What’s in the Box

#techenttv unboxes the #HP #SmartTank580 All In One Printer

Design

20240308 154555

The HP Smart Tank 580 is a reasonably well built machine that has a sturdy body and looks clean. Coming in at (WxDxH) 43.4 x 58.0 x 25.9 cm when fully unpacked, this AIO printer can take up a sizable space on your desk. So there might be some planning involved with many components that unfold or expand.

20240308 154621 1

Also, it is a shame that the printer’s output swinging tray seems fragile and easy to break in an otherwise well build printer.

20240308 154718 1

The display and menu buttons are the Smart Tank 580 is on the small side and doesn’t give much information. The HP Smart app is the easiest and main way to interact with the printer for maintenance.

20240308 1546041

The transparent housing of each ink tank reservoir on the front ensures easy, quick monitoring for when you need to get refills. It also comes with an integrated ink sensor to warn you as well if you forget to look.

Maintenance and Consumables

Like most inkjets printers, there is some fair amount of maintenance for these printers. Printheads can clog and you may need to run printhead cleaning or an ink purge to get it print well again. Nothing really new on that front, just standard issues you would have with any inkjet printer.

20240308 173000

The tanks are quite a good size on the HP Smart Tank 580 and you shouldn’t be having to refill them often. You are looking at up to 6,000 colour or black and white documents per refill.

20240308 172915 1

Even when you have to refill, it is super easy and cheap with their ink refill bottles. Also, is essentially mess free with their spill-free refill experience.

20240308 174200

The same, however, can’t be said for the printer heads. With only one small access to the printer’s guts, anyone with big hands or short fingers may have trouble installing/maintaining/replacing the printer heads or fixing paper jams. This is where having the scanner bed being able to lift would have been a great feature to have for easier maintenance.

Print heads should be about RM40 to replace and ink bottles would be RM34 for the black and RM31 per colour.

Scanner

The HP Smart Tank 580 comes with a basic flatbed scanner that can scan 8.5 x 11 inches and A4 size. It has no adjustable flatbed hinge and no Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). So if you want to scan a book or multi page documents, you will struggle with the process. Otherwise, it works well for what it is and will allow you to make copies and scans relatively easily. Also, the copy ID card function is also quite nice to have.

Mobile App & Connectivity

Screenshot 20240308 182331 HP Smart

HP has one of the most comprehensive and easy-to-use apps to control and send prints to the printer. This is also how you will be troubleshooting and maintenance the HP Smart Tank 580.

20240308 154759

This printer is easy to connect to your Wi-Fi network allowing easy of printing and scanning. Any devices that are connected by Wi-Fi will be able to easily access the printer. Sadly, there are no ethernet capabilities and may have trouble if more than 3 people try using the printer at the same time. There is also an ability to connect via USB as well.

Printing

Printing black and white documents, the printer performs well and at a good speed of about 12 pages per minute (PPM). The colour printing, however, is on the slower side, especially for any large images. You are looking at an average of 4-5 PPM for mixed image and text documents. For those full A4 size coloured prints, it will take almost a minute to print. This is pretty standard for more budget friendly printers and is still a good speed for daily use on the small scale.

HP Smart 580 comparison

The print qualities overall are quite good and detailed, but we notice some small loss of colour variability. This will make some images feel ever so slightly muted as shown on the top print vs the bottom. Though if not comparing anything side by side, the prints are of good quality and are great for the price.

photo 6329987238695387470 y

Now, for making multiple copies of the same document, the buttons could be a bit fiddly to get the number you want. The user needs to keep pressing the copy button or hold until you get to your desired number and let go.

Also, the printer is relatively quiet, but will shake a less than sturdy table. So make sure the table is heavy and sturdy enough to compensate for the printhead moving back and forth.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the HP Smart Tank 580 is a solid choice for home offices or budget-minded users. The print quality is good for everyday tasks, and the large ink reservoirs with spill-free refills keep printing costs down and easy. However, those who need a machine for heavy-duty photo printing or frequent multi-page document scanning might be better served looking elsewhere. Consider the trade-offs between affordability, ease of use, and features before deciding if the HP Smart Tank 580 is the right fit for you.

