We’ve found the Planful consolidation and reporting solutions to be intuitive and with the level of support and engagement from RSM UK and Planful, we expect to further reduce our close process time and are excited to expand to additional Planful use cases."

Adobe Teases the Camera Raw on the Apple iPad’s Photoshop App

The Apple iPad has really come into its own in the world of content creation today. It has become one of the go to or must have tools in a remote production set up to quickly get at least photos edited and uploaded quickly. Adobe’s Photoshop app on the iPad is mostly the weapon of choice in that matter. Adobe’s Photoshop for iPad is one of the most powerful photo editing tools you can find on a mobile device, just short of laptops.

It has just become even more powerful though with the added ability to edit RAW files. This not only includes Apple’s ProRAW file format. You can even edit photos in DNG formats from other proper DSLR type cameras if need be.

While you might not see value in taking photos in RAW and editing them on your mobile device, there are good reasons why you want your photos taken and post edited in RAW. For one, RAW photos usually will take full advantage of your camera’s full dynamic capabilities. If you are using your smartphone to take RAW photos, you can even take advantage of its full sensor size. In terms of post editing, there are a lot more manipulation you can do with RAW photos, down to the granular details.

Now you have that ability to edit RAW photos on-the-go with the Apple iPad thanks to the Camera Raw ability on the Adobe Photoshop software. Camera Raw is a known plugin for Adobe’s suite to add RAW decoding capabilities. It gives even Adobe’s Lightroom the ability to open and edit RAW photos.

That also means you have a greater control over photos on your iPad. You can now turn your iPad into a professional photo editing station, and you do not even need a PC to work on your photos now. There is small caveat here though.

How to Transfer Camera Raw Images to Photoshop on the iPad | Adobe Photoshop

The new function is not actually available for current Apple iPad users. Adobe says that the function will be ‘coming soon’, whatever that means. They managed to showcase and tease the power of the Adobe Photoshop on an iPad with Camera Raw capabilities too on YouTube. This feature is also announced ahead of Adobe’s Max 2021 conference, so we may be able to expect the function to come to Apple iPad devices, especially the iPad Pro with m1 chips after the fact. For now, we can only wait.

Aidrivers provides artificial intelligence-enabled solutions for retrofitting into new and existing vehicles including trucks and cranes so they can be operated autonomously in mixed traffic environments without any infrastructure upgrade. The company has offices in London, Singapore, India, China and Turkey, as well as joint ventures with vehicle and logistics organisations in Europe and Asia Pacific.

During the visit, Boris Johnson met Aidrivers’ founder Dr Rafiq Swash and was shown how the technology works. The Prime Minister also tried the technology, operating simulated autonomous port vehicles using Aidrivers’ digital twin.

Aidrivers helps fleet operators in industrial settings such as ports, airports, smart cities and warehouses to maximise their efficiency. It reduces waste by minimising idle-engine time, for example, and allows fleet operators to work 24/7 at optimum energy efficiency, enhancing the resilience of global supply chains. Aidrivers software is used in Singapore, China and Turkey, and the company is committed to providing autonomous mobility solutions that meet industry needs when it comes to sustainability, resilience and safety.

Founded in 2018, Aidrivers today employs 60 people, with the majority working from London. It expects to continue to grow rapidly in response to market need. Many brownfield port terminals, for example, are affected by a shortage of skilled labour and are looking to implement effective autonomous automation to continuously meet the requirements of global supply chains.

Dr Swash said: "We were honoured to receive a visit today from our Prime Minister Boris Johnson and it was a pleasure to show him our cutting-edge technology, which is being used in demanding industrial applications around the world to help make supply chains more resilient and sustainable. His visit recognises the positive impact Aidrivers is having in terms of creating jobs for the new economy, meeting the need of fleet operators to reduce harmful emissions, and helping society and industry become sustainable."

GrabPay Gets More Secure

GrabPay is arguably one of the largest eWallets in Malaysia. Now a crucial component of Grab’s “SuperApp”, it’s the primary means of racking up GrabRewards points and paying for services. That said, it’s also one of the features that requires the most user information. As such, it comes as a welcomed update that GrabPay is getting more features to ensure data safety. The announcement is a timely given the rise of the number of cyber security incidents in the past week.

