SmartSens Announces SC210IoT – The 1080P RAW Sensor with On-Chip AEC For Fast Wake-Up Always On Home IoT Cameras Systems

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 19, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — SmartSens Technology today announces the official launch of SC210IoT – a 1080P 30fps low power video sensor specifically designed to power Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

CIS - the core component of IoT smart vision systems
CIS – the core component of IoT smart vision systems

It is estimated that 127 new IoT devices are connected to the web every second, and an installation of 31 billion IoT devices will be installed worldwide by the end of 2020 (Security Today, January 2020). During the next three years, companies are believed to invest up to $1.1 Trillion in in IoT (www.vxchnge.com, March 2020). As companies race to stay competitive, there are several crucial advancements that will determine the future of the industry for the next decade.

As in the case of other SmartSens products unveiled recently, what sets SC210IoT apart are the multiple significant enhancements it brings to the whole new generation of smart devices: superior low-light sensitivity, AEC function to enable fast wake-up from intermittent system operation, lowered power consumption optimized for always-on everyday applications.

SC210IoT supports integrated AEC function to optimize sensor to reactive devices from power-off or sleep mode to active streaming with a much shorter response time, as low as 60~70ms, while devices without SC210IoT still take the time multiple frames refresh  – often >100ms for a stable exposed image – to achieve the same function. This represents a huge leap forward in applications that collect crucial, timely visual data such as home and commercial surveillance equipment.

As a result of the faster response time, the new SC210IoT also achieves ultra-low power consumption, which is one of the top priorities for “always-on” devices, by preserving video bandwidth for only waking up to- and recording images and videos upon receiving a visual detection. SC210IoT power consumption is at a mere 60mW while standby power is <10uW. This will lead to a longer battery operation that is required for true power wireless applications, especially for devices with AI designed for detecting objects, motions and activities beyond human eyes.

“The new product launch in our SmartPixel series is geared towards the future of IoT and not the past,” said Chris Yiu, CMO of SmartSens. “SC210IoT is only the beginning of a long line of new sensor products to come. We will be seeing OEM to bring innovative products to accommodate in our modern daily life.”

SC210IoT is available for sampling immediately and mass production in June 2020. For more information about this product or to request a sample, please contact us at cs@smartsenstech.com.

Dell Precision brings Portable Power for Creators & VR

Dell is arguably one of the first companies out there that recognized the unique needs of creators. In fact, they were one of the only ones to acknowledge the unique demands for a portable solution for creators before the market started shifting towards it.

This year, the Dell Precision series is getting refreshes that pack even more power in a redesigned body. The mobile workstations in the Precision line up are shedding the pounds while upping the ante when it comes to raw power.

Dell Precision 3000 Series Workstations

The new Dell Precision 3000 series workstations are packing more power in a slimmer chassis. Dell’s Precision line up is spearheaded by the refreshed Precision 3440 SFF and the Precision 3640 Tower. Both of these workhorses come packed with options ranging from the 10th generation Intel Core i3 to the Intel Xeon processors. MIUI 12 Brings Universal Dark Mode, Private Casting & Privacy Enhancements

Xiaomi announced their new update to their in-house user interface: MIUI. The new iteration of MIUI, officially named MIUI 12, brings a few long requested features and tweaks some that were already available. However, not all the new features bode for a better universal experience with MIUI 12.

Animations, Animations, Animations

The bulk of the changes in MIUI 12 are purely aesthetic. Xiaomi has spent time trying to make MIUI look more “natural”. They’ve made changes to the way MIUI will handle animations in MIUI 12. These aren’t just superficial changes such as shortening animation times, they’ve spent time redesigning the way MIUI’s kernel handles these animations. This simply means that the core of MIUI handles animation differently than any other Android based device. Xiaomi has also increased the amount of animations by making UI elements such as icons, pop ups and indicators move in tandem with the movement of the phone. They have also made the animations and transitions more seamless and fluid. In the demo they showed, the settings icon was able to seamlessly transition into the settings menu.

That isn’t all, MIUI 12 doesn’t simply enlarge the icons, Xiaomi has opted to make icons arc as they transition to apps. They claim that this revision allows the overall user experience to be more natural and fluid. MIUI also brings optimisations in the way it handles rounded curves in the UI. Xiaomi has made it so that instead of having dead spaces in the rounded corners of the UI, MIUI 12 will seamless conform to the available space. This also means that you get every interactive pixel within your screen.