HP Trucks in their New Gaming Laptops Spearheaded by the New OMEN 16 and Victus 16

HP Gaming Launch 3

HP is updating their gaming lineup with the latest and greatest from AMD and Intel in a totally new, larger form factor. The new laptops announced are equipped with larger displays, higher refresh rates and more features to the company’s robust gaming offerings. Expanding both the OMEN by HP and Victus gaming lineups with more robust laptops and better build quality, HP is looking to bring something for every gamer.

Together with the new editions to their gaming lineup, HP Malaysia is also bringing back their HP Gaming Truck which will be making its way around Malaysia starting with the Klang Valley.

HP OMEN 16 – Supped up to Win

The new OMEN 16 expands the offerings under the OMEN by HP gaming brand with a more robust laptop with a larger 16-inch display. The OMEN 16 ushers in a new generation of OMEN by HP Gaming laptops which look to up the ante when it comes to gaming performance.

HP Gaming Launch 40

The OMEN Gaming Laptop 16 comes with an improved Tempest cooling system that brings physical changes that impact performance. The updated Tempest Cooling System comes with an added fifth heat pipe and an additional fourth outflow vent. The former allows for better heat dissipation from the processor and GPU while the latter allows the air to be channelled out of the chassis keeping temperatures lower. HP claims that these improvements have resulted in a 3% reduction in temperature at the GPU hinge and a 14% reduction in temperature on the bottom of the SSD. Aside from the increased cooling, the new Tempest system is also 5% quieter than the last generation.

In addition to the physical heating system, HP has also spent some time looking at the internals of the OMEN 16. The new generation of OMEN 16 Gaming Laptops come with 12th Generation Intel processors ranging from the Core i5 to the Core i9 internationally. In Malaysia, this caps off at the Core i7. There are also configurations supporting the AMD Ryzen 6000 SoCs. Like the Intel versions, this caps out at the Ryzen 9. These processors are complemented with at least 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage.

The HP OMEN 16 comes with a 16.1-inch, QHD IPS display with a refresh rate of 165Hz. It also has a 3ms response time. The display supports 100% of the sRGB gamut with a 300-nits brightness and a micro-edge design. The laptops have configurations supporting up to the NVIDIA GeForce 3070 Ti GPU. HP isn’t skimping on ports either, the OMEN 16 comes with a full array of ports including an RJ45 ethernet port, ThunderBolt 4 and USB-A ports.

HP Victus 16 – Affordable Powerhouse

HP Gaming Launch 44

The Victus inherits most of the ethos and DNA of the OMEN 16. However, it does it affordably; packing all the essentials. When it comes to processors, the HP Victus 16 comes with configurations supporting the 12th Generation Intel Core i7 and the AMD Ryzen 6000 series. This is paired with at least 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

On the display front, the 16.1-inch IPS display has a 1080p FHD resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate and 250 nits brightness. The display comes with the same micro-edge design and covers 45% of the NTSC gamut. The HP Victus 16 has configurations with up to the NVIDIA RTX3050 Ti or the AMD Radeon 6500M.

Pricing & Availability

The HP OMEN 16 and Victus 16 are already available from HP via their official store or retail partners and online stores.

The OMEN 16 is priced from MYR7,599 for the AMD version and MYR7,799 for the Intel version.

The Victus 16 is priced from MYR4,299 for the AMD version and MYR3,749 for the Intel version.

The HP ZBook Studio G9 is Here – The Ultimate Professional Mobile Workstation is Here!

Creators are a unique bunch. They are very much like gamers. They require a lot of power in their PC for all kinds of things they need to do with their PC. They require specialized hardware to be in their PC for their work. Weirdly enough, in the modern era of work, they require all the power they need to be packed in a single portable slate of a device.

