Setting up a retail storefront usually involves a frustrating battle with clunky point-of-sale hardware. For years, accepting a simple card payment meant leasing a heavy, dedicated terminal from a bank or dealing with fragile Bluetooth card readers that always seem to disconnect at the worst possible moment. Fiuu is actively working to eliminate that friction in Malaysia. The digital payment network has officially launched Tap to Pay on iPhone for local merchants, effectively transforming standard Apple smartphones into fully capable contactless payment terminals.

This rollout fundamentally simplifies how businesses can accept money. By utilizing the Fiuu Virtual Terminal iOS application, merchants can now process in-person transactions directly on their iPhones. The system natively accepts all major forms of contactless payments, including standard credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and various other digital wallets. The most significant advantage for enterprises is the complete removal of external hardware requirements; there are no dongles to charge and no secondary terminals to pair.
From a technical standpoint, the barrier to entry is remarkably low. To start accepting payments, a merchant only needs an iPhone 11 or a newer model running the latest version of iOS. Once configured through the Fiuu Virtual Terminal app, the checkout process is completely frictionless. The cashier simply prompts the customer to hold their contactless card or smart device near the merchant’s iPhone, and the transaction is securely completed via standard near-field communication technology.
Naturally, tapping a credit card against a retail worker’s smartphone raises immediate privacy concerns. To address this, the system leans heavily on Apple’s built-in hardware security architecture. Apple explicitly does not store actual card numbers or transaction information on the device itself or on its cloud servers, ensuring that sensitive financial data is heavily protected and not left vulnerable on the merchant’s handset.
This Malaysian launch follows a highly successful rollout of the exact same technology by Fiuu in Singapore in December of last year. If the Fiuu name sounds slightly unfamiliar, the company is actually a massive architectural pillar of the Southeast Asian digital economy, having previously operated under the name Razer Merchant Services. They process billions in transaction volume across the region, and this latest mobile feature is already being deployed by notable local retailers. Brands including Allbirds Malaysia, Hedgren, Herschel Supply Co., Hydro Flask, and Kipling are currently leveraging the Tap to Pay on iPhone system to streamline their physical checkout experiences across multiple touchpoints.
Fiuu Chief Executive Officer Eng Sheng Guan noted that the future of commerce relies on seamlessly blending offline and online payment channels, giving businesses a true omnichannel solution that allows customers to pay without encountering technical hurdles. For local Malaysian businesses looking to modernize their retail footprint, the ability to spin up a fully functional, highly secure payment terminal in a matter of minutes—using hardware they likely already own in their pockets—is a massive operational upgrade.
