HONG KONG, Oct. 16, 2020 — Cyberport Venture Capital Forum (CVCF), Cyberport’s annual tech investment event, will return on 3-4 November. This year’s event will be held in a virtual and interactive format for the first time, covering how the tech venture ecosystem has been reshaped under the new normal for investors, enterprises and technopreneurs. The two-day virtual forum will gather more than 50 global venture capital (VC) experts to examine key silver linings through a plethora of illuminating keynotes and panel discussions. Furthermore, over 80 virtual booths will be set up for start-ups to showcase innovative tech solutions as part of a comprehensive platform to connect start-ups with investors for power pitching and provide extensive opportunities to explore tech venturing dynamics.

As the digital tech flagship in Hong Kong, Cyberport is dedicated to facilitating deal flow for start-ups and enriching the regional VC landscape. Echoing the event’s overarching theme, "Navigating New Normal of Tech Venturing", over 50 international and local experts from major industry players, including Qiming Venture Partners, Alibaba Group, IESE Business School, PayU-Prosus, Vickers Venture Partners, Golden Gate Ventures, Genesis Alternative Ventures, Sino Group, Rethink Education, Blue Elephant Capital, HashKey Digital Asset Group, Angelhub, Radiant Venture Capital, Asia GreenTech Fund, Lingfeng Capital and LEGO Ventures, will discuss the latest global paradigm shift in the tech venturing landscape that has stemmed from the current macro-economic outlook and mega trends, covering topics such as the latest strategies from VC and corporate ventures, new investment spaces like venture debt, the development of education technology (EdTech), the geo-political impact of cross-border capital flow and investor orientations with regards to the trade tensions and Asia market dynamics, digital transformation in high potential verticals, funding strategies for start-ups, and more.

Cindy Chow, Chairlady of the Cyberport Investors Network and Executive Director of Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, will also be highlighting start-up fundraising updates and plans for investor engagement while celebrating the third anniversary of the dedicated investment platform.

Global events extending frontier of tech venturing

This year, two spotlight events under CVCF will further enrich insights in the wider tech venturing space. To enhance support for start-ups and connections with the EdTech sector, CVCF is pleased to co-present the Edventures Global Business Acceleration Summit together with Esperanza, a start-up NGO founded by Mr John C Tsang to catalyse the development of Hong Kong as an EdTech innovation hub in the GBA. The event looks into the developments and trends of the EdTech market, which is one of the most promising markets under the new normal and a key sector of development within Cyberport’s smart living application cluster.

CVCF will also partner with international tech investment event, Silicon Dragon 2020, to bring in more international investors and start-ups, and explore more tech venturing dynamics, all whilst connecting capital, innovation, entrepreneurship, and growth.

Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport, said, "the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic to the economy have at the same time accelerated the digital transformation of enterprises and the wide adoption of various digital business models like online-to-offline, virtual events, work and learn from home. There is also an increasing demand in tech-assisted healthcare and other contactless lifestyle applications. All these translate to an unprecedented conducive business environment for our tech start-ups to grow and more than ever, a strong need for investors to leverage the Cyberport platform to identify quality companies with strong talents and promising business models. Cyberport remains committed to spring-boarding start-ups to success, and the Cyberport Venture Capital Forum (CVCF) is the key event for us to bridge investors with our tech community as well as the annual destination for our Cyberport Investor Network (CIN) to gather, share their views on the latest developments and exchange insights on coming trends. I look forward to another year of illuminating sharings by industry leaders and productive exchanges and matchings between the tech community and investors."

First month-long CVCF virtual experience live from 21 October

Starting from 21 October, CVCF will kick off its very first month-long virtual experience with conference and workshop content available 24/7 on its dedicated event platform. The Innovator showcase will feature virtual booths of tech solutions and allow investors and audience members to interact with the most enterprising innovators to explore collaborations. At the Founder Stage, short pitch videos will be streamed for promising start-ups across different fields to present their projects to investors and to gain exposure. These will also be available to view on demand on the event platform. Investor matching sessions will allow one-on-one investor meetings with start-ups based on tech sectors and investment appetite between late October to early November.

Extended international engagement to enrich pool and facilitate investment matching

To reach a wider global audience of investors and start-ups, this year is the first time CVCF is partnering with the Consulates General of Canada and Israel respectively, Macau Young Entrepreneur Innovation Centre, and leading co-working spaces in Hong Kong to bring in start-ups and investors.

