OnePlus 12 & OnePlus 12R Make Their Global Debut on January 23, 2024

The OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R flagship devices are set to debut really soon. The global launch is scheduled for January 23, 2024. The new launch isn’t just a launch for OnePlus though, it marks the tenth anniversary of the brand.

Over the past decade, OnePlus has evolved from a daring idea into a globally recognized technology powerhouse. Today, the brand boasts a presence in over 50 markets and a community exceeding 50.2 million users. The end of October 2023 witnessed an impressive 59% growth in global sales year on year.

OnePlus Launch Event January 2024

To celebrate the huge milestone, celebrations are kicking off ahead of the OnePlus 12 and 12R launch. The kick-off starts with a video from the creators of OnePlus. However, celebrations will peak with the unveiling of the OnePlus 12 Series.

Announced earlier this month, the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R are set to recapture the brand’s “Never Settle” ethos by offering a user-centric choice-driven approach. The OnePlus 12 boasts the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, a 4th Gen Hasselblad Camera for Mobile featuring a groundbreaking 64-megapixel 3x periscope lens, and its signature Flowy Emerald colourway for next year.

10 Years of Never Settle

The OnePlus 12R is set to raise the bar even further. The R line has upped the ante in India and China as the performance flagship phone. It’s now ready for the global stage. Both flagship phones are slated to debut at the OnePlus Smooth Beyond Belief Launch Event at 7:30 pm IST or 10 pm Malaysian time on January 23, 2024.

The OnePlus 12 is Official & It’s Specc’d to Kill

OnePlus is looking to set itself apart again with its once signature “Flagship Killer” moniker. The company’s latest flagship – the OnePlus 12 – looks to be the flagship everyone has been looking for from the company. The new flagship is being heralded as the “culmination of OnePlus over the past decade”. This flagship is OnePlus flexing its muscles, showcasing a fusion of innovation and a relentless pursuit of user satisfaction.

Timeless Design

Design-wise, OnePlus is playing the luxury card. Inspired by high-end watches, the OnePlus 12 is like a timepiece on steroids. It’s got a Flowy Emerald colour that sounds like poetry but looks damn good. According to OnePlus, it’s a nod to nature, with a design that screams sophistication.

OP12 2

That said, the design seems a little more iterative than we’re used to from OnePlus. It does, for all purposes, look like its predecessor, the OnePlus 11. That said, it looks like OnePlus did spend more time on the insides this year.

Specc’d To Kill

The OnePlus 12 isn’t messing around. It’s armed to the teeth with the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. It promises speeds that’ll make your head spin. The CPU is 30% faster, the GPU is 25% zippier, and it’s somehow saving you power while doing all this. It’s even got a display that’ll make your eyes pop, a battery that’s playing the long game, and a cooling system that says, “Bring it on.”

OP12 KA

The display of the OnePlus 12 is literally going to make your eyes pop! The new 2K Super Fluid AMOLED display has a peak brightness of 4,500 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s more than 2x the peak brightness of any of the current flagships. It’s not just all about the screen and processor either, the flagship comes with a maximum of 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal memory. When we say specced to kill, we mean it. It’s got LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 memory. That’s speedy, to say the least. Together with RAM-Vitalization and ROM-Vitalization we first saw in the OnePlus 11.

It comes with a large 5,400mAh dual-cell battery. Charging shouldn’t be much of an issue with support for 100W SuperVOOC charging as well as 50W AirVOOC Charging. It also comes with the Dual Cryo-structure design that was shown off in concept earlier this year.

Better Cameras, Brighter Photos, Quicker Capture

The OnePlus 12 isn’t playing around when it comes to cameras. The smartphone comes equipped with a LYTA sensor collaboratively developed with Sony. The new 50-megapixel LYT-808 sensor allows for brighter, more detailed photos and videos. This is complemented by Omnivision’s 64-megapixel OV64B periscope sensor with 3x optical zoom and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultrawide sensor. This setup is further complemented by Hasselblad’s algorithm for image capture.

OP12

Together with the hardware, OnePlus is leveraging OPPO’s years of know-how when it comes to imaging. The new flagship has support for ProXDR which allows for better performance in challenging light conditions. Paired with the new LYT-808 sensor, the 12 is gearing up to be the best-performing camera to date from OnePlus.

OnePlus surprises with gaming monitor announcement

OnePlus continues its foray into the gaming space with the announcement of two new gaming monitors.

A worthy gaming monitor entry; OnePlus X27

The two OnePlus gaming monitors announced are the high end X27 and the more budget friendly E24. The X27 is the premium offering, with a 27-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution IPS panel with 165Hz refresh rate. Claims have been made for 1ms response time and support for VESA’s DisplayHDR 400, standard offerings of current gaming monitors. Rounding out the specs are support for AMD Freesync, 10-bit colour and coverage for 95% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The design of the X27 is more similar to modern productivity monitors with slim bezels. You won’t find any bold design decisions with the “gamer” aesthetic of funky back panel designs or color accents here.

