Instagram Revamps Notes with Prompts, Likes, and Mentions, Making it More Interactive

Gone are the days of one-way announcements on Notes. Now, users can leverage “Prompts” to initiate conversations and invite friends to share their thoughts. Imagine asking a question like “Favorite summer movie?” or “Beach day essentials?” and seeing your friends respond with their picks directly within the Notes section. This fosters a sense of community and encourages deeper interaction beyond likes and comments on traditional posts.

But the party doesn’t stop there. Notes now supports likes, allowing users to express their approval without leaving a full comment. This simple addition makes engagement on Notes quicker and easier, perfect for situations where a double-tap conveys all you need to say.

Furthermore, the introduction of “@ mentions” empowers users to directly tag their friends in Notes. This personal touch can be used to spark discussions, share inside jokes, or simply get someone’s attention about a specific topic.

With these new features, Instagram is clearly aiming to make Notes a more dynamic and engaging space. While it may not replace the dominance of Stories and posts, the revamped Notes offer a unique way for users to connect and share fleeting thoughts or ideas in a more interactive format. This caters especially to younger demographics who thrive on quick and casual communication.

It remains to be seen how widely adopted these changes will be, but one thing’s for sure: Instagram is actively evolving Notes to keep users engaged and foster a more interactive platform. So next time you have a quick thought to share, consider using Notes and see how the new features spark conversations with your friends.

From Pixels to Primetime: Minecraft Blocks its Way to Netflix

The trend of video game adaptations continues to gain momentum, with the iconic sandbox phenomenon Minecraft being the latest to join the ranks. Buckle up, block-loving fans, because an animated Minecraft series is officially in the works at Netflix!

Screenshot 2024 06 01 at 01 36 51 Minecraft Series Official Announcement Netflix

This exciting announcement comes hot on the heels of successful video game adaptations like Netflix’s own “The Witcher” and “Arcane” on the same platform. It seems the lines between gaming and mainstream entertainment are blurring faster than a Steve sprinting away from a Creeper.

Minecraft, developed by Mojang Studios and acquired by Microsoft in 2014, boasts a unique, blocky aesthetic and a focus on creativity and exploration. It’s no surprise this beloved title has captivated players for over a decade, selling a staggering 238 million copies as of 2023.

The upcoming Netflix series will be an original story featuring new characters, all set within the familiar world of Minecraft. The animation will be handled by WildBrain, the studio behind popular shows like “Carmen Sandiego” and “Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.” Details about the plot, characters, and release date are still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: this is a major move for the Minecraft franchise and a potential game-changer for the animated series landscape.

However, not everyone is celebrating with a bucket of lava and a diamond pickaxe. Some have expressed concerns about the timing of this announcement. Minecraft’s core audience skews younger, and some viewers worry that a Netflix series might not capture the essence of a game known for its open-ended creativity and player-driven experiences.

Despite the concerns, the potential of a Minecraft series is undeniable. In the right hands, it could introduce a whole new generation of players to the joys of building, exploring, and battling creepers. Only time will tell if this adaptation lives up to the hype, but one thing’s for certain: the blocky world of Minecraft is about to take centre stage on Netflix.

Spotify Hits the Gas on Android App Icon Fix While Stepping on the Brakes for Car Thing

Spotify users have experienced a mixed bag of news lately. On the positive side, the long-standing issue with the Android app icon has finally been addressed. On the flip side, the controversial Car Thing gadget has met its demise, leaving some users frustrated and out of pocket.

A Cleaner Look for Android Users

For years, Android users have contended with a Spotify app icon that sported a black border around the familiar green logo. This design choice, intended for compatibility with older icon formats, resulted in an aesthetically awkward look on many modern Android devices.

Spotify Primary Logo RGB Green png 92

Thankfully, Spotify has listened to user feedback and rolled out an update that ditches the black border. This means the green logo now seamlessly fills the entire app icon space, offering a cleaner and more consistent visual experience for Android users. This update applies to both themed and unthemed icons, although themed versions might not integrate as flawlessly with other app icons, especially in light mode.

Car Thing Cruises Off the Road with Refunds

While the Android app icon fix is a welcome change, the news surrounding the Car Thing isn’t as rosy. Launched in 2021, the Car Thing was a voice-controlled device designed to enhance the Spotify experience in your car. However, it faced criticism for its limited functionality and lack of support for features like podcasts or music from other streaming services.

Car Thing Hand On Dial 2 1100x825 1

In a recent announcement, Spotify confirmed that the Car Thing will no longer be produced or sold. It has since walked back on its nonchalant announcement about bricking existing units. Instead, the company is now saying that existing users will receive a full refund, acknowledging the disappointment this news may have caused. The company hasn’t explicitly stated the reasons behind this discontinuation, but the lukewarm reception and niche appeal likely played a role.

