Nel ASA: Selected by Iberdrola as preferred supplier for a 20 MW green fertilizer project in Spain

OSLO, Norway, Nov. 4, 2020 — Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser, a division of Nel ASA (Nel, OSE:NEL), has been selected as preferred supplier by Iberdrola for a 20 MW PEM solution for a green fertilizer project in Spain. Contract award is subject to mutual agreement on the final commercial terms. The hydrogen plant is scheduled to commence operations in 2021.

Iberdrola, one of the largest electricity utilities in the world, has together with a world-leading fertilizer manufacturer Fertiberia launched a project to establish the largest green hydrogen plant in Europe. Located in Puertollano, Spain it will feature a 100 MW photovoltaic plant, a battery installation with a storage capacity of 20 MWh, and a 20 MW electrolyser. The hydrogen produced in the project will primarily be used for green fertilizer production. The 20 MW electrolyser is scheduled to commence operations in 2021.

Contract award is subject to mutual agreement on the final agreement on terms and conditions, technical details, and board approval.

300mm Fab Spending to Boom Through 2023 With Two Record Highs, SEMI Reports


Chip industry to add 38 new 300mm fabs by 2024

MILPITAS, California, Nov. 3, 2020 — 300mm fab investments in 2020 will grow by 13% year-over-year (YoY) to eclipse the previous record high set in 2018 and log another banner year for the semiconductor industry in 2023, SEMI reported today in its 300mm Fab Outlook to 2024. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked the 2020 surge in fab spending by accelerating digital transformations worldwide, and the increase is expected to stretch into 2021.

Powering the growth is rising demand for cloud services, servers, laptops, gaming and healthcare technology. Fast-evolving technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), automotive, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning that continue to fuel demand for greater connectivity, large data centers and big data are also behind the increase.

"The COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating a digital transformation sweeping across nearly every industry imaginable to reshape the way we work and live," said Ajit Manocha, SEMI president and CEO. "The projected record spending and 38 new fabs reinforce the role of semiconductors as the bedrock of leading-edge technologies that are driving this transformation and promise to help solve some of the world’s greatest challenges."

Growth in semiconductor fab investments will continue in 2021 but at a slower rate of 4% YoY. Mirroring previous industry cycles, the report also predicts a mild slowdown in 2022 and another slight downturn in 2024 following a $70 billion record high in 2023. See figure 1.

Adding 38 New 300mm Fabs 

The SEMI 300mm Fab Outlook to 2024 shows the chip industry adding at least 38 new 300mm volume fabs from 2020 to 2024, a conservative projection that does not factor in low-probability or rumored fab projects. During the same period, per-month fab capacity will grow by about 1.8 million wafers to reach over 7 million. See figure 2.

Under a high-probability project forecast, the industry will add at least 38 new 300mm volume fabs from 2019 to 2024. Taiwan will add 11 volume fabs and Mainland China eight to account for half of the total. The chip industry will command 161 300mm volume fabs by 2024.

Capacity and Spending Growth by Region

Mainland China will rapidly increase its global share of 300mm capacity, from 8% in 2015 to 20% in 2024, reaching 1.5 million 300mm wpm in the final year of the reporting period. While non-Chinese companies will account for a substantial portion of that growth, Chinese-owned organizations are accelerating their capacity investments. These companies will represent about 43% of Mainland China’s fab capacity in 2020, a proportion expected to reach 50% by 2022 and 60% by 2024.

Japan’s share of 300mm installed capacity continues to trend downward, from 19% in 2015 to 12% in 2024. The Americas’ share is also ticking lower, from 13% in 2015 to a projected 10% in 2024.

The biggest regional spenders will be Korea, with investments between US$15 billion and US$19 billion, followed by Taiwan, which will pour between US$14 billion and US$17 billion into 300mm fabs, and then Mainland China, with between US$11 billion and $13 billion in investments. 

Regions spending less will see the steepest increases in investments between 2020 to 2024.  Europe/Mideast will lead the pack with impressive 164% growth, followed by Southeast Asia at 59%, Americas at 35%, and Japan at 20%.

Spending Growth by Product Sector

Memory accounts for the bulk of the increase in 300mm fab spending. Actual and forecast investments show a steady rise in the upper single digits for each year from 2020 to 2023, with a stronger increase of 10% in store for 2024.

