American Axle & Manufacturing Achieves Exceptional Results Across Compliance, Standardization of Processes with Parsable

New features of Connected Worker® platform enable better, faster decision making and protect users personal information

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Parsable, provider of the Connected Worker® platform for frontline manufacturing and industrial work, today announced new features to its platform to enable all levels of industrial operations to make the best decisions, faster, while protecting personally identifiable information (PII) of each worker.

Industrial companies like American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) use Parsable’s platform to capture data from frontline workers as they complete routine activities on smartphones and tablets. Just one insight can translate into millions of dollars in productivity gains. Fortune 500 clients are using Parsable worldwide in more than 800 sites across 86 countries, achieving incredible results like reducing defects by 75% and increasing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by 6%, in just months with no need for IT support.

Parsable continues to deliver industrial companies with innovative features that unlock valuable data and actionable insights related to frontline operations. Key features announced today as part of the Parsable Connected Worker platform include:

  • Conditional logic – This new capability enables workers to respond dynamically to reported conditions from within the Parsable mobile app. Template authors use if/then logic statements to specify conditions that will reveal data inputs or reveal next steps to be taken. For frontline workers, a template will adapt dynamically to the information logged at each step of a process. As a result, equipment operators are able to make the best decisions quickly when faced with changing conditions.
  • Historical values – Parsable provides a simple, seamless way for frontline workers to review data, spot trends and take action, all within a single application. Historical values provide frontline workers access to previous results for specific inputs as determined by template authors. With this newly surfaced data and their own expertise, frontline workers can take action preemptively. By empowering frontline workers to perform self-guided, in-the-moment trend analysis, operations can take preventive action and make decisions faster.
  • PII Tagging – To remain in compliance with regulations, industrial operators must ensure the PII of individual workers is protected. Template authors can use a PII toggle to flag input fields that capture PII. This new metadata field makes it easier to find, manage and, when required, purge PII.

“Parsable has changed the game for digitization across manufacturing and these new capabilities within the platform are enabling industrial companies to achieve even greater insight into frontline operations, in a way that maintains the protection of PII, and allows for manufacturing leaders to make quick decisions that turn into real results,” said Matt Belkin, Parsable.

Helping AAM to Make Informed Decisions, Faster

AAM is the largest supplier of automotive driveline assemblies (axles) in the world, with 25,000 employees and 85 plants globally. The company requires every operator on the line and their supervisors to review job instructions on a quarterly basis. Previously, this was completed through Excel spreadsheets, but there were gaps that ultimately prevented many different sites from fully completing the audit on time.

Through its work with Parsable, AAM is able to reach all applicable associates and supervisors across their facilities worldwide in over 10 different languages, empowering them with the appropriate data to quickly make decisions. AAM has unlocked new visibility into frontline workflows and processes through the activity data captured in the Parsable platform, which has enabled each plant to achieve full compliance of their required quarterly job instruction review on time.

“We use Parsable to collect and quickly access new data on frontline operations. This has helped us to reach new levels of data visualization and compliance to standard processes,” said John Klein, business systems leader, American Axle & Manufacturing. “Our supervisors and operators were able to quickly learn how to utilize Parsable and complete required audits. Our management team uses custom dashboards powered by Parsable data to monitor critical activities where Parsable is deployed.”

Conditional logic, historical values and PII tagging functionality is now available to all Parsable customers. For more information on Parsable, visit https://parsable.com/.

Telegram Goes Blockchain

Telegram is still one of the most popular messengers in the world alongside WhatsApp and Signal. It is simple to use, you can have access to a single account via multiple smartphones or even PC devices at the same time, and you do not even have to back your data up periodically. Telegram automatically saves your chat via the cloud and allows you to access it instantaneously when you sign into your account from anywhere in the world, as long as you can remember the phone number you signed up with Telegram. WhatsApp only allows you to hold your account on a single device at a time. Your WhatsApp back up data is strictly stored inside your smartphone, Google Drive, or Apple Cloud; even WhatsApp cannot access your data, apparently.

There is a common denominator when it comes to the popular messengers you see across the globe too. For all the major platforms, you need to share your phone number to get an account. Telegram sees that as one point of failure in terms of your privacy and cyber security, so they look to do away with phone number.

https://techent.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/ecc5ec64a8ffc883e5.mp4
Source: Telegram

Telegram’s more recent updates has done away with just that. Recently Telegram has started auctioning and selling off rare usernames for their new platform based on the TON Blockchain. TON also features their own cryptocurrency, the Toncoins. Buying the unique username allows users to sign up to an anonymous account without ever giving away your phone number. You can even do that yourself on Fragment. You get your verification code on Fragment as well, of course.