The GrabPay eWallet has been enhanced with multi-layer security features. These features are touted to enhance the security of real-time transactions that are done on the platform. As a first layer of defence, GrabPay has been fortified with two factor authentication (2FA). This measure will ensure that logging in is more secured. All users will need to setup their 2FA with a GrabPay PIN. In addition to the PIN, users will also be able to use biometric authentication as well. This means you can use facial recognition and fingerprint authentication on supported devices.

GrabPay Security
Source: Grab Malaysia

In addition to 2FA, Grab has adopted AI technologies to help with fraud protection. They have implemented machine learning and AI that monitors user account activity. These algorithms will detect any anomalous activity and flag it as potential fraud. Once flagged, it will lockdown the account for further action. Grab is also working with internationally recognised security systems that will also assist and verify detection to ensure that transactions are genuine.

This AI integration is complemented by privacy and security policies. Grab states that any information pertaining to GrabPay transactions is secured. Payment, transaction, credit card and account information are all kept under lock and key. These policies are compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). GrabPay as a platform is also regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

The last component of their security, according to Grab, is a strong customer service arm. Grab has made information readily available on their Help Center. Grab is touting its Help Center as a key educational tool for users to learn about GrabPay and also self serve solutions for common issues. If the help center isn’t sufficient, users are able to access live customer support through the Grab application.

With these steps and mechanisms in place, Grab is ensuring users that their data and transactions will be private and secure. So, you can use GrabPay with peace of mind.

OPPO Steps Closer to Stock Android With Global ColorOS 12

OPPO’s ColorOS has always been about customisability and self-expression. The company’s latest iteration: ColorOS 12 is no different but it does take a load off when it comes to OPPO’s visual customizations of the Android OS. OPPO said that the company’s decision to jump from ColorOS8 to 11 to match Android’s version number is a literal alignment of the OS with Android.

ColorOS is maturing as an OS. With ColorOS 12, the company is fine-tuning its approach to be able to adapt to multiple languages and layouts better than ever before. OPPO says the main theme of ColorOS this time around is “Inclusivity” and that changes made to the OS this round were mainly focused on catering to their 440 million users across 68 countries.

Source: OPPO

The biggest difference you will see in the approach is a reduction in OPPO apps and the use of many stock Android apps. The company has decided to reduce redundancy in its offerings by using Android’s built-in phone and messaging app and integrating more of Android’s built-in features for the new take on ColorOS. The company has “decoupled” the experience to allow users access to their own apps via an optional download from their app store.

Back to Basics with a Focus on Customization & Usability

However, that doesn’t mean that OPPO is leaving its own features to the wayside. Their approach to the design of the new iteration of ColorOS builds on their Infinite Design concept which carries forward from 11. Visually, the OS looks cleaner with more modern icons. On the backend, OPPO has optimised the OS to use a fraction of the resources it used before. ColorOS 12 sees a reduction of 30% of memory usage and 20% battery consumption – making it the most efficient ColorOS to date.

The efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of personalization. In fact, the latest iteration of ColorOS may be the most customizable yet. OPPO has enhanced customisation with more themes, icons and fonts in its theming engine. In addition, the company has also been working on optimising the OS further to be more intuitive and easier to use.

ColorOS 12 is focusing on the essentials. Instead of focusing on gimmicky features, OPPO has been working on enhancing more usable features like PC connect, FlexDrop and Phone Manager which allow users to have a more seamless experience across multiple devices. OPPO’s approach to providing a more seamless experience between phone and PC brings features like drag and drop, screen mirroring and even seamless file transfer between PC and phone. PC Connect only works with Windows for now.

OPPO is also focusing on device security. The company’s new OS brings Android’s privacy and security features front and centre. The OS makes features like Privacy Dashboard more accessible and comes with a better-optimised experience when to Approximate Location Sharing and Microphone and Camera Indicators. The company is also enhancing the security of their OS with in-house features such as private system, private safe, and app lock.

