For all the convenience that a smart home offers, managing one often involves juggling multiple apps to figure out if you locked the front door or turned off the thermostat. Samsung is aggressively streamlining that experience by bringing its popular Now Brief feature directly into the living room. Originally introduced on the Galaxy smartphone lineup, Now Brief uses artificial intelligence to generate personalised, context-aware information summaries. With the latest SmartThings update, Samsung is expanding this capability directly to its smart TVs and home appliances, effectively turning your biggest screens into proactive command centres.

The core of this update is making critical home data immediately glanceable. When integrated with SmartThings, Now Brief surfaces relevant alerts from connected devices—such as security camera feeds, smart lock statuses, and home energy usage—as concise, easy-to-read cards. The system is designed to be entirely frictionless; if configured in advance, the interface will automatically pop up the moment you approach your compatible television or open the door of a supported refrigerator.
Beyond simple home automation, Samsung is leaning heavily into health and wellness monitoring through significant upgrades to its Family Care and Pet Care services. Family Care, which provides insights into the daily activities of ageing parents or care recipients, can now actively remind caregivers about upcoming hospital visits and medication schedules. To make check-ins even more seamless, a new “Care on Call” feature integrates directly with your Galaxy phone’s calling interface. When you call a family member enrolled in the system, a pop-up appears on your screen displaying their first activity of the day, recent appliance usage, and local weather conditions, giving you immediate context to improve the conversation.

The update also introduces a highly innovative safety feature that repurposes your standard cleaning appliances. The enhanced Safety Patrol function allows modern robot vacuums equipped with cameras, like the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra, to double as mobile wellness monitors. Using advanced computer vision, the vacuum can actively recognise if a person has fallen on the floor and needs assistance. If an emergency is detected, it alerts a remote user and activates its built-in microphone and loudspeaker to establish a two-way communication line, essentially transforming the vacuum into a potential lifeline.
This sweeping SmartThings integration represents a clear shift toward a smart home that actively anticipates your needs rather than just waiting for your commands. The new Now Brief features will begin arriving on Samsung smart TVs launched in 2024 or later in a phased rollout, alongside Family Hub refrigerators launched from 2021 onwards.
