Dyson has officially launched its latest foray into air purification in Malaysia, and this time, the engineering team has drawn inspiration from the aviation industry. The new Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact represents a distinct shift from the brand’s iconic loop amplifier design, utilising what they call HushJet technology to deliver powerful airflow in a significantly smaller footprint. It is a device clearly targeted at the urban dweller who needs clean air in a bedroom or home office but doesn’t have the floor space for a massive tower unit.
The headline feature here is the new HushJet Nozzle. While previous Dyson purifiers relied on the Air Multiplier technology we have all come to recognize, this new compact unit uses aerodynamic principles similar to those found in jet engines. The nozzle acts somewhat like a concentrator on a hairdryer, accelerating the air to create a focused, high-velocity stream. By entraining the surrounding air as the jet exits the nozzle, it amplifies the projection, ensuring that purified air reaches the far corners of the room despite the device’s diminutive stature.
Practicality is a major focus for this release, particularly regarding noise levels. Dyson engineers have designed a star-shaped entrainment nozzle that reduces turbulence, which is often the main culprit for that annoying whooshing sound fans make. Combined with a motor bucket design that attenuates sound waves from the high-speed compressor, the machine operates at just 24 dBA in night mode. For context, that is quieter than a library and roughly equivalent to soft whispers, making it an ideal companion for light sleepers who need air circulation without the acoustic clutter.
On the filtration front, Dyson is addressing one of the biggest pain points of owning an air purifier: filter replacements. The HushJet Purifier Compact features a new electrostatic filtration system that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. More importantly, this filter is engineered to last up to five years—a four-fold increase compared to previous iterations. This significantly reduces the long-term cost of ownership and the hassle of remembering to order replacements every six months. The system is also fully sealed, ensuring that the pollutants it traps actually stay inside the machine rather than leaking back out into your room.
Despite being small enough to sit on a bedside table or a desk, measuring just 45cm in height and weighing 3.5kg, it doesn’t lack smarts. The device integrates fully with the MyDyson App, allowing users to monitor air quality in real-time, create schedules, and control the unit remotely. It also supports voice control via Alexa and Google Home, meaning you can adjust the fan speed without ever lifting a finger. With a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 250m³/h, it is rated to effectively purify spaces up to 200 square feet, which covers most Malaysian bedrooms and study rooms comfortably.
