An entry-level smartphone makes plenty of sense if you think about it. It did not used to be like this though. For the longest time, in the earlier days of Android smartphones, entry-level smartphones are ones you want to avoid unless you absolutely must get one, or on such a tight budget, your wallet looked like there was about to be a hole in it. Thankfully, as high-end smartphones get more powerful, so does entry-level smartphones.
It is true that higher-end technologies of the yesteryears get passed down to more budget friendly options for the masses. It is especially true in the smartphone segment and the entry-level smartphone segment. An entry-level smartphone today can be comparable to flagship level smartphone from about 5 years ago in some cases and at a fraction of the price.
One of those entry-level devices you can get soon is the realme C30.
While the most popular smartphone segment in the region are mid-range smartphones, entry-level smartphones like the realme C30 can be rather appealing. For one, its price itself is rather appealing in the sea of flagships costing north of MYR 5,000 these days. The realme C30 will only set you back MYR 499 at most.

It is not like other entry-level smartphones either that tries to stand out with funky designs and weird looks. It is rather subtle, simple, very much like modern flagship smartphones. Of course, it does come with its own unique design to still set it apart. The Vertical Stripe Design, as they call it, are etched lines at the back of the device to not just add a visual impact, it is also to add some texture and grip for a more secure feel in your hands.
No, you do not get a Qualcomm, or a MediaTek for that matter, in this price range. Rather, you get a Unisoc T612 processor. You do not get bleeding edge 5nm technology with the System on a Chip (SoC). You do get eight cores on the device though with clocks up to 1.8Ghz with Cortex A75 architecture. While it may not sound like much, the processor can work with everything you need in a basic smartphone. At the same time, UFS 2.2 speeds should ensure that the C30 still feels as snappy as it can be for the money.
The SoC powers Android 11 with realme’s UI Go on a 6.5-inch display. No, its not a Full HD display, but you still get about 270ppi out of the 720p HD+ IPS panel. The front display also houses a 5-Megapixel front-facing camera for selfies, and even video conferences via the smartphone.
Out the back is a single 8-Megapixel main camera with some AI magic. It is constructed with 4P lens to ensure that your photos look as clear as you see them with your eyes. It is also capable of 4x digital zoom for when you need it. The photos may not take up too much space, but you can add up to 1TB in microSD storage on top of up to 64GB of built-in storage.
To keep everything running as they should be for an entire day, there is a 5,000mAh built-in battery. It is not a fast-charging battery, so you do want to give it some time to charge. You get up to 45 days in quoted standby time though, which is a long time between charges. If you keep it to Ultra Saving Mode, a 5% charge can last for 45.3 hours (quoted).
Price and Availability
The realme C30 comes in three attractive colours – Lake Blue, Bamboo Green, and Denim Black. Not whites, unfortunately. You cannot complain much though when you realise that you are paying MYR 429 (3GB + 32GB) for the smartphone. To get 4GB of RAM and 64GB in storage, you pay just a little bit more money at MYR 499. The realme C30 will be available in all realme Malaysia authorized stores and resellers across the nation from the 16th of July 2022 onward. Realme has made a name for itself by offering affordable smartphones. However, the company has been uncompromising when it comes to features and value in its offerings with smartphones like the recently released Realme 9 series. That said, Realme is breaking from its MO and exploring a true flagship in their Realme GT 2 Pro. Teased earlier this year at MWC, the smartphone is Realme’s first foray into the flagship market and it’s finally making its Malaysian debut.

The Realme GT 2 Pro sports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor which promises top of the line performance. The new 4nm process also brings with it better power efficiency. The phone pairs this with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. However, unlike Realme phones of the past, the GT 2 Pro does away with microSD card support.
It comes with a 6.7-inch, AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. The display maxes out at 1,400 nits peak brightness. The 2K resolution (1440×3216 pixels) of the panel gives it a 509ppi density. It also comes with Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 support as well as 5G connectivity.
On the back, the Realme GT 2 Pro is coming with a triple camera setup with a dual 50-megapixel primary sensor with a large 150° field of view. Complementing this dual sensor setup is a 3-megapixel microscope sensor with 40x magnification. On the front is a 32-megapixel selfie camera. The main camera setup supports 8K video shooting. The main sensor comes with phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization.

