OPPO is getting really busy with more and more devices coming into the Malaysian market. Just a few weeks back, the company launched their most affordable 5G smartphone, the OPPO A74 5G. The 4G variant of the OPPO A74 is now set to make its debut on May 20, 2021. It will be coming as an exclusive to LAZADA. It will be retailing for MYR899 and will be available with freebies for its first sale.
The OPPO A74 comes packed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor complemented with 6GB of RAM. It will also have 128GB of UFS 2.1 memory and support for up to 512GB of extra memory via a microSD card. It supports 33W fast charging through a USB-C port. On the camera front, it has a triple sensor setup with a 48-megapixel main camera sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, a 2-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The OPPO A74 supports 4K video recording at 30 fps. The front camera is a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.1 aperture. The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery.
The affordable option from OPPO also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and an under-screen fingerprint sensor. To complete the media experience, the smartphone comes with a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 1080×2400 pixel resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. It will be running ColorOS 11 atop Android 11.
Together with the new smartphone, OPPO is also repricing the OPPO Reno5 5G. The mid-range offering will now be priced at MYR1,699, MYR200 cheaper than its launch price. The new pricing makes the smartphone one of the more affordable 5G devices available on the market now. It also comes with OPPO’s VOOC Charge 2.0 and a camera setup that brings all of OPPO’s signature camera features.
Smartphone cameras have been on a roll in the past two years. OnePlus launches their OnePlus 9 flagship series in partnership with Hasselblad, OPPO’s Find X3 Pro comes with a microscopic lens, Samsung pushing technology with 108-Megapixel sensors, Sony even pushing the limits of their 12-Megapixel sensors with their Alpha camera knowhow. These are nothing new, to be fair. Co-branding smartphone cameras with big camera brand names started with Nokia and Zeiss. The phenomenon hit the main stage with HUAWEI and Leica’s big partnership since the HUAWEI P9.
With the advancement in camera technology on smartphones though, has these brands made proper cameras obsolete? While nothing bigger sensor still has its own advantages in terms of low-light performance and detail, smartphone cameras have progressed so much with the software that they are paired with that even low-light photography is a breeze with a smartphone. The advancement of smartphone technology also made it easier for you to get the shots you want in less time and less work than a DSLR or mirrorless.
What does this mean for dedicated cameras though? Does this mean we can replace these kinds of stuff with the small slate in our pockets? Or, should you still spend your hard-earned money on a proper camera that could set you back anywhere between half the price of a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to multiple flagship smartphones? We discuss this in this episode of Tech & Tonic.
OPPO finally launches their flagship class OPPO Find X3 Pro in Malaysia. Thankfully, the OPPO Find X3 Pro did not take long to arrive to the Malaysian shores. The Find X3 Pro launched globally on the 11th of March 2021, which also means that it took exactly two weeks for the device to arrive Malaysia.
The OPPO Find X3 Pro is OPPO’s latest flagship smartphone to arrive in Malaysia. It packs the industry leading Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G platform for maximum attack. The powerful System on a Chip (SoC) is not for nothing though, other than the 5G connectivity of course. The powerful chip keeps two powerful 50-Megapixel sensors happy and taking great looking photos. The OPPO Find X3 Pro also features a unique microscopic lens that offers up to 60x magnification for the finer things in life. These cameras can take up to 10-bit photos too. That also means you get up to 1-billion colours in your photos.
The 10-bit photos can be viewed and appreciated via the 6.7-inch QHD+ (1440p) OLED display. The display also boasts 10-bit colours with OPPO’s Full-path 10-bit Colour Management System. With 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio for even more true to life colours and images. On top of that LTPO OLED that adapts between 5Hz to 120Hz also means that your OLED display saves battery power.
On the subject of power-saving, the OPPO Find X3 Pro packs a 4,500mAh battery pack within its glass formed body. The 4,500mAh should last you longer than a day too, as per the Find X2 series. But when the battery goes flat, you get up to 65W charging via OPPO’s SuperVOOC 2.0 flash charge. You can charge wirelessly too at 30W via AirVOOC. If you have other wireless charging devices, you can share power via reverse charging at 10W too.

