Building a home cinema used to mean running wires through your walls and meticulously placing half a dozen speakers around your living room. Today, the technology has evolved to deliver that same immersive experience with significantly less clutter. Operating under its new “Cinema is Coming Home” vision, Sony Malaysia has officially unveiled a massive expansion to its home entertainment portfolio. The newly announced lineup introduces the comprehensive BRAVIA Theatre audio range, designed to complement their latest mid-tier television seamlessly, the BRAVIA 3 II.
BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 and Bar 5
When it comes to upgrading your living room audio, the soundbar is usually the first step. Sony’s new flagship for this category is the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7. Despite maintaining a relatively compact footprint, this soundbar houses nine individual speaker units, which crucially include dedicated up-firing and side-firing drivers. By utilising Sony’s proprietary 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, the Bar 7 actively calibrates to your specific room, bouncing audio off the ceiling and walls to create a genuinely enveloping, cinema-style surround sound from a single piece of hardware. For movie purists, this model also natively supports IMAX Enhanced content.
For smaller spaces or those seeking a more streamlined setup, Sony also introduced the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5. This operates as a 3.1-channel system paired with a dedicated wireless subwoofer to ensure you do not lose out on deep, rumbling bass during action sequences. It utilises Sony’s Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround to simulate a three-dimensional audio space. Both the Bar 7 and Bar 5 are fully compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Furthermore, if you pair them with a compatible BRAVIA television, you gain access to Voice Zoom 3, a highly practical feature that actively isolates and enhances dialogue so you never miss whispered lines in a movie. All of these settings can be conveniently managed directly from your smartphone via the BRAVIA Connect application.
Pushing the Lows with BRAVIA Theatre Subwoofers and Rear Speakers
While a soundbar handles the heavy lifting, true cinematic audio requires dedicated bass and rear projection. To accommodate this, Sony has released the BRAVIA Theatre Sub 9 and Sub 8. The premium Sub 9 is a serious piece of acoustic engineering, featuring two 200mm driver units arranged in a dual opposing configuration. This specific design actively cancels out unwanted chassis vibrations while pushing ultra-low frequencies. The standard Sub 8 provides a solid alternative, utilising a single large 200mm driver to deliver deep bass extensions. Interestingly, for the first time in the BRAVIA Theatre series, the system officially supports dual subwoofer playback for those who want the absolute maximum impact.
To complete the physical surround setup, users can integrate the new BRAVIA Theatre Rear 9 speakers. These wireless satellites are equipped with an 80mm up-firing speaker that works in tandem with the soundbar to generate multiple phantom speakers around the room, finalising the 360-degree spatial audio illusion.
The BRAVIA 3 II Television
Audio is only half the cinema equation; you need a display capable of matching it. The newly announced BRAVIA 3 II is a mid-tier television designed specifically for those who want a massive screen, scaling all the way up to a staggering 100 inches. It is powered by the same XR Processor found in Sony’s premium flagship televisions, which works alongside the XR Triluminos Pro system to deliver rich, natural contrast and an incredibly wide colour gamut.
Under the hood, Sony has partnered directly with MediaTek to integrate a custom Smart TV System on a Chip. This hardware collaboration effectively reduces visual noise and ensures highly detailed image reproduction. It is also built with modern gamers in mind, fully supporting 4K resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate across four dedicated HDMI 2.1 ports. Additionally, Sony has completely redesigned the remote control. The new Inclusive Remote Control features distinct button shapes and clearer spacing for easier tactile navigation, alongside a genuinely helpful Remote Finder function that makes losing the clicker in your couch cushions a thing of the past.
Pricing & Availability
If you are looking to overhaul your home theatre setup, the rollout will happen in two stages. The entire audio suite, including the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7, Bar 5, Sub 9, Sub 8, and Rear 9, is officially slated to hit the Malaysian market in June 2026. The massive BRAVIA 3 II television will follow shortly after, becoming available in July 2026.
While Sony Malaysia has not yet released the official recommended retail pricing for these upcoming models, they are currently running an aggressive early-bird promotion. Customers who register their interest early through the official Sony portal will receive a RM500 Touch ‘n Go e-Wallet voucher, which can be claimed immediately upon purchasing the new television when it officially launches.
