Samsung’s New Galaxy Z Fold4 Unpacked With More Productivity-Focused Features

It would seem like the Galaxy Note needed to step aside to make way for the ultimate powerhouse productivity series. What exactly is it? The Galaxy Z Fold series of course. Samsung is packing even more features into its Galaxy Z Fold series to gear it up for even better productivity. The Galaxy Z Fold4 is a step in that direction.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 011

The new Galaxy Z Fold4 doesn’t bring a lot of changes in terms of design. However, it brings updated specifications that make it more in line with Samsung’s flagship smartphones than ever before. Samsung has also made design optimisations which have resulted in thinner bezels and a slimmer hinge as well.

First Foldable with Android L-Based OneUI 4.1.1 with a Productivity Power-up

Under the hood, the Z Fold4 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. In addition to the capable processor and ample RAM and storage, the Galaxy Z Fold4 will be the first device to ship with OneUI 4.1.1 based on Android 12L. The new version of Android brings Android optimisations for large displays which include better app scaling, optimised display layouts and also performance optimisations.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 018

Of course, Samsung has also added features to the mix which bring a new level of productivity. The new OneUI interface brings a Taskbar to the interface akin to the one you’re used to on your PCs. This taskbar will house your favourite and recent apps. It will allow you to switch between them with a single interaction. The Fold4 also brings new swipe gestures which allow you to multitask even easier. You’ll be able to resize full-screen apps into the windowed mode or split-screen mode with a single swipe.

In addition, Samsung has partnered with Google and Microsoft for better app compatibility. Google apps will have drag-and-drop functionality on the Fold4. You will be able to quickly drag and drop links, photos and more from one app to the other. Microsoft’s Office suite and Outlook will now also take full advantage of the foldable’s 7.6-inch QXGA and 6.2-inch HD+ displays. The apps have been optimised to take advantage of the foldable display. Increasing the amount of information shows accordingly.

The Fold4 also continues to support the S Pen. However, it doesn’t have a dedicated slot like the S22 Ultra. Samsung has opted to continue supporting S Pen stowage with dedicated accessories and a Fold Edition of the S Pen. The Fold4 will support both the updated S Pen and also previous editions of the S Pen.

Flagship Class Cameras with Nightography

Samsung is also infusing the Galaxy Z Fold4 with its flagship DNA. This includes the camera setup on the foldable. The Z Fold4 will have 30X Space Zoom this year which puts it on par with the Galaxy S22 and S22+.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 017

The Fold4 will adopt a similar camera setup with a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor as the main sensor. This is complemented by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. This is essentially the same camera setup as the S22 and S22+ complete with Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. On the front cover, there’s a 10-megapixel selfie camera while the main display continues to have a 4-megapixel under-display camera (UDC). Samsung claims that the UDC has been updated and functions better compared to the Fold3.

Of course, Samsung is also bringing all the bells and whistles which come with the camera setup. This includes Nightography.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy Fold4 will be available in Gray Green, Beige and Phantom Black. It will be available off the shelf with 256GB and 512GB of storage for MYR6,799 and MYR7,299 respectively.

There is also an exclusive Burgundy colour which will be available only on Samsung’s official website as well as a 1TB version which will retail at MYR8,299.

Samsung’s New Galaxy Z Flip4 Launches with BESPOKE Customization

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is arguably the most popular foldable smartphone series to date. With the introduction of the Z Flip3 last year, the smartphone saw an increased adoption worldwide. Even in Malaysia, the foldable has found its space in the hands of users.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 007

The Galaxy Z Flip4 builds on the successes of the Flip3; making smaller, minute changes to optimise durability and use features. The smartphone has a smaller footprint thanks mostly to its slimmer hinge and bezels. Aside from that, it would seem like the smartphone is the exact same device from last year. However, the smaller bezels and hinge contribute to a better in-hand feel and a more immersive user experience.

Flagship Class Specifications

This year’s Z Flip4 also comes with a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. Like previous entries into the Z Flip series, the Z Flip 4 will not be supporting additional memory with a microSD card.

