Acer Ups Its Environmental Efforts with the Acer Aspire Vero 16 & A Commitment to Phase Out Carbon Credits

As Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) is becoming an increasingly hot topic, Acer is looking to lead the tech industry with a renewed commitment to effectively reduce its carbon footprint. In fact, the company gunning for carbon neutrality with its upcoming Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P) laptop. The Aspire Vero has already broken new ground in the usage of recycled materials used in the laptop. However, Acer is looking to make the product a truly carbon-neutral one.

3840lifestyle 4

The Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P) will be leading the company’s charge into carbon neutrality. Starting from its manufacturing every step of the process will be optimised. Materials and partners for the laptop will be part of this effort. A top-to-toe audit and revamp of its processes to align with international standards for carbon footprint calculation and neutrality.

An En-Vero-mentally Conscious Approach from Top-to-Toe

Jerry Kao, Acer Inc.’s COO, emphasized the company’s focus on ‘conscious technology’ designed with a future-forward approach. The Aspire Vero series has been a pioneer in eco-conscious design from its inception. The Aspire Vero 16 continues this legacy by minimizing its carbon footprint throughout its lifecycle. This starts from manufacturing and even includes packaging and end-of-life recycling.

The laptop’s chassis has been a standout when it comes to sustainable design. From the get-go, recycled plastic has been used in manufacturing the Vero. With the Aspire Vero 16, the percentage of recycled plastic has increased to over 60% – a significant increase from the previous generation. It is free from volatile organic compounds, paint, or additives, contributing to a cleaner environment. The recycled materials are not only in the chassis either, the touchpad also incorporates ocean-bound plastic.

It’s not just about materials either, Acer’s Aspire Vero is also designed to be easily taken apart for repairs and upgrades. This conscious design also allows the laptop to be recycled more effectively.

Working to Achieve Carbon Neutrality Even in Usage

On the technology side of things, Acer has integrated the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra processors into the Aspire Vero 16, ensuring better power efficiency compared to its predecessors. The addition of Intel AI Boost, an integrated neural processing unit (NPU), brings AI-powered capabilities with extreme energy efficiency, aligning with Acer’s green vision.

Even when it comes to power management, the laptop comes with AcerSense software. This software in the Aspire Vero 16 focuses on energy efficiency. It offers four performance modes: Eco+, Eco, Balanced, and Performance, allowing users to optimize power consumption based on their needs.

lifestyle 2

To address the environmental impact of packaging, Acer is adopting sustainable practices. The company recycles scrap materials created during production, and the laptop’s packaging is 100% recyclable. The thoughtful design also includes the 100% recycled FSC-certified paper box that can be easily repurposed.

In shipping, Acer has partnered with like-minded logistics providers. These providers are reducing carbon emissions from standard shipping of sea containers through the use of biofuel on various routes. After implementing these emission reduction measures, Acer will retire high-quality carbon credits to achieve carbon neutrality.

Acer’s renewed approach to sustainability and environmental stewardship comes amidst increasing criticism from watchdogs and environmentalists towards companies relying on carbon credits for sustainability efforts. Acer’s approach to ‘conscious technology’ is the first to date that aims to retire carbon credits and instead rely on impactful changes throughout the processes of manufacturing, transport and even disposal of products.

[next@Acer 2023] Sustainability is Front & Centre with the new Aspire Vero Laptop & Acer Vero Projector

Acer’s Vero products have become the cornerstone of their commercial efforts to deliver a more sustainable choice to consumers. These products have changed the expectations that we have when it comes to laptops being sustainable and eco-friendly. The same lineup is getting expanded with a larger laptop refresh and a new projector.

Acer Aspire Vero 15 Laptop – Better Specs, Greener Tech

Acer’s Vero pioneer – the Apsire Vero Laptop – is getting a much-needed refresh. The new Aspire Vero 15 laptop comes equipped with better, more competitive specifications and uses updated fabrication and creation that makes it greener and more efficient than before.

Aspire Vero 15 AV15 53P lifestyle 01

Like its predecessor, the Aspire Vero 15 Laptop is an Intel Evo laptop which promises good performance and long-lasting battery life. Equipped with Intel’s 13th-generation processors, the laptop is more efficient and packs more power. It comes with Intel Iris Xe graphics. It’s even got more power offerings coming with up to the Intel Core i7. The processor is complemented with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 2 M.2 ports that support up to 1TB of storage. It’s also coming with a complete array of I/O ports. It’s completed with a 1440p QHD camera with Acer’s PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice AI noise reduction technology and a FullHD 15.6-inch display.

The advancements that the laptop brings aren’t about the specifications though. It’s all about the materials and processes that are used in making it. The Aspire Vero 15 Laptop incorporates more post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics than its predecessor with a process that emits 30% less carbon. The new laptop now uses 40% PCR plastics in its chassis – a 10% increase over the previous Vero laptop. In addition, the keycaps and adapter casing are using PCR materials making up a whopping 50% of their build. The new fabrication process also uses less volatile organic compounds and results in a sturdier, stronger chassis.

