When a smartphone manufacturer uses words like “Titan Tough” and “Armored Architecture,” they are effectively issuing a challenge. When Xiaomi handed us the new Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G, they claimed it was their most durable midrange flagship ever. They pointed to the spec sheet: Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a shock-absorbing internal structure, and a massive IP69K rating.
Naturally, we took that as an invitation to try and destroy it.
In our latest video, we didn’t want to do the standard “waist-height drop test” onto a carpet. That doesn’t represent real life, and quite frankly, it’s boring. Instead, we designed a custom “TechENT Torture Chamber” to see if this phone could actually survive the chaos of daily Malaysian life—and then some.
The Gauntlet
We broke the stress test down into four escalating phases:
- The “Reverse” Drop Test: We didn’t just drop the phone; we dropped heavy objects on the phone. We wanted to test that Gorilla Glass Victus 2 against impact from odd angles.
- The 10kg Bend Test: Midrange phones often snap in half under pressure. We applied 10kg of direct weight to the center of the device to see if the frame would buckle or if the 6.83-inch AMOLED display would pop out.
- The Boiling Point: This is the big one. The phone carries an IP69K rating, which technically protects against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. But does that apply to submersion? We dropped the phone into a pot of 100°C boiling water to see if the seals could hold up against extreme heat.
Brains Inside the Brawn
While we were busy trying to wreck the exterior, it’s worth remembering what’s inside. This device is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and relies on a massive 6500mAh Silicon-Carbon battery. If the physical damage doesn’t kill it, the heat from the boiling water test could easily trigger a thermal shutdown or battery failure.