When it comes to displays, the smartphone comes with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate. The Infinity Flex Display comes with an FHD+ resolution of 2640×1080 pixels in a 22:9 aspect ratio. On the front cover, the display is a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED Display with a 260×512 pixel display.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 022

On the camera front, the Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with a dual camera setup for its main shooter. This comes with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera for its main sensor. This sensor has an f/1.8 aperture, 83˚ field of view and a 1.8μm pixel size. It is also equipped with Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. This is complemented by a 12-megapixel Ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, 123˚ field of view and a 1.8μm pixel size. On the front is a 10-megapixel Selfie camera with an f2.4, 1.22μm pixel size and an 80˚ field of view.

The smartphone runs on a 3,700mAh battery which supports 25W super fast charging. Samsung is touting a 50% charge in 30 minutes. It also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless Power Share. Similar to the Galaxy Z Fold4, the Z Flip4 comes with IPX8 water and dust resistance and has Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection.

Software and Features That Up the Ante

Of course, when it comes to the Z Flip4, it cannot only be about the specifications. Samsung has baked in a whole lot of features into the software this time around. Many of these features made their debut with the Galaxy S22 series and continue to be included in the Z Flip4’s OneUI 4.1.1.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 009

One such feature is Nightography. The feature, powered by Galaxy AI brings a whole new meaning to night photography on Samsung devices. It allows stunning photos to be taken in dark, low-light situations. Galaxy AI takes multiple exposures and composites them into a stunning final image.

Together with that hallmark camera feature, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is also introducing FlexCam. FlexCam allows users to use the camera in multiple different orientations and angles thanks to the hinge of the Z Flip4. In addition, users are also able to hold the smartphone like a handicam for better angles and control while shooting. It also allows you to take photos and videos hands-free.

Personalise Your Own BESPOKE Edition Galaxy Z Flip4

After what looks to be a successful staged introduction of their BESPOKE edition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 will launch with BESPOKE customisation in select countries. For the first time, it will be available in Malaysia as well.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 BESPOKE Edition will offer custom designs of the smartphone. Users will be able to choose from a selection of glass backs, fronts and frame options. Users will be able to choose from Black, Silver, or Gold frames and Yellow, White, Navy, Khaki or Red face and back plates depending on your region. There are a total of 75 combinations available for the BESPOKE Edition.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy Z Flip4 will be available in four colours off the shelf: Bora Purple, Blue, Pink Gold and Graphite. Users will be able to t choose between 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions. The BESPOKE Edition will only be available in 256GB. Prices are as follows:

Samsung’s New Streamlined Galaxy Watch5 series Brings Advanced Sensors &Tracking

Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch5 series is a fresh new approach to how the company looks to differentiate its wearables. The lineup was once more geared towards being a middle point for technology buffs, fashionistas and fitness enthusiasts, now Samsung is redefining its outlook with the Galaxy Watch5. This year’s offering comes with two variants (so far): the Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 003

Both smartwatches are geared toward people looking to make sense and keep track of their health. Samsung has equipped the smartwatches with an updated BioActive sensor. Like its predecessor, the BioActive Sensor continues to come with a dedicated chip and the Optical Heart Rate and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis sensors. However, on the new Watch5 series, the sensor has an increased surface area with more direct contact with the user’s wrist. Thanks to this, you’ll be able to track your blood oxygenation, heart rate and even stress levels more accurately.

Together with improved measurements, users of the new Galaxy Watch5 series will also be able to more insights with the new Body Composition measurement tool. This tool takes a snapshot of the users’ health by breaking down the percentage of body weight which is your bones, fat and, of course, muscle mass. Using this information, Samsung’s Health app will then be able to recommend and tailor personalised workouts as well as track their progress towards their goals.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 004

Like the Galaxy Watches before, the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro will both be able to track sleep. Additionally, they will be able to use the information from tracking and provide Sleep Scores and Profiles. This information can then be used to help users get more rested sleep. These Sleep Profiles will also be able to tie in with Samsung’s SmartThings platform and intelligently adjust and optimise your environment for better sleep. The new smartwatches also come with enhanced fall detection which notifies an emergency contact should the wearer stumble and fall.

The Galaxy Watch5 series comes with the new Exynos W920 dual-core processor which is clocked at 1.18 GHz. It also has 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. In addition to the BioActive Sensor, the smartwatches come equipped with an accelerometer, barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor and Light Sensor. The series is also rated with MIL-STD-810H durability and IP68 water and dust resistance.