You are not getting something as unique as a codename or the regular usernames though. You are getting a bunch of random numbers that resemble a phone number. That unique number will be tied to your Fragment account so any verification that is needed for your Telegram sign ins will go to Fragment. This also eliminates the need for you to sign up and use Telegram via your own phone number to make it even more secure, and more anonymous in some sense.

The new update also brings a whole host of improvements largely aimed to make Telegram more secure and private. Users should already be familiar with self-destruct messages, where users can delete their messages without leaving so much as a trace in their chats. They can set a delete timer for their chats or messages too on the platform. Telegram is now expanding the feature from 2013 and give you more control over your digital footprint.

https://techent.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/176eb951f64a25eee0.mp4

You can now automatically delete your messages in all your new chats with any user, regardless of who starts the chat. In some ways, it allows you to keep your inbox tidy by keeping it up to date. In private groups, users who have the authorization can also set timers to their messages to be deleted after some time.

https://techent.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/06e6b5803a3fd2ab7b.mp4

Telegram also allows you to sort your messages and groups using via Topics. Instead of looking for names or specific chat groups, you can sort your messages on Telegrams like you see forums. Now it is more powerful than before because you can sort out messages from groups with more than 100 members. They also added a new two column mode for the feature for an even more streamlined navigation than before allowing you to quickly go from one topic to another.

https://techent.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/f37f94578f7afb07e4.mp4

They even updated the anti-spam filter to be even more aggressive than before allowing your chats and groups to be a lot cleaner than before. If you do not feel comfortable giving away your phone number to other people to add you on Telegram, they have included a temporary QR code generator for you to show to others, when you need it. The people adding you will not even get to see your phone number. If you want to know how Telegram uses your smartphone’s storage, there is an even more detailed view of it now on Telegram itself.

https://techent.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7c6bd5138778b33002.mp4

On top of these security updates, Telegram also added a few new features that has to do with emojis. Users of Telegram Premium gets access to new interactive emoji with full screen effects and everything. All Telegram users get access to all the security features that Telegram has introduced so far though, so if you have not spent a single dime on Telegram, you still do not have to. Telegram is available for free on Google’s Play Store and Apple App Store. For more information on Telegram’s update, you can visit their website.

Affinidi and FilPass Sign MOU to Mitigate Risk of Fraudulent Identification Claims in the Philippines

SINGAPORE, Dec. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Affinidi, a decentralised identity solutions provider founded by global investment company Temasek, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU“) with Filipino company FilPass to jointly establish and issue verifiable credentials (“VCs“) in the Philippines.

Varsha Jagdale, General Manager of Financial Services in Affinidi (left) and Ryan Soh, Founder and Chief Executive of FilPass (right) sign MOU to mitigate risk of fraudulent identification claims in the Philippines
Varsha Jagdale, General Manager of Financial Services in Affinidi (left) and Ryan Soh, Founder and Chief Executive of FilPass (right) sign MOU to mitigate risk of fraudulent identification claims in the Philippines

This collaboration aims to make it easier for individuals to transact with businesses online by leveraging cryptography and decentralised technologies to issue, verify, and authenticate identities and credentials.

Under the MOU, Affinidi will provide its expertise in digital credentialing through its mobile app and digital wallet Ceal, where users will be able to promptly receive their VCs and store them securely on their mobile phones. Users can also build and manage their digital identity on the Ceal platform and control what information they would like to share with others and when to share it. Likewise, FilPass will bring its capabilities in issuing and verifying credentials and fraud detection through blockchain, enabling faster and safer online transactions.

The MOU was inked against the backdrop of the pandemic normalising exchange of information digitally. According to a study conducted by ResumeLab, an alarming 93% of people know someone who has lied on their resumes.

The collaboration between FilPass and Affinidi enables organisations to access and verify credentials of their job applicants easily. As VCs can be verified digitally, as opposed to manually checking hard copy documents and certificates, this reduces the need for companies to contact users to verify individual credentials.

Users are given control over their VCs and digital identity, including the ability to choose what, when, and with whom they share their VCs. Once they have claimed their VCs on their Affinidi’s proprietary Ceal Wallet, users can then access its services marketplace by using their VCs to apply for jobs and more.

