Aboriginal Male Healing Centre’s Holistic Approach Breaks Cycle of Domestic Violence with Data-driven Case Management Solution Built in Western Australia

>> ECINS works with Centre to custom build new client engagement module to establish rehabilitation program for domestic violence offenders with long-term successful outcomes

NEWMAN, Australia, Jan. 20, 2022 — The Aboriginal Male Healing Centre (AMHC), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to making an impact on domestic violence and its effect on communities and families, partnered with ECINS, Australia’s most collaborative case management system, to record data, demonstrate results, apply for grants, attract socially enterprising investors, and receive more funding to grow their organisation and support more clients.

Solution built to meet challenges AMHC faced in Western Australia

AMHC’s efforts are focused in Newman, a Western Australian mining town with a large indigenous community. Financial inequality coupled with historical oppression has caused the people of Newman to become vulnerable to poverty, homelessness, alcoholism, drug abuse, and an extremely high incidence of domestic violence. Operating with limited resources, AMHC worked with ECINS to create a solution specifically for the challenges that the organisation was facing.

By deploying the ECINS Client Engagement Module – the mobile application developed in Western Australia – as part of their collaborative case management solution, AMHC recognised a significant increase in its impact.

Streamlining key to successful outcomes for rehabilitation program

"The Client Engagement Module streamlines the whole support process for the participants," said Devon Cuimara, the Chief Executive Officer at AMHC. "Clients are now empowered to take charge of their healing process. We knew if we could give the offender and the family support mechanisms, we could enable them to maintain vigilance."

Equipped with comprehensive statistical data demonstrating their program’s efficacy, AHMC has expanded its services to more people while developing an application for a $40 million government endowment to develop a residential facility to further their support offerings.

Cutting edge innovation helps AMHC secure funding for continued impact

Cuimara continues, "Our partnership with ECINS gives us a competitive advantage and places us at the cutting edge of monitoring and evaluation. This is going to be a significant catalyst in our success in securing funding moving forward."

The results are already evident. The partnership positioned AMHC to enhance their offerings, including a new "walk-up" service that allows people to self-refer into the program.

"Supporting the whole person is essential to the organisation serving the client successfully," explains Thomas Pettengell, ECINS’ Australia Operations Manager. "Our Client Engagement Module was developed right here in Western Australia, and we are thrilled with the ways it’s already helping AMHC more effectively serve their community and expand their capabilities."

About ECINS

ECINS is a not-for-profit social enterprise looking to create a better society by encouraging a smarter, more collaborative way of working across the public and third sectors. ECINS serves Australia from its offices in Dunsborough, Western Australia, helping health and human services civil servants, government agencies, social entrepreneurs, charities, organisations and teams evidence their impact and empower their teams to make better, more informed decisions. Too early to bottom-fish in China’s property bonds, Greifenberg Digital says

NEW YORK, Jan. 20, 2022  — Greifenberg Digital, a member of the IMTE Group, commented today on the risks to Chinese property bonds as gauged by its suite of quantitative models.

"Large parts of China’s property bond market are still too risky for investors," Jerry Lucas of Greifenberg Digital said after the bulk of US dollar bonds of Chinese property companies closed at new lows. The Bloomberg Index of high-yield Chinese bonds denominated in US currency (Bloomberg ID I36616 Index) closed January 18 at 53.7, down from a March 2021 peak of 120. "Although bonds of some property companies with stronger balance sheet have risen in price today [January 19], more leveraged developers remain subject to very high default risk, according to our models."

US dollar bonds of Country Gardens, one of the stronger developers, rose in Hong Kong January 19 on hopes of easier regulatory and monetary policy, according to financial news reports.

"For most developers, the equity buffer for creditors remains extremely thin, and default risk remains elevated. More clarity is required both from issuers and regulators before the riskier part of the property market becomes attractive," Lucas added.

Greifenberg Digital recently released Credit AI, a suite of risk analytics that applies Artificial Intelligence/Big Data technology to a universe of 30,000 Chinese corporate bonds. Credit AI models forecasted the crisis in China’s property bond market last year, according to a Greifenberg White Paper released on December 7.