Differentiating Enthusiasts & Pros

With all the similarities out of the way, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro differentiate their users with one key feature: GPX. This feature allows you to plot your runs or routes for your workout. You will be able to download routes from your forums or share them with your friends. The maps can be uploaded directly from your phone or computer onto the Galaxy Watch5 Pro.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 006

In addition, the Watch5 Pro comes with enhanced durability thanks to Sapphire Crystal and its durable titanium casing compared to the Armor Aluminium of the Watch5. Even its protruded bezel is designed to be more rugged and protect the display of the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro also comes with a more sporty D-Buckle Sport Band out of the box.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy Watch5 will be available in standard 40mm and larger 44mm sizes. The former will be available in Graphite, Pink Gold and Silver with Samsung’s signature Bora Purple straps. The larger 44mm size will be available in Graphite, Sapphire and Silver. Prices will start from MYR1,099 for the Bluetooth version.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 002

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro will be able available in a single 45mm size in either Gray Titanium or Black Titanium. The Watch5 Pro will be priced from MYR1,899 for the Bluetooth version.

SHENZHEN, China, Aug. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — From its headquarters in Shenzhen, China, on August 4, 2022, Absen launched its latest breakthrough product series, Micro LED KLCOB, in a livestream event viewed by over 300 stakeholders across the world. KLCOB
KLCOB

The New Era of Micro LED

Jessica Golding explained that advancements in LED technology over recent years and the acceleration in 5G + 8K technology, have ushered in the Era of Micro LED, once considered the future of displays. Actively developing IMD and COB technologies since 2016, Absen’s depth of knowledge honed through two generations of Micro LED products launched to global success by 2021, paves the way for the groundbreaking KLCOB series.

New trends in display

Presenting insights into the future trend of Micro LED display products, Ruben Rengel predicted accelerated replacement of traditional technology, as well as a 34.2% compound growth rate in market size over the next four years. Absen anticipates an expansion in channels of distribution by 2023 due to COB/MIP dual line technology, large-scale all-in-one screen sizes and pixel pitch reduction to 0.5mm.

To Absen’s value added partners who play a vital role in Absen’s go to market strategy, Ruben promised, “As the global leading LED product and service provider, we have spared no effort in product innovation.”

The product Launch

Darren Banks, Absen’s Industry Development Director of Corporate, took up the mantle to deliver the detail of the product innovation with the product launch itself.

A New Era of Image Quality

The key to Absen’s new KLCOB display, which combines extraordinary deep blacks with brilliant image, strong against impact – as well dust and moisture resistant – and maintaining cool for longer viewing periods, is Absen’s flip chip technology.

The technology offers lower power consumption at the same brightness, high contrast and high brightness uninterrupted by shadows or other obstacles, for a display with triple contrast and a screen four times stronger than traditional LED, 40% more power efficient with reliability doubled. A screen radiant and robust for business settings such as conference room, lobby, TV studio and beyond.

KLCOB’s black surface coating brings amazing black consistency improving the visual performance to an unprecedented level for greater viewer immersion but without the glare and reflection. The non-glare surface light source brings a softer and more uniform light to relieve the eye fatigue experienced when watching the screen for a long time.

Absen’s image optimization enhances visuals

The KLCOB integrates multiple Absen image optimization technologies for realistic and incredible images enhanced in clarity and visibility: HDR 10, stunning 15000:1 contrast with 600Nits maximum brightness, 1.07 billion colours and cinema level color gamut at DCI-P3. An ultra-high refresh rate of 120Hz and 22-bit greyscale transitions, combine with 3840Hz operation for perfect low moiré in-camera performance suitable for TV studios and lecture halls.

Super strong and stays cool for breathtaking immersion

Full flip chip COB technology and Absen’s HBB common cathode technologies keep the KLCOB cool for stunning visuals without the heat. The investment into the strength of KLCOB assures a collision and oxidization proof panel whilst supporting its breathtaking proportions. The KLCOB Ultra High Definition screen is available at a staggering size of 433″. The cabinet adopts a 16:9 display ratio which can be easily spliced into 2K, 4K or 8K screens for a truly immersive viewing experience.