There is, however, a good array of ports along the back panel. These include a high power 65W USB-C port that can charge your devices, even power your laptop. There is also an HDMI 2.1 port, a DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A 3.0 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It comes with a stand that is height adjustable with pivot, tilt and swivel functions. It can be mounted with a VESA 75mm mount. While looking pedestrian, the OnePlus X27 packs some decent specifications for a gaming monitor.

Gaming on a budget with the OnePlus E24

OnePlus E24
The E24 is more budget friendly but expect more modest specifications. Image source: SoyaCincau

The budget variant of OnePlus gaming monitors, the E24, packs understandably lesser specs than the X27. The 24-inch IPS panel supports a 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution and lower refresh rate of 75Hz. It does not carry neither AMD Freesync support nor VESA’s DisplayHDR 400 or colour coverage of the X27. The stand is only tilt adjustable and there are lesser ports; a 18W Power Delivery (PD) USB-C port, a HDMI 1.4 port, a VGA port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. With these harware concessions, will the price point be able to justify it?

At the moment, the OnePlus X27 is only available in India, retailing at INR 28000 (approx. RM1500) while there is no price or availability details on the E24. With many concessions in hardware, we do expect a significantly reduced price. With OnePlus already announcing a mechanical keyboard in the making, can we expect more gaming tech from OnePlus? Only time will tell

OnePlus Announces the OnePlus 10T 5G Without the Notification Slider But With 15 Antennae

OnePlus seems to be returning to its “Never Settle” roots with the announcement of its latest flagship – the OnePlus 10T 5G. The new smartphone is poised to be one of the most affordable flagships this year and focuses on top-notch performance – even in extreme temperatures.

Never Settle with Flagship Specifications

The OnePlus 10T comes equipped with the latest from Qualcomm – the Snapdragon 8+Gen 1. Complementing this is the highest amount of RAM to be on a OnePlus smartphone – 16GB. The 10T also features RAM expansion which allows you to get a further 7GB of RAM for buttery smooth performance. This comes in addition to the new software enhancements that come in OxygenOS 12.1. OnePlus is touting that these enhancements and the RAM allow the smartphone to perform even with 35 apps suspended in the background.

OnePlus 10T 5G 20

That said, the OnePlus 10T isn’t just about processing. It comes with a 6.7-inch, Fluid AMOLED display capable of 120Hz refresh rates, a 720Hz response rate and HDR10+. It also has adaptive refresh rate technology which allows the display to adapt the refresh rate to suit your content. Higher refresh rates will be used when doing things like gaming while battery performance will be prioritised when doing things like reading with lower refresh rates.

The one big omission in the OnePlus 10T is the notification slider which was the company’s signature. However, OnePlus is making up for that with better connectivity. The 10T comes with 15 antennae and AI enhancements that allow it to have better connectivity and network performance.

1-100% in 19 Minutes with SuperVOOC Endurance Edition

Speaking of battery life, the OnePlus 10T comes with a 4,800mAh battery which charges via the USB-C 2.0 port on the phone. It supports SuperVOOC Charging of up to 150W. With SuperVOOV Endurance Edition, the 10T can get a day’s battery life with 10 minutes of charging. A full charge from 1-100% will only take 19 minutes.

With the growing concern of fast charging affecting battery health, OnePlus is bringing what they call the Battery Health Engine to the 10T. This system will work to ensure the best battery performance with minimal loss in battery capacity. The OnePlus 10T is also equipped with two charging pumps instead of the conventional single pump. This allows the phone to charge at faster speeds more efficiently with reduced heat and greater safety.

Unibody Design with 3 Cameras

The OnePlus 10T comes with a unibody design. The phone has been designed to be ergonomic and feels good in the hand. The rounded edges on the back make it easy to hold and manoeuvre the flat display with one hand. OnePlus has also given the smartphone a signature Jade Green colourway which is accented with a punch of deep metallic green.

OnePlus 10T 5G 19

Within the deep green portion lies the smartphone’s triple camera setup. Yep – triple camera. The new triple camera setup consists of a wide, ultrawide and macro sensor. The main sensor of the 10T is the 50–megapixel Sony IMX766 which comes equipped with optical image stabilization and improved HDR performance. This main sensor is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front is a 16-megapixel sensor for selfies.

Pricing & Availability

The OnePlus 10T will be available in Jade Green and Moonstone Black globally. For now, it looks like only the Jade Green version of the smartphone will be making its way to Malaysia.

It will be available in three variants: 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, 12GB RAM with 256GB of storage and 16GB RAM with 256GB of storage. The 12GB version seems to be exclusive to India. Early access starts on 3rd August 2022 on OnePlus.com. It will be available in stages across different regions starting with Europe.

Pre-orders in Europe start today, 3rd August with general availability on the 25th of August. In the U.S. pre-orders will begin on 1 September 2022 with general availability on 29th September. It will be available in Malaysia starting on 1 September 2022.