DRAM and 3D NAND contributions to 300mm fab spending will be uneven from 2020 to 2024. Investments for logic/MPU, however, will see steady improvement from 2021 to 2023. Power-related devices will be the standout sector in 300mm fab investments, with over 200% growth in 2021 and double-digit increases in 2022 and 2023.

Tracking 286 fabs and lines from 2013 to 2024, the 300mm Fab Outlook to 2024 reflects 247 updates to 104 fabs, nine new fab and line listings, and two cancellations since the publication of the March 2020 report.

The sequel will have all the action packed gameplay that made the original Spider-Man one of the best titles on the PS4 but it will take it to a whole new level with better graphics, more immersive gaming and even some surprises for players. Marvel’s story telling will, of course, take center stage as they unfold a new chapter of the Spiderverse. The game is expected to launch on November 12, 2020 and will be a launch title for the PS5.

2. God of War: Ragnarök

It’s hard to deny that 2018’s God of War from Sony is still one of the best games on the PlayStation 4; so it comes as no surprise that Sony unveiled the next chapter in Kratos’ story just recently. The new chapter, God of War: Ragnarok, will continue two years after where God of War left off; telling the story that is unfolding as Kratos and his son, Atreus.

Although not much has been revealed of the game, we do know that this time, Kratos will be facing Ragnarök – the supposed end of the world according to Norse mythology. Seeing as how the tales of God of War has always seen Kratos’ going after a pantheon of Gods, it would be a surprise to see Kratos and Thor clash. The bar is set pretty high for this installation as God of War brought an action packed, open world adventure to the PS4 like no other. There is no actual date for the game released but we do know that it will be coming in 2021.

3. Cyberpunk 2077

The new open-world, role playing game from CD Projekt Red looks like it’s going to be an immediate hit thanks to it’s gigantic, open world. Being a CD Projekt Red title, it will undoubtedly come littered with side quests and immersive story missions. Cyberpunk 2077 is set in a futuristic world where humans and technology have converged. It will feature extensive character customisations, vehicles and character choice driven story-lines.

The stories will began as you choose your own life path. You’re able to choose from three paths: Street kid, Nomad or Corpo. Cyberpunk 2077’s story will revolve around V, the protagonist which the player controls while you explore the dystopian Night City. While not much else is known about the game, one thing is certain – you’ll be meeting Keeanu Reeves in your Cyberpunk 2077 exploits.

Cyberpunk 2077 was initially set to debut on 19 November 2020 as part of the PlayStation 5 launch title line up but CD Projekt Red made the announcement in a Tweet that the title will be delayed. The new release date is set for 10 December, 2020 – just in time to binge over Christmas. I

4. Far Cry 6

The Far Cry series is well known for several factors: its well-designed, expansive worlds, and a first-person immersion experience like no other. Far Cry 6 is the latest installment of the franchise.

In Far Cry 6, you take on the role as the revolutionary leader, Dani Rojas, a revolutionary in the thick of a battle for the future of Yara, a fictional Caribbean island. The country is divided and protests are taking over the place opposing the ongoing dictatorship of Anton Castillo, the antagonist of the title.

The title was initially set for release on 18 February 2021 for the PlayStation 5. However, Ubisoft has since pushed the release with a release window of between April 2021 and March 2022.

5. Final Fantasy XVI

A PlayStation generation would be incomplete without a Final Fantasy release. Final Fantasy XVI is an upcoming action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. The upcoming title has received a provisional rating of PEGI 18, the most mature that any Final Fantasy game has received.

The new epic in the Final Fantasy story will be taking place in the world of Valisthea – a land blessed in the Light of the Mothercrystals. However, the world is divided into six factions. The latest entry could be a continuation in the Fabula Nova Crystallis with the ethos centered around the crystals.

Final Fantasy XVI will feature a more robust combat system and will also feature the return of summons, known this time as Eikons. We’ve already seen Phoenix and Ifrit in the trailer. There is no actual date for Final Fantasy XVI released, but it is expected to launch at early of 2022. The title will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5

24 Hours with The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ – The Best Tablet Yet?

The biggest conundrum when it comes to the Android ecosystem has always been the tablet. Initially, the approach that a lot of Android manufacturers took was to just supersize the mobile experience. However, it has slowly become more evident that the tablet isn’t just a supersized screen. In fact, it has become a required commodity for some to keep productive. That behaviour change is what has led to the tablets becoming what they are now – productivity devices.