Private Casting, App Drawer & Enhanced Privacy Controls

Animation and superficial enhancements aside, MIUI 12 is really bringing some meaningful new features; One of them is Private casting. This new feature allows you to cast larger screens while hiding elements of the UI. Primarily, users will be able to keep notifications, pop up windows and more on their mobile screen. These elements will not be shown on the casted when private casting is turned on. In fact, Xiaomi says, you’ll be able to cast and play a game at the same time without the game being casted to the larger display.

MIUI 12 also brings an enhanced Floating Window feature primarily with new gesture interactions. Users will be able to pull up floating windows to reply notifications by simply swiping down. When used with MIUI’s messaging app, this will bring up a floating window for extended interaction. Floating windows can also be left above others by simply dragging the window to the corner to pin it. A simple swipe will dismiss the window. A further swipe down will enlarge the window to make it the main one.

The app drawer finally makes it to MIUI in MIUI 12. The new app drawer can be toggled on in the settings and is able to automatically categorize your apps. MIUI 12 will also have universal dark mode. While many apps already have this built in, MIUI 12 will natively adapt apps which don’t have the function.

Most impressively, Xiaomi spent a little bit of time developing features to enhance the privacy controls on their devices. The main change is the inclusion of more granular permissions control. Users will be able to select the “when using app” and “notify” options that Android users are already accustomed to. In addition, MIUI 12 will indicate if apps are accessing sensitive information in the background with an icon on the top left corner of the UI. Users are able to see the offending app and even limit its access and uninstall it if they choose to. This enhance feature will be available for storage, camera, location, microphone, call history and contacts. You will also be able to remove sensitive EXIF data from photos before sharing them.

Availability

MIUI 12 beta will start next week. However, official rollout will begin at the End of June starting with the Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro. Other devices including the Redmi Note 9 series, POCOPHONE F1, Mi 10 and Mi MIX 3 will receive the update after the initial rollout.

HONOR ViewPad 6 is the Modern 5G Capable Tablet for the Youths

HONOR had a big global launch just now. They launched a lot of things. One of the big things they launched is their very own high-end tablet, the HONOR ViewPad 6. It looks very much like the HUAWEI MatePad Pro save for certain details. For one, the back of the tablet has a slightly different finish. The camera layout and design is more reminiscent of the OPPO Find X2 as well, from the looks of it.

The insides are slightly different too. The HONOR ViewPad 6 packs the HiSilicon Kirin 985 instead of the newer HiSilicon 990 you find on the HUAWEI MatePad Pro. You still get 5G connectivity with the HONOR ViewPad 6 though. You still get WiFi 6+ in connectivity. You also get 2K in resolution from the 10.4 FullView display. They also tout powerful speakers that boasts great audio. If they are anything like the HUAWEI MatePad Pro, we can believe that.

We know that the HONOR ViewPad 6 will come with HONOR’s proprietary User Interface (UI) based on Android 10. While it comes with Android 10, it does not come with Google’s Play Store. Rather, you are getting their AppGallery ecosystem. From the teasers we see in the launch, there is also the HUAWEI equivalent to the M-Pen, the Magic Pen for the tablet.

However, they did not announce the price of the HONOR ViewPad 6. They say that the price will be revealed on the 13th of June 2020. It should be available in certain markets from June 2020 onward. There is no mention of whether Malaysia gets the device that same time with other markets. We are expecting the tablet to come to Malaysia at the same time or before other countries outside of China though.

Innotree Launches “TuneCloud” for the Construction and Management of Multi-cloud Environments

SEOUL, South Korea, May 19, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — With the emergence of various cloud services, the number of cloud-based businesses is drastically increasing. Recently, in particular, many companies have adopted multi-cloud environments built on only the advantages of various cloud services rather than a single one.

To respond to the market needs, IT solution and service provider Innotree (CEO Byung-geun Kim, www.innotree.com) announced that it launched “TuneCloud,” a multi-cloud environment construction and management service.

The cloud total management service supports the design, deployment, billing, and monitoring of multi-cloud as a one-stop service, allowing customers to quickly and conveniently build their desired cloud service platform. By standardizing UI/UX so that anyone can easily create, integrate, and manage infrastructure in the cloud, TuneCloud provides multi-cloud services as a single one.

With its core feature, TuneDesigner, users can design cloud infrastructure easily and conveniently using the intuitive Drag & Drop UI method in a significantly reduced time. In addition, the architecture designed in TuneDesigner is automatically reflected and managed in the cloud through its real-time Auto Provisioning feature, improving the design and deployment productivity by more than 60%.

TuneDesigner: GUI-based Auto Provisioning and Reverse Engineering
TuneDesigner: GUI-based Auto Provisioning and Reverse Engineering

TuneCloud helps reduce design costs by providing various architecture design templates for infrastructure and minimizes human errors and improves the efficiency of personnel operations through automated provisioning and validation functions.

