CGTN: China outlines four-point proposal on global fight against corruption

BEIJING, June 4, 2021China made a four-point proposal on international cooperation against corruption on Wednesday, calling for a zero-tolerance attitude toward corruption and respect for differences between countries.

Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC (CCDI), made the remarks during a special session of the United Nations General Assembly on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation.

"China is an active participant in and contributor to global anti-corruption governance," Zhao said. The country contributed to the adoption of the Beijing Declaration on Fighting Corruption by APEC and the High-Level Principles on Cooperation on Persons Sought for Corruption and Asset Recovery by the G20, and put forward the Beijing Initiative for the Clean Silk Road to deepen Belt and Road cooperation, he noted.

Outlining China’s proposal on global anti-corruption cooperation, he called for extensive efforts to uphold fairness and justice.

"The international community needs to forge broad political consensus, take a zero-tolerance attitude toward corruption, build zero-loophole institutions, carry out zero-barrier cooperation, and press ahead with cooperation on persons sought for corruption and asset recovery and on foreign business bribery," he said.

Meanwhile, countries should respect differences between them and promote equality and mutual learning, he stressed.

"We need to respect the sovereignty and political and legal systems of each country, respect their right to choose their own ways of fighting corruption, and foster an international partnership for anti-corruption cooperation that is based on equality, respect for differences, exchanges and mutual learning, and common progress."

China’s anti-graft chief called on the international community to "pursue mutually-beneficial cooperation through extensive consultation and joint contribution."

He also urged countries across the world to "honor commitments and put action first." Signatories to the UN Convention against Corruption should "honor their solemn commitment of fighting corruption together."

China’s ‘sweeping victory’ against corruption

Zhao reviewed China’s anti-corruption drive, stressing that the CPC and the Chinese government "stand unequivocally against corruption."

"We have adopted a holistic approach to address both symptoms and root causes of corruption, and combined law-based punishment, institutional checks, and education and guidance to made our anti-corruption governance more effective," he said.

In 2020, disciplinary inspection commissions and supervision agencies across the country investigated about 618,000 corruption cases, leading to the punishment of 604,000 people, a report by China’s top anti-graft body said. A total 1,421 fugitives were brought back to China last year, the CCDI report showed.

With "multi-pronged measures" to tackle all acts of corruption, China has secured and consolidated a "sweeping victory" in the fight, Zhao said.

According to a recent survey by China’s National Bureau of Statistics, 95.8 percent of the Chinese people are satisfied with the country’s anti-corruption efforts, he noted.

‘We cannot allow corruption to continue’

The UN General Assembly convened its first ever special session on combating corruption on Wednesday. The special session will conclude on Friday.

Addressing the special session, Volkan Bozkir, president of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, said Wednesday the effects of corruption are "detrimental to all of society" and that it should not be allowed to continue unchecked.

"Transnational financial crime and corruption are unfortunately commonplace in our interconnected, interdependent world," Bozkir said, adding that corruption affects decision-making processes and "remains one of the most critical challenges for states, institutions, and communities."

"We cannot allow corruption to continue. We will not," he stressed.

Alienware X Series Announced with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 & Intel Core i9

Alienware’s lineup of laptops has always been streamlined. When it comes to their offerings, it’s always been the Alienware M series or the Area 51m for desktop replacements. That’s changing with the introduction of a new generation of flagship laptops – the Alienware X series. Alienware is upping the ante and infusing its new lineup of laptops with that je ne sais quoi or X factor of being both powerful and portable.

The new Alienware x17 and x15 are the thinnest laptops to come from Alienware ever coming in at just 20.9 mm and 15.9. They bring the performance and optimisations that Alienware is known for in a sleek, new silhouette. The X series houses some of Alienware’s biggest engineering achievements to date with the new laptop series housing a series of innovations including five of which are patent pending.