Aspire Vero 15 AV15 53P 01

Acer also continues to include its VeroSense software suite which allows users to have more control over their own carbon footprint. Using the app, users will be able to control power efficiency with preset or customised profiles when they are plugged in and on the go.

Acer Vero Smart Projector – Projecting more Sustainably

Acer is no stranger when it comes to projectors. Having already created an extensive portfolio which includes its Predator Gaming projectors, it was only a matter of time before they incorporated Vero technology and optimisations into their projectors.

The new Acer Vero PL3510ATV Projector is one of the most power-efficient projectors in their lineup. It comes with a Full HD resolution and dynamic 4,8000 ANSOI lumens laser diode with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. Acer’s Sustainable Laptop – the Aspire Vero – Gets an Intel 12th Gen Refresh

Acer is updating their most sustainable laptop – the Acer Aspire Vero – with 12th Generation Intel Core processors. The update brings even more power and battery efficiency thanks to a change in the microarchitecture compared to the previous generation.

The newly refreshed Aspire Vero comes with options for the 12th Generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. Both come with Intel Xe Graphics built-in. They also feature 8GB of RAM with up to 512GB of SSD memory out of the box. This round, you’ll be able to upgrade to a maximum of 24GB of dual channel RAM.

[next@acer 2022] Acer Expands the Vero Series to an Entire Line-up – Eco-Friendliness is not A Gimmick

When organisations say that they are going green, they make things sound super simple. They start with their target numbers, their current numbers, their future, and that is sort of the end of their story, as far as eco-friendliness is concerned. When it comes to talking about making products more sustainable, they usually refer to their current production method and use of sustainable materials in products.

Acer is doing it differently though.

Acer announced their Earthion initiative back in 2020. In that, they have committed to making their company as sustainable as possible in the coming years. They plan to fully rely on renewable energy by 2035, which is a lofty ambition. They also mentioned that for them to achieve such lofty ambitions, they needed the help and support of their entire support chain too. They needed their support system to comply to their own standards of minimal carbon footprint and completely relying on renewable sources of energy.

Welcome to the entire range of Vero products. We have seen the Aspire Vero and TravelMate Vero launched before. The Aspire Vero was so interesting that National Geographic wanted their brand on the product, thus the Acer Aspire Vero National Geographic Edition that we recently saw.

With Next@Acer 2022, the Vero line-up is complete. They have introduced the new Veriton Vero All-in-One desktop solution and two new Vero monitors with premium IPS panels.

The first thing that greets you when you take the Veriton Vero out of its 100% recyclable packaging is the brilliant 24-inch Full HD IPS display. The bezels are super-thin, in fact the display covers 88% of the Veriton Vero’s body. If you need to, the entire thing is VESA compatible to keep your table organised and clean.

The Veriton Vero’s shell is made of the same PCR material that the Aspire Vero is made of. It is constructed with 30% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) materials. The included keyboard and mouse also come with 65% PCR materials on top and 30% ocean bound plastics at the bottom to not only match the design intricacies that is the Veriton Vero AIO, but also as a statement of commitment to their Earthion programme. The AIO itself also features a screwless back so that users can easily access the internals to either upgrade or repair the device. Of course, Acer’s service centres will always be happy to help.

Once you open it up though, you will find Intel’s latest and greatest 12th Generation Core i9 (up to) processor and can spec it up to an NVIDIA GeForce MX550 GPU. You can even fit up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR4 3200 MHz RAM modules to the AIO if you need. This Veriton Vero is a workhorse with these internals.

To top it all off, you get WiFi 6E capabilities built-into the AIO for a fast, reliable, and stable internet connection. With two USB 3.2 Type-C ports that supports up to 20Gbps data transfer speeds, it is a versatile piece of kit on your desk. In the way of storage expansion, the Veriton Vero can support up to two M.2 SSDs at 2TB capacities.

Being powerful is never enough. You need it to be safe too if you are going to rely on it for work. BlueLightShield protects your eyes in extended use cases by reducing blue light emissions by up to 30%. Your data is kept save with Windows Hello’s IR facial recognition scanner with TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0 built into the device. There is also a Tobii Aware smart sensor that locks out any other users that tires to access the PC. The same camera that does all this is also your webcam that can be shuttered to keep prying eyes at bay. You can even turn it away from you to project an entire room in a video conference.

Thing is, you might not need a Veriton Vero AIO. You already have a functioning PC, but you need a monitor instead. Acer has you covered with a 27-inch Full HD CB273 monitor or a 23.8-inch Full HD B247Y G monitor.