Open to Developers

OPPO is also committing to be open when it comes to the development of ColorOS. The company is making its camera SDKs openly available to developers moving forward. These SDKs will make some of the company’s best camera features such as Ultra Steady Video Shooting, HDR, and Super Wide-Angle available to developers.

OPPO Update

Timely Update Schedule

OPPO is committing to updating its devices consistently moving forward. This applies to devices released from 2019 onwards. Their flagship Find X series will be getting three major Android updates. The mid-range Reno, F- and higher-end A-series devices will be getting two major updates. Lower end devices will be getting a single Android update. According to the company, the single update is due to the lower memory specifications of lower-end A-Series models.

In addition to major updates, OPPO’s Find X series will also be getting four years of security updates. The Reno, F-, and A-series will be updated for three years.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12, 2021 — Intento, the leading AI integration platform, has released its annual State of Machine Translation report, giving those working in and around the MT landscape an in-depth analysis of the current vendors and best strategies to successfully leverage their offerings. The report is conducted in collaboration with TAUS, the central authority in language data, offering the largest industry-shared repository of data, deep know-how in language engineering, and a network of Human Language Project workers around the globe. You can download the report here.

The 2021 edition delivers everything you need to know to choose the best-fit MT engines for your language pair and industry sector. It provides:

  • The performance of different MT engines across 7 industries (Education, Finance, Healthcare, Hospitality, Legal, Entertainment, and General) and 13 language key pairs.
  • The latest data on 24 commercial MT engines (Alibaba eCommerce and General, Amazon, Apptek, Baidu, DeepL, Elia, Globalese, Google, GTCom, IBM Watson, Microsoft, ModernMT, Naver, Kawamura / NICT, Pangeanic, PROMT, Rozetta, Systran, Tilde, Tencent, Yandex, Youdao, and XL8)
  • Along with 5 open-source pre-trained models (M2M-100-1.2B, M2M-100-418M, mBART50-EN2M, mBART50-M2M, and OpusMT)
  • The principal scores to rely on when studying MT outcomes, such as similarity scores (COMET, BERTScore, PRISM, TER, and hLEPOR)
  • A thorough comparison of scores: hLEPOR, BERTScore, PRISM, and COMET.
  • Coverage of language support, which jumped from 16k to 100k language pairs in 2021
  • Price comparisons

This year’s report is chock-full of novel insights and will consist of two parts. First, ‘Automatic semantic similarity scoring’ demonstrates various changes to the MT landscape over the past year, including information on all new players on the market.

The second part will provide a deep-dive linguistic analysis for 3 language pairs (EN → ES, EN → IT, EN → NL). Essential takeaways from this breakdown include:

  • The comparison of texts between 5 industry sectors: Education, Financial, Healthcare, Legal, Travel (ES).
  • Key conclusions on how automatic metrics relate to human estimation of translations.
  • Recommendations on the best-fit MT engines for analyzed language pairs and industry sectors.
  • Insights on how to enhance the power of all MT engines available on the market.

Intento is trusted by global companies to help select, deploy, and improve the best-fit machine translation and other AI services, including sentiment analysis, voice synthesis, image tagging, and optical character recognition. The report aims to provide an expert vision of the constantly-changing MT landscape to save internationally-facing businesses both human and financial capital. A deep comprehension of the MT landscape benefits your company no matter your experience in machine translation, as there are significant insights for implementing AI and machine translation across various departments to boost productivity and growth. Download the report here.

"Working with MT is like living on an erupting volcano. We had 16,000 language pairs available from 34 MT providers just a year ago, and today it’s about 100,000 from 46. We don’t have datasets to evaluate them all, but by working with TAUS we get a look into 13 language pairs and 7 domains," says Konstantin Savenkov, Intento CEO. "The level of quality we see from stock models in 2021 is unprecedented. However, real-world business applications demand even more, and simply knowing the best stock model is not enough to succeed with MT. Make sure you have domain adaptation, glossaries, tone of voice control, and other tools on your belt."