“This is an important collaboration empowering the entire talent acquisition ecosystem,” said Varsha Jagdale, General Manager of Financial Services in Affinidi. “Verifiable credentials enable employers to trust the information shared by applicants, while reducing the time and cost for verification. Candidate experience is tremendously improved as they get autonomy and do not have to gather information from different sources and share that with employers. We are excited to begin this journey with FilPass to bring disruptive innovation to the Philippines workforce.”

“This collaboration with Affinidi is timely as FilPass gains its momentum onboarding clients from both private and public sectors in the Philippines. With the recovering economy, more jobs will be available locally and abroad which allows FilPass end users to apply for them via Ceal,” said Ryan Soh, Founder and Chief Executive of FilPass. “FilPass is also preparing to close our Pre-Series A funding round as we accelerate our growth locally and gear up for regional expansion.”

About Affinidi

Affinidi is a core technology company that enables the creation, sharing, and verification of digital credentials that are portable and verifiable. Affinidi’s solutions empower trusted institutions to issue verifiable credentials to users, who can provide consent to share their credentials with other institutions, applications, or service providers, for verification. By sharing these verifiable data credentials, users can access valuable products and services across platforms and geographies in a trusted, open and interoperable manner.

About FilPass

FilPass is a digital identity that allows people and companies to operate with agencies online in a secure manner. Designed to be mobile-friendly, FilPass is equipped with security capabilities such as 2-stage verification (also known as 2FA) for digital transactions involving sensitive data. With 2FA, users will need to enter their FilPass ID and password, followed by entering a passcode in-app notification to allow access. This serves as an additional layer of security.

Yiwugo.com indices: “Down jacket” made the top 10 searches, with 45%+ YoY increase in trading volume

YIWU, China, Dec. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Yiwugo.com, the official website of the Yiwu Commodity Market, is the largest commodity wholesale market in the world. The world’s attention is focused on Qatar for the ongoing 2022 World Cup. While the tournament is heating up amid the warm temperatures of Qatar, the cold winter is approaching the Northern Hemisphere. According to the latest indices of Yiwugo.com, the search traffic for the keyword “down jacket” is rising. Being the 64th most searched term two months ago, this keyword has lifted its name into the top 10 searches since last week and sits at the ninth place now.

According to the big data of Yiwugo.com, in the past six months, the search traffic for “down jacket” on Yiwugo.com was on a slow rise until it soared in September. The search traffic even skyrocketed in November, up 484% month-on-month over September and nearly 200% over October; the conversion rate was as high as above 800%. That means scores of targeted buyers were directed to Yiwugo.com everyday, who searched the keyword, clicked to browse and place orders on down jacket products. On Yiwugo.com, the total number of down jacket orders in the past six months ran very close to that of the same period last year, but the trading volume increased by 45% year-on-year. As the cold weather plays out as predicted, the down jacket market is picking up, and the trading volume of individual orders is increasing.

As shown by the data, despite the pandemic which continues to resurge, the European heating crisis and the cold winter of China have promised a sound market of thermal products. The down jacket market is delivering solid sales and most of the buyers clicked on the sub-keyword “long down jacket” and placed orders.

According to the head of Binghua Clothing Store at Huangyuan Garment Market, all of its down jacket orders this winter came from Yiwugo.com. On November 30, a new European customer contacted him through the website and purchased hundreds of men’s high-quality regular down jackets. He said that a lot more customers have come to inquire about down jackets and placed orders since this September, and many of them are new customers from Chile and Europe. Chilean customers prefer mid-length styles, while European customers who used to prefer wearing leather clothes and leather jackets to keep warm are buying down jackets now. Overall, the demand for down jackets is rising significantly this year.

This winter, thermal products such as hot water bags and electric blankets began to sweep the European market two months ago. Besides “down jackets”, the top 20 most-searched keywords on Yiwugo.com also include “cotton slippers”, “thermal mugs”, “men’s winter clothing”, “women’s winter clothing” and other seasonal products. Suppliers in related industries shall be well prepared for this shopping season.

43rd Honda Prize Awarded to Dr. Hidetoshi Katori for His Invention: Optical Lattice Clock That Loses Only 1 Second Per 30 Billion Years

TOKYO, Dec. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Honda Foundation in Tokyo held the 43rd Honda Prize Award Ceremony on November 17, 2022, where it awarded this year’s prize to Dr. Hidetoshi Katori, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo (Chief Scientist and Team Leader, RIKEN).