Realme is touting all-day battery life on the GT 2 Pro thanks to its large 5,000mAh battery which supports 65W fast charging. It also comes with an under-display fingerprint sensor.
Pricing & Availability
The GT 2 Pro will be available in Malaysia starting on 25th March 2022 for MYR2,999. It will be available only in the 12GB RAM version with 256GB storage in either black or white.
However, if you’re looking for a great deal, the phone will be offered at MYR2,599 during flash sales on the Realme Malaysia Official store on Shopee from 25th to 26th March 2022 and from 30th to 31st March 2022. Units bought during these periods will come with a free set of Realme Buds 2 NEO.
The first sale at Realme authorized stores will be happening from 26th March 2022 until 27th March 2022. During this period, the GT 2 Pro will be sold at full retail price. However, purchases will be entitled to a free Realme Watch 2 Pro and an extended warranty.

IoT was the keyword of last year. That does not mean that IoT is an outdated concept though. It is still a big thing as we are going into the 5G era. But IoT is also not a new concept even coming into 2019. Our smartwatches are considered IoT devices. These smartwatches have existed for several years now.
Of course, ever since we saw the first smartwatch, everyone wants to be a part of that smart wearable market. The accessories market, after all, is one of the most profitable. realme, being on of the major players in the smartphone market is one of those companies that has delved into the IoT product market. In fact, they have been one of the fastest growing manufacturers in the segment.
Their growth rate is nothing curious though. The brand has been offering very compelling products at extremely attractive and accessible prices. Think about it, would you buy a TWS earbuds for MYR 599 or MYR 199 when they do the same things? The only real difference is probably in the branding. Okay, to be fair, there are some differences here and there in different aspects. But hey, the better accessibility also means that you can sell more of it since it is less painful to your pockets.
With the kind of success they enjoy, they are going to expand on other wearable and smart living products. It is quite inevitable too; everyone is getting into the wearable game that was conquered by the likes of Samsung. So, in addition to their previously launched realme Buds TWS earbuds, they launched even more products today.

Firstly, they launched a new and improved TWS earbuds. They call it the realme Buds Air Neo. No, it does not come with noise cancelling technology. But it is an all-around better product with a slightly larger drivers at 13mm. They come with 17 hours of battery life too in total too. Also, it is a Bluetooth 5.0 device. Now also, you can wear it to the gym with zero worries since it is an IPX4 device. You might be able to wear it in the showers too. Just make sure it does not go into the drain.

They also launched another TWS earbuds. They launched the realme Buds Q that is supposed to have even more battery life at up to 20 hours of music playback time. Instead of the Apple Earpods-esque design, this is a more conventional design that we are used to. It has the usual silicon eartips that fit into your ears and seal the sounds in for a passive noise cancelling. Even with a smaller 10mm drivers, you should not lose too much performance on the earbuds. Still, because of the smaller drivers, it is light too at 3.9g each side
It comes with its own set of touch sensitive controls for a seamless design. The charging and storage case is also different with a pebble like design for a better looking fit and feel in the hands. It feels more natural. Of course, that is to be expected when they engaged Hermés’ designer josé Lévy.

Then there is the realme watch. The realme watch is realme’s answer to the Fitbit Versa, HUAWEI Watch GT, Samsung Galaxy Watch, and even the Apple Watch. At first glances, it looks more like the Fitbit Versa and Apple Watch combined. The rotating crown and button combination of the Apple Watch is nowehere to be found. In their place is a Fitbit Versa-eque button but in the wrong place.
Greeting you from your wrist is a 1.4-inch touch sensitive display that is quite a staple for plenty of smartwatches these days. Like any respectable smartwatches too the realme watch has all the right sensors including a full-time heart rate sensor. It is also made to be water resistant with IP68 so you can wear it to the gym, or even in the showers with no fuss.
The realme watch does not look like it is running on Google Wear though. Instead realme builds their own version of a wearable operating system that fits the squared face better. Of course, it comes with multiple watchfaces that you can swap to anytime you like. The watch that has 14 sports modes will connect with your smartphones via the realme proprietary Link Smart App for all the health data and additional settings to be controlled on your smartphone.

If you are not looking for something as complex as a smartwatch though, you have the realme Band. While it looks like just any other smart fitness tracker band thing that you can get from the likes of Samsung and even Fitibit, it is a little bit more special. You do not need any USB docks or wires to charge the device. No, it is not wireless charging in a sense, it is still docked charging, just that you do not need anything other than the watch itself to charge. Simply remove the bottom part of the strap and plug it into your PC or power bank or wall charger via USB port to start charging it.
You get 0.95-inch of colours from the watchface with a full-time heart rate sensor. You also get to track your daily activities with the built-in 9 modes. It is also IP68 rated so you still can take it from the gym to the showers with zero concerns over your device dying on you.