Savenkov continues, "This year, together with TAUS, we had a particular focus on using high-quality domain-specific data. It took more time to prepare, but the results should be relevant to a wider audience and applicable to more use cases than before. One key highlight we see from this year is the emergence of new semantic similarity metrics, such as COMET."

"The availability of high-quality, domain-specific language data powering MT models has become ever so significant as AI-enabled automatic translation becomes more and more common. We are pleased to have offered test datasets in 13 language pairs and 7 domains to Intento to be used in their State of the MT 2021 Report. We believe the findings will shed light on many use cases providing guidance on which MT engines are best suitable for users’ given requirements and above all demonstrate the value of high-quality, domain-specific data in increasing the quality of the final output." Jaap van der Meer, TAUS Director

BenQ Launches the MOBIUZ Ultrawide – Everything a Gamer Needs in One MYR 4,688 Monitor!

If you have been looking for a gaming monitor or even a secondary monitor for your gaming or work from home set up, BenQ will be one of those names that should come up quite often. This brand is one of the most recognisable names in the display market. They are known not only for their value offerings though. They also make very high-end displays that is regarded to be some of the best for the competitive gaming scene. Their Zowie series monitors have been a staple in Counter Strike: Global Offensive international stages, for example.

But some might say that the Zowie series has been built to cater to a niche market segment. In that sense, the Zowie is too purpose built for some. To be fair, it is marketed as such as well with its various technologies that gives its users an added advantage. What if competitive gaming is not what you are looking for. What if you are a casual gamer that enjoys the occasional competitive online gaming, but also enjoys the vast openness of single-player games like the Tomb Raider series? What if you are willing to trade some refresh rate performance for some added features that would save you the trouble of getting extra gear?

Welcome to the MOBIUZ series from BenQ. The BenQ MOBIUZ is really pretty much something made of dreams. The latest EX3415R especially, packs everything that a gamer wants in their AAA gaming PC.

Source: BenQ

If you cannot tell by its codename yet, the MOBIUZ EX3415R is a 34-inch display. It is also an ultra-wide monitor with 21:9 aspect ratio. It boasts 3,440 x 1,440 (WQHD) from its ultrawide panel. Of course, ultrawide also means it must be a little curved for your convenience. It has a pretty shallow 1900R curve, but it is enough for a good immersion for yourself.

At the same time, the IPS panel boasts 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. This is not just a gaming monitor anymore; it is a content creator’s dream set-up. It boasts HDR10 at 1000:1 contrast ratio and VESA DisplayHDR 400 at up to 400nits standards too, which also means that colour grading videos on the MOBIUZ EX3415R should be a piece of cake.

Of course, colour accuracy in a gaming monitor is really more of a bonus feature than its selling point. For a gaming monitor to be a gaming monitor you really want at least 120Hz in refresh rate. This has 144Hz.

You also want it to be a fast-reacting display for not just the best competitive advantage, but for the best immersion as well. The lower the numbers are here, the better. The BenQ Mobiuz EX3415R boasts 1ms MPRT and 2ms Gray-to-Gray response times. That also means that the display reacts almost instantly to any move you make on your joystick or mouse and keyboard. All of that, on top of a tear-free experience that is the AMD FreeSync technology.

For it to be an all-rounder, it now needs a powerful speaker set-up and be a USB hub. This does both of that too. It has two additional USB 3.0 ports so that you can plug in whatever USB devices to it. It also a BenQ treVolo set-up with dual 2W speakers with an additional 5W subwoofer for the widest possible dynamic range and sound staging from a monitor. In that sense, you do not need a headphone or additional speakers for the monitor.

The BenQ MOBIUZ EX3415R 34-inch ultrawide monitor with HDRi will be available for MYR 4,688. You can get your hands on one from their own official online store, Shopee, and Lazada. The eCommerce site quotes a shipping delay of 2-9 days after you order your unit though, so be patient. For this kind of money, you might be able to get yourself a decent TV. The gaming experience that you get from the MOBIUZ EX3415R is unlike any large 4K TVs though.
