Samsung’s New Streamlined Galaxy Watch5 series Brings Advanced Sensors &Tracking

Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch5 series is a fresh new approach to how the company looks to differentiate its wearables. The lineup was once more geared towards being a middle point for technology buffs, fashionistas and fitness enthusiasts, now Samsung is redefining its outlook with the Galaxy Watch5. This year’s offering comes with two variants (so far): the Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 003

Both smartwatches are geared toward people looking to make sense and keep track of their health. Samsung has equipped the smartwatches with an updated BioActive sensor. Like its predecessor, the BioActive Sensor continues to come with a dedicated chip and the Optical Heart Rate and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis sensors. However, on the new Watch5 series, the sensor has an increased surface area with more direct contact with the user’s wrist. Thanks to this, you’ll be able to track your blood oxygenation, heart rate and even stress levels more accurately.

Together with improved measurements, users of the new Galaxy Watch5 series will also be able to more insights with the new Body Composition measurement tool. This tool takes a snapshot of the users’ health by breaking down the percentage of body weight which is your bones, fat and, of course, muscle mass. Using this information, Samsung’s Health app will then be able to recommend and tailor personalised workouts as well as track their progress towards their goals.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 004

Like the Galaxy Watches before, the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro will both be able to track sleep. Additionally, they will be able to use the information from tracking and provide Sleep Scores and Profiles. This information can then be used to help users get more rested sleep. These Sleep Profiles will also be able to tie in with Samsung’s SmartThings platform and intelligently adjust and optimise your environment for better sleep. The new smartwatches also come with enhanced fall detection which notifies an emergency contact should the wearer stumble and fall.

The Galaxy Watch5 series comes with the new Exynos W920 dual-core processor which is clocked at 1.18 GHz. It also has 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. In addition to the BioActive Sensor, the smartwatches come equipped with an accelerometer, barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor and Light Sensor. The series is also rated with MIL-STD-810H durability and IP68 water and dust resistance.

Differentiating Enthusiasts & Pros

With all the similarities out of the way, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro differentiate their users with one key feature: GPX. This feature allows you to plot your runs or routes for your workout. You will be able to download routes from your forums or share them with your friends. The maps can be uploaded directly from your phone or computer onto the Galaxy Watch5 Pro.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 006

In addition, the Watch5 Pro comes with enhanced durability thanks to Sapphire Crystal and its durable titanium casing compared to the Armor Aluminium of the Watch5. Even its protruded bezel is designed to be more rugged and protect the display of the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro also comes with a more sporty D-Buckle Sport Band out of the box.

Samsung’s New Galaxy Z Flip4 Launches with BESPOKE Customization

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is arguably the most popular foldable smartphone series to date. With the introduction of the Z Flip3 last year, the smartphone saw an increased adoption worldwide. Even in Malaysia, the foldable has found its space in the hands of users.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 007

The Galaxy Z Flip4 builds on the successes of the Flip3; making smaller, minute changes to optimise durability and use features. The smartphone has a smaller footprint thanks mostly to its slimmer hinge and bezels. Aside from that, it would seem like the smartphone is the exact same device from last year. However, the smaller bezels and hinge contribute to a better in-hand feel and a more immersive user experience.

Flagship Class Specifications

This year’s Z Flip4 also comes with a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. Like previous entries into the Z Flip series, the Z Flip 4 will not be supporting additional memory with a microSD card.

When it comes to displays, the smartphone comes with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate. The Infinity Flex Display comes with an FHD+ resolution of 2640×1080 pixels in a 22:9 aspect ratio. On the front cover, the display is a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED Display with a 260×512 pixel display.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 022

On the camera front, the Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with a dual camera setup for its main shooter. This comes with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera for its main sensor. This sensor has an f/1.8 aperture, 83˚ field of view and a 1.8μm pixel size. It is also equipped with Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. This is complemented by a 12-megapixel Ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, 123˚ field of view and a 1.8μm pixel size. On the front is a 10-megapixel Selfie camera with an f2.4, 1.22μm pixel size and an 80˚ field of view.