Absen Green

Yet this mighty display treads lightly through the world, easy on our eyes in every sense and easy on the earth’s resources. It’s full energy saving potential is achieved through a combination of four technological innovations, which reduce energy consumption by forty percent compared to traditional screens under the same conditions. KLCOB practices the “Absen Green” concept.

“Absen will promote the innovation and development of the technology and products,” concluded Jessica, “and together with global partners, accelerate the widespread application of Micro LED display.”

Everest Group Task Mining Products PEAK Matrix® Assessment 2022[1]

There is a new category of enterprise software that relies on a previously untapped data source — human-computer interactions emanating from daily work. Today, over 60% of this data originates from millions of interactions teams and users have across applications, emails, chats, and documents at work.

This undocumented and unstructured data from human-computer interactions is key to unlocking tremendous business value and accelerating data-based digital transformation programs. This data enables organizations to build a map of how their teams get work done and use it to power their digital transformation programs.

“We are very happy to be recognized by Everest Group as a Leader,” said Samson David, CEO, Soroco. “This recognition reflects our dedication to delivering a powerful work graph platform that provides a 360-degree view into the last mile of work to teams and organizations and empowers them with structured insights – the key lever for driving the business forward and architecting transformation initiatives. Everest Group’s Task Mining PEAK Matrix Assessment 2022 includes 17 technology providers within the task mining industry. The report consists of PEAK Matrix, which classifies task mining providers into Leaders, Major Contenders, and Aspirants. Leaders have demonstrated high overall market impact, strong vision, and capability to respond to the demand for holistic task mining solutions.

Soroco leads the category because of its focus on enterprise-scale needs serving 1000s of users in each customer, which includes:

  • Privacy-aware data capture with zero IT integration: Patented deep capture technology to capture millions of interactions while protecting end-user privacy, flexible PII filtering, and being aligned to GDPR compliance.

  • Flexible hosting: Built cloud-native to scale – available in both PaaS and SaaS.

Soroco’s Scout, a work graph platform, is uniquely positioned to help enterprises to drive actionable and structured insights from this huge, untapped data source and improve the digital experiences of users and teams.

Inventec’s O-RAN convention showcases 5G smart factory applications with a supply chain alliance

TAIPEI, Aug. 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Leveraging its strength in cloud infrastructure, leading server contract manufacturer Inventec (2356) continues to invest in developing 5G smart factory applications with O-RAN technology and actively collaborates with supply chain partners to continue to grow the 5G vertical ecosystem from a system integration perspective. In the O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) Alliance’s 2022 Spring Plugfest convention held in late June in Taiwan, hosted by Auray’s Open Test and Integration Center (OTIC) and Security Lab, Inventec unveiled for the first time its plans for the Taoyuan server manufacturing plant, including “industrial environment safety,” “quality yield,” and “machine surveillance/maintenance and troubleshooting” and other critical requirements. They demonstrated how the 5G open architecture can significantly reduce the complexity of deployment and subsequent maintenance costs to address the need for sustainable upgrades in the technology of the automated smart factory and also presented the test data results of “industrial environmental safety “E-Gate”, “AI face recognition”, “fall detection”, “AR smart surveillance” and “MR Human-machine remote collaboration” through the integration from the system level to the device level.

Inventec's 5G smart factory applications at this year's O-RAN Plugfest Convention
Inventec’s 5G smart factory applications at this year’s O-RAN Plugfest Convention

In the AI computer vision application, Inventec has achieved throughput up to 800Mbps uplink and 200Mbps downlink with less than 18ms latency and 0.004% packet loss rate through 5G video transmission for E-Gate, face recognition, and fall detection, achieving the required application stability and over 90% recognition success rate. In a wireless mobile application, it has reached a 99.9% ~ 100% handover success rate in a test area of 80 meter-width when the end device is moving with velocity of  one meter per second. In the tests, Inventec also found that reliable GNSS (GPS) signals contributed significantly to the stability of 5G network quality, and that the brand of the terminal device had a much greater impact on performance stability changes in end-to-end tests than the base station.