The OPPO flagship will retail at MYR 4,299. You can pre-order your OPPO Find X3 Pro today onward from. All pre-orders will also come with free gifts worth a total of MYR 1,935. For more information, you can visit OPPO’s website.
5G is huge. We have not seen such technology arriving in Malaysia yet at this time, but we know it is coming soon. According to OPPO as well, 5G support is also one of the most sought features in a smartphone. That is why they have introduced their latest OPPO F19 Pro and OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G.
The OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G is OPPO’s first F-series 5G device is powered by MediaTek’s Octa-core Dimensity 800U processor with an ARM G57 MC3 GPU. On top of that, 409 ppi of pixel density and peak brightness up to 800nits does not hurt too.
The OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G comes with a quad-camera setup complemented with a single front camera. The quad-camera set-up includes a 48-Megapixel Omni OV48B as the primary lens with f/1.7 aperture, an 8-Megapixel, ultra-wide snapper with 119° field of view and f/2.2 aperture, a 2-Megapixel macro lens, and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor, both lenses come with f/2.4 aperture. It features a slimmer design at 7.8mm but comes packing a 4,310mAh battery with 30W fast charging capability. Other than the fact that this does not support 5G networks, the rest of this device is similar to the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G

It is here, the new OPPO Find X3. We initially thought that we had to patiently wait for another year before OPPO releases their Find flagship series. We did not though, and the OPPO Find X3 series has launched to replace the OPPO Find X2 series of 2020.
OPPO Find X3 Pro
We start with the usual headline figures at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G enabled System on a Chip (SoC) and up to 12GB of RAM paired. Up to 256GB in storage; UFS 3.1 of course for faster read and write speeds. Android 11 with ColorOS 11.2. We all know what the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 can do at this point.
That is just the tip of the iceberg that is the OPPO Find X3 Pro. All the powerful internals are wrapped by a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that boasts 1,440 by 3,216 pixels (1440p/WQHD+). That display also features one of the world’s fastest response time at about 5-10ms in touch response time. On top of that, 120Hz refresh rate ensures that graphics are super smooth at all times. It is not a full time 120Hz display though. The Find X3 can turn the refresh rate down all the way to 5Hz for less intensive usage. OPPO says that the display also covers 10-bit colours and features 100% DSI-P3 colour gamut for even better colour reproduction and accuracy on top of HDR10+. OPPO being OPPO, the display can be calibrated to adjust for specific colour blindness too, neat.
Wrapping around the display and framing the back of the OPPO Find X3 Pro is a beautifully sculpted glass back. No ceramic trickery this time, just normal glass that is shaped to conform the curves and bumps intended for the back of the device. The glass back is not a regular glass back that has a cut out for the entire camera module though. The glass back stretches throughout the back of the device with cut outs made only to fit the lenses. The result is an amazing looking back that is available in either the classic black or a unique blue with a sort of fingerprint resistant texture.
The glass back not only hides the 4,500mAh battery with SuperVOOC 2.0 (65W) and AirVOOC (30W) wireless charging technology. It also seamlessly houses the quad camera set-up that is a newly developed 50-Megapixel IMX789 main camera, an also newly developed 50-Megapixel IMX766 ultra-wide camera with Free Form lens, a 13-Megapixel telephoto camera capable of 5x optical zoom, and an impressive 3-Megapixel macro camera for those amazing close-up shots. You get 10-bit colour high-resolution photos with both 50-Megapixel sensors on the OPPO Find X3. Thanks to the Free From lens technology on the ultra-wide camera, the photos come out distortion free. Of course, the camera is also capable of shooting videos at 4K 60p with 10-bit colours.
Of course, they did not forget the front-facing camera. It is OPPO, after all. The selfie camera then is a 32-Megapixel unit. The high-resolution front camera is also given some extra tweaks like an enhanced ‘night mode’ to capture more natural, more detailed selfies even in low-light. That also means better looking Instagram photos.
