China Literature and Singapore’s Top Two Universities Launch Platform to Nurture Passionate Young Authors

The online literature platform teams up with National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University to launch Global Author Incubation Project 2022, a platform designed to cultivate budding writers

CGTN: World gathers for 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing

BEIJING, Feb. 5, 2022 — The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games was held at the National Stadium in Beijing on Friday night.

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the Winter Games open after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach delivered a speech.

"This Year of the Tiger is also an Olympic Year," Bach said. "Both the Year of the Tiger and the Olympic Tiger stand for ambition, courage and strength. Today, thanks to this ambition, China is a winter sport country. Well over 300 million people are engaged in winter sports in about 2,000 ski resorts and ice rinks."

"Dear athletes," he added, "We are all standing with you. We are all supporting you. We are all cheering you on."

Zhang Yimou, who’s behind the epic opening ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008, was again the chief director for the 2022 Winter Games opening ceremony. Snowflakes were at the heart of his central idea for Friday night’s show, which featured them in two programs. The lighting of the Olympic flame also carried the same motif.

"Different snowflakes come to Beijing and assemble into a giant snowflake of humankind," Zhang said of his concept for the opening ceremony in an interview with China Media Group (CMG).

Delegations from over 90 countries and regions attended the ceremony, together with world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Argentine President Alberto Fernández, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres among others.

As part of the Olympic tradition, members of Team Greece were the first to enter the stadium during the parade of athletes, followed by Team Turkey. As the host of the Winter Olympics, Team China were the last to march. Speed skater Gao Tingyu and skeleton athlete Zhao Dan carried the Chinese national flag for the squad.

At the end of the ceremony, the Olympic Cauldron was lit at the center of the stadium by the torch that had passed through the hands of some 1,200 torchbearers, including Bach himself, during a three-day relay in the three competition zones of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.

In the following 16 days, some 2,900 athletes will compete in 109 events of 15 disciplines under seven sports at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

CGTN: China, Russia vow to turn mutual trust into cooperation in various fields

BEIJING, Feb. 5, 2022China is celebrating the Chinese New Year and under a global gaze as it hosts the Winter Olympics, and the ChinaRussia relationship is also in the spotlight as Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a visit to Beijing on Friday.

 

Nearly three years after Putin’s last visit to China, the trip featured the 38th meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Russian president since 2013.

During the meeting, the two heads of state vowed to turn mutual trust between the two countries into cooperation in all fields.

Close communication maintained

Noting his attendance at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi at the invitation of Putin, Xi said that they promised to meet again in Beijing eight years later.

"Your visit this time fulfills our promise," he said, adding that he hopes the meeting at the beginning of spring will inject more vitality into ChinaRussia relations.

"Lichun," the first of the 24 solar terms on Chinese lunar calendar, falls on February 4 this year and it is considered the beginning of spring.

Putin said the exchange of visits at the Olympics is a symbol and a good tradition of close relations between the two countries’ heads of state.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped me from maintaining close exchanges with President Xi in various ways," he said.

After the talks, Xi hosted a banquet for Putin and the two leaders attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Promoting all-round practical cooperation 

China and Russia will strengthen their strategic partnership in energy, steadily advance major oil and gas cooperation projects, and advance cooperation of scientific and technological innovation in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and the International Lunar Research Station project, according to Xi.

The Chinese president also highlighted the promotion of bilateral cooperation in goods and services, agriculture, green trade, medicine and health, and the digital economy.

Russia is ready to deepen cooperation with China in economy and trade, energy, science and technology, finance and transportation, Putin said.

Meanwhile, the two leaders agreed to jointly announce the Years of Sports Exchanges between China and Russia.

The two countries also signed a series of cooperation documents in key fields.

Strengthening coordination in international affairs

Xi stressed China and Russia’s commitment to deepening back-to-back strategic coordination in the face of profound and complex changes in the international situation, and highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination with Russia within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.

Noting the joint statement on international relations in the new era and global sustainable development issued at the meeting, Putin said that it reflected the highly consistent position of Russia and China on major international issues.

Russia is ready to further strengthen strategic communication and coordination with China, firmly support each other in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly uphold the central coordinating role of the United Nations, he added.

Boqii Holding Limited Receives NYSE Non-Compliance Letter Regarding ADS Trading Price

SHANGHAI, Jan. 29, 2022 — Boqii Holding Limited ("Boqii" or the "Company") (NYSE: BQ), a leading pet-focused platform in China, today announced that it has received a letter from the New York Stock Exchange (the "NYSE") dated January 26, 2022, notifying the Company that it is below the compliance criteria due to the trading price of the Company’s American depositary shares (the "ADSs").

