Luxury brands embrace social media marketing in China

BEIJING, Aug. 20, 2020 — A news report by China.org.cn on China’s luxury goods market:

On August 6, the well-known luxury brand Louis Vuitton held a fashion show in Shanghai — its first since the coronavirus outbreak. Livestreamed across multiple social media platforms such as Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok; Weibo, China’s Twitter; and a WeChat mini program, the show drew a sizeable audience, garnering more than 50 million views on Weibo alone.

The show’s popularity reflects the impressive performance of the Chinese luxury goods market. In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the global luxury goods market is expected to shrink dramatically, while sales of many brands in Europe and America have plummeted. However, assessments of the China’s market are far rosier. The financial reports of groups such as LVMH and Kering all show that sales in China were significantly higher than those in other regions in the second quarter of 2020.

But it is not only in the luxury goods sector; the Chinese consumer market as a whole looks promising. The financial reports of many American companies, including Tesla and Nike, reveal that the Chinese market has helped offset the damage from tumbling sales in other regions. During this tough period, China has become a lucrative market for many international companies.

The reasons behind this are that China has contained the epidemic and recovered rapidly. China is regarded as one of the world’s largest and fastest growing consumer markets. Over the past few years, household wealth in the country has risen, the middle class continues to grow, and the spending power of consumers in second-, third- and fourth-tier cities has also increased significantly; millennials and Generation Z hold enormous influence in the market with their unique consumption habits; and online shopping and multi-channel retail is shaping consumption in China in new ways. One report even predicts that China will contribute around half of all global luxury consumption by 2025, which demonstrates the country’s vast consumer market and huge potential.

It is worth noting that due to the effect of COVID-19 on travel, many of the world’s top luxury companies have responded by promoting their brands on Chinese social media platforms such as Douyin and "Little Red Book". They have posted and livestreamed frequently to attract more Chinese consumers. In fact, the pandemic has acted more like a catalyst: social networking, which promotes individuality and interconnectivity, has crept into traditional brand promotion and sales, forming a new business model and generating returns. In the future, this model will become the new normal, helping to further unleash consumption potential and stimulate economic growth.

Industry Aficionado Paul Peros Launches World’s First Tech-led Full Haircare Precision System

NEUCHATEL, Switzerland, Aug. 20, 2020 — The world’s only precision beauty company, REDUIT, has enjoyed unprecedented growth in its first months of launching, undeniably emerging as the ‘Tesla of Beauty’.

Paul Peros CEO REDUIT
Paul Peros CEO REDUIT

Accelerating the growth of this Swiss brand is its release of 14 products in 14 weeks, with a further 13 products still to come. The patented haircare portfolio is now fully available in 40 countries worldwide, with a hotly anticipated skincare line coming soon.

Pioneered by Paul Peros, a notable global CEO, REDUIT’s vision was to reimagine the haircare category and offer a sustainable, yet powerful solution for all hair types through the use of innovation and technology to apply treatments, yet remain sustainably friendly to the planet.

"In French ‘Reduit’ means ‘reduced’; we reduce packaging, amplify results; reduce time, amplify efficacy; reduce steps and amplify beauty," says Paul Peros.

Currently available are 3 REDUIT devices to choose from (REDUIT One, REDUIT One Gold and REDUIT One Pro) which will all work with the 5 REDUIT Hairpods™, and 5 REDUIT LED Hairpods™.

Using game changing technology, innovation and Swiss design, REDUIT almost completely reduced the need for stabilizers, thickeners and fillers in haircare and created highly concentrated formulas and a revolutionary precision delivery system for amplified results.

"Most active ingredients in beauty products go to waste through inferior delivery systems. REDUIT’s technology ensures maximum performance: 38x more efficacious than traditional products, while reducing the waste by 20x. We are shaping a category which has been relatively immune to advancement in technology and innovation but we are also showing the giants how to do this and encourage sustainability at the same time," adds Peros.

In its first month of launching, REDUIT avoided over 30 tons of CO2 output compared to traditional products, and that figure is projected to near 400 kilo-tons by the end of the year, meaning REDUIT may be outperforming the beauty giants in its first year of operation.

With the current trajectory and continuing on its mission, REDUIT will have launched 25 products, including the full haircare line, and a full skincare line which is expected to include technological innovations of skincare devices powered with Skinpods™ to suit a multitude of skin types and for specific skin conditions, by the end of 2020 and available to 40 countries including China, US and UK.

South Korea’s KT Develops AI-Based COVID-19 Research

– Korean Telecom Leader’s Proposal Accepted by Global Research Fund –

– KT’s AI, Big Data and Medical Resources Enhances Risk Assessment –

– New Project to Help KT Develop Global Epidemic Prevention Platform –

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 20, 2020 — KT Corp. (KRX: 030200; NYSE: KT), South Korea’s largest telecommunications company, is developing a COVID-19 infection risk assessment model, using its artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data-based digital contact tracing technology, adding to global efforts to tackle the escalating pandemic.