However, it seems like there may be more to the refunds than meets the eye. As reported by Billboard, it seems like a group of disgruntled Car Thing users have filed a lawsuit against Spotify for the abrupt discontinuation. It looks like the lawsuit is looking to become a class action lawsuit against the company. Since the filing, users who are able to provide proof of purchase have been given refunds.

The Car Thing’s demise has sparked discussions about Spotify’s future plans for in-car entertainment. Some see it as a missed opportunity, suggesting Spotify could have addressed user concerns and refined the product. Others speculate that Spotify might be focusing resources on alternative in-car solutions, potentially through partnerships with car manufacturers or deeper integration with existing infotainment systems.

Looking Forward: A Balanced Approach

While Spotify deserves credit for finally addressing the Android app icon issue, the Car Thing situation leaves some questions unanswered. It’s a clear sign that Spotify is re-evaluating its in-car strategy. Whether the company will pursue a different in-car solution or focus solely on app improvements remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: Spotify must balance addressing user frustrations and strategically allocating resources for future endeavours.

The WHO Collaborating Center on Digital Health, the first of its kind in the Western Pacific region, plays a pivotal role in supporting WHO initiatives. It spearheads digital health information exchange, scientific research, and international standard development, while also providing technical training to member countries.

This strategic partnership, officially launched at the UN’s AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, unites the strengths of both entities. DAMO Academy and the WHO Collaborating Center will collaborate on research and provide expert guidance in the fields of digital health, AI, and industrial development, ultimately supporting organizations like the WHO and the International Telecommunication Union.

An Inherently Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Pioneering Multi-Cancer Early Detection with AI

DAMO Academy’s medical AI team is at the forefront of exploring cost-effective and efficient methods for multi-cancer screening using AI technology. This ongoing research, conducted in collaboration with leading global medical institutions, has yielded significant progress. Their AI model demonstrates exceptional promise in detecting seven common cancers, including pancreatic, oesophagal, lung, breast, liver, gastric, and colorectal, all from a single CT scan.

Sharp Brings Latest Plasmacluster Ion Products to Malaysia

Sharp is no stranger to home and living products. The company boasts a long history of manufacturing and innovating in the home and living technology segment. What’s more, its Plasmacluster Ion (PCI) technology alone has been headlining its products for about 24 years now after being introduced at the turn of the millennium.

Improved Plasmacluster Ion Technology

The Plasmacluster ion technology brings along with it a whole suite of benefits that make it one of the industry-leading technologies when it comes to purification and preservation. This year, Sharp is upping the ante by introducing improvements to the technology that makes it even more compelling than before. Plasmacluster Ion products are now getting labelled with three different PCI labels: High Density 7000 (Copper), High Density 25000 (Silver), and NEXT 50000 (White). Each label indicates the speed at which PCI is able to neutralise airborne pathogens and purify the air. The new NEXT certification comes with the guarantee of being able to clear the air in a mere 9 minutes.

Sharp PCI Launch 5

Plasmacluster Ion technology works by injecting charged hydrogen and oxygen ions derived from hydrolysed water molecules into the surrounding space. These charged ions will then react with the protective layers of bacteria, moulds and viruses exposing vital structures and neutralising them. In application, this helps reduce the density of harmful microbes which help preserve food and manage allergens. Sharp shares that its PCI technology is able to reduce the density of the Alpha variant of COVID-19 by up to 95% and help manage allergies by reducing the density of allergens.

New Generation PureFit Air Purifiers

Sharp’s new generation of PureFit Air Purifiers is leading the charge when it comes to the new generation of Plasmacluster Ion products. The new air purifiers are designed with simplicity in mind. The minimalist, functional design has also earned Sharp the much coveted iF Design award in 2021.

Sharp PCI Launch 4

The lineup consisting of two variants, the Sharp PureFit and PureFit Mini, are built specifically to cater to different-sized rooms. The PureFit can effectively purify rooms of up to 84m2 or 900 sqft while the Mini can do the same in rooms of up to 30m2 or 330sqft.

Sharp PCI Launch

The PureFit series is able to provide effective purification thanks to its dual airflow system with three layers of filtration. It also comes with HEPA filtration to eliminate up to 99.8% of impurities and microbes as small as 0.02 microns. The PureFit series spearheads Sharp’s extensive air-purifer lineup which also includes a version with a mosquito catcher to help keep mosquitoes and dengue at bay.

New Generation Plasmacluter Ion Appliances

Together with the new generation air purifiers, Sharp is also incorporating its latest Plasmacluster ion technology into other product categories. This includes its washer-dryers and refridgerators. The new Sharp Pro-Flex washer-dryer comes with a dry airwash mode which injects Plasmacutter Ions to sanitise and clean garments without water. It also incorporates the PCI technology when washing and drying for a cleaner wash.

Sharp PCI Launch 3

Sharp is also incorporating it into its refridgerators to help keep food fresher for longer. Sharp claims that PCI technology helps destroy mould, bacteria and other harmful microbes that cause food decay. This combined with the AG Nano deodouriser keeps food fresh and the refridgerator smelling clean for longer.