Cutting Edge Technology Built for Gamers

Naturally, many of these innovations focus on cooling and thermals. One of them is a new thermal interface material called Element 31 which is touted to have a 25% improvement in thermal resistance. The Alienware X series also brings better heat dissipation with Alienware’s Quad fan design which maximises airflow. It also employs a new Smart Fan control technology which regulates each fan independently according to temperatures detected by the AI-enabled sensors.

Aside from that the Alienware x17 and x15 are customisable with options for the latest, cutting edge specifications that all gamers crave. They are equipped with the latest Intel Core H series mobile processors and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 30 series laptop GPUs. The laptops support up to 110W and 165W graphics power on the Alienware x15 and Alienware x17 respectively. Paired with the specifications are screen options supporting up to a 4K UHD HDR400 display with ComfortView Plus and low blue light technology. They also have options for up to 360Hz refresh rate.

Of course, it’s only natural that the new gaming laptops come with support for the latest Killer WiFi technology for wireless, on-the-go gaming. The X series also has Thermal Control Circuit offset (TCC offset) technology which allows the laptop to maintain a constant CPU temperature range for both work and play. This is complemented by the controls in Alienware’s Command Center application where you can define your own settings and even overclock. They also come with the recently announced CHERRY MX keyboard.

Pricing & Availability

The Alienware X series goes on sale starting June 1, 2021, in limited configurations with full configurations making their debut on June 15, 2021, in the U.S. The Alienware x15 will be priced starting at USD$1,999.99 (MYR8,256.86) while the x17 starts at USD$2,099.99 (MYR8,699.70).

In Malaysia, the laptops will be available sometime in June 2021. No official pricing has been announced just yet.

Together with the Alienware X series, Alienware also announced the new Dell G15 (TGL) which comes with updated specifications with prices starting at USD$949.99 (MYR3,921.85) and the updated Alienware m15 R6 which starts at USD$1299.99 (MYR5,367.02). These laptops will retail in Malaysia with prices starting at MYR4,199 and MYR8,199 respectively.

SAP Expanding World’s Largest Business Network

New Industry Solutions Will Drive More Sustainable Business Performance

HONG KONG, June 4, 2021 — At its global SAPPHIRE NOW® conference, SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) announced a bold vision to create new business communities able to improve business outcomes, better navigate changing economic and geopolitical conditions and enhance sustainability contributions. SAP unveiled the first step toward creating the world’s largest business network with SAP® Business Network, which will bring together Ariba® Network, SAP Logistics Business Network and SAP Asset Intelligence Network. Over 5.5 million organizations will benefit from being members of this connected community.

To support this central announcement, SAP is also announcing new innovations designed to help companies modernize and digitalize their business processes to become intelligent enterprises. In addition, customers can benefit from a new portfolio of sustainability-specific business applications that deliver exceptional transparency and measurement capability across the supply chain.

"During this unprecedented year, the importance of the communities we’re part of has never been clearer," said Christian Klein, CEO and Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE. "Our new vision will build the world’s largest business community, enabling customers to easily connect with companies across supply chains and creating networked economies across industries."

While we have all seen the power of networks in our personal lives, this networked ecosystem for businesses doing business together is unique. Members of the new SAP Business Network will be able to access a single, unified portal to gain a holistic view into their supply chain ecosystem, logistics and traceability, and equipment management and maintenance. To learn more, read "SAP Introduces SAP Business Network."

During the pandemic, the most resilient companies were those who embraced technology to transform their business processes. Those who simply leveraged cloud infrastructure and didn’t actually digitalize core business processes did not fare as well. To enable every enterprise to become an intelligent enterprise, SAP announced the RISE with SAP transformation packages for specific industries. Building on the successful introduction of the RISE with SAP offering in January, the RISE with SAP packages for specific industries provides business transformation as a service with five initial industry-tailored cloud solutions for retail, consumer products, automotive, utilities and industrial machinery and components. To learn more, read "Start Your Digital Transformation Journey: RISE with SAP for Industries."