Samsung’s latest attempt at this is the Galaxy Tab S7 series which takes a more holistic view in how to empower productivity. It brings a whole bunch of new improvements and brand new features that make working on the go with it that much more enjoyable, accessible and effective. That said, let’s walkthrough some of the first impressions you get from the tablet.

Initial Setup

Like any other Samsung or Android device, the tablet turns on pretty fast. The first thing you’re going to see is the setup interface asking you to sign in to your WiFi or to all the different accounts you want to have on your tablet. If you’ve got a version capable of mobile connectivity, it will ask you to insert and unlock your SIM.

Samsung SmartSwitch

Setup was a breeze and, if you’re coming from another tablet, the Tab S7+ will prompt you to use Samsung’s SmartSwitch to seamlessly transfer your data over to the new tablet. This includes all your settings such as WiFi and your accounts.

However, we chose to set it up as a new device. It took less than 10 minutes to get my essentials like WiFi, Google Account and more setup. Then it was on to setting up our apps which was simple enough. We downloaded apps such as Microsoft Office, Any.Do and more. We tried to make sure we got the apps which Samsung was touting as optimised for the Tab S7+.

Premium Finish with Heft

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ gives a pretty first impression. It’s design is clean with clean, rounded edges and screen that covers nearly the whole face of the tablet. On the back you have a pristine machined aluminium body with a brushed finish. The camera is emblazoned with a black, reflective bar which also acts as an indicator as to where the magnets for the S Pen are.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is the one of the most premium feeling tablets I have had the pleasure of using from Samsung. The angular design and rounded edges give the tablet a more premium feel. I was pretty impressed with the initial feel of the device as well, it had a good amount of heft and the build itself felt sturdy and well-built. The Mystic Black colour makes it look even more premium and gives it a sleek, timeless look.

The S Pen Mightier than Before

The S Pen of the Tab S7+ brings along with it a whole array of new features but more importantly, it has been redesigned to feel so much more natural in hand. The smooth, rounded body of the S Pen make it more ergonomic and the positioning of the button this round is in a place that feels a lot more natural – even clicking the button some how feels more satisfying.

The new S Pen features bring a layer of productivity that hasn’t been around in previous entries. However, the biggest improvement that comes to mind is the amount of apps that can now effectively take advantage of it – from apps like Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator to the Microsoft Office suite, the level of integration and compatibility of the S Pen puts it on par with it’s largest competition – the iPad.

First Impressions After 24 Hours

The Galaxy Tab S7+ leaves an impression alright. The first 24 hours of using the tab felt a lot like using and setting up a new laptop. The keyboard, which comes together with the Tab S7 series in Malaysia, allows a sense of freedom to be productive answering emails and even typing out articles. To be very frank, it was hard to not try to do everything on the tablet.

The interface is smooth and feels more optimised than before. There’s sense of refinement in the overall experience – at least in the first 24 hours compared to the tablets before. Things felt cleaner, more organised and built for productivity. The best part of the tab is that every thing is in reach – the tablet, the keyboard and the S Pen; making it easy to seamlessly transition from answering emails to sketching to reading and highlighting.

When it comes to tablets, Android has had the shorter end of the stick – particularly when it comes to optimisation and overall usability. However, Samsung has steadily been imbuing their approach to tablets with more and more features and software enhancements that have steadily made their Tab S one of the best Android tablets out there. This year, with their Galaxy Tab S7+, they’ve created one that gave me one of the best first impressions I’ve had from an Android Tablet.

MIT Researchers Develop AI Model that Accurately Identifies Asymptomatic COVID-19 Carriers

The COVID-19 Pandemic doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. The virus continues to spread drastically and have a devastating effect in areas where outbreaks have occurred. However, since the early days of the pandemic, there have been reports of asymptomatic carriers; these carriers are able to spread the virus without showing any outwardly recognisable signs of infection. This also makes them one of the largest unsolved problems of the current COVID-19 pandemic. This group of individuals are less likely to seek testing and, in turn, be diagnosed and treated.

However, that’s about to change. A group of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed an AI model that has been able to accurately identify asymptomatic carriers based on the way they cough. The AI model has been able to accurately discern and identify 98.5% of coughs from confirmed COVID-19 patients and 100% of asymptomatic carriers.

