator also deployed FWA and ToB services.

ToC: Differentiating Experience Is A New Paradigm of Network Monetization

5G networks use powerful capabilities to provide differentiated experience for different users. For example, operators can provide guaranteed downlink bit rates for VIP users and a good experience for uplink services. Operators in China have already begun to explore this new paradigm.

ToH: 5G FWA Is a Real Quick-Win Home Broadband Service with Fiber-Like Experience

By the end of 2022, 95 operators had commercially launched 5G FWA services for more than 10 million home users. With its fast deployment, good experience, low cost, and high energy efficiency, 5G FWA sunsets old copper lines in developed markets and enables home broadband access in emerging markets. Operators in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have reported outstanding results.

ToB: 5G Private Networks Are Key to Exploring the Enterprise Digital Blue Ocean

Mr. Peng believes that operators can set up extensive service connections with enterprises through 5G private networks, creating a market space for enterprise digital transformation that is three to ten times larger than the market for private networks themselves. This will also drive the sales of cloud, data center, F5G, and other value-added services. The current 5G ToB private network market outside China is developing rapidly. In 2022 alone, the total number of networks built doubled. This future potential is even bigger.

Mr. Peng concluded his speech by adding that 5G is not just about economic value to operators, but also huge social value. Huawei calls on global operators and industry partners to join its GUIDE business blueprint and further unleash the potential of 5G networks from “5Good to 5Great”.

Data support: According to the latest GSMA and GSA statistics, by December 2022, more than 240 5G networks had been put into commercial use worldwide, over 1,700 different types of 5G terminals had been released, and the number of 5G users had exceeded 1 billion. In addition, the ARPU of the world’s top 20 operators had increased by 10%, which is 1% higher than the global baseline.

MWC Barcelona 2023 runs from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei showcases its products and solutions at stand 1H50 in Fira Gran Via Hall 1. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, we dive into topics such as 5G business success, 5.5G opportunities, green development, digital transformation, and our vision of using the GUIDE business blueprint to lay the foundation for 5.5G and build on the success of 5G for even greater prosperity. Alibaba Reaffirms Commitment to Driving Digital Economy Education Worldwide at Global Partner Conference

Building on its success since its inception in 2017, Alibaba’s GDT program renewed collaborations with educational institutions in Malaysia and Singapore

HANGZHOU, China, Feb. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Alibaba Global Digital Talent (GDT) program last week brought together representatives of its partner educational institutions worldwide in a hybrid conference, reaffirming its commitment to driving digital economy education globally. The first GDT event of its kind since the pandemic outbreak, the conference showcased the latest learnings and achievements of the GDT program in promoting academic exchanges and talent incubation for global digital transformation and inclusive development, while also shining a spotlight on outstanding institutions, lecturers and students in the program’s network.

Open to universities and learning institutions all over the world, GDT is a flagship training program under the electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) initiative pioneered by Alibaba Group, which strives to create equitable access to cross-border trade opportunities for youth, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and women globally. It is also part of Alibaba’s talent incubation endeavor to promote inclusive development in the digital economy.

By providing educational institutions with teacher training and networking opportunities, the GDT program helps incubate the institutions’ own qualified trainers who are capable of nurturing the next generation of digital talent in their respective markets, based on a curriculum framework that covers various components of the digital economy such as New Retail, smart logistics, digital marketing, and start-up investment and financing. Its training courses leverage learnings from the development of China’s digital economy and taps into resources and best practices in the Alibaba Ecosystem. GDT also supports institutions in its network with student training and examination platforms as well as student certification.

“Human capital is key to more pervasive digitalization across industries. The Alibaba GDT program allows educational practitioners around the world to apply the underlying logic of Alibaba’s time-tested business models to their communities’ business landscape, in a way that will complement and augment local digital transformation initiatives,” said James Song, Secretary General of Alibaba’s Globalization Office and Secretary General of eWTP.

“In the past five years, the GDT initiative has cultivated 1,400 teachers and tens of thousands of students from 30 universities and training institutions around the world. We are encouraged by the local digital transformation that has arisen out of the GDT program, and hope to continue working closely with more aspirational partners to move the needle in grooming young talent for the flourishing digital economy worldwide,” added Song.

