Bridgetek Introduces New Sensors and Actuators to Simplify IoT Implementation for Businesses

The sensors and actuators are designed to work together on a shared network known as the Long-Distance Sensor Bus (LDSBus). This simplifies the cabling significantly by using standard interconnects and distributing power to the attached devices. It also removes the complexity of interconnecting different devices, protocols, networks, and software, allowing them to work together seamlessly. All sensor data and actuator commands on the LDSBus are relayed to and from the IoTPortal via the proprietary Bridgetek IoTPortal Gateways.

Key features of the Bridgetek LDSBus include:

  • Easy installation: One CAT5/5e LDSBus cable with RJ45 connectors carries data and power
  • Flexible: LDSBus connections are daisy-chained using HVT-junctions. Each HVT-junction has four RJ12 ports for sensor/actuator modules
  • Long distance: Each bus can extend for up to 200m in each direction from the gateway
  • Easy configuration: No programming experience needed to configure the system
  • User-friendly: All sensors and actuators can all be monitored and controlled from the same intuitive app and dashboard
  • Efficient: Alerts via email, SMS and push notification avoid the need to constantly monitor the data and free up staff for other tasks

Business owners and employees can connect to the system, both locally and remotely, via the smartphone app and browser-based dashboard, and receive alerts and notifications. The intuitive and user-friendly interface reduces the learning curve while providing easy system configuration with no code development required.

The adoption of Internet Of Things (IoT) continues to grow as more and more industries realize the advantages it brings. Alongside technological advances, IoT systems are also evolving with simpler installation, which is opening the door to many users who traditionally did not consider intelligent solutions and existing users.

Mozilla Thunderbird Gets A K-9 on Its Mobile Journey

If you haven’t heard of Thunderbird, we wouldn’t blame you. The once popular open source email client has all but faded to obscurity since its last major update. The desktop version is still stuck in the early 2000s. When it comes to mobile, the email client is non-existent. Since its glory days from 2003 to 2005, the email client hasn’t had much of a visual overhaul nor has it made any strides to have a mobile presence of any kind.

Mozilla Thunderbird

That’s changed with a recent tweet from Ryan Lee Sipes, the product manager for Mozilla Thunderbird. In which he noted that his number 1 priority will be to fix Thunderbird’s UI and UX. The change will be a very very welcomed update – this coming from someone who still uses the email client. However, there isn’t a firm date when the big update will be coming. That said, the desktop app is due for its anniversary update on June 28. Could it be one and the same?

Aside from that, it looks like Mozilla is significant progress towards creating a mobile app for Thunderbird. Mozilla has acquired the trademark rights and source code of K-9 Mail on Android. This includes its GitHub repository. Together with all the code and repositories, Mozilla has also hired Christian Ketterer (cketti), the project’s maintainer. What this essentially means is that Thunderbird’s Android app will be built using the pre-existing code from K-9 Mail. Thankfully, this also means that the development timeframe for a Thunderbird mobile app can be significantly shortened.

It seems like together with the new UX and UI for the desktop application, Thunderbird will also be getting Firefox Sync as feature Mozilla Firefox users will be familiar with. This feature will allow you to sync emails, drafts and more between your different Thunderbird installs on mobile and on desktops. I’m pretty sure that this will be a welcomed development for anybody who finds themselves working on multiple devices.

K-9 Mail is already available on the Google Play Store. So, if you’re interested in contributing to the future of Mozilla Thunderbird, you can install the app as it is updated with features that will be central to the new Thunderbird mobile experience. Of course, if you do use the K-9 Mail app, you will need to potentially brace yourself for multiple UI and UX changes as the Thunderbird team builds on K-9 Mail. Once they’ve achieved their development milestones, the K-9 Mail app will conceivably be changed to Mozilla Thunderbird.

You Can Now Use Your Touch ‘n Go eWallet in Singapore

Touch ‘n Go eWallet just got a little more useful, especially if you frequent Singapore. TNG Digital Sdn Bhd announced that the eWallet will now work in Singapore. However, you will only be able to use it for payments when you use taxis operated by ComfortDelGro. The compatibility comes from Touch ‘n Go’s collaboration with Alipay+. Alipay+ is a suite of global cross-border digital payments and marketing solutions operated by the Ant Group.