Using A.I. to Identify Unique Markers in Coughs

The team at MIT, consisting of Jodi Laguarta, Ferran Hueto, and Brian Subirana, developed the mode on a neural network called ResNet50. ResNet50 is a type of neural network that is able to discern and identify differences and similarities in data. Until now, ResNet50 was used primarily in visual discernment. However, the team at MIT has applied it in identifying markers when people cough.

Their model was initially developed to help detect early signs of Alzheimer’s which can present in the way people cough. This include the person’s emotional state, changes in lung and respiratory performance and vocal chord strength. These are known markers for someone who could be experiencing early onset Alzheimer’s.

Using the three criteria, three independent machine learning algorithms were train and then layered on each other. The team also included an algorithm for muscular degeneration on top of the model. In tandem, these machine learning layers made it possible for the team to detect and identify samples from Alzheimer’s patients.

Detecting the Indiscernible

In April, the team looked into applying the AI model to help identify COVID-19 patients. To do this, they established a website where people could record a series of coughs with their mobile phone or any other web enabled device. In addition to their submissions, participants had to fill up a survey of their symptoms, COVID-19 status, and if their method of diagnosis. Other factors such as their native language, geographical location and gender were also collected. They have, to date, collected over 70,000 recordings which amounts to about 200,000 forced cough samples. This is the largest known cough dataset that has been collected so far according to Brian Subirana.

The model proves a long known fact that COVID-19 does in fact affect respiratory function. However, it also draws similarities between the presentation of temporary respiratory degeneration to the neurodegeneration present in Alzheimer’s patients. That said, it also shows that there are sub-clinical presentations of the disease in asymptomatic individuals. The AI algorithm is able to detect and identify individuals with these presentations, providing a much needed boost to potential diagnoses of these individuals.

More significantly, the team has developed a method in which pre-screening can be done to help curb the spread of COVID-19. What’s more, their research could be the foundation of future diagnosis when it comes to sub-clinical presentations of diseases. That said, Brian Subirana highlights that the strengths of the tool lies in its ability to differentiate coughs from asymptomatic carriers from healthy individuals. He also stresses that it is not meant to be used as a definitive test for COVID-19.

The event will also play an important role in helping to revive many businesses following the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

Consumers can also look forward to a wider assortment this 11.11, with leading international brands including Lancome, Marks & Spencer, Miniso, Swatch, and TopShop participating in Lazada’s 11.11 for the first time this year. Over 70 brands including 3M, Adidas, Kiehl’s, Lego, Pampers, Philips, Polo Ralph Lauren and Xiaomi have also partnered with Lazada to create a visually fun brand showcase, featuring signature and loved products from their exclusive 11.11 catalogue this year.

Local brands take centerstage, powered by Lazada’s technology and logistics infrastructure

From Prism+ in Singapore, Signature Markets in Malaysia to Wardah in Indonesia, homegrown local brands take centerstage as Lazada promotes the development and sustainability of young brands, some who have only made the online switch this year, to take on their first 11.11 shopping festival with Lazada.

In support of over 150,000 local brands and sellers in our markets, Lazada extended stimulus packages offering cash funds to subsidise start-up costs, and helped small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) optimize cash flow by partnering with financial institutions. Being able to leverage Lazada’s technology and logistics infrastructure boosted the operational capabilities of local businesses from agri-farmers in Malaysia and the Philippines, to artisanal craftsmen in Thailand and Vietnam, and helped them diversify their revenue source.

Lazada’s logistics network covers six countries across Southeast Asia and is ready to handle peak-time order volumes. This network, which includes over 15 warehouse facilities, over 400 sortation centres and hubs and is supported by 45 logistics partners, is ready for volumes from domestic and cross-border sales of over 30 times the norm this 11.11 season. In addition, Lazada is expecting its logistics fleet to see a 25% increase in mileage fulfilling orders this 11.11, compared to last year.

Consumers enjoy vouchers, promotions and deals through new Shoppertainment features

Besides an improved browsing and product discovery experience, shoppers can anticipate benefits including over 200 million deals with maximised value and free shipping where available. With over 700 million vouchers offering discounts of 10% off or more, there will be at least eight vouchers available for each of Lazada’s active consumers.