According to Evan Chien, Senior Director of the Cloud and Communications Solution at Inventec, our participation in the “E2E service experience for Industry IoT” test at this year’s O-RAN Plugfest event signifies that Inventec already has system integration capabilities that can implement open 5G private network architectures in real world. “Inventec will continue to optimize the end-to-end solution with the test data obtained from live cases in the test, and share the successful deployment experience to more field partners through construction service, maintenance and technical consultancy.”

Inventec is actively involved in the 5G private network market. In addition to developing its own brand base station, Inventec is also playing the role of system integrator for the first time, to integrate from information technology (IT), communication technology (CT) to operation technology (OT), with Microsoft, Altran, PTC, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, CYLTEK, NexAIoT, NYCU, O’Prueba, AIMobile, Besta, ioNetworks, PowerArena, Geoforce and other eco-partners in the 5G manufacturing vertical, and promoting complete end-to-end 5G enterprise network solutions for users in the manufacturing industry through testing and validation at its own server manufacturing facility in Taoyuan.

By participating in O-RAN activities and operations, Inventec has completed assembly line level verification in the 5G smart factory field in the first half of 2022, and will provide 5G end-to-end solutions for the manufacturing industry to achieve the goal of digital transformation. In addition to O-RAN end-to-end service experience tests  in the real 5G field, Inventec plans to conduct more 5G O-RAN application integration testing plans through the 5G open lab deployment in the second half of the year to complete the integrations from lab to field, from a single device to end-to-end application, and continue to work on 5G smart factory solutions. Inventec will invite more eco-partners to participate in the integration test and join the vertical domain to move towards the new blue ocean of the 5G industry.

About Inventec

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Series Rumour Round-Up

With Samsung’s big Galaxy Unpacked event happening on August 10, we thought it’d be a good time to round up all the rumours behind the devices poised to make their global debut at the event. We’ve already covered all the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 rumours. There’s still one show stopper coming at the event – the Galaxy Watch 5 series.

Better Specs, Maybe a new Sensor

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series was its first outing running OneUI Watch on top of Google’s Wear OS. Even with new software, the company managed to introduce new features and up the ante when it comes to their wearables. It’s going to be an interesting year for the Watch series with Samsung delving deeper into health metrics and applying them to the medical field. In fact, rumours are rife with Samsung bolstering the Watch5 series with an additional body temperature sensor for better tracking of sleep and perhaps other metrics.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series will seemingly come with Samsung’s own Exynos W920 processor. The processor was announced last year and specifically built for wearable tech like the Galaxy Watch series. It looks like the series will be consisting of two entries – The Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. If you’re wondering where’s the classic? It seems like Samsung will be doing away with the navigator design of the classic for the new Pro.

Minor Design Tweaks with 50 Hours battery

The Watch5 Pro comes with a few design changes – the most obvious being a raised circular bezel. Apparently, this will be where Samsung’s digital rotating bezel feature gets slightly more tactile. In addition, the Pro will also be made of more premium materials including Sapphire Glass and titanium.

Aside from these differences, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro will have similar designs. Samsung’s new design language gives the Galaxy Watch a more sporty and edgy look. The bands are now meeting the body of the Watch and becoming a contiguous fluid structure. It looks like Samsung has also redesigned the straps opting for a design with a clasp or magnet instead of the usual pin and holes we’re used to seeing.

The regular Galaxy Watch5 seems to be continuing the tradition of having two sizes: a 44mm and a 40mm version. These versions will come with different-sized AMOLED displays. The smaller 40mm version is tipped to be coming with a 1.19-inch display while the 44-inch one is tipped for a 1.36-inch display. In addition, it looks like we can expect better battery life with the increased battery size of the Watch5 series. The smaller version is rumoured to come with a 284mAh battery while the larger 44mm version will come with a 410mAh battery. That said, both are expected to deliver about 50 hours of usage on a single charge. It is also rumoured to come with a 10W fast charger in the box.

Rumoured Pricing

According to the leaks, it looks like the Galaxy Watch5 series will be priced at a lower price point than its predecessor. The Watch5 40mm (Bluetooth Only) is rumoured to be retailing at €259 (MYR1,177.13) while the 44mm version will be priced at €286 (MYR1,299.77). The Pro on the other hand will be retailing at €430 (MYR1,954.21) for the 45mm Bluetooth-only option.
