New CXL Memory Expansion Server Redefines High-Performance Computing

CXL Memory Expansion is a cutting-edge technology designed to enhance both the bandwidth and capacity of system memory in modern computing environments. The CXL 2.0 standard introduces a high-performance memory access mechanism that allows expansion devices to directly interface with the CPU’s memory hierarchy, treating the additional memory modules as if they were part of the system’s native memory. By connecting CXL Memory Expansion devices to the system, organizations can scale up their memory resources efficiently, achieving both greater memory capacity and improved data throughput for high-performance computing tasks.

The newly announced MSI S2301 server is ready for select 5th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs and significantly boosts application performance through its support for CXL 2.0 Memory Expansion. By integrating CXL 2.0 over PCIe 5.0 x8 links in an E3.S-2T form factor, the S2301 server allows users to seamlessly add CXL-compliant memory expansion devices, effectively extending the server’s memory resources beyond the limitations of traditional DRAM configurations. This capability enhances application performance in several ways: it increases the total amount of accessible system memory, high-performance computing tasks, and it improves memory bandwidth through direct, coherent access between the CPU and the additional memory modules. CXL Innovative Ecosystem

Ortel Introduces Next Generation Laser Model for LiDAR and Optical Sensing


ALHAMBRA, Calif., March 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Expanding the options for optical sensing across C-Band wavelengths in applications that require wide temperature and humidity ranges, Ortel, a Photonics Foundries enterprise, announced Model 1786 1550 nm Laser Module for Optical Sensing. The 1786 laser was developed for use as a CW (Continuous Wavelength) coherent optical source for optical sensing systems.

“We are excited to announce the 1786 laser as the first new product from Ortel under Photonics Foundries ownership,” said Gyo Shinozaki, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Ortel. “With the added resources of Photonics Foundries, this is just the first of many new and innovative technology releases our customers can expect to see from Ortel.”

The 1786 laser offers designers a narrow linewidth source with a wide range of output powers. The laser will achieve a maximum of 300 KHz of linewidth and will be offered in 40mW, 50mW and 63mW variants. The laser is packaged in an industry standard 14-pin butterfly package and comes coupled to an internal thermo-electric cooler (“TEC”) for applications that are exposed to wide temperature ranges and humidity. The 1786 laser is qualified to Telcordia GR-468 standards to ensure long term reliability and is a perfect complement to the already available 1790 high-powered coherent laser that features ultra-narrow linewidth below 100 KHz.

At MWC Barcelona 2024, O-RAN ALLIANCE Participants Showcase Advanced Solutions to Improve RAN Performance

BONN, Germany, Feb. 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — O-RAN ALLIANCE participants will present 41 demos of latest improvements to open and intelligent Radio Access Networks (RAN) throughout MWC Barcelona 26-29 February 2024 and at the O-RAN Virtual Exhibition.

The showcased intelligent RAN solutions demonstrate capabilities aiming to improve the RAN performance in traffic steering, energy savings, service quality, spectrum efficiency and network management. Examples include machine learning models for network load balancing, orchestrating applications’ requests for network resources, and private network management.

The latest products and components, based on O-RAN specifications and presented by companies at MWC, demonstrate improved efficiency, security, interoperability, and vendor diversity for mobile network operators.

Many demos illustrate the increased maturity of the O-RAN ecosystem, focusing on O-RAN integration and testing enhancements for RAN Intelligent Controllers (RIC), energy efficiency, security, and testing automation.

O-RAN ALLIANCE plans to publish an interactive map of O-RAN demos at MWC to allow easy navigation to the demos at the exhibition. Many of the demos will also be included in the O-RAN Virtual Exhibition, expected to be available at the start of MWC.

Summit attendees will learn about the latest updates and progress of O-RAN. The summit will discuss how O-RAN intelligent solutions bring benefits to operators in such areas as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), energy efficiency, automation, agility, security, system integration, certification, and improved overall economics. O-RAN members, contributors, media and analysts, and others interested in the state of Open RAN are invited to attend. Raytron to Light Up SPIE Photonics West 2024 with Infrared Tech Marvels

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Raytron will meet the customers at booth No.4118 of SPIE Photonics West in the Moscone Center, San Francisco from January 30 to February 1, 2024. The world’s first 8μm 1920 uncooled long-wave infrared detector will make a stunning debut, and the highly praised G series thermal module and Mini and Tiny series modules will also be presented. At this exhibition, Raytron will present the InfiRay® ASIC Uncooled Thermal Module.