Hiroto Ishida, President of the Honda Foundation, commented, “Precise time measurement is becoming increasingly important in modern society. Dr. Katori’s invention, the optical lattice clock, is able to measure height differences of 1 cm using the relativistic effect that time moves more slowly where gravity is lower. We can anticipate that this will be important for disaster management, such as detecting volcanic magma rises, and pioneering new measurement technologies and research fields. In the spirit of the Honda Prize, Dr. Katori’s accomplishment is truly remarkable.”

Kazuko Matsumoto of the Honda Prize Selection Committee explained the selection process: “We asked 300 nominators from around the world and chose the winners from 27 groups of candidates from 11 countries. For selection, we considered not only the candidates’ goals and accomplishments but also how their inventions can improve people’s lives. Dr. Katori invented the optical lattice clock in 2001, which uses atoms trapped in an optical lattice to create an ultra-precise time standard. In contrast to the current international atomic time standard, cesium atomic clocks, which are accurate to about 15 digits, this new method can measure time to 18 digits. Dr. Katori was chosen for this award in recognition that the limitless possibilities of the technology fit with the idea behind the Honda Prize.”

Dr. Katori stated, “I am honored to receive the Honda Prize. I would like to thank both the Honda Foundation and selection committee. After decades of research, it has become important for me to leave behind results that will benefit mankind and society. While the research began out of curiosity, as it developed, I hoped to share it with society. I am thankful to have found a research field that has inspired me for so many years.”

He added, “I would like to make a smaller clock that measures in millimeters with 19-digit accuracy in 1,000 seconds. Along with downsizing and networking the clock, I have begun talking with geophysicists about targets for predicting volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Time measurement technology can be improved indefinitely, and these advancements will drive social change. Last year, I was asked to write the final chapter of a high school physics textbook. I imagine those students are now in university or working, where they are discovering real-world applications. I think it is time to pass the baton to the next generation of brilliant minds.”

Microsoft Merger With Activision-Blizzard Hits A Snag

The mega merger between Microsoft and video game publisher Activision-Blizzard may be under threat by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

image
Microsoft plans to acquire Activision-Blizzard in a $69 billion merger. Image source: True Achievements

As first reported by Politico, their sources have stated that the FTC is ““likely to file an antitrust lawsuit to block Microsoft’s $69 billion takeover of video game giant Activision Blizzard.” The FTC has concerns on the deal, primarily due to the large sum involved in the merger between these tech giants. FTC Chairperson Lina Khan has called for scrutiny on the impact of the deal on workers.

At the moment, there is no official word on a lawsuit against the merger, Politico themselves report that it is not guaranteed. Currently, investigations are ongoing, with major steps already completed such as depositions by CEO’s Satya Nadella (Microsoft) and Bobby Kotick (Activision). If the FTC decides to move forward with a case, it could come as early as December.

Why could the merger be controversial?

image 1
FTC Chairman Lina Khan is opposed to the merger, scrutinizing its impact on the market and workers. Image source: Getty Images via New York Post

There is precedence in this matter as the FTC has previously stopped the merger of book publishers Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster for a more modest fee of $2.2 billion. In that case, the ruling stated that the merger had the potential to be anticompetitive, which can affect both authors and indirectly, consumers. A similar scenario could occur in the tech giants merger, where there is less competition among game publishers which could promote less lucrative publishing deals for game developers.

As discussed by Kotaku, Microsoft has come under fire from its many competitors due to the merger. Sony has publicly stated their belief that the deal will harm their ability to compete, reduce the choice of games and less choice for developers to publish games. Sony may also be concerned for the Activision published Call of Duty series being withheld from the PlayStation with this deal, considering it is not made available to other subscription services yet. Google has raised their own concerns, arguing that Microsoft has already intentionally degraded the quality of the Game Pass subscription when used with the Chrome operating system, and has further incentive to steer sales away from Google with the Activision merger.

Rift in the FTC paves way for the merger

Recently, the New York Post reported that the four-member FTC panel of commissioners are split over the decision to oppose the merger. Reports stated that at least one commissioner has taken a “sympathetic view” to Microsoft, and potentially open to a settlement. If the rift persists, there is a possibility that no lawsuit will be filed and the merger will go ahead.

Given Activision-Blizzard’s recent fall from grace with their fans, most gamers would certainly rejoice for the merger with Microsoft, at least from a gaming perspective. However, would this merger really change the landscape of gaming for the worse in the long term? That remains to be seen.