Price and Availability
OPPO’s latest Find X3 Pro is said to be available globally toward the end of March 2021 at EU€ 1,149 (US$ 1,373*) which is about MYR 5,641** with the current conversion rate. The OPPO Find X3 Pro will be available in Gloss Black and Blue (yes, just ‘Blue’; no fancy naming this time) colour options. Alongside the OPPO Find X3 Pro, OPPO also announced that the OPPO Enco X is now available globally at EU€ 179 (US$ 214*), which converts to approximately MYR 879** currently.
There are no mentions to indicate specific local availability dates and official pricing. If we can take a guess though the OPPO Find X3 Pro might set you back MYR 5,899 and the OPPO Enco X will set you back between MYR 699 (based on CN¥ 999 pricing) all the way to MYR 899 (based on EU€ 179 pricing). We are also expecting that Malaysia’s availability for both devices to be somewhere at the end of March 2021 to early April 2021. For more information on the OPPO Find X3 Pro and OPPO Enco X ANC TWS earphones you can visit OPPO’s website.

Update (11/03/21): The OPPO Enco X has launched globally with immediate availability. Official global pricing is EU€ 179 (MYR 879***). We are expecting the TWS earphone to arrive in Malaysia toward the end of March 2021 or early April 2021 alongside the OPPO Find X3 Pro.
Meet the OPPO Enco X, OPPO’s new True Wireless (TWS) earphones that is supposed to feature Active Noise Cancelling and all the premium things you can find on a TWS earphone. They created it with Dynaudio as well, a well known Danish HiFi audio solutions provider. This should be a good one.
Technically, it is a good one. There has been reviews out and about already and the product has been available in India since January 2021. Of course, it is available in China as well. You technically can buy the OPPO Enco X from Shopee as well, albeit not from official sources and unofficial price tags attached to them.
That is all about to change soon, according to OPPO. They have not given us a tentative date at this time, but they also say that they will announce the launch date soon. Yes, they are very vague. At least they confirmed that the new OPPO Enco X will be available in Malaysia officially.
The OPPO Enco X, if you have not known yet, is OPPO’s latest TWS earphones to enter the market after the OPPO Enco Free, Enco W31, Enco W11, and Enco W51. Most of these options can be considered budget options with prices less than MYR 300 (US$ 73*). The most expensive of these Enco earphones currently available in Malaysia is the OPPO Enco Free at MYR 499 (US$ 121*).
The OPPO Enco X though is going to be a slightly more premium product. Its official pricing in China is RMB 999 (US$ 153**) which converts to about MYR 634. But there is a good reason for the more premium pricing.
For one, it is created with Dynaudio. As per mentioned, Dynaudio is a world famous Danish HiFi gear maker. They are one of the go-to brands when it comes to high-end audio gear and even studio monitoring gear. Them lending their expertise to OPPO will really elevate the listening experience.
OPPO is not exactly new to high-end audio either. Remember they launched the OPPO PM-1 headphone, one of the highest acclaimed high-end audio gears any audiophile could get with their money. They also released something called DBEE Dynamic Audio technology back in 2007. The technology is now in its third generation available on the OPPO Enco X. The technology supposedly features new materials and new construction layout and methods to deliver better aural experiences.
Secondly, the OPPO Enco X is an Active Noice Cancelling (ANC) enabled earphone. ANC usually means premium with a price tag to match. The Sony WF-SP800N earphones for example retails at MYR 849. The Apple Airpods Pro retails at MYR 1,099.
Thirdly, OPPO’s Enco X also comes with OPPO’s brilliant Binaural Low-Latency Bluetooth Transmission technology. This should mean lower transmission latency from your connected device to the earphones. That is important for gaming and even phone calls.
Lastly, its battery life. OPPO’s Enco X is said to have up to 25 hours of music playback in total. With noise cancelling fully on though, the earphones itself can last up to 4 hours with music on a single charge. The case gives the Enco X three additional charges. While 4 hours may not sound like much, most TWS earphones have a battery life of less than 3 hours on a single charge.
The OPPO Enco X will be available in White and Black colour options. There are no solid information on its availability dates in Malaysia yet. There are no solid leads on its pricing too at this time. As per its official pricing in China of RMB 999 though, we are expecting prices to be somewhere between MYR 649, to MYR 699 in Malaysia.
