PUBG MOBILE is getting a major seasonal overhaul with its new Version 4.1 Update. The update, available from now until January 5th, introduces the Frost Festival, a massive winter-themed event that brings a new AI companion, map changes, and significant updates to classic gameplay.
Welcome to Frosty Funland
The main attraction of this update is the “Frosty Funland” themed mode. This transforms Erangel, Livik, and Vikendi into winter wonderlands 5, centered around a new snow-covered metropolis called Penguinville.
The biggest new feature is the introduction of PUBG MOBILE’s first-ever AI Teammate, the Ninja Penguin, PowNin. This isn’t just a cosmetic pet; you can actively command PowNin using voice, text, or quick commands in English. The AI companion will assist in combat, wielding shuriken techniques and evasive ninja arts, and can even heal itself with “sardine snacks”. To traverse the new frosty areas, players can also use the new Penguin Snowmobile.
A new “Frosty Funland Themed Trial” challenges 4-player squads to collect and deliver party invites across the map while fending off rivals. There is also an in-game charity campaign: by interacting with penguin NPCs, players will contribute to a global milestone which, if met, will see PUBG MOBILE donate USD 100,000 to penguin conservation.
Classic Mode Gets a Strategic Overhaul
This update isn’t just about the festive theme; Classic Mode is receiving significant changes.
In preparation for the upcoming PMGC 2025, Erangel and Livik will feature a special PMGC Venue with photo spots that grant a “Champion Pack” of supplies. More importantly for core gameplay, Erangel gets a brand-new area called the “Boatyard”.
Firearms have also been adjusted for greater realism, including a gradual long-range damage drop-off for rifles, low ammo alerts, and enhanced combat sound effects.
A new “Loot Truck” system is also being introduced. This heavy truck spawns along looped routes and will drop supply crates based on the amount of damage players inflict on it, offering a new, dynamic strategic option for gearing up.
The update also ushers in the new Cycle 9 Season 27, along with updates to Metro Royale and the World of Wonder creation mode.