Creators are also rather distinct to gamers. While they want all the power in the world in their backpacks, they want subtlety as well. They want a laptop that can stay discreet and quiet even under load. They want something that looks rather regular compared to the over-the-top looks of a gaming PC. Instead of blacks and reds, they want silvers and whites.

While it all sounds impossible, HP seems to have figured something out. They have created and launched the ZBook Studio G9. On paper, it is one of the most powerful laptops made for the studio in the world. It also looks like a regular laptop with no extraordinary vents or gills for cooling purposes. You do not even have to attach it to anything for it to work with the beast lurking inside.

  • HP ZBook Studio G9 1
  • HP ZBook Studio G9 5
  • HP ZBook Studio G9 4
  • HP ZBook Studio G9 3
  • HP ZBook Studio G9 2

The beast inside is a 12th generation Intel Core i9 (up to) paired with an NVIDIA RTX A5500 or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (up to). You also get up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM to take advantage of Intel’s 12th generation Core processor speeds. To keep everything properly cooled is HP’s owne Vaportforce Thermal technology that works with new curved metal blades to dissipate enough heat to keep the ZBook Studio G9 working optimally.

Displaying Windows 1o Pro in all its glory, or whatever software you use for work, is a 16-inch display that they call HP DreamColor display. It offers 120Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio. You also get WQXGA (up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels) in resolution with the brilliant display, so you have more canvas to work with. The ZBook Studio G9 is also equipped with Bang & Olufsen tuned speakers so that you can quickly process audio data with the highest level of accuracy even when you are on-the-go.

All of this power is wrapped in an MIL-STD 810 certified body. That means it can handle simple spillages or even the occasional drop; accidents happen. The entire laptop also weighs 1.73 kg, which is not a lot of weight for a laptop that carries so much weight within its svelte body.

The HP ZBook Studio G9 will be available in Malaysia July onward with prices announced then as well. There are no colour options for the laptop, it only comes in silver. The bonus is that it is made entirely out of aluminium. If you want one, you have to contact your HP representative to get a quote. For more information on the ZBook Studio G9 though, you can visit their website.

The HP ZBook Firefly G9 is Here – Creativity at its Best, On-The-Go That Is

The creative professional market is hot in its strides for a few years now. It is understandable though, since it is a fresh take on performance PCs that are not gaming specific devices. Before all these hard-charging devices exist, creative professionals had to mostly rely on gaming specific devices to get their specific work done and to meet their own requirements.

Gaming specific PCs had a lot of power packed into them, which is why creative professionals would understandably prefer them for their work. The thing is gaming specific devices are quite compromised for the professional creative studio. They tend to be loud, with the sometimes-extreme thermal requirements that are extra powerful hardware. The cooling fans must go into overdrive most of the time to cool the hardware which would usually make the entire room sounds like a bomb is about to go off.

It does not have to be so anymore though with a slew of devices designed and manufactured specifically for the creative professionals in the world of content creation, The HP ZBook Firefly G9 is such a device. As a bonus, its user gets to take it anywhere to get productive.

First things first, the ZBook Firefly G9 packs the most powerful Intel CPUs to date, the 12th generation Core processors. You can pair the processor with up to an NVIDIA T550 or RTX A500 GPU for a smooth and fast 3D workflow anywhere you take the laptop. With up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM, speed is never going to be a problem with the ZBook Firefly G9.

Ample Memory

To ensure that you have enough storage to work with, you can opt for up to 2TB in Gen4 PCIe NVMe SSD. Of course, you get to enjoy speedy access to all your work too when you need it. If you need to expand your storage, there is an extra Gen3 PCIe slot for you to work with.

Accurate Display

Everything you need is displayed via either a 14-inch or 16-inch display. Both options go up to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200 pixels) resolutions with up to 100% sRGB colour gamut. While 400nits may not sound like a lot for a display for creative professionals, it is more than enough for most creative work remotely. If you wish to, there is a HDMI 2.0b power or two Thunderbolt 4 ports for you to connect to works specific displays for better colour accuracy and what not. It is also a 16:10 aspect ratio display, for extra working real estate on your laptop.