The smartphone runs on a 3,700mAh battery which supports 25W super fast charging. Samsung is touting a 50% charge in 30 minutes. It also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless Power Share. Similar to the Galaxy Z Fold4, the Z Flip4 comes with IPX8 water and dust resistance and has Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection.

Software and Features That Up the Ante

Of course, when it comes to the Z Flip4, it cannot only be about the specifications. Samsung has baked in a whole lot of features into the software this time around. Many of these features made their debut with the Galaxy S22 series and continue to be included in the Z Flip4’s OneUI 4.1.1.

Samsung Unpacked August 2022 009

One such feature is Nightography. The feature, powered by Galaxy AI brings a whole new meaning to night photography on Samsung devices. It allows stunning photos to be taken in dark, low-light situations. Galaxy AI takes multiple exposures and composites them into a stunning final image.

Together with that hallmark camera feature, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is also introducing FlexCam. FlexCam allows users to use the camera in multiple different orientations and angles thanks to the hinge of the Z Flip4. In addition, users are also able to hold the smartphone like a handicam for better angles and control while shooting. It also allows you to take photos and videos hands-free.

Personalise Your Own BESPOKE Edition Galaxy Z Flip4

After what looks to be a successful staged introduction of their BESPOKE edition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 will launch with BESPOKE customisation in select countries. For the first time, it will be available in Malaysia as well.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 BESPOKE Edition will offer custom designs of the smartphone. Users will be able to choose from a selection of glass backs, fronts and frame options. Users will be able to choose from Black, Silver, or Gold frames and Yellow, White, Navy, Khaki or Red face and back plates depending on your region. There are a total of 75 combinations available for the BESPOKE Edition.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Series Rumour Round-Up

With Samsung’s big Galaxy Unpacked event happening on August 10, we thought it’d be a good time to round up all the rumours behind the devices poised to make their global debut at the event. We’ve already covered all the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 rumours. There’s still one show stopper coming at the event – the Galaxy Watch 5 series.

Better Specs, Maybe a new Sensor

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series was its first outing running OneUI Watch on top of Google’s Wear OS. Even with new software, the company managed to introduce new features and up the ante when it comes to their wearables. It’s going to be an interesting year for the Watch series with Samsung delving deeper into health metrics and applying them to the medical field. In fact, rumours are rife with Samsung bolstering the Watch5 series with an additional body temperature sensor for better tracking of sleep and perhaps other metrics.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series will seemingly come with Samsung’s own Exynos W920 processor. The processor was announced last year and specifically built for wearable tech like the Galaxy Watch series. It looks like the series will be consisting of two entries – The Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. If you’re wondering where’s the classic? It seems like Samsung will be doing away with the navigator design of the classic for the new Pro.

Minor Design Tweaks with 50 Hours battery

The Watch5 Pro comes with a few design changes – the most obvious being a raised circular bezel. Apparently, this will be where Samsung’s digital rotating bezel feature gets slightly more tactile. In addition, the Pro will also be made of more premium materials including Sapphire Glass and titanium.

Aside from these differences, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro will have similar designs. Samsung’s new design language gives the Galaxy Watch a more sporty and edgy look. The bands are now meeting the body of the Watch and becoming a contiguous fluid structure. It looks like Samsung has also redesigned the straps opting for a design with a clasp or magnet instead of the usual pin and holes we’re used to seeing.

The regular Galaxy Watch5 seems to be continuing the tradition of having two sizes: a 44mm and a 40mm version. These versions will come with different-sized AMOLED displays. The smaller 40mm version is tipped to be coming with a 1.19-inch display while the 44-inch one is tipped for a 1.36-inch display. In addition, it looks like we can expect better battery life with the increased battery size of the Watch5 series. The smaller version is rumoured to come with a 284mAh battery while the larger 44mm version will come with a 410mAh battery. That said, both are expected to deliver about 50 hours of usage on a single charge. It is also rumoured to come with a 10W fast charger in the box.