Of course, everyone is in extended power game now. Realme has their own attractive looking, striking coloured realme Power Bank line-up too. They introduced their new Power Bank 2 with multiple charging ports that supports up to 18W power output with USB Type-C two-way charging. This is a 10,000 mAh power pack, which also means it can charge most of your smartphones twice over
They also launched another variant of their Power Bank – the realme 30W Dart Charge Power Bank. As its name suggest, this power pack charges devices at up to 30W to drain its 10,000mAh capacity in no time. Yes, it charges multiple devices at one go too.
Price and Availability
The realme Buds Air Neo will be available in three colours – Pop White, Punk Green, and Rock Red. It will be available on the 22nd of June onward exclusively on Shopee at this time for MYR 199. If you do go on Shoppe to buy the TWS earbuds on the 22nd and 23rd of June, on the realme exclusive flash sales on Shopee though, you can get your Buds Air Neo at MYR 79.
The pretty looking realme Buds Q will be available in either Yellow, Pure white, or Black colour options. You are looking at July if you want your hands on one. There are no prices announced yet for this one, so stay tune to realme’s website or Facebook page.
realme’s watch will be available in Black, but you can interchange your strap to different colours. That will also be available with realme watch on the 12th June onward for MYR 299. If you get it on realme’s exclusive flash sales on Shopee though, you can get your hands on one for MYR 249 only.
The realme Band will also only be available later from 22nd June onward. It will be available in three colours variants – Yellow, Black and Green. On 22nd and 23rd realme exclusive flash sales on Shopee, you can get your hands on the realme Band at MYR 79 instead of its full retail price of MYR 129.
The Power Banks that realme introduced today will be available in two colour options – Yellow and Black. The Power Bank 2 with 18W charging will be available on the 12th June 2020 onward. On that day’s exclusive flash sales on Shopeee, you can get the Power Bank 2 for MYR 99 instead of MYR 129. In the technology world, high-performance means a lot of money. There are times though in the industry where someone comes in and says that the high-price, high-performance moniker is rubbish. In the smartphone industry, there is always that one brand that does that. In today’s world, that is realme.
To prove a point, they just launched their flagship class realme 6 Pro. Not this is not their flagship. They have the X series for that. This is their mid-range tier smartphone technically.
This is not the only realme 6 device on sale today too. They launched the realme 6 smartphone not too long ago with a maximum price tag of MYR 1,199 as of last week. Today is a different story though. They are upping the realme 6 game.

The realme 6 pro, as the title would have furnished you, cost a little more than the top-of-the-range realme 6 at MYR 1,399. There is quite a little bit more that you are paying for too in the realme 6.
For one, you are paying for a more proven, more standard, high performing Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G. This is not a shade toward the MediaTek processors. The Qualcomm processors are just a little more optimised for Android, to be fair. That is also why they tend to cost more, it is the gold standard in the smartphone world.
You are also paying for a very slight bump on the display front. It is larger at 6.6-inch. You still get Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The realme 6 had 6.5-inch of display. They are also bot IPS panels.

In terms of memory and storage, the realme 6 and realme 6 Pro are tied at 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage ( up to). Both can be upgraded via MicroSD slot that is also a hybrid SIM tray. The MYR 200 does not really go here. Not to the battery too, at 4,300 mAh with 30W flash charging capability.
Nope, not the main camera either. You still get the same 64-Megpixel main shooter supported by a 12-Megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and a 2-Megapixel 4cm macro sensor. Both will give you 20x hybrid zoom too, if you are wondering.
What you are paying for when it comes to the camera though is the extra camera up front. There is a new 8-Megapixel shooter that is there for wide-angle self-portraits beside the high-resolution 16-Megapixel main front facing camera.

To sum it up, you are paying MYR 200 extra for one extra lens, a slightly bigger display, and a new processor. Is it worth it? Yes, it is. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G may not be a flagship type System on a Chip (SoC). It is nearly as powerful though. In terms of daily experience, it is indistinguishable from a flagship class. The slight bump in display size also means that you will not lose any real display real-estate even with another camera in the punch hole camera. Oh yes, you get another camera to go with your smartphone, that is another thing.