The Korean telecom leader’s new pilot project is supported by the Research Investment for Global Health Technology Fund, better known as RIGHT Fund. The global research fund accepted the promising proposal by KT to develop AI-based technology that assesses COVID-19 infection risks.

"KT’s new project will help combat the pandemic globally," said Kim Chae-Hee, head of KT’s AI/Big Data division. "We at KT will do our best to help prevent COVID-19 from further spreading and raise the efficacy of medical service, using our AI and Big Data technologies for the sake of humanity."

KT plans to use the pilot project results to apply for a larger-scale, RIGHT Fund-supported project in 2021. RIGHT Fund is a global health research funding agency established in 2018 with contributions from Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Korean life science companies to promote global public health.

For the pilot project, KT plans to assess COVID-19 infection risks by using AI and Big Data to analyze data on the movement of smartphone users and those who have been tested positive for COVID-19 and made public by the government.

"KT’s project will help developing countries, which are faced with shortages of medical resource, prevent the pandemic from spreading and conduct appropriate examinations and treatments," said Kim Youn-Been, CEO of the RIGHT Fund. "We hope that the project, taking advantage of Korea’s advanced expertise in ICT, will be carried out successfully to support developing countries in preventing, treating and managing the COVID-19 pandemic."

Mobile Doctor Corp. is also participating in this project, which is scheduled to end in February 2021. Both KT and Mobile Doctor, a provider of data-based platforms and solutions for health management, are members of a consortium conducting "A Next Generation Surveillance Study for Epidemic Preparedness," a three-year research program financed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

KT expects the assessment model, based on identification of those who have been exposed to carriers of the novel coronavirus directly and indirectly, will help prevent further transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic while minimizing the risk of personal information leakage.

Korea’s top telecom company also looks forward to acquiring the capabilities to identify vulnerable high-risk groups in case of a second wave of the pandemic or group infections, and promote an effective use of limited medical resources, such as medical personnel and test kits.

Through the research, KT plans to further upgrade its Global Epidemic Prevention Platform (GEPP), focusing on providing information on infection risks of contagious diseases and digital contact tracing. GEPP uses Big Data and social media to give updates to travelers going to countries hit by epidemics and to track the movement of infected individuals.

At the same time, KT will help reduce the gap in the provision of medical service among different regions and different income groups in underdeveloped countries, using its information communication technology and digital capacity for research and development on health.

Eight South Korean life science companies donated to the RIGHT Fund. The fund is dedicated to addressing inequalities in health between regions and income groups around the world, through research and development for vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and digital health technologies, taking advantage of Korea’s advanced R&D capabilities.

Hong Kong’s Hang Fook Elderly Home Adopts iBonus(R) Digital Prevention System Aimed at Helping Guard Against COVID-19

The new iBonus® Digital Prevention System is being adopted by a growing number of businesses, companies, and other entities in Hong Kong in an effort to help break COVID-19 transmission chains.

HONG KONG, Aug. 20, 2020 — One of the key reasons that COVID-19 has caused a great concern is its long incubation period. Most experts agree that for up to 14 days many affected patients have no obvious symptoms. Since nobody knows where these people have been or who they have been in contact with in the incubation period, many people around them could potentially also be infected, leading to eruptions of infection in communities and large numbers of new cases. Masks and glove can help stop this but there is clearly a demand for other safeguards as well. To help solve this problem, Hong Kong technology company iBonus Limited has launched a digital prevention system that records the times and places participants have visited through employee smart cards, or the Octopus transit card and a set of designated terminals installed at different locations.

Once someone’s infection has been confirmed, the system will immediately enter all persons who have appeared at the same times and places with the confirmed patient in the past 14 days into an alert list and the list will be sent to all terminals. When someone on the list enters an area, the terminal at that area will ring an alarm.

"COVID-19 has scared so many people because confirmed patients show no obvious symptoms during the incubation period," commented Keith, Managing Director of iBonus Limited. "As a result, they move around in the community like invisible people. If a system can track these patients as well as those in close contacts with them during the incubation period and restrict them from entering high-risk venues such as fresh markets, the elderly homes, hotpot and other restaurants, it can help to cut the chain of transmission and, we hope, put the pandemic under greater control."

The company understands that other kinds of technology working in this area, like contact trackers, have created understandable privacy concerns. Keith suggests the situation is different for this system as it only records the Octopus serial number, which is different from the real-name health code operation number recorded by competitors. By not attaching a real-name to the Octopus serial number it ensures there is no violation to participants’ privacy.

