Dell’s XPS Line-Up Refreshed with Focus on AI

Dell’s XPS lineup has been at the forefront of the company’s portfolio for the better part of two decades. The line has always been about pushing boundaries when it comes to performance, work and design. This year is no different, the XPS lineup continues its legacy as one of the best laptops that Dell has to offer.

XPS Expanded and Better than Ever

The new Dell XPS line is expanded. Where we had the XPS and XPS 15, there are now 3 entries: the XPS 13, XPS 14 and the XPS 16. Each laptop takes Dell’s thin and light flagship and caters it to different needs. However, they do share a similar design – one that Dell debuted with the XPS 13 Plus. The sleek design consists of tone-on-tone colours and CNC-machined aluminium. The biggest change is the inclusion of touch-enabled function buttons which line the top of the haptic trackpad. These buttons seamlessly switch between media and function keys when needed. The keyboard on the laptops is also larger with larger keycaps for a more coherent and comfortable typing experience.

The XPS lineup continues to feature the InfinityEdge panels with options for OLED touch, variable refresh rate and high resolution. This year brings improvements to the audio experience with a new quad speaker design that supports Dolby Atmos, and 3D stereo surround from MaxxAudio Pro by Waves. The XPS lineup will also feature a 1080p FHD webcam.

New Intel Processors with a Focus on Bringing AI Mainstream

The New XPS lineup will be coming fully equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. These processors features an additional NPU (neural processing unit) that Dell is leveraging to bring impactful AI-powered features to its XPS line up. That isn’t the only thing that’s changing with the NPU; these laptops will be able to leverage the NPU to speed up features that rely on AI. This also frees up CPU and GPU resources which can be better mobilised to undertake non-AI focused tasks.

In addition, the XPS line up will be coming with configurations supporting the Intel Core Ultra 7 on the Dell XPS 13 and XPS 14. While the XPS 16 supports configurations with up to the Intel Core Ultra 9. These configurations are supplemented with up to 64GB of RAM across the board and up to 4TB of PCIe 4 SSD memory. This combination alone should give you enough performance on the go for most tasks.

The XPS 14 and XPS 16, however, come with NVIDIA’s RTX Studio certification. The XPS 14 comes with a configuration supporting the NVIDIA RTX 4050. On the other hand, the XPS 16 continues to be the powerhouse of the line up with configurations supporting the RTX 4060 and RTX 4080 as well as the RTX 4050. These laptops come with support for NVIDIA’s Studio drivers out of the box and are primed for content creation on the go. They can even handle 3D rendering when you’re out and about.

Specc’d to Kill

The XPS series continues its legacy of being a top performer with more than just processors though. The line up comes with a bevvy of displays including high resolution touch displays. The XPS 13 caps out at a 3K OLED touch display while the XPS 14 pushes the boundaries a little bit more with a 3.2K OLED touch display. The XPS 16, on the other hand, caps out at a 4K OLED touch display.

Of course, connectivity on the go is important for the XPS line up. Dell has decided to leverage WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 on the XPS 13 and XPS 16 while the XPS 14 has WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Pricing & Availability

The XPS lineup will be available starting in Q1 2024. Malaysia, in particular, will see the laptops in stores starting end of February 2024.

Dell Announces the XPS 13 2-in-1 – It is as Flexible as it Gets

Dell’s XPS series of thin-and-light devices are quite legendary in its own market segment. The XPS series is known for their superb build quality with all-metal construction with an ultra-thin design like no other. They are not known to be the lightest devices in the market, but the all-metal body does add to some weight. It is not just premium build though, the XPS series also sets themselves apart to be a sort of benchmark in the world of thin-and-light PCs.

Dell just announced their latest XPS device, the XPS 13 2-in-1. Yes, it bears the same name as the XPS 13 2-in-1 from 2021 as well. It is a follow up model, in all fairness. It is a Microsoft Surface like tablet/PC.

Of course, as an updated model, it bears Intel’s 12th generation Core processors. You can spec it up with up to a Core i7-1250U that comes with two performance cores and eight efficiency cores totaling up to ten cores within the chip. That processor is also paired with up to 16GB in LPDDR4x (on board) RAM to ensure that multitasking is smooth and snappy. There are no discrete GPU to be found here, just a humble but still powerful Intel Iris Xe Graphics keeping everything that has to do with graphics processing in check.