During the event, GDT signed agreements with INTI International University & Colleges from Malaysia and NTUC LearningHub Pte Ltd from Singapore, signifying an extension of GDT and the two organizations’ collaboration on local digital talent development.

The event also featured an award presentation ceremony which recognized excellent institutional partners, lecturers and students who have exemplified innovation and inclusiveness in their participation in the GDT program.

One of the institutional partners recognized was Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) from Malaysia, which won two awards for its academic excellence and social impact. Since becoming a GDT partner in 2017 – the first in Malaysia, UTAR has seen over 100 of its lecturers receiving GDT certification and close to 3,900 students benefiting from its GDT-based training. To further apply their digital knowledge from logistics to marketing acquired from the GDT program, a group of teachers and students from UTAR launched a New Village e-commerce community project named “We Care, We Act,” in which the students have identified and facilitated the online sales of over 30 local products – ranging from chicken biscuits to soy sauce – supplied by small and medium-sized companies across four Malaysian states. The initiative allows the New Village delicacies, originally available only offline, to reach consumers nationwide and even abroad.

In the coming year, the GDT program is expected to train 400 college teachers who will, in turn, cultivate 10,000 local students worldwide. It will also continue to explore collaboration with government and educational institutions across the region to incubate digital talent as well as help revitalize the rural economy – tapping on its experience of establishing eight Digital Villages in Mexico with local schools to bring the inclusiveness of Taobao Villages[1] in China to a wider part of the world. In the near future, the GDT program is expected to resume offline training and events to optimize trainees’ learning experience.

Since its inception in 2017, the Alibaba GDT program has been introduced in Asia, Latin America, Africa as well as Oceania. Currently, the global reach of the program spans Asia-Pacific countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Mongolia and Australia; Latin American countries including Mexico, Colombia and Bolivia; African countries including Rwanda, Tunisia and Ethiopia; and Kazakhstan in Central Asia.

About Alibaba Global Digital Talent (GDT) Program

Alibaba’s GDT program is a flagship training program under the electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) initiative pioneered by Alibaba Group and is part of Alibaba’s mission to make it easy to do business anywhere. By tapping into the resources and best practices from the Alibaba Ecosystem worldwide, the initiative aims to share the positive impact of the new business paradigm of the digital economy and promote inclusive development to inspire and empower youth globally. The program’s global network, known as the Alibaba GDT Network, is open to universities and educational institutions wanting to incorporate digital economy curriculum in the education and training system and develop young entrepreneurs and digital talent. Hanyun Platform from XCMG Machinery Obtains CMMI Level 5 Certification

XUZHOU ,China, Feb. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Hanyun Platform from XCMG (SHE:000425; the “XCMG”) has recently passed a significant evaluation of international authoritative institutions, and successfully obtained a certificate of Capability Maturity Model Integration level 5 (“CMMI5”).

Hanyun Platform from XCMG Machinery Obtains CMMI Level 5 Certification.
Hanyun Platform from XCMG Machinery Obtains CMMI Level 5 Certification.

The CMMI is jointly developed by the United States Department of Defense, Carnegie Mellon University and the National Defense Industry Association. As one of the most prestigious certifications in the global software industry, a CMMI certification is an important indicator to measure the engineering development ability of software enterprises.

The CMMI international certification system is divided into five levels—-initial (Level 1), managed(Level 2), defined(Level 3), quantitatively managed(Level 4) and optimizing(Level 5). The higher the level, the more mature the enterprise software capability. CMMI5 is the highest level, recognized as the “ceiling” of software development capability certification in the field.

XCMG Hanyun Platform had passed CMMI3 certification as early as 2017, achieving the comprehensive integration of technology R&D and quality management with international standards. This time, the certification was valid for eight months. According to the CMMI5 model standard, the evaluation team conducted an all-round assessment of the applicable capability areas and practice areas of the Hanyun Platform through personnel interviews, on-site demonstrations and document inspection.

After some deliberation, the team agreed that the XCMG Hanyun Platform fully meets the objectives and practical requirements of the CMMI5 standard in terms of R&D capability, process organization capability and quality management level. The successful passing of CMMI5 certification is another major breakthrough of the XCMG Hanyun Platform after being selected into the Gartner Magic Quadrant. The recognition of international authoritative institutions means that the XCMG Hanyun Platform has reached the international benchmark in regard to software capability maturity, software R&D capability, service delivery and project management.