The Edventures Global Business Acceleration Summit on the second event day will gather innovators, investors, educators and talent development professionals who are looking for solutions and opportunities in the education technology space. Renowned speakers of the event include Richard Culatta, CEO, International Society for Technology in Education, Kamran Elahian, Chairman and Founder of Global Innovation Catalyst and Matt Greenfield, Managing Partner of Rethink Education.

During the Summit, 10 finalists of the Edventures GBA Fellowship, a global competition to help growth stage EdTech start-ups expand internationally, will compete for the chance to connect with business matching and market expansion consultancies. The finalists from Hong Kong, Finland, Mainland China, the UK and the US, will be showcasing their ventures, ranging from early childhood education to lifelong learning solutions. Among them are two Cyberport community start-ups, Mandarin Matrix, which operates online Mandarin learning classrooms for K12, and Xccelerate, which provides enterprise training in skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These finalists together with EdTech start-ups at Cyberport will also exhibit at the concurrent Virtual Global Edventures Expo from 23 Oct – 22 Nov.

CVCF is a highly anticipated flagship tech venture event for investors and entrepreneurs in the digital technology domain. This year, to further enrich industry and market insights of the forum, a series of pre-event webinars have been held since July in anticipation of the main event to allow industry leaders to share their insights and fresh perspectives on smart investments and digital transformation, and to help enterprises pivot in the new normal. Featured programmes have been uploaded to the event’s platform.

DJI Unveils RS 2 & RSC 2 3-Axis Camera Gimbal – Smaller, Better

The DJI Ronin series has always been very highly acclaimed in the film-making community. The camera stabilising platform that is the DJI Ronin is actually more affordable that plenty of stabiliser platforms and somehow more advanced at the same time, allowing film makers flexibility and possibilities like never before. They introduced the DJi Ronin S and Ronin SC later to accomodate smaller budgets and lighter production gear. That proved to be popular too.

Source: DJI

The global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology has expanded their legacy of the popular DJI Ronin series, the newly introduced DJI RS2 and DJI RSC 2 to replace their popular Ronin S and Ronin SC camera stabilization systems. Like the hardware these stabilisers replace, the RS 2 and RSC 2 platforms oofer film makers and content creators an unimaginable versatility and robustness in a package that is easy to handle and transport. They are the Ronin S and Ronin SC re-imagined, improved.

DJI RS2

Source: DJI

The DJI RS 2 brings added power and agility to creators and using professional camera systems such as DSLR and compact cinema cameras. The successor to the Ronin S can work with payloads of up to 4.5kg. It can even carry all that weight for 12 hours and can be quickly charged via the battery handle, if need be. A 15-minute charge on the handle affords two hours of extra run-time.

The DJI RS 2 has something called a Titan Stabilization Algorithm. It is DJI’s magic software that allows the gimbal to smooth out kinks, optimise angles, and even tilt around to compensate its users movement. No other gimbal has that ability before. It is cleverer and better than before with SuperSmooth mode that can compensate and improve stability at up to 100mm of focal length (that is quite long, by the way).

It is more versatile than ever with a dual-layer mounting plate that is compatible with the world’s renown Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto platforms. There is even a fine-tune knob to better optimise the camera payload’s balance on the gimbal. The built-in 1.4-inch colour touchscreen can display all sorts of data from camera’s shoot data, gimbal modes, and even serve as a secondary display for the camera. Of course, the RS2 is compatible with multiple accessories from DJI to make it an even more robust and capable tool in your film making arsenal.

DJI RSC 2

Then there is the DJI RSC 2. The DJI RSC 2 is made to be even more portable than the DJI RS2. That means that it is smaller, and lighter than the RS 2. It weighs only 1.2kg and is able to take on a payload of 3kg in total. While that is a little less than the DJI RS 2, it also lasts about 12 hours. There is also quick charge built-into the handle itself. This gimbal is perfect for mirrorless cameras.

The new folding design makes DJI RSC 2 easier and more portable. It allows film-makers to bring the gimbal along everywhere without adding additional weight to the gear list. The main gimbal arm can be loosened to provide an unique shooting angle as well, so the DJI RSC 2 is also just as versatile as the DJI RS 2. It comes with all the same goodies the DJI RS 2 comes with too. There is the RavenEye technology, Titan Stabilisation algorithm, and even the dual-layer camera mounting plate.

