The way we experience games is changing. For years, the default for serious competitive gaming has been the headset. It’s the obvious choice for spatial awareness, keeping your teammates’ voices isolated and your focus locked on the screen. But there is an undeniable strain that comes with wearing a headset for four or five hours at a time, not to mention the sense of isolation it creates. Republic of Gamers (ROG) is introducing the ROG Gjallar gaming soundbar to help deal with this pain while giving gamers better, more immersive audio. It’s promising to bring the cinematic, 3D soundstage of a high-end home theatre setup to the compact, crowded footprint of a PC gaming desk.
The Gjallar Soundbar: Acoustic Immersion in a Compact Form
The core of the Gjallar is a 2.1.2 Dolby Atmos surround sound system. When you break that down, it’s a sophisticated array that includes left and right full-range speakers paired with dedicated tweeters. What adds the “point two” (.2) to that configuration is the inclusion of up-firing channels. These are crucial because they bounce audio off your ceiling to create a sense of height. In modern games like Valorant, Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, verticality—hearing footsteps above you in an office building or the overhead pass of an aircraft—is often the difference between a tactical win and a loss.

What we appreciate here is that ROG hasn’t tried to make the soundbar oversized. It remains compact enough to sit neatly beneath most monitors, keeping your setup clean. Despite its small profile, the hardware is tuned to extract detail that small, integrated monitor speakers simply cannot touch. By creating a realistic 3D soundstage, the Gjallar enables players to pinpoint enemy locations with a level of precision that feels natural rather than forced.
Wireless Subwoofer for Deep Bass
A soundbar is only as good as its low-end performance, and to handle the heavy lifting, ROG includes a 6.5-inch wireless subwoofer. It delivers 65 watts of power, which is plenty to give explosions, engine roars, and cinematic scores the impact they deserve.

The new Gjallar sound bar comes with 5GHz wireless connectivity. The feature gives you the flexibility of being able to move the subwoofer off the desk and freeing it from a physical tether. Effectively giving you the immense flexibility of placing it wherever you please. You can tuck the subwoofer in a corner or under the desk, clearing up legroom without sacrificing the deep, visceral bass that ties the entire immersive experience together. Because it uses 5GHz, the connection remains reliable and low-latency, ensuring the audio does not feel disconnected from the action happening on your screen.
The Control Hub: Sound Controls At Your Fingertips
Perhaps the most thoughtful aspect of the Gjallar isn’t actually the audio—it’s the command interface. ROG has bundled this system with a multi-function control hub. This is a brilliant addition for any gamer who hates Alt-Tabbing out of a game just to adjust a volume slider or tweak an equaliser. The hub features an LCD display that puts command over your EQ profiles, input sources, and RGB lighting right at your fingertips.

More importantly, this hub addresses a common pain point: microphone quality. The built-in Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) microphones are designed to isolate your voice while stripping away the background noise, such as the constant hum of a high-performance PC cooling fan. By using an AI beamforming algorithm, the microphones focus purely on your voice, ensuring that your communication with teammates remains crystal clear without the need for an additional boom arm or desktop microphone cluttering your desk.
Versatile Connectivity and Gear Link
Modern gaming setups are rarely just a PC anymore. We are often juggling consoles, laptops, and mobile devices, and the Gjallar respects this reality. With a suite of inputs including USB-C, HDMI 2.1, optical, and AUX, plus Bluetooth 5.3, you can switch between a gaming console, a work laptop, and your smartphone without manually unplugging cables. The inclusion of an HDMI 2.1 eARC port is particularly welcome, as it supports 4K at 120Hz pass-through. This means you can run your high-refresh-rate console or PC gaming experience through the soundbar to your monitor without losing a single frame of resolution or speed.
Furthermore, the right side of the soundbar houses a built-in USB hub. This is a practical, utilitarian feature that turns the audio system into a docking station for your wireless dongles, external storage, or other small peripherals. To manage everything, the Gear Link web tool or mobile app provides a clean, easy-to-use interface to customise your sound profiles, microphone settings, and the Aura RGB lighting, which can sync with the rest of your ROG ecosystem.