TuneReverse Engine can be used to express and redesign the current configuration of existing cloud infrastructure, manage the history of the cloud, and modify and monitor the infrastructure in real time.

In addition, TuneCloud performs integrated real-time monitoring of each cost and infrastructure for multi-cloud and provides TuneAI algorithm that recommends the optimal cost by collecting and analyzing budget, costs, and component status on a regular basis for efficient operations and cost reduction.

“Many companies are using or reviewing to use multi-cloud services for diverse business opportunities. However, each CSP (Cloud Service Provider) provides different types of UI/UX, and they find it difficult to configure and manage a multi-cloud environment without the help of professional engineers,” said Director Yoo Byeong-soo of Innotree Co., Ltd. who is in charge of the launch of TuneCloud. “TuneCloud is a standardized UI/UX-based SaaS type CMP (Cloud Management Platform). As we can provide fast and efficient cloud work environments, we expect to expand into not only the Korean market but the global market where the potential is great. For this, we plan to conduct a wide range of sales and marketing strategies,” he added.

Research by Huami Shows Smart Wearable Device Big Data could assist with alerting new trends related to COVID-19

SHENZHEN, China, May 19, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In the latest paper titled Learning from Large-Scale Wearable Device Data for Predicting Epidemics Trend of COVID-19 published by the special issue[1] from an scientific journal[2], Huami demonstrated the health management capabilities of wearable devices’ and its essential role in early alerting of epidemic outbreaks and public health, providing new clues for establishing a large-scale epidemic surveillance system, and helping improve the efficiency of public health monitoring and prediction[3].

This study[4] was supported by the Huami Corporation, a prediction model was established by using big data and artificial intelligence algorithms, which provides a new method for predicting epidemic trends for COVID-19.

Under the Huami Privacy Policy and data protections, researchers collected heart rate, physical activity, sleep, and other physiological data related to the above symptoms based on smart wearable devices. De-identified sensor data of about 1.3 million users who wore Huami devices from July 1, 2017, to April 8, 2020 were obtained according to appropriate security control. All the users were notified that their de-identified data could potentially be used for academic research[5].

Research found that, for every 1°C increase in human body temperature, heart rate increases by about 8.5 bpm[6]. Based on this, the increase in heart rate caused by fevers related to COVID-19 or influenza-like diseases can be used as a starting point for a method to detect physiological abnormalities.

Huami researchers considered an individual’s resting heart rate at 1.5 standard deviations higher than the personal average for 5 consecutive days, and sleep duration not less than 0.5 standard deviations from the personal average as the criterion to determine an abnormality.

Huami: COVID-19 Epidemic Trend Prediction Model
Huami: COVID-19 Epidemic Trend Prediction Model

The prediction model’s analysis results show that in the listed cities of Wuhan, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hefei, and Nanjing, there was a clear outbreak period in the infection rate prediction curve for each city which corresponded to the epidemic’s outbreak in each city.

Taking Wuhan as an example, the infection rate predicted by the model peaked on January 28th, while the newly confirmed cases in Wuhan peaked at nearly 2,000 people on February 7. The predicted infection rate peak was 10 days earlier than the officially reported peak time.

Given the lag between COVID-19 infection and the emergence of symptoms and diagnosis, the model-derived results are also consistent with the results of a retrospective study on COVID-19 conducted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control[7].

More Efforts Towards COVID-19 and Health Management

Besides the academic research from Huami, Huami continued the efforts of Connect Health with Technology. The company has donated medical supplies and devices worth 11.5 million RMB during the coronavirus outbreak.

Amazfit, a self-brand of Huami, started to working on a transparent N95 face mask called Amazfit AERI to contribute more to the global health management and epidemic prevention. The product in concept features a transparent anti-fog cover and a translucent frame. Wearers’ facial expressions can be seen even if they wear masks, easing the social distancing and allowing wearers to unlock their phones with Face ID. The Innovative Amazfit AERI can clean itself and last for several weeks. In April, the avant-garde Amazfit X Smartwatch with curved AMOLED screen and button free design went on sale by crowdfunding, which brings the upgraded experience for the users as well.

For combating COVID-19, Huami also partnered with China National Clinical Research Center of Respiratory Disease (NCRCRD) and Guangdong Nanshan Medical Innovation Institute which led by Dr. Nanshan Zhong to build up a smart wearable joint laboratory. Based on Huami smart wearable technology and powerful computing algorithms, the lab aims to help COVID-19 recovered patients follow-up care and management through the NCRCRD big data platform.