Despite a brief drop in carbon emissions over the past year, this year is on track for the second-biggest increase in emissions in history. Sustainability is as important to business success as revenue and profits. This is the decade in which companies must act. SAP’s stated goal is to make climate protection measurable, diversity and inclusion visible and ethical responsibilities transparent.

To enable this goal and operationalize sustainability as a core business process, SAP announced a portfolio of new sustainability-specific products. This includes the SAP Responsible Design and Production solution to ensure product designers can make sustainable choices from initial product concepts to production; the SAP Product Footprint Management solution to track sustainability through a product lifecycle; and the SAP Sustainability Control Tower solution to provide end-to-end visibility. Razer Launches the Iskur X Gaming Chair

Razer launched their own version of what an ultimate gaming chair would look like last year. They launched the Razer Iskur last year for all the hardcore gamers in the world with a very clever lumbar support mechanism. It also received high praises for being one of the most comfortable gaming thrones you can find in the market.

The only issue was its price at US$ 749. In Today’s Malaysia money, the Razer Iskur will set you back about just a little over MYR 3,000, which is a lot of money even for a gaming chair. For comparison’s sake, the Secret Lab Titan, Secret Lab’s biggest and most expensive gaming seat starts at an equivalent of roughly MYR 2,200 (SG$ 700 retail) or so. These are rough conversion figures though.

While you are paying a little bit of a premium for the Iskur’s innovative lumbar support, it is not something you would call ‘affordable’. In that sense, what do you do when you still want a Razer seat in your house, but for not as much money? Razer has an answer for you in their latest Razer Iskur X.

Before you jump into the conclusion that Razer’s Iskur X is a baby Iskur, it is nothing like the more premium Iskur. They share the same diamond quilt design on the backrest, the same colour and leather finishing, and somewhat the same designs and stitching, but that is about it. These are technically two completely different thrones.

The Iskur X do not have the same lumbar support mechanism or cushion as the Iskur for example. Instead, you have the option to get a separate lumbar cushion you can put on the chair. Like the Iskur also, the Iskur X does not come with a head pillow or cushion though. Again, the head cushion is a separate purchase.

Still, the Iskur X gaming chair features steel-reinforced body to handle a lot of weight. It supports up to 136kg. That does mean that the Razer Iskur X might dwarf smaller body frames though. It also features the same 2D armrests as the Iskur, which is a good thing considering the Iskur was highly acclaimed.

The Razer Iskur is now available for purchase from selected retailers and from Razer.com online store. The Razer Iskur X will set you back US$ 399 (MYR 1,499*) and only comes in Black and Green colour scheme. For more comfort, you can add a Razer Lumbar Cushion and Razer Head Cushion for US$ 49.99 (MYR 259*) and US$ 39.99 (MYR 199*) respectively. More information can be found on Razer’s website.

AI-based Analysis of Cancer Tissue Predicts Response to Immunotherapy–Findings to Be Presented at ASCO 2021

  • Lunit to present four abstracts including one in a ‘Poster Discussion Session’
  • AI-based tissue analysis platform ‘Lunit SCOPE’ to be launched within the second half of 2021: "We aim to make our AI the new standard for cancer treatment"

SEOUL, Korea, June 4, 2021 — A new finding reveals that AI-based tissue analysis can show better prognosis for immunotherapy as well as find more patients eligible for the treatment, according to a medical AI startup, Lunit. The findings will be presented during the upcoming American Society of Clinical Oncology(ASCO) Annual meeting 2021. The company is to present four poster presentations, including one in a "Poster Discussion Session".

The presentations feature Lunit SCOPE, an AI software that analyzes tissue slide images, developed by Lunit. One finding states that Lunit SCOPE IO—one of Lunit SCOPE product lines—can be used as a new biomarker for the treatment of multiple cancer types. The software analyzes tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(TIL) in cancer patients’ tissue slides, assigning a score to each criterion. Upon validation with real-world data, the results showed that the higher the score, the better the response to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment, a subtype of immunotherapy.