"The equity buffer on the balance sheets of the stronger property companies is shrinking as they sell assets and raise equity at a discount," said Lucas, a managing director at Greifenberg. "The shrinking equity buffer in turn leaves the property sector closer to default."

China’s high yield market lost ground in the second half of 2021, and continued to show losses during the first two weeks of January 2022.

Sunac China Holdings Limited (1918.HK) January 12 issued equity in Hong Kong at a 15% discount to the previous day’s close, and its stock led the property market down.

Credit AI uses four models, including a contingent claims analysis module that prices the issuer’s option to default. Less equity on the balance sheet and higher equity volatility increase the probability of default in this model, based on the work of Nobel Prize winner Robert Merton.

The Greifenberg models also analyze sentiment via Natural Language Processing of news and social media and apply machine learning to balance sheet analysis.

"The Merton approach gives us a real-time indicator of credit risk," Lucas added. "What we observe from the equity price and volatility of the more vulnerable property companies tells us that default risk remains elevated."

"In the case of Fantasia Holdings Group Co., Limited (1777.HK), distance to default as calculated by the contingent claims analysis model had fallen for six months before Fantasia’s bond price fell in July 2021. That’s been true for most of the distressed property companies. One or more of the Credit AI models sent out a warning signal well in advance of the event," Lucas added.

"If we look at where Fantasia’s default risk is trading today, we see that there has been no real improvement, and its bond price continues to bounce along the bottom."

"We see a nearly identical pattern in the case of Kaisa Group Holdings Ltd (1638.HK). For example, Kaisa’s distance to default had been shrinking since the middle of June 2021, but the bond price didn’t react until October.

"Now we see that distance to default remains extremely low, and Kaisa’s bond price is following it down."

"The market is telling us that the underlying assets of the highly levered property companies are still subject to price discovery. There are a lot of unknowns, including the extent to which state-owned banks will lend to distressed property companies, and the terms on which state-owned enterprises will buy assets from weak hands. The Chinese government is likely to favor homebuyers who have already made down payments for apartments and suppliers over bondholders. Net, we think investors should wait for clarity before bargain hunting."

Samsung’s AMD RDNA 2 Equipped Exynos 2200 is Official

Samsung’s much anticipated Exynos 2200 with AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture incorporated in its GPU is finally official. The partnership was initially announced back in 2019 and has been one of the most anticipated developments in mobile silicon. The new system on a chip (SoC) will be making its official, commercial debut with the release of Samsung’s next flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S22 series.

Better Security & 5G Connnectivity

The new Exynos 2200 will be one of the first commercially available processors to use the new ARMv9 standard bringing new advancements that provide better overall security. The SoC is made using 4nm technology with a more power-efficient architecture. It consists of one ARM Cortex X2 flagship core with 3 high-performance Cortex 710 big-cores and 4 power-efficient Coretex 510 small-cores. The octa-core SoC comes with a more powerful neural processing unit (NPU) which has double the performance of the previous generation thanks to the increased number of parallel computations that can be done. The more powerful NPU translates to better AI performance with increased precision thanks to the employment of FP16 (16bit floating point) in combination with the power-efficient INT8 and INT16.

exynos 2200

It’s a fully capable 5G equipped processor. The Exynos 2200 supports both sub6 and mmWave spectra thanks to the incorporation of a 3GPP Release 16 5G modem. Samsung is also boasting higher connectivity speeds of up to 10Gbps with its incorporation of E-UTRAN New Radio Dual Connectivity (EN-DC).

On the imaging side of things, the new Exynos 2200 will come with an image signal processor (ISP) which is able to support up to 200-megapixel resolution. It also has support for up to 108-megapixel sensors and combinations of 64+36-megapixel sensors at 30fps and up to 8K or 4K HDR video.