In this week’s techENT Download weekly news round-up, we have the two biggest names in tech. The two names are Apple and Google. They are also on the same page this time. Apple and Google, this time is collaborating on a very special project. They are developing a new API based tech for contact tracing. That also means that health institutes and governments could benefit by zeroing down on patient zero or sources of outbreaks in clusters.
That is not all that Apple did last week though, they launched a new iPhone last week too. It is the new Apple iPhone SE, a recycled name with new hardware. You go back to a 4.7-inch display and a fingerprint sensor. Inside though, you get a powerful A13 Bionic System on a Chip (SoC).
Speaking of powerful though, OnePlus launches their brand new 2020 flagship – the new OnePlus 8 series. The OnePlus 8 Pro packs Qualcomm’s most powerful Snapdragon 865 SoC. It also comes with a very familiar 6.7-inch 120Hz QHD+ display and a 48-Megapixel triple camera arrangement.
If you are not up for something so upmarket though, there is the realme 6i that just launched in Malaysia for MYR 699 onward. While not the most premium name or pricing, you still get plenty of power from a MediaTek Helio G80 Octa-core SoC and quad-cameras. Also, you get a large 5,000mAh battery that should last you a day and more.
Smartphones have gone quite crazy these days. If you think about it, there are not many smartphones that you can buy at MYR 1,000. Thing is though, there are plenty of people that still does not want to or cannot spend above MYR 1,000 for a new smartphone.
In that space, there are even less players. Most established brands in the smartphone industry has gone above the MYR 1,000 line. That leaves only certain players staying in that market space. One of the most prominent one that kept within that line is Realme.
While the price range does not make it sound like a premium brand, they do make some compelling smartphones. Their realme 6 that just launched about a month ago for example, gives you best in class performance but at the same time has an asking price that is easily reachable for almost anyone who is looking for a smartphone. Today, they introduced another one, the realme 6i.

The first thing they teased, not teased, what was the right word? Rendered. They rendered two colours on offer for the Realme 6i – Green Tea and White Milk. But that is not all they are, they are not just pretty things. They pack some power too.
It is even more powerful than the Realme 6. It packs a MediaTek Helio G80 Octa-core System on a Chip (SoC) that clocks up to 2.0GHz. That is MediaTek’s most powerful SoC to date, and realme 6i is the first device to boast this kind of flagship power from MediaTek. You get up to 4GB of RAM with the SoC too, meaning multitasking should be no issue. You get up to 128GB
Out the back is a 48-Megapixel main camera that is supported by three other lenses, very much like any modern realme. You get an ultra-wide lens, a black and white lens, and a macro lens together with the 48-Megapixel main camera. They did not specify the amount of megapixel the other lenses pack though. Out the front is a 16-Megapixel camera for selfies. There is no telephoto lens here, which is a little out of the ordinary. Thing is, black and white lens does help with detailing on your final photo though. All this power and high-resolution photo are pushed to your eyes through a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with a small notch on top of the display.
To ensure that you can take photos all day long or even play games all day long or at the very least stay connected to the world for a whole day, the realme 6i packs a large battery. Larger than usual at 5,000 mAh. That is also one of the largest you can find in smartphones in its class. That 5,000 mAh battery can be charged at 18W fast charger. It can also charge your friend’s smartphone if your friends need some extra power. Now you can be your friend’s hero.

The Realme 6i is available in two colour variants, as mentioned earlier. It will be available in Green Tea and White Milk colour variants. The Realme 6i will be available from MYR 699 (3GB + 64GB) and MYR 899 (4GB + 128GB). From the 23rd of April onward, the 3GB RAM and 64GB storage variant of the Realme 6i will be available exclusively on Shopee. If you do get your device on first sale date, you can get your device at MYR 599. If you go out into the smartphone market right now, you would be spoiled for choice. You have not even set a budget. So let us say that you have a budget of MYR 1,000 for a smartphone. That part of the market, while not as filled as the mid-range market from MYR 1,000 – MYR 3,000 market range, is still quite a crowd.
You get plenty of offerings from most of the Chinese brands.
They are not some brands you never heard of too. They are reputable brands that
have been in the market for some time now, with proven products and strategy. You
have brand names like OPPO, who have started making great flagships like their
OPPO Find X2 series. You have Xiaomi who had innovated with their Mi Mix Alpha
wraparound display. You have HONOR and HUAWEI who made headlines with their own
flagships too.
The point is, they make smartphones that sells at below MYR
1,000 as well; and they are not half bad products at that price. You still get
the latest Android, the latest hardware to work with, not the most high-end of
stuff; but you get the picture. It is a tough market to be in.

That is where the Realme brand shines though. They make
budget friendly devices at great prices. Their latest offering just resonates
that quality of theirs. The Realme 6 that was just launched in Malaysia a few
days ago.
The Reame 6 is not some kind of revolutionary product that
completely changes Realme’s range of smartphones. It is to replace the Realme 5,
yes; but it is more like an evolution that a revolution.
The display, for example is not that big of a step up in terms
of size. At 6.5-inch, it is still the same size with the Realme 5. The notch
that was on the Realme 5 is now a punch-hole on the top-left corner of the
display. The resolution is also bumped up to Full HD+ instead of HD+. You also
get 90Hz refresh rate with the display, and 12Hz sampling rate. Then again,
90Hz is becoming a norm these days.

