Laundry is one of those household chores that hasn’t fundamentally changed in decades. You throw clothes in, add soap, pick a setting that sounds vaguely correct, and hope for the best. Haier is looking to inject a bit more intelligence into that routine with its newly unveiled X Series washing machine lineup.
Launched today in Malaysia, the X Series—comprising the X5, X7, and the flagship X9—is clearly Haier’s play for the premium market. Beyond the sleek aesthetics, the real story here is how the company is using AI and new mechanical designs to solve two of the biggest laundry headaches: cycle time and fabric damage.
The “Brains”: AI Wash
We have seen “AI” stamped on everything from toasters to toothbrushes lately, but in a washing machine, it actually has a practical application. The X Series features what Haier calls AI Wash. Instead of you staring at the dial wondering if your mixed load of cottons and synthetics needs the “Delicate” or “Daily” cycle, the machine uses internal sensors to detect fabric types and the water absorption rate of the load. It then automatically adjusts the washing program, water level, and cycle duration. The benefit here isn’t just convenience; it is resource management. By tailoring the cycle to exactly what is in the drum, the machine avoids using excess water or running longer than necessary, which is a win for both your utility bill and the lifespan of your clothes.
The “Muscle”: Essence Wash and Speed
While the AI handles the thinking, the cleaning mechanics have also seen an upgrade. Haier has introduced Essence Wash technology in this series. In a traditional washer, detergent drops into the drum and slowly dissolves as the drum fills with water. Essence Wash changes this by using a premix and microbubble technology. It thoroughly dissolves the detergent before it hits your clothes, turning it into a high-density foam that is sprayed directly onto the fabrics.
This matters for two main reasons. First, it ensures deep penetration of the detergent into the fibres immediately, rather than waiting for the water to agitate it in. Second, it drastically cuts down wash times. Haier claims a full wash cycle on the X Series can be completed in just 39 minutes. That is roughly 37% faster than a standard cycle, a significant time-saver for busy households who need to get through multiple loads on a weekend.
Preventing the “Musty” Aftermath
We have all done it: you start a load of laundry, get distracted, and forget about it for five hours. Usually, this results in damp, musty-smelling clothes that need to be washed again. The X Series addresses this with a feature called Ultra Fresh Air. Following a wash cycle, the machine creates a dedicated airflow that dries the inner drum and circulates air through the laundry. This prevents the buildup of moisture that causes bad odours and helps reduce wrinkles. It effectively buys you time, keeping the load fresh until you actually remember to take it out.
Visually, Haier is moving away from the cluttered button-heavy control panels of the past. The X Series sports a “Color AI” full-touch interface. It is a flat, screen-based panel that uses a colour film design to make navigating settings intuitive. It looks futuristic, but more importantly, it is easier to wipe clean than a panel full of physical knobs and buttons.

The Haier X Series washing machines are available for pre-order in Malaysia starting today, with pricing starting from RM2,249.