XClipse – Enabling Next Generation Content with Ray Tracing with AMD RDNA 2 Technology

The crowning glory of the Exynos 2200 comes in the form of its new XClipse hybrid graphics processor. The new GPU is using AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture to unlock graphics that have been, until now, reserved for consoles and PCs. Using the RDNA2 architecture, the new SoC is unlocking both Ray Tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS). What’s more, these technologies will be able to run natively on the hardware rather than remotely through the cloud.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeAxDgfat0M

Ray Tracing technology will allow mobile gaming to level up significantly. The technology will allow game developers to mimic the behaviour of light more realistically in games. Details such as the colour, angle and characteristics of light rays as they interact, bounce and refract off surfaces can be simulated more accurately with RT. To ensure that performance isn’t sacrificed when deploying RT, developers can also take advantage of VRS which allows them to prioritise rendering to items that will affect the overall gaming experience. Items in the background can be deprioritised with lower frame rates to allow better processing and resource management. This would translate into better performing graphics particularly when it comes to gaming.

The Exynos 2200 is entering mass production as of this announcement. It’s poised to make its official debut together with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy flagship – the Galaxy S22 series.

Microsoft to Buy Embattled Activision Blizzard

After months of growing legal battles and losing some of its top talents, Activision Blizzard may be getting a much-needed break. Microsoft is sweeping in to acquire the game developer for a whopping USD$68.7 billion. The acquisition will make Microsoft the third biggest gaming company behind Tencent and Sony.

Activision Blizzard’s acquisition will give Microsoft access to IPs from Blizzard, Activision and King studios. This includes titles like Diablo, StarCraft, Warcraft and Overwatch in Blizzard’s portfolio; Candy Crush in King’s portfolio; and Call of Duty, Destiny and more in Activision’s portfolio. These game IPs are apparently making their way to XBOX’s GamePass sometime after the acquisition has been finalised.

Microsoft-Activision Blizzard Acquisition Header
Source: Activision Blizzard

While the acquisition may seem like a big win, it may not be in the best interest of gamers as we’ve already seen Microsoft use acquisitions to bolster its exclusive games catalogue. Most recently, the company acquired ZeniMax which owns popular game studio Bethesda. In the wake of that acquisition, Bethesda has already announced that the latest instalment of one of its most popular IPs, Elder Scrolls VI, will be exclusive to XBOX. While it’s still too early to say if games like Diablo and Overwatch will be exclusive to Microsoft, it is something that gamers should be wary of.

In addition to this, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard isn’t addressing the underlying issues which have been plaguing the company. In fact, in its announcement, Activision Blizzard has confirmed that embattled CEO, Bobby Kotik, will continue as the CEO for now. Activision Blizzard has had a tumultuous 2021 plagued with workplace issues that have come to light thanks to multiple lawsuits.

However, Microsoft’s new CEO of Gaming, Phil Spencer, mentions in his email to employees, “Microsoft is committed to our journey for inclusion in every aspect of gaming, among both employees and players. We deeply value individual studio cultures. We also believe that creative success and autonomy go hand-in-hand with treating every person with dignity and respect. We hold all teams, and all leaders, to this commitment.”. Hopefully, this holds true when it comes to dealing with their latest acquisition’s colourful state beyond the close of the acquisition. Beyond the acquisition, Activision Blizzard will be reporting to Phil Spencer which leaves many of the concerns raised by both gamers and Activision Blizzard’s developers at his doorstep.

XBOX Gaming OrgChart
Source: Activision Blizzard

That aside, Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is a huge development in the gaming industry as a whole. It could be the jolt the industry needed to push it forward to adapt to a newer approach to gaming experiences including VR. In fact, in their statements, Microsoft’s leadership has indicated that their vision of the now trending, “metaverse”, is one that is populated by creative content that can be consumed at any time.

Microsoft’s acquisition comes at a crucial point in the development of some of Activision Blizzard’s most anticipated titles including the much anticipated Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 and Diablo’s foray into mobile, Diablo Immortal. Having had such a tumultuous year, the games are in need of an infusion of quality leadership and talent.

The new acquisition is pending the approval of regulators and the shareholders of both companies. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is expected to close by the end of Microsoft’s fiscal year in June 2023.

Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea, thanked the UAE for welcoming him to the country and inviting him to participate in the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. In his keynote speech, he said, "As the first event of its kind since COP26, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a kick start to carbon neutrality this year, offering strength through unity. This event holds great significance with the UAE hosting COP28 in 2023 – a milestone for the country’s journey over the next 50 years. The UAE is a powerhouse of sustainable development for the Middle East and beyond, with pathways showing the way for the rest of the world."

He continued, "Last year, the UAE became the first one in the Middle East to commit to carbon neutrality by 2050. Korea too in 2020 declared its commitment to carbon neutrality. And the UAE and Korea both committed to cutting methane by 30 percent by 2030. The UAE and Korea, as special strategic partners, have been working together in the fields of construction, oil field development, national defence, agriculture, health, and much more. This demonstrates the robust relations between our two nations. For our sustainable future, Korea hopes to hold hands together with the UAE even more tightly. Now our two countries are working together to build an economy based on hydrogen – a potential new source of energy in the age of carbon neutrality."

In his keynote address, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change and Chairman of Masdar, addressed the challenge of maintaining economic progress, while turning back the clock on emissions.

He said, "Finding the answers to these questions has been the mission of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the Zayed Sustainability Prize. A mission that builds on the UAE’s position as a pioneer in clean energy. When we began investing in the renewables space more than 15 years ago, our leadership had a theory of the future that has been proven right over time. Today, the UAE is home to the largest and lowest cost solar plants in the world. And globally the future of renewable energy is just as bright."

The objectives of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week are in line with the "Principles of the 50," the 10 principles that represent the UAE’s strategic path in a new era and reflect the country’s vision and determination to promote development efforts in various economic, political and social fields.

As one of the largest gatherings concerned with discussing sustainability issues, ADSW provides a global platform for cooperation, knowledge exchange, investment and innovation, as it attracts more than 45,000 participants annually representing more than 170 countries and hosts nearly 1,000 international companies.

The Emotional Footprint makes the SoftwareReviews Data Quadrant unique as it is the inclusion of aggregated emotional response ratings in the areas of service, negotiation, product impact, conflict resolution, and strategy and innovation. This creates a powerful indicator of overall user feeling toward the vendor and its product from the software users’ point of view.

"In increasingly competitive markets, it’s essential for companies to equip their sales teams with tools that will give them an edge. Sales enablement tools provide robust capabilities that speed up salesperson onboarding, provide actionable coaching recommendations and allow sales staff to zero in on high-value actions and collateral that will allow them to close deals faster. Bigtincan provides an impressive array of capabilities across the sales lifecycle – from learning management tools to aid in skills development to a robust coaching engine targeted at building sales proficiencies in a highly scalable manner," said Ben Dickie, Research Lead at Info-Tech Research Group.

Picosun part of extensive quantum technology development project

HELSINKI, Jan. 18, 2022 — Picosun takes part as an industrial partner in QuTI, a recently launched extensive research project aiming to develop new components, manufacturing and testing solutions that are needed in quantum technology. Quantum technology has gained interest in a vast array of industries on a large scale. The remarkable performance improvements it offers enable for example powerful computing and benefits in communications, healthcare, sensors, imaging and measurement applications.

The QuTI project is coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and it has a total budget of around 10 million euros. Other industrial partners of the consortium include Bluefors, Afore, IQM, Rockley Photonics, CSC, Quantastica, Saab and Vexlum. The research partners are VTT, Aalto University and the University of Tampere.

"Quantum technology is a multidisciplinary and rapidly advancing field. The QuTI consortium provides an ideal starting point for strengthening the international competitiveness of Finnish technology and industry in this fast-growing field," says QuTI project’s coordinator, Research Professor Mika Prunnila from VTT.

"Quantum technology has already taken the step from research laboratories to commercial applications. We look forward in supporting this development trend even further and being part of creating a globally competitive industrial ecosystem in Finland around this technology," says Dr. Jani Kivioja, CTO of Picosun Group.

"Atomic Layer Deposition, or ALD, is the advanced thin film coating method for ultra-thin, highly uniform and conformal material layers that enables the digital solutions of today. It will also play a crucial role in future innovations and in the quantum computing, communication and sensing devices that will be developed in the QuTI project", continues Jussi Rautee, CEO of Picosun Group.