TNG Digital Alipay Singapore

Alipay+ has been avaliable in the eWallet app for a while now. However, it seems like this is the first official application of the cross-border payment capabilities from Touch ‘n Go eWallet. While it was reported a while back that there seems to be compatibility for payments in Japan, there hasn’t been any official announcement from TNG Digital themselves.

Alan Ni, CEO of TNG Digital, indicates that this is merely the beginning when it comes to cross border payments – particularly in Singapore. Touch ‘n Go eWallet is in a unique position when it comes to cross-border payments as Touch ‘n Go Bhd has worked with Singapore’s EZLink for cross-border usage recently. The partnership and Alipay+ opens up a whole new level of convenience for Touch ‘n Go eWallet users who frequently commute between Singapore and Malaysia. This amounted to some 350,000 people before the pandemic.

TNG Digital hasn’t clarified if there are transactional fees when you use the eWallet overseas. However, they are having offers to celebrate the new collaboration with ComfortDelGro taxis. Users who use the eWallet to make payments until 25th June 2022 will be entitled to an instant discount of between MYR4 (SGD$1.26) and MYR6 (SGD$1.89). Discounts are varied between weeks and limited to the first 300 transactions daily.

Samsung’s Galaxy M53 5G Available for Pre-order in Malaysia

Samsung’s Galaxy M lineup was initially launched back in 2019 to serve an online-only market alongside the Galaxy A series. However, it seems like the Galaxy M is starting to encroach upon the Galaxy A series territory with its latest release – the Galaxy M53 5G.

Source: SenHeng/SenQ

The new smartphone comes with a 6.7-inch, FHD+ SuperAMOLED+ display. It comes with a resolution of 1080×2408 pixels and also Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy M53 will be running on the MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor with support for 5G connectivity. The 6nm processor promises more efficient power management which should mean better battery life with the 5000mAh battery.

The Galaxy M53 5G comes with a quad-camera setup for its main camera. The main camera sensor is a 108-megapixel wide angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. This is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, a 2-megapixel macro camera sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front is a 32-megapixel sensor for all your selfie needs.

in feature galaxy m53 5g sm m536 532194899
Source: SenHeng/SenQ

Connectivity-wise, it’s capable of Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6 connectivity and your regular GPS connectivity. It has support for 25W fast charging via its USB-C port.

However, that’s not where the phone encroaches on Galaxy A territory; the phone is now available for pre-order from Senheng for MYR1,999. That’s just shy of the MYR2,099 of the Galaxy A73 and more expensive than the Galaxy A53. While the Galaxy A does offer more in terms of software and features, the Galaxy M53 does have a lot of the software features that we see in the Galaxy A and Galaxy S series. So, where does the line stand with the Galaxy A and Galaxy M? Will you be getting it?

TradeWindow Standardises on Nintex Promapp to Support Global Growth

Software development company uses Nintex Promapp to discover, map, manage and govern its organisational business processes

MELBOURNE, Australia, June 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Nintex, the global standard for process intelligence and automation, today announced that software company TradeWindow has rapidly deployed Nintex Promapp® to support its recent expansion and to prepare for ambitious international growth.

“When a business is growing quickly, it’s critical to have well-documented processes in place,” said Andrew Balgarnie, Chief Revenue Officer, TradeWindow. “This provides clarity across teams, particularly with new staff members, on how processes operate and ensures clear lines of communication.”

As an early-stage software development company, TradeWindow provides digital solutions to exporters, importers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers. The software delivers back-office productivity gains, connectivity with supply-chain partners, and visibility of how products are moving through those supply chains.

Rapid growth demands standardisation

With its headquarters in New Zealand, TradeWindow also has significant operations in Australia and Singapore. During the past three-and-a-half years, the firm has grown from a staff of five to more than 90 people. The Nintex Promapp deployment project began in late 2021 and took just eight weeks to complete and make full use of the platform.

