CMF by Nothing has launched its first smartphone – the CMF Phone 1. Aimed at the budget-conscious consumer without compromising on style or substance, the phone embodies the brand’s philosophy of transparent design and accessible technology.

At the heart of the CMF Phone 1 is its distinctive aesthetic. The transparent back panel offers a unique glimpse into the phone’s internal components, a design choice that sets it apart from the competition. This design element is complemented by a customizable back panel, allowing users to personalize their devices to match their style.

Performance-wise, the phone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, ensuring smooth operation for everyday tasks. A dual rear camera system, featuring a 50MP main sensor, handles photography and videography needs adequately. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display delivers vibrant visuals, enhancing the overall user experience.

Pricing & Availability

Priced competitively at USD$199 internationally and RM1,099 in Malaysia for the version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will be available in Black, Orange, and Light Green colour options, the phone also comes with customizable back panels to suit individual preferences. Pre-orders for the CMF Phone 1 commenced on July 8th, 2024, with official sales starting on July 15th.

The CMF Phone will also have accessories available. The case which will be available in Black, Orange, Light Green and Blue will be priced at RM99. The phone stand will be priced at RM59, the Lanyard at RM59 and the Card Case at RM59.

The Watch Pro 2 comes in two colour options for the watch body (Dark Grey and Ash Grey) with interchangeable bezels available in Dark Grey, Ash Grey, Blue, and Orange.

The CMF Buds Pro 2 will be priced at USD$59 internationally and at RM299 in Malaysia. Buds Pro 2 continue this trend. The Buds Pro 2 are currently offered in Dark Grey, Light Grey, and Orange.

Both are expected to be available for purchase in Malaysia starting July 15th, 2024.

Nothing Announces “CMF by Nothing” with Two Upcoming Products

Nothing is making waves with its approach to aesthetic technology. Hot on the heels of the release of the Nothing Phone (2), the company took to YouTube to give its quarterly community update. In this update, the team at Nothing in London gave a quick overview of the goings-on at the company. However, the updates’ other content was overshadowed by a special announcement from its founder, Carl Pei.

That announcement is a new brand focused on bringing Nothing’s design philosophy to a more affordable price point. “CMF by Nothing” will continue to share Nothing’s design-led and user-centric approach to technology however, the new brand will focus on creating accessible products with a clean design and trusted quality. This breaks away from Nothing’s philosophy of pushing design innovation with premium materials and the latest technology. To ensure continuity with the efforts at Nothing itself, Car Pei notes that “CMF by Nothing” will be spearheaded by an independent team.

Nothing Community Update | Q2 2023

The announcement doesn’t end there, Carl Pei also announced that the new brand will be releasing CMF-branded smartwatch and headphones. The products are expected to make their debut later this year. There is so far no indication if the smartwatch will be utilising Google’s Wear OS software or going the route of OnePlus and Amazfit with a totally different OS.

It’s worth keeping in mind that Nothing has yet to release any smartwatch under the Nothing brand. So, it’s going to be interesting to see how CMF by Nothing will define clean design without Nothing leading the way in the product category.
