Sony has announced the Xperia 10 VII in Malaysia, a significant re-imagining of its mid-range 10 series smartphone. This new model blurs the line between mid-range and premium, adopting one of the most beloved features from its flagship siblings: a dedicated physical shutter button.
This, combined with a much larger main camera sensor, an impressive new software support promise, and a new processor, makes the 10 VII a very different beast from its predecessors.
The biggest story here is the new camera hardware. For the first time in this series, the phone includes a dedicated ‘shutter button’ on the side. This isn’t just for taking photos; a long-press will instantly launch the camera app, even from a locked screen, ensuring you don’t miss a shot. This new button is paired with a seriously upgraded camera system. While it’s still a dual-lens setup, it offers three versatile focal lengths: 16mm (ultra-wide), 24mm (wide), and 48mm (zoom).
The 24mm wide lens gets the most important upgrade: a new 1/1.56-inch sensor, which Sony claims is approximately 1.6 times larger than the one in the previous model. In practical terms, this is a huge deal. A larger sensor captures significantly more light, which should translate to much cleaner, brighter, and more detailed photos, especially in low-light scenes. The 16mm ultra-wide lens is backed by a 1/3-inch sensor.
The Xperia 10 VII is also future-proofed to a degree rarely seen in the mid-range. Sony is committing to an incredible six years of security updates and four major OS version upgrades. This is a massive plus for long-term value. This longevity is supported by a battery that Sony claims will last for approximately two days on a single charge. The phone also features adaptive charging technology, designed to prevent battery degradation and maintain battery health even after four years of use. Under the hood, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset.
The Xperia 10 VII is also infused with Google’s latest AI tools. It comes with Circle to Search for quick, on-screen searching, and Google Gemini is integrated as an AI assistant, which can be instantly accessed by long-pressing the power button.
The entertainment experience has been refined. The display has an expanded, new 19.5:9 aspect ratio and supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This is paired with newly designed front-facing speakers that promise richer, deeper sound with enhanced bass and less cabinet vibration.
The phone’s design has been revamped to be sleek and lightweight at just 168g. The back features a new camera layout and a smooth, matte-textured coating. For durability, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Sony Xperia 10 VII is available now in Malaysia. It is priced at a suggested retail price of RM2,199 and is available in three colours: White, Turquoise, and Charcoal Black. A new matching Style Cover is also available, sold separately.
