OPPO A92 launches in Malaysia!

Today is a good day. It is Monday, and some parts of Malaysia is coming back to life. After 48 days of staying indoors, we can also understand the excitement of people getting back out there to the office to living life outside home. It is great. But it is also a good day for OPPO Malaysia because they just launched a brand-new smartphone today. They have launched their budget champion, the OPPO A92 smartphone.

The new OPPO A92 is a contender priced at MYR 1,199. It is not OPPO’s lowest priced smartphone in Malaysia by far. It is OPPO’s latest offering for the entry-level mid-range smartphone market. Despite the price, what you get is no slouch.

You still get a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 System on a Chip (SoC) packing eight-cores to the punch. That powerhouse is backed by a large 8GB of RAM for smoother, and better multitasking. You also get 128GB in storage to go with that.

You would want that 128GB of storage also to work with your large 6.5-inch Neo Display displaying at Full HD+ resolution. You can load up movies, load up apps, or even enjoy Netflix and other streaming services and it will look good on the large bezel-less display. There is a small punch hole to accommodate the front-facing camera though.

The large Full HD+ display is also useful to see your photos in detail. You would want to because this OPPO A92 has a 48-Megapixel shooter flanked by three other cameras to make it a quad-camera set up effectively. The main camera can shoot in 4K resolution and you even get clever EIS to make sure your videos looks as if you have a gimbal for hands. You get an 8-Megapixel wide-angle camera with that, a 2-Megapixel macro lens, and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor with the OPPO A92. Out front is a 16-Megapixel shooter. Of course, the high-resolution cameras are the also reasons why you want 128GB of memory in the device. If not, there is room for MicroSD expansion.

To keep this Android 10 device running all day and even more, OPPO packs in 5,000mAh in battery capacity. This is in a body that is no larger than its big flagship brother that is the OPPO Find X2 series. Of course, the Android 10 is laced with OPPO’s very own ColorOS 7.1, which we quite like as mentioned in our OPPO Find X2 review. Oh, the battery is also capable of charging at 18W via the USB Type-C port beside the 3.5mm headphone port.

Nokia 5.3 Packs a Mid-ranged Punch with the Snapdragon 665

HMD Global has arguably made Nokia phones a mid-range champion. The company brought back the Nokia brand with a bang with their first generation of Nokia Android smartphones, spearheaded by the original Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Two years later, the company has stuck to its guns and launched the latest iteration of their mid-range champion, the Nokia 5.3

Like it’s predecessors, the Nokia 5.3 comes packs respectable specifications with a design language that has become a signature for Nokia smartphones. The new smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 and will be complemented with 64GB of internal storage. However, users will be able to chose between 3GB, 4GB, or 6GB of RAM. Storage is expandable through the microSD card slot.

The Android 10 touting smartphone will come with a 6.55-inch IPS LCD display with a HD+ resolution of 720×1600 pixels. It has a pixel density of 268 pixels per inch with a 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be running on the Adreno 610 graphics processing unit.

On the camera front, the Nokia 5.3 comes with a quad camera array. The main camera is 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 with support for Phase Detection Auto-focus (PDAF). This is complemented with a 5-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 2-megapixel macro sensor and 2-megapixel depth sensor. It will be able to support Full HD 1080p video recording at 30 fps. On the front, the Nokia 5.3 is equipped with a 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Connectivity wise, the Nokia 5.3 will support WiFi 802.11b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE and GPS. It supports USB Type C but doesn’t seem to support fast charging.

Pricing & Availability

The Nokia 5.3 will be available globally in April. It will come in Cyan, Sand and Charcoal. It looks to be costing about €189 (MYR 891.48).

Sony Xperia 10 II Builds on New Mid-range DNA

The original Sony Xperia 10 launched along side the original Xperia 1 last year at MWC. It was Sony’s latest attempt at creating a mid-range device which would allow new users to jump on board their ecosystem. It’s also the first mid-range smartphone which launched under their new One Sony approach which marries all of Sony’s strengths in one ecosystem. This year, the company is refreshing the Xperia 10 with the Xperia 10 II (pronounced Xperia 10 mark II).

The Xperia 10 II will be equipped with a 21:9 Triluminous display. The OLED panel in the display comes with technology that is found in Sony’s BRAVIA TVs. According to Sony, the 10 II will allow users to enjoy their content with deeper blacks and more vibrant colours thanks to this. The Full HD+ resolution should make the experience of consuming your content on the 10 II one of the most immersive there is on the market.

The Xperia 10 II comes with a triple camera setup. The main camera sensor is a 1/2.8-inch, 12-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with a 26mm focal length, F2.0 aperture and 77° field of view; This is supported by two 1/4-inch, 8-megapixel sensors; one has an F2.4 aperture with 52mm focal length while the other has an F2.2 aperture with 16mm focal length. The former has a 45° field of view while the latter has 120°. On the front, is a similar 8-megapixel sensor with F2.0 aperture and 84° field of view.

The processing power of the smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 supported by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Of course, this is expandable by up to 1TB through the microSD card slot. All of this is a powered by 3,600mAh battery capable of fast charging.

The Xperia 10 II will be available in Spring 2020. It will be available in Mint, Black, White and Blue. No pricing details have been revealed by Sony at this time.
