Picosun delivers powder MEMS technology platform to Fraunhofer ISIT

ESPOO, Finland, Feb. 17, 2022 — Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (ISIT) has taken PICOSUN® P-300B ALD system into use as their powder MEMS technology platform.

Fraunhofer ISIT PowderMEMS is a new innovative technology for creating three-dimensional microstructures from a multitude of materials on wafer level. The technology is based on bonding together µm-sized powder particles in a cavity with Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). It has many advantages compared to other manufacturing techniques as it allows using much lower process temperatures compared to a traditional sintering process. The bonded porous structures are thermally and chemically resistant thus enabling their extensive post-processing in a clean room.

"The technology can be used for various applications, such as microelectronics, MEMS sensors, MEMS actuators and microfluidics. For example, it enables the integration of porous and magnetic 3D microstructures on wafer level", explains Dr. Björn Gojdka, Group Leader at Fraunhofer ISIT.

Picosun solution is a perfect fit for this need as we are also looking into scaling up the technology. Centred on the theme ‘The Oasis Reborn’, the artworks have been inspired by collaborations with technical and scientific experts and the local community, including artisans and cultural practitioners – giving artists dynamic insights into one of AlUla’s most prominent and storied landscapes. These perspectives have been regularly shared with the public throughout the residency, including 14 workshops & talks, 7 artists public programmes, 12+ site visits and 20+ expert interactions in 11-weeks.

During the three days celebrating the closing of the AlUla Art Residency, a dynamic public programming featured the six prominent artists’ work, through their creation and research, to the AlUla residents and community of experts, giving a fresh look on how to give a new lease of life to the oasis and to make sure it is connected to its fabled history and future legacy.

The final artworks of the engaged artists will be exhibited to the public during the AlUla Arts festival from February 13 to February 26, 2022.

Recalling a past that now seems far away, Rashed AlShashai‘s Thuraya reflects on links between our present — one that is supposedly witnessing unprecedented scientific progress — and the ancient worlds. Through a conceptual approach, the large-scale site specific installation combines the history and the nomenclature of things and the environmental materials of the oasis that dwellers have used to make furniture pieces for daily life.

The Oasis is a Wadi Raised to the Sky developed by Sara Favriau in AlUla takes three forms, three distinct steps corresponding to three related moments: small sculptures "Les Petits Riens" ("Trifles and Trinkets"), a filmed performance "Un jour sans fin" ("A Never-Ending Day") and an installation "Ruban de Möbius" ("Möbius Strip"). These three forms question the notion of garden of the desert, and particularly of the oasis – our planet is a vast garden, after all, and the realms of the human and the animal are one.

Through a process of locating, sharing and collecting narrative, Talin Hazbar‘s Earth Readings explores various relationships between the past and the present, the imperceptible and the material and focuses on map-making and mark-making narratives to embody the materiality and meaning of the land.

Exploring individual, collective and scientific memories, Laura Sellies‘ Peuplé de feuilles qui bougent ("Populated by Moving Leaves") is an installation combining sculptures, sounds and texts. Invoking a palace of memories, these metal structures invite visitors to listen to the voices of the oasis: real or fictional, performed or recorded, voices of women and men, birds, camels, winds, water, rocks, and sand.

As a ritualistic catafalque, Muhannad Shono‘s On this Sacred Day represents the cycle of death and renewal unfolding among the living oasis. From the smoke that rises are stories of comings and goings, loss, and remembrance.

Analysing the oasis as a motherly environment nurturing human presence through time, Sofiane Si Merabet‘s It’s Not Early Anymore establishes a parallel on the recent development of the oasis of AlUla and the excitement around wedding celebrations. Both being rhythmed by seasons and affected by human actions, the idea of celebrations and the lifecycle of the palm tree as observed in the oasis are explored in this multimedia installation.

Waymo and Zeekr to collaborate on all-electric, fully autonomous ride-hailing vehicle

HANGZHOU, China and SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 29, 2021 — Geely Holding Group’s (Geely) premium electric brand, Zeekr, will collaborate with Waymo on the development of a new pure electric vehicle for deployment in the Waymo One autonomous ride-hailing fleet in the United States.

The Program Explained / The plan. 

The new purpose-built mobility vehicle is being designed and developed at Zeekr’s R&D facility, CEVT (China Europe Vehicle Technology Centre) in Gothenburg, Sweden which has a proven track record in developing class leading vehicles for the wider Geely Holding Group. Under this collaboration, Zeekr will be designing and developing the future vehicle on a new proprietary and open-source mobility architecture. Waymo will take delivery of the vehicles in the United States and will then integrate its fully autonomous Waymo Driver into the vehicle platform.

The new vehicle will be designed to be rider-centric from the outset, setting a new benchmark for autonomous vehicles. The new Zeekr vehicle has been designed for autonomous use-cases and will come with a fully configurable cabin, both with and without driver controls, that can be tailored towards rider requirements for the Waymo One unmanned ride-hailing fleet in the US.

Zeekr was founded in early 2021 as a global technology-mobility brand with design and engineering resources in Sweden. The first model from Zeekr, the 001, was introduced in April 2021 with deliveries starting in October of the same year.

CIEF 2021 kicks off, 6,000 plus projects exhibited online and offline (“Empower the Dual Circulation & Boost the New Development,” 2021 CIEF opens)

GUANGZHOU, China, Dec. 11, 2021 — On December 10, the 2021 China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (hereinafter referred to as CIEF) with the theme of "Empower the Dual Circulation & Boost the New Development" kicked off at Pazhou Canton Fair Complex. This three-day CIEF will be held from December 10 to December 12.

2021 CIEF is hosted by China Association for Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, and organized by the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and Asia Data Group. This CIEF features 15 exhibition areas and functional areas. More than 6,000 scientific and technological achievements that are urgently needed by businesses and can be easily commercialized will be displayed offline and online, with a focus on advanced technology and products in high-tech fields such as new infrastructure, intelligent vehicles, next-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, biomedicine and high-end equipment. 20 events such as the forum summit, auction of achievements, technology transfers, and project roadshows will be held simultaneously.

The establishment of the National Offshore Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Overseas Talents in two districts of the same city is a sign that China Association for Science and Technology recognizes Guangzhou’s work on talents and innovation and entrepreneurship. The Base will support Guangzhou Development Zone and Nansha District in attracting overseas talents and technology, as well as in the incubation of innovation and entrepreneurship projects, and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.

Integrate resources and extend the service chain, address "last mile" issue in transactions of achievements

Following six years of development, the CIEF has a better "1+1+N" model for achievement commercialization (namely annual exhibition, one online CIEF platform and "N" regular achievement commercialization bases). The CIEF has set up 66 routine achievement commercialization bases in achievement commercialization institutions, incubators, and science and technology parks, and has established an achievement commercialization and transaction service network that covers the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and extends to the whole nation.

The CIEF will lead more than 50 banks, foundations, venture capital organizations, industry associations, incubators and other related organizations in the field of achievement commercialization and investment and financing to establish China CIEF Achievement Cand Investment and Financing Alliance. The theme of the 2021 CIEF is "enabling double circulation and boosting new development". The CIEF has been committed to accelerating the integration of government, industry, universities, research institutes, and financing, opening up the chain of technological innovation, facilitating localized knowledge production, flow, diffusion, application, and re-generation, and helping to build a domestic circulation for technological innovation.

The 2021 CIEF steps up efforts to attract innovation projects from countries with a developed technology industry, introducing global advanced innovation elements to China for double circulation. The CIEF also features the Belt and Road international exhibition area and Israel Day activities. About 300 projects will be displayed at an exhibition area of more than 1,100 square meters.