While Acer wants to keep it as affordable and accessible as possible, you are not getting some random VA LCD panel for your monitors though. Both monitors feature IPS panels for accurate colour reproduction and plenty of viewing angles. The panels are good for a ΔE<1 rating and TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe® certified. They even come with KVM switch function to allow you to work with multiple PC inputs at a time. This way, you only need a single set of keyboard and mouse to work with. It even provides up to 90W power delivery via its USB Type-C port so that you only need one running cable from your wall port.

The best part about it is that it is made almost entirely of recycled materials. The entirety of the body is made with 85% PCR and 5% ocean bound plastics. Yes, it also features the same sort of design and look as the Aspire Vero. You might want to think about pairing the Aspire Vero to this monitor, just to match the looks.

Of course, the original Aspire Vero cannot be forgotten with the other products. The Aspire Vero, after all, is the original Vero product. The Vero line-up might not have been a thing if its not for the Aspire Vero. It is 2022 though and the Aspire Vero is still outfitted with 2021 hardware.

For 2022, the Aspire Vero series gets a modern 12th Generation Intel Core treatment. Both the 14-inch and 15-inch variant of the Aspire Vero also gets OceanGlass trackpads made out of ocean bound plastics. Nothing much else has changed other than that.

You get to pick from two colour options now though for both the 14-inch and 15-inch variants. The 14-inch variant now comes in Mariana Blue while the 15-inch variant can be opted with Starry Black colour instead of their original Cobblestone Grey colour option. They have also redesigned the packaging of the Aspire Vero a little bit so that more of its can be repurposed rather than disposed.

The Acer Aspire Vero is the first time that PCR plastics have been used to make a significant portion of a laptop. In the Aspire Vero specifically, 30% of its chassis is made using PCR plastics while its keycaps are made of 50% PCR plastics. Acer’s environmentally aware laptop is also designed to be easily upgraded and repaired.

The partnership will see a special edition of the Aspire Vero being released. Acer Brings the Aspire Vero to Malaysia

We’ve been hearing and seeing more tech companies making strides to make technology greener and be more environmentally friendly. However, very few have followed through with grassroots efforts and tangible products which help them progress in their goals. At their recent next@acer, Acer announced a new sub-brand that would focus on driving their efforts in becoming a greener company – the Vero. The Acer Vero sub-brand is only one of their efforts in progressing what they call the Earthion (Earth Mission) of bettering the environment and producing technology more responsibly.

Acer announced its new Aspire Vero in Malaysia today. However, before we talk about the tech, it would be remiss of us to not highlight their efforts in bringing their Earthion closer to fruition in Malaysia. The company has adopted 15 trees in the Taman Tugu – a green lung in the nation’s capital. However, it’s not just about adopting trees, Acer is also bringing their partners and collaborators into the fold. Five of the company’s partners including PIKOM, Team Lugiami, Microsoft and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia have pledged their support for Acer’s Earthion.

Creating the Opportunity to Choose Responsible Technology

The company views the Aspire Vero as a crucial part of achieving its Earthion. The new laptop affords consumers a more responsible choice when it comes to buying laptops. The Aspire Vero incorporates post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in its chassis and keycaps. In fact, the chassis is 30% PCR plastics while the keycaps are made of 50% PCR plastics. While it would have been nice to see Acer raise the bar higher, limitations on processes and technology when it comes to recycling these plastics force the company to still use virgin plastics for the sake of rigidity and sturdiness. However, Acer’s Aspire Vero accounts for a significant reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during production. Each unit accounts for a 21% reduction. The packaging of the Acer Aspire Vero keeps in line with the environmentally cautious nature of the lineup being made of up to 85% recycled paper pulp and using soy ink exclusively for printing.

So, what does an environmentally cautious laptop look like? Acer has intentionally made the Acer Aspire Vero take a very nature-inspired approach to texture and design. It makes the Vero both unique and functional. What’s more, the laptop isn’t sacrificing much when it comes to performance. It comes with a 15.6-inch IPS Display with Full HD resolution. The panel itself is 99% recyclable. It’s powered by Intel’s 11th generation Core processors and has up to 16GB of RAM. It also takes advantage of Intel’s Iris Xe Graphics making it capable of some graphical prowess. It comes with 512GB of storage.

When it comes to connectivity, the Acer Aspire Vero comes with support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also has a full array of ports including an HDMI, two USB 3.2 ports, 1 USB Type-C, an Ethernet port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also has an HD webcam and a claimed 7-hour battery life.

Pricing & Availability

The Acer Aspire Vero will be available starting 11th November 2021. The i5 version will be priced at MYR3,399 while the i7 version will be priced at MYR4,299.

In conjunction with the launch, early adopters will be entitled to freebies worth up to MYR500 with every purchase. In addition, MYR100 of each unit sold will be chanelled to fund more tree adoptions in Taman Tugu.