The powerful chipset allows Dell to include a 13-inch 3K display with 3:2 aspect ratio. Of course, because your primary interaction with the device would be through touch, it is a touch sensitive display. The display also pushes DisplayHDR 400 at 500 nits’ peak brightness. It boasts up to 100% sRGB colour gamut coverage and up to 1800:1 contrast ratio. The Gorilla Glass Victus protected display should be more than enough for you to be immersed in your movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video with Dolby Vision support.

To ensure that you have all the storage you need for work and play (not many games, we would assume), you get up to 1TB in SSD storage. To keep you entertained and your movies immersive, you get Waves MaxxAudio Pro and Waves Nx 3D audio tuning on your speakers. Of course, because this is a device for productivity, it packs two microphone arrays to ensure that your voice is crystal clear in video and tele conferences. On top of that, you get a Full HD 1080p front facing camera that is capable of taking 5-Megapixel photos. At the back is a 11-Megapixel camera that is capable of taking up to 4K resolution videos.

When you are in a call, you want a stable and fast network. Intel’s Killer WiFi with WiFi 6E support should ensure that your internet connection is ever stable for those long online conferences. If you prefer to use Wireless headphones, there is Bluetooth 5.2 connection available too.

While it is sort of a tablet, it is still a versatile PC too. It has two Thunderbolt 4 enabled USB Type-C ports that also supports display output and power delivery. Included in the box is a USB Type-C to USB Type-A adapter, if you need to plug your external storage in. There is also a USB Type-C to 3.5mm AUX adapter, if you want to plug your headphones in. Within the device is a large 49.5WHs battery to ensure that you can work from anywhere through the day.

Dell’s XPS 13 Line Up Gets an 11th Generation Intel Power Up

Dell’s XPS line up has been the epitome of design prowess when it comes to thin and light laptops as well as 2-in-1s. The XPS 13 holds Dell’s crown in the space with feature sets tailored to people who want to be productive on the go while having a machine that is also durable and stylish. The XPS 13 was one of the first compact laptops to set the trend and has been championing the premium market space when it comes to thin and lights.

With Intel’s recent announcement of their new 11th generation processors, it comes as no surprise that the laptops are being refreshed with the latest and greatest; bringing better performance and battery life to Dell’s most popular laptops. The XPS 13 and 13 2-in-1 now boast upwards of 9 hours battery life with the XPS 13 getting as much as 19 hours.

The new Dell XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 maintain the lineup’s petite form factor while packing more processing power in the body. Both have offerings ranging from the new dual core Intel Core i3-1115G4 to the quad core Intel Core i7-1165G7 processors which pack a punch while sipping on battery power. The XPS 13 comes with an additional option for the more powerful Intel Core i7-1185G7. This is complemented with up to 32GB of on board RAM and up to 2TB of SSD memory for quick read and write on the XPS 13 while the 2-in-1 will only have a max of 1TB. The SSD should also allow you to boot into Windows within 10 seconds. Of course, being powered by the 11th Generation Intel processors, the laptops also come with the option for Intel’s new Xe graphics platform. The new graphics platform is touted to give even better graphical performance compared to last generation’s Intel UHD. If the Xe isn’t your flavour, you’ll still be able to get options with Intel UHD graphics.

Both the new XPS 13 and 13 2-in-1 come with Dell’s InfinityEdge displays with options for 4K UHD+ and FHD+ resolutions. Both have options for Touch Displays. The displays come with 500-nit brightness and cover 100% of the sRGB colour gamut for better colour reproduction and are Dolby Vision certified. They also come with EyeSafe technology which reduces the blue light emitted by the panels to ensure that your eyes aren’t strained and your circadian rhythm is maintained.

Of course, the XPS 13 and 13 2-in-1 maintain their CNC machined aluminum body for extra rigidity and durability. They also have stereo speakers tuned by Waves MaxxAudio Pro and maintain their 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptops also come with Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 modems which allow for more stable connectivity on the new Wi-Fi 6 standard (802.11ax) and support for Bluetooth 5.1. As always, the Dell XPS 13 and 13 2-in-1 come with 2 USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support and a microSD card reader.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 comes with a few extra perks. It has support for the Dell’s Active Pen which allows you to write on the laptop. The 13 2-in-1 also comes with support for the various different modes enabled by its hinge. It can be used in tablet mode with touch or stylus interactions or as a presentation display.