Made for Remote Working

The ZBook Firefly G9 is really made for remote working. It packs up to 13-hours in battery life, so that you can be working off-site for longer with no battery anxiety. If you need to go on a team meeting via teleconference, you get a 5-Megapixel AI camera that also tracks your movements while ensuring that your voice gets through loud and clear despite your busy surroundings. You do not only get WiFi 6E too, you get to opt for a ZBook Firefly G9 with 5G connectivity to really work anywhere you open your laptop. Step Into NVIDIA’s RTX 30 Series Experience with The HP Pavilion Gaming 15

What do you get when you need a multipurpose tool that you can have fun with, be productive with, be creative with, and does not break the bank? In 2021, that means you get an NVIDIA® GeForce RTXTM 3050 gaming laptop. While most will tell you that building a gaming desktop PC is usually the way to go when you want a powerful tool that could fit the bill for entertainment, creativity, and productivity, a gaming laptop could make a little more sense in these times.

The question now is not whether or not you should get a gaming laptop. You still have a tough decision ahead though. In the sea of gaming notebook PCs in the market, which one would be the right one for you?

For all the consideration above, the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series powered HP Pavilion Gaming 15 might be the one for you.

Experience Modern Gaming with NVIDIA

Despite its “entry-level” moniker, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 still packs plenty of punch, equipped with a rather powerful NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050. The new award-winning NVIDIA Ampere architecture on NVIDIA’s 2nd Generation RTX Architecture  is also a large step up from the previous generation’s platform. That means you are getting a lot more performance for your money in this department.

Being a part of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX family also means you have access to NVIDIA’s game changing technologies. You can experience Ray Tracing for the most realistic gaming experience with ultra-realistic lighting and reflection models. You get NVIDIA DLSS technology too to optimise your gaming performance. The OMEN Command Center ensures that gaming is an uninterrupted and immersive experience by prioritising what is important to you.

The GPU powers a modest Full HD 144Hz display measuring at 15.6-inch. The IPS panel also means that the display projects bright, vivid colours that could benefit in both gaming and working situations. While the display may not be the highest resolution or fastest available, it also means that the internal hardware can take full advantage of the display’s 144Hz refresh rate.

Of course, the GPU alone cannot be handling everything required for a game to run at high frame rates. To really optimise the gaming experience, you need a powerful CPU to pair with. You get to choose between up to an 11th Generation Intel Core i7 or an AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU.

Of course, with powerful hardware, gaming is just half the story. The stealthy, Shadow Black colour scheme and design language of the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 allows it to blend in at your workplace. It is thin and light to as well, meaning moving it from home and to work is not a chore.

The Powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050  paired with a powerful CPU from either Intel or AMD allows you to easily work across any creative software with ease. Need to edit a video using Adobe’s Premiere Pro, no sweat. Need to get a photo edited quickly with a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, done. With up to 16GB in RAM (8GB x 2),  no creative task is too great for the HP Pavilion Gaming 15.

At the end of the day, when it is time to take a break from the hustle and bustle, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 comes equipped with powerful speakers tuned and designed by Bang & Olufsen. The powerful audio drivers come with a built-in discrete amplifier to make the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 a true entertainment powerhouse. With the B&O sound system, you can cast your worries away with soothing music. Or, when the mood takes you, you can get immersive audio and graphics while battling with your friends in Doom Eternal and Rainbow Six: Siege. When the hustle and bustle of competition gets a little tiring, you can go into titles like Minecraft, and even Red Dead Redemption 2 to get some peace and quiet.

The HP Pavilion Gaming 15 is now available in Shadow Black accented with an Acid Green LED backlit keyboard. You can get the new HP Pavilion Gaming 15 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 and AMD Ryzen 5 5000 series for MYR 3,899 onward via their website.