Advanced Capabilities

Of course, DJI being DJI, the two gimbals come with support for multiple attachments. The accessories list includes a Focus Wheel, 3D Focus System, Cheese Plate and Twist Grip Handle, Thethered Control Handle, counterweight systems, and more. The vital features and functions on both the gimbal can be controlled and adjusted over distance of about 100m with the virtual joystick and Force Mobile, where the gimbal mimics the movement of your smartphone. The TOF sensors mounted in the camera enables the shooter to create a super smooth and cinematic footage using a manual lens.

Price and Availability

The DJI RS 2 and DJI RSC 2 will be available starting today at US$ 849 (MYR 3,299*) and US$ 499 (MYR 1,699*) as standalone units. For the Pro Combo that includes a phone holder, Focus Motor, RavenEye Image Transmitter, a dedicated carrying case, and more will set you back an extra US$ 150, totaling up to US$ 999 (MYR 3,899*) for the DJI RS 2. For the DJI RSC 2, the Pro Combo will set you back US$ 739 (MYR 2,549*), another US$ 240 on top of the device itself. The DJI RS2 and the DJI RSC 2 will be available for purchase at DJI Malaysia Flagship stores, authorised dealers and their official store on Lazada and Shopee. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Touchscreen Issues Reported

Samsung is no stranger to touchscreen issues with reports having surfaced for their past models including the Galaxy Note 9. But, after the lackluster performance of one of their biggest flagships with the S20 series, you’d think that they would have ironed out the issues when it comes to the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). The Galaxy S20 FE is Samsung’s effort in making their flagships more affordable and bringing the fight to devices such as the Pixel 5 and the OnePlus Nord.

While it seems like the new Galaxy S20 FE budget flagship might be Samsung’s magic pony, reports have surfaced that its well priced Full HD+, 120Hz screen has been a pain for some users. The reports highlight issues with the accuracy of the touch input on the touchscreen. The reports aren’t an isolated issue as they are now trending on Reddit and Samsung’s own Community forums.

Source: Samsung

In addition, users are also reporting issues with input lag, keyboard failure, poor input response and even jittery scrolling on the Galaxy S20 FE touchscreen. Some users are also reporting issues regarding the screen being overtly sensitive and registering taps as swipes. Guess what? Some of them have had to reboot the phone in order to get the touchscreen working again.

Considering the phone only went on sale recently, we can’t be sure that the issue isn’t a few isolated cases. However, issues like these will still irritate users. However, the prevalence of the issue is worrying with more reports surfacing since the initial reports. We can only hope that the issue isn’t one with the panel itself and Samsung rolls out a software patch to fix it soon. Samsung has yet to respond since the initial report.

The Razer Iskur is now Available for US$ 499 – Finally, the Green Snake Gaming Chair

Well known branding like Noble Chairs and Secret Lab released excellent gaming chairs for gamers out there. That said, gaming chairs are all the rage these days. Of course, one of the biggest gaming lifestyle giants, Razer would latch on to this trend. That’s right, Razer has finally unveiled their first gaming chair, the Iskur.

The Iskur is said to have a unique external lumbar support system whose 26-degree customization is meant to improve your posture while gaming or even working. The main focus is to alleviate the middle tension to achieve a neutral spine position to provide minimum burden for your spine. Important when you game for long hours, or when you are sitting down to get your work done all day long of course.

Source: Razer

The Iskur also comes with “4D” armrests, which offer a wide range of adjustment, and will support players up to 6.2′ and 136kg (299 lbs). It’s made from multi-layered synthetic leather and the rear back cushion is made from high density foam cushion. The Iskur’s jut-out-at-an-angle lumbar pad which look like a snake belly is quite one of the highlight of Razer signature. A memory foam head cushion is also included to keep you at the optimum posture.

Whichever way you look at it, the Razer Iskur does look very similar to the Secret Lab’s very own Omega and Titan. That may not necessarily be a bad thing though. The Secret Lab Omega and Titan are very highly acclaimed gaming chairs, regarded to be the best in the business. Razer denies that the Iskur is anything like the Secret Lab chairs though.

The Razer Iskur is now available for US$ 499 (approx. RM 2,071) through Razer’s official website. There are no mentions on whether or not the Razer Iskur will come to Malaysia. Here are some fingers crossed. For more information on the Razer Iskur you can head down to their website.