Rumoured Pricing

According to the leaks, it looks like the Galaxy Watch5 series will be priced at a lower price point than its predecessor. The Watch5 40mm (Bluetooth Only) is rumoured to be retailing at €259 (MYR1,177.13) while the 44mm version will be priced at €286 (MYR1,299.77). The Pro on the other hand will be retailing at €430 (MYR1,954.21) for the 45mm Bluetooth-only option.

Samsung’s Offering MYR200 off Your Purchase of the Galaxy Z series

Samsung’s next Unpacked event is around the corner. The company is looking poised to reveal a whole new slate of devices that will be pushing their Galaxy Ecosystem forward. It looks like there will be three hero devices: the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Galaxy Watch 5 that will be gracing the event.

We’ve recapped all the details we know to date in our rumour round-up articles. The Fold4 looks to be leading the pack with S-Pen compatibility, a larger screen and more user-friendly dimensions. The new foldable also looks to be packing a few firsts for the company and aesthetic changes that will undoubtedly make it a winner for Samsung’s new generation of foldable.

Galaxy Unpacked August 2022

Together with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung will also be introducing its follow-up to the popular Z Flip 3 – the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The new Flip 4 looks to be coming with some tech updates. More importantly, the smartphone’s aesthetics are getting a minor update which will bring even more functionality. In addition, we’re looking to see where Samsung takes their BESPOKE edition this year. Last year’s introduction saw an unprecedented level of self-expression and customizability.

The Galaxy ecosystem wouldn’t be complete without a device focused on health. That’s wear where the new Galaxy Watch 5 fits in. The previous Galaxy Watch 4 saw Samsung adopt Google’s Wear OS as its OneUI Watch. This time, we’re excited to see where Samsung takes the Watch’s functionality and how it adapts Wear OS even further.

The next Galaxy is coming soon KV

That aside, it looks like Samsung is getting things ready for a big bang. In addition to teasing like there’s no tomorrow, they’re also touting a whole new level of self-expression. That comes in addition to the MYR200 e-voucher they are offering to those who sign up at their Unpacked website for the latest info. This voucher can be used for the pre-order after the Unpacked Event.

Since you’re reading this, it’s no surprise that you’re excited to catch the action first-hand. Well, you can watch the Unpacked Event on August 10, 2022, at 9 pm (Malaysian Time) at:

Fresh Off the Unpacked 2022 Boat, and On to Another – Samsung is Back for MWC 2022

Our memory is still fresh with Samsung’s Galaxy S22 launch earlier this month. If you have been living under a shell; yes, it is the year 2022 and Samsung has launched their latest sequel to one of the most successful line-ups of Android devices in the world. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is here and will come to your doorways on the 3rd of March 2022.

It does not seem like Samsung is done launching devices though. They have just announced that they will be making another appearance alongside MWC 2022. On the 27th of February 2022, Samsung is making another round of announcements and inevitably launch a few products. The public invite on their website says that the event will be streamed LIVE on their YouTube channel at 7.00 p.m. CET (2.00 a.m. 28th of February 2022 Malaysia Time). They have also released some graphics with the date announcement and said that the graphics will be representative of what they are launching in late February.

We eyed a smartphone, tablet, the S Pen, a wearable, the Z Fold and Z Flip, and a laptop. Considering Samsung just launched their new smartphone and tablet, we doubt they will be releasing anymore of those anytime soon. In that case we probably can expect Samsung to launch a new wearable maybe, or a new notebook PC in that case.

There is also a small chance that Samsung might announce the inclusion of their smartphones and wearables in their Bespoke program. In that case, you might be able to buy a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 in a very special colour of your own for example. Then again, this is all speculations.

We could all be wrong, and Samsung might just launch a whole new line-up of smarthome products. This is MWC though, so we think that is highly improbably too. Samsung is being a little vague on this event.

Whatever it is, we will only find out in their second major announcement of the year in their MWC 2022 event. Again, you can watch their announcement on their YouTube channel on the 27th of February 2022 at 7.00 p.m CET (28th of February 2022 at 2.00 a.m. Kuala Lumpur time). If you want to know more about this event, you can head over to their website.