[next@acer] Acer’s Vero Line-Up – Made for Humanity, Made for Sustainability

Sustainable is a bigger thing today than ever before. The drive to consciously limit your carbon footprint. It is more than just about reducing your own carbon footprint though. It is also about making decisions to use products and from brands that are limiting their carbon footprint. In the world of electronics though, waste is almost inevitable.

But living sustainably and responsibly goes further than just buying products that creates a smaller carbon footprint also. It is about understanding a cycle. It is about understanding that each item you use will produce waste. It is about understanding where these waste items go to or reusing the waste in a different form. In the case of the Acer Vero line-up, it is about using one of the largest and most damaging waste items since the World War II era and repurposing the materials in new products that looks like no other.

The benefit of using mostly plastics for its construction is weight, or rather, the lack of it. The Aspire Vero weighs only 1.8kg. Its included packaging can also be repurposed as a laptop stand. At the same time, the lightweight high-quality recycled plastic body is designed to be easily removed for future serviceability and repair.

The Veriton Vero Mini is designed to be placed in environments where space is an absolute premium as well. At the same time, it is designed to blend with any environment it is put into and still remain functional at the same time.

For that, the Windows 11 mini PC comes with Intel’s latest Core vPro processors to ensure that the Veriton Vero Mini is capable of handling all sorts of workloads you might require of it. You can spec it with up to 64GB in RAM too to ensure that your multitask workflow remains smooth and reliable. It is not meant to handle 3D workloads though, since it is only relying on Intel’s integrated graphics platform. You can opt for up to 2TB in HDD storage, or up to 1TB in SSD space, or both. At the same time, you get Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity with the Veriton Vero Mini for maximum flexibility in its placement.

The Veriton Vero Mini’s chassis is made of 25% recycled plastics too, which explains its unique design. Because of the plastic construction also, it only weighs 1.3 kg, which would mean that you can mount it almost anywhere without a fuss.

Of course, any work environment with the Acer Veriton Vero Mini is not complete without a monitor to match. The display must be on theme as well with the Veriton Vero. It must be made of the same materials to match the unique look that only the Vero series can offer. That is the Acer Vero BR277.

The Acer Vero BR277 is Acer’s first sustainable market monitor. It is also probably most sustainable product from Acer. Half its chassis is made of recycled plastics. That is pretty amazing considering that the Full HD monitor can offer the same motions as the regular monitors. You can tilt it, swivel it, adjust its heights to a comfortable level, and pivot it to your heart’s content, or rather your preferred use case. All that while remaining mostly plastic.

27-inch IPS panel boasts 4ms in response time and 75Hz in refresh rate. It clearly is not a gaming monitor for the power users. It does offer 72% NTSC colour gamut though, which is accurate enough in most use cases. While it does not offer more than 6-bit (16.7 million colours), it will still be a good enough monitor in most industrial use cases too.

It is not Acer’s special dessert. The Macaron Vero Mouse is an actual electronic mouse that is meant to be used with your PC products. Of course, because it is a Vero product, it is made of sustainable materials. It is mostly made of recycled plastic that also contributes to its unique look.

The Vero mouse is also made to complete the look and feel of the Vero series. It is made to match the Vero laptops and even the Veriton Vero Mini if you want it to. It is just a regular wireless mouse that is made to complete the whole Vero look though.

[Next@Acer 2021] Acer Commits to Sustainability with new Aspire Vero

Acer’s taken a unique approach in embarking on their journey to become a more sustainable company. The company announced their “Earthion” – a hybrid of Earth and Mission – to become a sustainable company from operations to production. As part of their Earthion, the company has become a part of RE100, a global corporate effort in which member companies aim to become fully sustainable by relying fully on renewable energy. Acer has pledged to fulfill this target by 2035.

Aspire Vero for a Sustainable Future

Pledges and promises aside, the company’s Earthion took physical form with the announcement of the Acer Aspire Vero. The Aspire Vero is Acer’s first sustainable laptop made of post-consumer recycled plastics (PCRs). The PCRs are used primarily in the keyboard caps and surfaces of the laptop. They make up 50% of the keycaps while other surfaces of the chassis are made up of about 30% PCRs. In addition to this, the Aspire Vero comes in packaging that is made of up to 85% recycled paper pulp while plastics usually used to carry components like the power cord have been replaced by paper bags. Printing on the packaging and documention utilises soy ink as well to minimise environmental impact.

With its focus on sustainability, the Vero comes with the latest generation of Intel Core processors which promises longer battery life. Acer claims that this will provide over 11 hours of battery life. The Vero comes with Intel’s integrated Xe graphics which has been proven to be a performer – at least when it comes to integrated graphics systems. It also comes with a 15.6-inch IPS Full HD display. It comes with upto 1TB of SSD memory. The Aspire Vero isn’t making users choose between connectivity and being sustainable. It comes fully equipped with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