TIL is known as a potential tumor agnostic biomarker for ICI therapy. Lunit has been validating the clinical application of Lunit SCOPE IO for predicting ICI treatment outcomes in advanced lung cancer. This study expanded the clinical application of Lunit SCOPE IO across multiple cancer types. The study was verified by more than 1,000 real-world patient data of 9 cancer types, which were collected from major institutions including Stanford University Medical Center.

"With multiple researches and long-term studies, we have been validating the effectiveness of an AI-based tissue analysis platform called ‘Lunit SCOPE’ that can help predict a cancer patient’s response to immunotherapy," said Chan-young Ock, Chief Medical Officer of Lunit.

Online demo image of Lunit SCOPE
Online demo image of Lunit SCOPE

Lunit will also present a study on Lunit SCOPE PD-L1. AI analysis of PD-L1 expression can generate objective quantification, which can lead to accurately finding subjects for ICI therapy among non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

"Currently, pathologists interpret tissue slides through the naked eye. They assess PD-L1 expression level, which is the current standard for clinical application, but there are limitations. With the help of Lunit SCOPE PD-L1, which was trained with data including PD-L1 expression results of 380,000 cancer cells, we are able to find more patients who would respond to ICI therapy, 50% more, according to our study," said Ock.

Lunit also announced that one of its abstracts about assessment of breast cancer risk has been selected for the ASCO 2021 ‘Poster Discussion Session’. Around 20% among all poster presentations are selected for this session, through strict review by the ASCO committee.

According to this study, unique parenchymal pattern with future breast cancer risk among breast cancer patients was identified by AI. Among breast cancer patients who developed cancer on one of the breasts, images from the other ‘normal’ side were collected and labeled as ‘high risk’. After training the AI with this dataset, the algorithm was validated on more than 4,000 external cases. The results showed that Lunit’s AI distinguished between high-risk and normal tissue with high accuracy, showing potential to be used as an independent biomarker to select high-risk populations based on mammography alone.

"Through continuous research, Lunit has been presenting groundbreaking findings at ASCO since 2019," said Brandon Suh, CEO of Lunit. "It is considered a remarkable achievement for a medical AI startup to present four abstracts at such a renowned global medical conference. We are now focusing on the next stage, going beyond academic research to productization of our AI softwares to be used in actual cancer research, and eventually, clinical practice. We are planning to formally launch Lunit SCOPE products this year, taking steps on setting our AI as the new standard of cancer treatment."

Marking its 57th anniversary, ASCO 2021 will be held online from June 4 to 8 due to COVID-19. More than 45,000 medical professionals from over 150 countries worldwide take part in the meeting to share the latest R&D achievements and insights related to cancer treatment.

Samsung’s Galaxy Book Go and Galaxy Book Go 5G Brings Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Compute Platform to Windows.

Qualcomm has been teasing their Snapdragon platform to run on PC and Windows for a while now. To be fair, the possibility of having a Snapdragon SoC running Windows is not such a far-fetched idea. The processing chips that have been staple for Android, at least on the flagships, are already as powerful, if not more powerful than a regular CPU made by Intel and AMD. They are also a lot more power efficient, which also means that it runs cooler and benefits battery life.

While they have been teasing, there are no notable products to put the concept into practice. The closest we got to a modern Qualcomm Snapdragon compute platform on Windows is the JOI Book SK3000, an attempt at creating an affordable notebook by a Malaysian firm. To be fair, we see a lot of potential from that attempt, even if they are using a somewhat dated System on a Chip (SoC) that was not even made for Windows.

Today though, all that is about to change with Samsung’s introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Book Go. The new Galaxy Book Go comes in three variants too, for good measure. The regular Galaxy Book Go can be fitted with LTE connectivity, but there is a 5G variant. Naturally, two variants also mean two different SoCs. The standard Galaxy Book Pro with or without LTE comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c  Gen 2 platform and the Galaxy Book Pro 5G comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 platform.