With an emphasis on innovation, the XCMG Hanyun Platform has to date played an instrumental part in some of the world’s top 500 and key enterprises, including China Railway Construction Co., Ltd., China Communications Construction Company, Power Construction Corporation of China, Jiangxi Copper Co., Ltd., and Kunming Yunnei Power Co., Ltd. As a pioneer of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), it has led the way in the industry in this respect, providing digital transformation services for enterprises.

WHERENESS hopes to unleash potential of 360° media for virtual tours.

KYOTO, Japan, Feb. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Kyoto-based design studio ACTUAL Inc. (Headquarters: Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, Japan. CEO: Yuki Tsuji) is releasing a new cloud service WHERENESS that will enable any user to create and share 360° virtual tours and experiences. The service was designed for museums and cultural attractions but is already finding a wider range of users. The official website launched earlier this month and a beta version of the WHERENESS application will follow this spring.

WHERENESS official website:  https://whereness.io/en

About WHERENESS

WHERENESS is a web-based cloud application that enables users to transform 360° media into interactive tours and experiences, with no special skills required.

After uploading any 360° media, users can plot a route for visitors to follow using the simple editing tools. Users can also embed text and two-dimensional images in the 360° space as they recreate an experience virtually.

WHERENESS works in a web browser and all data is saved in the cloud, meaning it can be accessed from anywhere with no locally stored files. Simultaneous online editing in teams is also being added as a feature.

Once edited, virtual experiences can be shared via URL and accessed through the web browser on any device such as a smartphone or PC. WHERENESS also supports sharing within closed groups and is the only service of its type to include paid ticketing options.

By enabling users to edit, host and share virtual experiences in the cloud, WHERENESS offers an unprecedented way for any cultural organization or physical location to simultaneously archive and share its story with the world.

Background to the Launch

Worldwide there are currently more than 100,000 art museums (*1), 2,000 art festivals, and 296,000 galleries. Using an approximate measure of frequency (*2), this produces a total of around 1.95 million exhibitions held each year. Most of these exhibitions will be dismantled after a few weeks or months, with no way to preserve the experience for future generations.

In 2017, ACTUAL Inc. joined an exhibition archive project called ART360° (Art Three Sixty) that proposes a future in which past events and artistic works are recorded and available for playback using 360° media.

One reason 360° video archiving has yet to become widespread is the high cost of production. ACTUAL Inc. realized that by lowering the cost of editing, storing and distributing 360° media, it could give more people richer ways to experience the past. These experiences can change the lives of people in the present and even improve our world today. This realization led to the development of WHERENESS.

*1 https://www.statista.com/statistics/1201800/number-of-museums-worldwide-by-region/
*2 Based on 8 annual exhibitions per art museum; 10 exhibitions per art festival; 4 annual exhibitions per gallery.

WHERENESS: An Overview

Three standout features of WHERENESS make it especially suitable for cultural organizations of all sizes:

Support for 360° video

Most applications for creating virtual tours (e.g. Street View) allow users to record and share still images only. WHERENESS enables users to upload 360° video so that experiences can include a time axis – ideal for installations and performances.

Simplified workflow

Most 360° video files are heavy and require long wait-times and high processor-power when editing. WHERENESS enables users to edit files in the cloud and export files more quickly, reducing time spent editing by around 75% while also cutting costs.

Income from ticket sales

Applications for creating virtual tours are typically designed for the real-estate market and offer no way to charge viewers for access. WHERENESS includes paid ticketing options for virtual museum tours and in future will enable actual sales of artworks and other objects in virtual space, creating additional income streams for users.

Service Availability

A Beta release is scheduled for spring 2023. WHERENESS is now accepting enquiries from potential Beta users.

Future Developments

Following a beta release of WHERENESS in spring 2023, there are plans to implement VR headset support, team management functions, timeline pop-ups, and audience analysis and reporting functions as these become necessary.

ACTUAL Inc. is also seeking the following partners:

  • Video production companies which already offer 360° recording, or are considering it.
  • Creators who already use 360° recording, or are considering it.
  • Manufacturers and distributors seeking to cooperate in developing sales channels.