Pursuant to NYSE Rule 802.01C, a company is considered to be below compliance criteria if the average closing price of a security as reported on the consolidated tape is less than US$1.00 over a consecutive 30 trading-day period. Once notified, the company must bring its share price and average share price back above US$1.00 within six months following receipt of the notification. The company can regain compliance at any time during the six-month cure period if on the last trading day of any calendar month during the cure period the company has a closing share price of at least US$1.00 and an average closing share price of at least US$1.00 over the 30 trading-day period ending on the last trading day of that month. In the event that at the expiration of the six-month cure period, both a US$1.00 closing share price on the last trading day of the cure period and a US$1.00 average closing share price over the 30 trading-day period ending on the last trading day of the cure period are not attained, the NYSE will commence suspension and delisting procedures.

To address this issue, the Company intends to continuously monitor the market conditions of its ADSs and is considering its options to regain compliance.

Bilibili Awards Top 100 Content Creators of 2021

New selection criteria bring diversity to the awards; pan-knowledge content creators surge on Bilibili

SHANGHAI, Jan. 22, 2022 — Bilibili hosted the "BILIBILI POWER UP 2021" Top 100 Content Creators Award Ceremony virtually on Jan 21, 2022, to celebrate and award the outstanding achievements of leading content creators in various categories.

Bilibili introduced the new criteria for the awards selection this year: professionality, influence, and innovation. Awarded Uploaders exemplify these dimensions in many ways. Some Uploaders, who are experts in their professional realms, actively share their knowledge through videos. Graphic designer oooooohmygosh explains complicated designing theories through vivid animation. Some Uploaders’ videos went viral on the Chinese internet in 2021 and made a positive social impact. For example, Uploader Cai Qian made replicas of the golden mask and rod found at the Sanxingdui Ruins, inspiring many Chinese young people to learn about the archaeological discovery.

As Bilibili users have shown growing interest in pan-knowledge content over the past year, more Uploaders who create knowledge-related content joined the Top 100 list. Marine geologist and member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Pinxian, became a Bilibili Uploader in June 2021, attracting over 1.35 million followers in just half a year. Battles on Sand Tables uses a 3D sand table to recreate the progression of iconic historical battles. Erersuansuan, a Peking University student, amassed over 1.4 million followers by using cute, animated videos to share tips on how to improve learning efficiency. As of 2021, pan-knowledge content views accounted for 45% of total Bilibili video views. 190 million users are watching pan-knowledge videos on Bilibili, 5 times the number of current university students in China.

More international Uploaders have also joined the Top 100 list, as their talent and expertise keep winning the hearts of Bilibili users. South Korean a cappella group MayTree joined Bilibili in April 2021, and now has over 2 million followers. Their video imitating the sound effects of the game Plants vs. Zombies using just their voices has received nearly 16 million views on Bilibili. American animator Alan Becker joined Bilibili in 2020 and now has over 1 million followers. His videos are especially attractive to the passionate anime lovers on the platform. German fitness creator Pamela Reif has made the list for two consecutive years. "I am grateful that I took the step to create and post videos for my Chinese fitness community," said Reif in her video speech after winning the award.

Three V-UPs (virtual live streamers) including Lingyuan yousa and hanser from Bilibili’s virtual live streamers project VirtuaReal, and Jia Ran from Chinese virtual idol group ASOUL all made the 2021 list. V-UP is the fastest growing category of Bilibili’s livestreaming business. From June 2020 to June 2021, more than 32,000 V-UPs joined Bilibili, a year-over-year (YOY) increase of 40%. 560 million bullet chats were sent during the livestreams of V-UPs, a YOY increase of 100%. Videos uploaded by V-UPs reached 1.89 million and increased 50% YOY, and these videos received 8.3 billion views, a 70% YOY increase.

Bilibili continues to provide incentives and commercial opportunities to encourage its Uploaders to make more high-quality videos. As of Q3 2021, over 480,000 Uploaders have benefited from the Creator Incentive Plan. In August 2020, Bilibili launched the Sparkle platform, which connects brands and agencies with content creators. The platform saw the number of new Uploaders increase 770% YOY, and the number of new brands increase 20-fold only one year after its launch. 75% of brands chose to work with Bilibili Uploaders more than once.

According to its 2021 Q3 financial report, Bilibili has 2.7 million monthly active Uploaders, a YOY increase of 61%. Average monthly video submissions hit a milestone of 10 million and increased 80% YOY. Uploaders with over 10,000 followers increased 42% YOY.

This year marks the fourth year for Bilibili to hold the Top 100 Content Creators Award Ceremony. Being an "Uploader" is a new occupation that is widely recognized by today’s society.