Currently, Hang Fook Elderly Home, Warwick Hotel, On Tai Fresh Market have adopted this system. iBonus is also in negotiation with many large restaurants and malls to also come onboard. Expect more news regarding these developments soon.

About iBonus Limited

iBonus Limited was incorporated on 9 June 2014. The iBonus® Legacy system is a contactless smartcard-based pre-paid offline system similar to the Hong Kong Octopus system.

Smart-Environmental Perception Technology to Identify and Avoid Obstacles

By using ECOVACS’ advanced TrueDetect 3D Technology, which is based on a structured light technology and 3D scanning algorithm widely used in advanced facial recognition and mobile payments, DEEBOT OZMO T8 can identify obstacles precisely and avoid them accordingly, allowing it to move freely when cleaning.

For millimeter-level detection accuracy, DEEBOT OZMO T8 can detect objects in front from a distance of 4.5cm up to 30cm to obtain high-precision resolution and depth information. It can additionally detect objects as small as 1mm, which is 10 times more accurate than traditional infrared technology. By using real-time 3D scanning, its millimeter-level detection capability allows T8 to detect small objects including cables, slippers and slim furniture, reducing the risk of getting stuck or tangled and enabling quicker and smoother cleaning.

Efficient and Thorough Whole-House Cleaning Coverage

Equipped with TrueMapping laser-based mapping and navigation technology, an aerospace-standard detection technology with a dToF sensor first adopted for this function in the industry, floor maps can be created in seconds by DEEBOT OZMO T8 to improve overall cleaning efficiency. This allows the robot to intelligently navigate the user’s home, bringing intelligent and thorough cleaning experience.

Compared with the previous generation of laser guidance technology, DEEBOT OZMO T8 can detect a double distance and has four-fold precision to detect objects. The distance is up to 10m and objects as small as 2mm can be detected. Larger family homes will particularly benefit from this feature as it improves cleaning efficiency and builds more detailed and accurate home cleaning maps.

With Multi-floor Mapping Technology, DEEBOT OZMO T8 can also scan and store multiple maps of different levels of the user’s home, allowing the robot to customize its cleaning process for each level once it identifies the appropriate map. Users can further customize where they would like the robot to clean in each map with the customized cleaning function, and restrict the robot to clean a specific area with the Virtual Boundary™ function.

Powerful In-depth Cleaning Performance

With its OZMO™ Mopping System, DEEBOT OZMO T8 provides powerful mopping and vacuuming capabilities at the same time, maximizing cleaning efficiency and removes over 99%[1] of bacteria. The robot can easily mop and clean stains, and dust will be removed in crevices up to 4mm deep, ensuring optimal cleaning results thanks to the four-step cleaning process.

The carpet detection technology allows DEEBOT OZMO T8 to automatically increase suction power on carpets when vacuuming and avoid carpets when mopping, keeping the cleaning experience completely automated and thorough for users.

Power-up Kits

Two power-up kits are now available for DEEBOT OZMO T8 to enhance overall cleaning performance and user experience. The OZMO™ Pro Oscillating Mopping System kit enables robots to deal with stubborn stains by using electrically powered high-frequency vibration, and a unique fine mopping mode which is comparable to an electronic mop. The oscillating mop vibrates up to 480 times per minute. Bundled with DEEBOT OZMO T8 and making it as DEEBOT OZMO T8+, the other kit is Auto-Empty Station which clears the robot’s dustbin automatically after cleaning. The station’s disposable dust bag holds up to 30 days of dirt and debris to dramatically reduce the need to frequently clear the dustbin, so users can enjoy cleaning homes for weeks without the hassle of dumping the bag.

Intelligent Control for Remote Cleaning Management

Paired with the ECOVACS HOME App, or smart home devices such as Amazon Echo/Dot and Google Home, users can control DEEBOT OZMO T8 remotely to enjoy the comfort of intelligent cleaning.

HEVC Advance Releases Draft VVC Licensing Program Overview – includes a Joint VVC and HEVC License

Also Announces Name Change to Access Advance LLC as its Patent Pool Focus Expands

BOSTON, Aug. 20, 2020 — HEVC Advance LLC ("Advance"), a leading independent licensing administrator in the area of video coding technologies, today announced the release (initially distributed in July) of a draft VVC Licensing Program Overview, resulting from conversations with close to 50 patent owners over the last several months. The Licensing Program, building on the success of Advance’s HEVC program, would establish the "Advance Licensing Platform for Video Codecs."  The Platform license structure, which Advance is planning to launch in 2021, would provide a stand-alone "VVC Platform License," a simplified stand-alone "HEVC Platform License," and, most importantly, a "Joint HEVC + VVC Platform License" that is expected to provide a substantial discount for products with both VVC and HEVC technologies. Compared with Advance’s current HEVC License, which will continue to be offered for as long as any current or future licensees wish, the new Platform License structure will be streamlined and will enable existing and future licensees to easily transition to one or more Platform Licenses at any time.  The Platform structure will also allow additional next-generation video technologies to be efficiently added in the future.