Source: Samsung

Again, because the power consumption requirements are lower than before, the notebook is touted to have an all-day battery life. Even if you need to plug it into a wall socket, your 25W charger should be larger than a smartphone charger. Thanks to USB Type-C too, you can charge your smartphone using the same charger. All of that also, while remaining constantly connected to the internet.

It features a 14-inch Full HD display with slim bezels to fit a body that is likened to an old 13-inch notebook. eUFS memory (up to 128GB) also means that you get instant boot and load speeds from the Galaxy Book Go. With up to 8GB of RAM, Windows 10 should be running nicely without too much strain. On top of all of that is Dolby Atmos certified speakers for all kinds of entertainment needs.

All of that power is packed into a body that is 14.9mm thick, or thin, depending on how you look at it. It could be thinner, but they do need a little bit of space to fit a full-sized USB Type-A port on the side of the Galaxy Book Go. Still, it only weighs 1.38kg and it does not need a fan to run a whole day.

Source: Samsung

It is very much a Samsung product though with Galaxy ecosystem a part of the Samsung Galaxy Book Go. The Galaxy Book Go works nicely with Link to Windows and Microsoft’s Your Phone app on your Android device. With Smart Switch also, you can easily transfer settings from your old PC to the Galaxy Book Go quickly and easily. There is even SmartThings built into the Galaxy Book Go for all kinds of IoT use at home.

The Samsung Galaxy Book Go Wi-Fi and LTE will be available in select market June 2021 onward. The selected markets does not include Malaysia at this time though. If you are in a market where the Samsung Galaxy Book Go with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 platform is available, it starts at US$ 349 (MYR 1,439*). The Samsung Galaxy Book Go 5G variant will be available sometime later in the year 2021. For more information on the Samsung Galaxy Book Go and other Samsung products, you can visit their website.

Planetwatch Announces The Listing Of The PLANETS Token On Bitfinex Exchange

ST. GENIS-POUILLY, France, June 3, 2021 — Planetwatch, a French start-up which decentralizes and incentivizes environmental monitoring, announced that its utility token, PLANETS, will be listed on Bitfinex. PLANETS are the first Algorand Standard Asset (barring stablecoins) to be supported on a major international exchange.

Claudio Parrinello, PlanetWatch’s CEO said: "This is a major milestone for PlanetWatch. Less than 18 months after company creation, and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we have managed to demonstrate that our Smart City as a Service solution, based on community sensor deployment and crowdsourced air quality data, can deliver business-grade data feeds in a fast and cost-effective way."

PlanetWatch revolutionizes the way we measure air quality by using the Algorand Blockchain, IoT-enabled sensors and AI-based data analysis. PlanetWatch incentivizes citizens to operate air quality sensors and earn token rewards for data streams.

Sean Lee, CEO of the Algorand Foundation, said: "We are delighted to see Bitfinex support the PLANETS token. The PlanetWatch team have shown outstanding vision and innovation in creating their "Smart City"aaS concept and choosing to create their utility token ecosystem on Algorand’s sustainable, carbon negative blockchain network. We are excited to see the world discover the amazing potential of crowd sourced air quality monitoring and the PLANETS token."

PlanetWatch is focusing on air pollution, because it causes over 7 million deaths per year (source: WHO). In addition, recent studies provide evidence linking long-term exposure to air pollution with an increase in mortality from COVID-19 infection, as well as a significant risk of infection via aerosol in indoor spaces, where air quality can be a proxy for infection risks.

PlanetWatch is strongly supported by high-profile partners such as Algorand, the Algorand Foundation and CERN, the leading physics research lab in the world, where the Web was born.

As provider of environmental data, PlanetWatch was naturally led to partner with Algorand which provides a highly scalable, decentralized and secure blockchain which is also one of the "greenest" for energy consumption. As far as CERN is concerned, PlanetWatch is the only company in the global blockchain ecosystem to be an official "CERN Spin-off".

PlanetWatch’s network is growing very fast. It currently comprises approximately 700 sensors, mostly in Europe and the USA. Based on the current installation pipeline, the 1,000-sensor milestone will be reached in a few weeks.