“You can imagine the growth pressures we experienced during this time,” said Balgarnie. “People were pursuing a range of objectives and operating in different ways. We knew this needed to be addressed before we grew any larger, which is when the decision was made to deploy Nintex Promapp.”

Having Nintex Promapp in place has also helped the team at TradeWindow as they work towards their listing on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, since fully documented risks and processes are a basic requirement for a listed company.

Focus on value-adding tasks

With Nintex Promapp fully operational and all core processes fully mapped, TradeWindow is realizing significant business benefits. Activities are now conducted consistently across all locations and a number of previous inefficiencies that existed have been removed.

“Where teams are no longer caught up in administrative tasks, we actually found that energy can be refocused to better serve our customers,” Balgarnie concluded. “With Nintex Promapp in place, we now have the platform that can help us achieve this goal.”

Telegram Looks to Add Paid “Premium” Tier

Telegram is arguably one of the more popular messaging apps. The app rose to prominence when the world was looking for an alternative to the Meta-owned WhatsApp and Messenger messaging apps. The app’s robust features propelled it into the limelight and it has continued to grow since.

That might be slowing down soon as the company looks to expand the app further. In order to support the many features and extensive development and adoption of the app, its founder, Pavel Durov, took to Telegram to say that they will be introducing a paid “Premium” tier to the app. It’s unclear what exactly the “Premium” tier will bring in terms of features and support, but it looks like the free version isn’t going anywhere soon.

Photo by Dima Solomin on Unsplash

In his announcement, Durov states, “…many have been asking us to raise the current limits even further, so we looked into ways to let you go beyond what is already crazy. The problem here is that if we were to remove all limits for everyone, our server and traffic costs would have become unmanageable, so the party would be unfortunately over for everyone…. After giving it some thought, we realized that the only way to let our most demanding fans get more while keeping our existing features free is to make those raised limits a paid option.”

While it seems like an earnest effort to help expand and improve the application, Durov is also looking into expanding the company. He reassures that the app’s current features will continue to be offered free of charge. However, those that choose to subscribe to Telegram Premium will get early dibs on new features and some extra benefits like larger file sizes when sending files. Telegram Premium will be rolling out sometime this month according to the announcement.

A dive into the Telegram Reddit uncovers some rumours that Telegram Premium will be available for MYR5. If you subscribe, it looks like you’ll be able to access extended emoticons and even access to send files of up to 4GB in size. This is twice the amount present in any gaming PC so far. Reddit also theories that the Premium subscription could start from USD$5.

HTC Teases a Comeback to Mobile

HTC was one of the largest competitors in the smartphone space back in the 2010s, however, the company abruptly turned heels in 2018. Its last true, international flagship was the U11 which was released in 2017. That said, the company seems to be gearing up to release another flagship smartphone this June.

HTC Taiwan released a teaser on their Facebook and Twitter pages teasing a new smartphone coming on the 28th of June 2022. Of course, the company’s recent focus on VR and their Metaverse competitor, Viverse, isn’t left behind. It looks like the upcoming smartphone is going to play an integral part in the Viverse. The teaser comes as quite the surprise as the company’s MWC 2022 promises seemed to have hit a snag shortly after.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much, however. The poster just shows a rectangular outline with some perspective as other rectangles fade into the largest one. However, if you look close enough, you can see two indentations in the rectangle which many are suspecting might be an indication of some of the upcoming phone’s I/O features. There are two visible on the poster, one on the right side which looks like a side-mounted fingerprint reader and another up in the top right corner which could indicate a 3.5mm jack.

Other than this, there isn’t really much on the upcoming HTC phone. Given their focus on the Viverse, we wouldn’t be surprised if the smartphone is a true HTC flagship with top-of-the-line specifications. We are hoping that HTC brings a powerful, capable smartphone to give some competition internationally to companies like Samsung and Apple. We specify internationally because, as of last year, HTC has been releasing a few new smartphones within the Taiwan market.

We’ve seen some indication that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 could be powering the smartphone. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation from HTC themselves just yet. Guess we’ll just have to wait for 28th June 2022.