"We are extremely pleased to announce the release of a draft VVC Licensing Program Overview to our many Licensors and other patent owners that have engaged with us over the last several months," stated Peter Moller, CEO of Advance. "The marketplace, including input we’ve seen from the MC-IF process, has been clear that both patent owners and patent implementers desire licensing clarity for VVC as soon as possible, as well as a licensing structure that can seamlessly incorporate multiple video codecs into a single license platform. While there is still work to be done in reaching a final consensus on rates and certain other terms, we are confident that our draft Overview provides a structure that will meet with broad approval and allow us to establish a "one stop shop" Licensing Platform for VVC and HEVC—one that will meet the needs of a substantial majority of stakeholders and give the market the clarity it wants now. We welcome all companies having a good faith belief that they have one or more VVC essential patents to join the discussions and receive a copy of the Overview. We are also willing to make a version of the Overview available to anyone – including patent implementers without VVC patents – who have a bona-fide reason to receive it. Please contact us using the information below."

Advance also announces a change in name to Access Advance LLC. Given the goodwill and recognition built around the "Advance" name since the company’s inception in 2015, "Advance" will continue to be used as the company’s principle trade name. "While the name HEVC Advance has served us well, as we prepare to launch a VVC program it’s time to update our name to convey our expanded focus," continued Mr. Moller.  The name change will be implemented in stages over the next several months.

Higher Logic Australia Has Grown its Customer Base by Over 250% Since the Start of 2020

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, Higher Logic customers have seen notable increases—seeing over a 300% increase in new logins and almost 500% increase—in community engagement.

SYDNEY, Aug. 20, 2020 — Higher Logic, the industry-leading, human focused engagement platform has accelerated its growth in the Australian market through the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrating the power of community.

"We’ve found through this pandemic that associations who had a solid community strategy were able to adapt and shift their investments into digital delivery, accessibility and engagement," says Higher Logic’s Asia Pacific Country Manager, Robert Barnes. "It’s all about strategy. Investment in community has been a ‘no-brainer’ for those who understand that community is not an IT project but a focal point for a membership growth and retention strategy. Our success is in proving we are able to work within an existing tech stack to deliver an integrated, personalised and automated experience which creates both the unique member experience; and, significant efficiencies for an already overworked staff."

Higher Logic Australia is rapidly growing through the COVID-19 pandemic with the addition of 22 new logos this year. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Higher Logic customers have seen notable increases in their community logins and discussions—some seeing over a 300% increase in new logins and almost 500% increase in discussions. Human connection is more important now than ever and a thriving, engaged community is the best way to make that happen when face-to-face interactions are limited.

Professionals Australia is one customer of Higher Logic’s that has used the platform to reach new levels of growth and drive better results for their members. By implementing automated email campaigns, Professionals Australia experienced the highest level of member retention in five years and the strongest single year of recruitment in their organisation’s history. In just one year, Professionals Australia achieved:

  • 21% increase in overall recruitment
  • 12.5% decline in overall resignations
  • 25% increase in recruitment of members under 35
  • 15% decline in resignations of members under 35

"Overall, our use of Higher Logic’s Communications platform has made a major impact on both ends of our membership – minimising losses and maximising recruitment – delivering a level of growth we haven’t seen in several years, increasing our influence as an organisation, and allowing us to deliver better results for our members," says Stephen Gargano, Director – Member Engagement, Professionals Australia.

The Australian Medical Association of Queensland used the Higher Logic platform to connect their members in the rapidly changing world. AMA Queensland pivoted their member strategy to bring an engaged online community to their members, giving them a central hub for communication and resources. With this, AMA Queensland was able to tap into the insights of the community to better understand and respond to the needs of their member base.

AMA Queensland, Chief Executive Officer, Jane Schmitt said, "A community should be a foundational starting point for every association – a central platform that’s safer and more intimate than social media, where members can communicate, and where they know the association will read and react to what’s being shared."

Australia Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association has been using Higher Logic to connect their 6,000 members. They provide a place for members to connect with others, advance their careers and feel empowered.

"We’ve had 1700+ members engage with almost 700 posts in our open community since we launched in late February," says ASCTA, Chief Executive Officer, Brendon Ward. "We are driving members to Higher Logic so they can connect with peers, access and share resources and tools, and watch webinar recordings in a secure and safe environment which is uniquely dedicated to our members. This is helping to drive membership growth and increase retention rates."

In July, Higher Logic announced the release of their Engagement Benchmark Score, which gives customers a way to measure their engagement through data-driven insight into their community’s performance. This score gives users a clear picture of what is happening in their community allowing them to focus their efforts where most needed.