The upgrades do not just end there though. It is throughout
the whole device. The device is packing improved power too thanks to the MediaTek
MT6785 Helio G90T Octa-core system on a chip (SoC). They tout it as a gaming
class processor, like almost everything else in the market. It does work well
on games like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends though, as demonstrated in a
livestream.
That Octa-core processor unit is helped by 4GB of RAM, which
may not seem like a lot; but 4GB is more than enough most of the time on a
smartphone. You are not getting shorthanded in your storage size though; 128GB
in storage, in fact. You even get a MicroSD slot if you need to expand your
storage size.

Out the back is still a quad-camera layout; no one is crazy
enough to make an official appearance of a five-camera layout just yet. Instead
of a 12-Megapixel shooter though, you get a bumped up 64-Megapixel main
shooter. That is supported by an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-Megapixel
Macro lens, and a 2-Megapixel Black and White lens which also acts as a depth
sensor. Out the front is a 16-Megapixel shooter, that is also a bump up from
13-Megapixel of the Realme 5. Of course, with the main shooter you can shoot
videos t up to 4K resolution.
All this power is no use if you cannot bring it out of the house or leave your charger behind. It comes with a 30W fast charging capability on its 4,300 mAh battery. It is charged via a USB Type-C cable too, so there is that. On another plus side, it still has a 3.5mm jack so your old headphones are not obsolete.

realme has made a name for itself when it comes to budget
friendly smartphones. While they mostly play at the budget, entry-level
smartphone range, it does not mean that their products are in any way bad
products though. Their C series has proven to the market that cheap products
does not mean cheap quality and cheap experience. They have a proven track record
in the segment is what we are trying to say.
Their latest addition to their C family has just landed in
Malaysia today. What a follow up though. As expected, it is sold at less than
MYR 1,000; way lower. It will set you back MYR 499. Who says you cannot own a
smartphone below MYR 500?

You are not paying
for less features too. It is powered by MediaTek’s latest Helio G70 System on a
Chip (SoC). While some may perceive MediaTek’s processors to be slower or inferior
to the Qualcomm’s that is just not the case. They may not perform as well as
the Qualcomm chipsets, but that does not mean that they do not pack a punch.
The MediaTek Helio G70 SoC is effectively an Octa-core processor
with two high powered ARM Cortex-A75 cores and six low powered Cortex A-55
cores. It clocks at a maximum of 2.0GHz, which is powerful enough to plenty of
today’s flagships, technically. The only thing it might lack at this point is a
5G modem. While that seems like a bad thing, trust me, it is not as bad as you
think.
While you do not get 5G, you still get dual 4G LTE connection
on the realme C3. Yes, a you get to push in two SIM cards into this device.
Then again, dual-SIM standby is quite expected these days. Nothing to shout about
then.
Having the MediaTek Helio G70 however, is something that

The big power from the MediaTek SoC is matched to three
cameras at the back. Yes, it is effectively a triple camera set-up. We did say
that it packs quite a lot for MYR 499.
Its main camera is a 12-Megapixel shooter paired to 12-Megapixel
telephoto lens with 4x zoom, and a 2-Megapixel macro lens for that extra close,
extra detailed photo. At the front is a 5-Megapixel shooter with the expected AI
beauty function, HDR, and what not. That front-facing camera is housed in a
small notch on top of the 6.5-inch 720p HD+ LCD display.
Small compromise on the display, a Full HD+ display on a
small budget smartphone at this price is quite impossible, you know. You still
can record at Full HD 1080p on your rear camera though, no problem with that.

No, you do not get in-display fingerprint sensor on this
device too. Again, expecting those kinds of things in a smartphone less than
MYR 500 is a little unrealistic. Still, it has a fingerprint sensor recess at
the back of the device. The back is not really glass but has a nice beaming texture
and pattern to it.
What it lacks in those features though, it makes up in
battery size. It packs a 5,000mAh battery within its small body. That should be
good for a whole day of battery and even more. You can even use this device as
your friend’s power banks so they owe you their lives. The Android 10 with
realme UI overlay device is charged at a maximum of 10W via a MicroUSB port; a
little old school, but hey it works. Also you may reuse all the old MicroUSB
cables you might already have.
