If you were hoping for a glimpse of the next 3D Mario or a release date for Metroid Prime 4 (yes, we are still waiting), put those hopes back in the drawer. The February 2026 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase was strictly business—specifically, third-party business. But for the first time since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched last June, we are seeing what this hardware is actually capable of when developers stop dipping their toes and start diving in.
This wasn’t just a sizzle reel of indie titles; it was a statement of intent. The Switch 2 is getting the kind of “impossible ports” that we used to laugh about during the Tegra X1 era, alongside some genuine exclusives that make the console feel like more than just a dedicated Nintendo machine.
The Heavy Hitters: Cloud Gaming Is Officially Dead
The biggest takeaway from this showcase is that the “Cloud Version” era is over. We finally have native ports of massive, current-gen titles running on handheld hardware.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is officially coming to Switch 2 on 3 June 2026. Seeing Cloud Strife’s open-world adventure running natively on a portable screen is a technical marvel. While we expect some resolution scaling, the footage shown was surprisingly crisp, suggesting that the Switch 2’s DLSS-like upscaling tech is doing some heavy lifting.
Bethesda also showed up in force. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is whipping its way onto the platform on 12 May 2026, followed by Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition on 24 February 2026. While Fallout 4 is an older title, having the full “Anniversary” package with mod support on a handheld is a massive value add. And for the old-school RPG fans, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was teased for a late 2026 release, promising to fix those potato faces we all remember from 2006.
Capcom’s Horror Show
Capcom continues to be Nintendo’s best friend. The headline grabber here was Resident Evil Requiem, a brand-new entry in the survival horror series that seems to focus heavily on stealth. It is launching on 27 February 2026, just weeks away.
The interesting detail here isn’t just the game, but the hardware tie-in. Capcom and Nintendo are releasing a limited-edition Switch 2 Pro Controller themed around the game. If you have been looking for an excuse to replace your drifting joy-cons, this might be it.
New Exclusives and Indie Darlings
It wasn’t all ports. We got a look at Tokyo Scramble, a Switch 2 exclusive dropping on 11 February 2026. The premise is wild: an underground survival horror game where you are trapped in a subterranean Tokyo filled with dinosaur-like creatures called “Zinos.” It looks tense, claustrophobic, and weirdly distinct from the usual zombie fare.
On the lighter side, Orbitals looks like the co-op hit of the summer. Coming in Summer 2026, this sci-fi adventure has a distinct 90s anime aesthetic—think Gundam Wing meets It Takes Two. It is strictly a two-player affair, so you might want to start looking for a player two now.
For the survivalists, Valheim is finally making the jump. The Viking survival sim that took PC gaming by storm is coming to Switch 2 later this year, with support for up to 10 players. Given how CPU-intensive the building mechanics can get, this will be a real stress test for the Switch 2’s processor.
Retro Done Right: Console Archives
Nintendo finally addressed the Virtual Console-shaped hole in our hearts with the announcement of Console Archives. This appears to be a new service (or perhaps an evolution of NSO) dedicated to preserving third-party classics.
The service launched today with Cool Boarders and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. It is a small start, but the promise of a curated library of third-party hits is a lot more appealing than the trickle-feed of ROMs we have gotten used to.
Speaking of updates, Hollow Knight owners are getting a treat. A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition update is available now. It is a free upgrade for existing owners, boosting the resolution and frame rate. It is not Silksong, but it will have to do.