* Approximate conversion based on exchange rate US$ 1 = MYR 4.13 on xe.com as of 10/03/2021
** Approximate conversion based on exchange rate US$ 1 = RMB 6.50 on xe.com as of 10/03/2021

Samsung with their Galaxy S21 series has sort of won the flagship market in the first quarter of 2021. There is the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 11 that was very recently launched too, which was touted to be better than the South Korean flagship in every way, on paper. They also sell the device with a charger, a bonus.
Xiaomi is not the only one vying for the top spot in the premium flagship space though. There is also OPPO. To attempt to dethrone Samsung, they are launching the OPPO Find X3 series in 2021.
There is not much information at this time regarding the OPPO Find X3 series. The only thing we know for certain is that OPPO is launching their OPPO Find X3 Pro on the 11th March 2021. It is also most likely going to be launched with Android 11.
The OPPO Find X2 series really pushed Samsung in terms of specification. They proved that a high-resolution display with high refresh rates is possible. They also proved that high refresh rates does not mean a terrible battery life with the 2020 flagship.
The replacement, the OPPO Find X3 Pro continues on that recipe with a supposed high-resolution 1440p display with up to 120Hz. That is technically not a huge upgrade over the 2020 flagship that it replaces. We are also expecting it to come with up to 12GB of RAM, again something that we have seen before in the OPPO Find X2 Pro.
What is new with the OPPO Find X3 Pro though is supposedly its heart. When we say heart, we are mostly referring to powerhouse that is the SoC. We are expecting the OPPO Find X3 Pro to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship class SoC of course.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC is first seen in Malaysia on the Xiaomi Mi 11 flagship smartphone. While you have seen the Xiaomi Mi 11 perform, it does not mean that the OPPO Find X3’s inclusion of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC is any less significant. The OPPO Find X3 Pro could really benefit from the new powerful SoC.
For one, we really like OPPO’s camera application and optimization. We find that they really are among the best in the industry when it comes to camera technology and innovation. We are saying that they really know how to make smartphone cameras work.
With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, the OPPO Find X3 Pro might just be one of the best camera smartphones in the Android space. Even with the Xiaomi Mi 11 series, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC has boasted better sensitivity for low-light conditions. OPPO’s Find X2 series was one of the best low-light shooters we have tested in 2020. That also means that added sensor sensitivity in low-light will just make the OPPO Find X3 Pro an even better low-light shooter than before.
With the Snapdragon 888 in the OPPO flagship as well, the camera AI should benefit from Qualcomm’s Hexagon 780 dedicated AI engine embedded within the chipset. That could also mean better colours, better temperature adjustment, cleverer angle detection and recommendation, and an overall improvement in scene detection. It could also mean better depth in your photos. In that sense, what could you have asked for more?
Of course, we loved the OPPO Find X2 series for their gaming capabilities. We have used it as an alternative display in completing most of Death Stranding. We also played other games with it of course. Games like PUBG Mobile, and even Mobile Legends really benefit from a fast display.
The OPPO Find X3 Pro should deliver even more gaming performance with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Qualcomm’s latest processor is supposedly able to cut down your reaction times in games like Mobile Legends and even PUBG Mobile by 20%. The display is supposed to react to your touch inputs faster than before thanks to the new ultra-fast processor. Of course, even better performance and faster clocks on the SoC does not hurt gaming. They even tout desktop PC level of performances on the SoC.
Of course, all these are still yet to be confirmed. We can only confirm all of the information when the product launches on the 11th of March 2021. Are we excited though? For a smartphone that could give Samsung a run for their money, heck yes.
OPPO took the stage today to unveil their new Reno5 series which brings a new design language with the same top of the line camera technology. Since their initial release of the Reno, OPPO has quickly brought their cutting edge camera technology to the series making it one of the better mid-tier offerings.
This time, OPPO is bringing two editions of the OPPO Reno5: the regular Reno5 and the Reno5 Pro. Both devices come with 5G capabilities. However, they differ in the processors that power them; the OPPO Reno5 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G Octacore processor clocked at 2.4GHz while the Pro comes Mediatek’s Dimensity 1000+ processor. This makes the Reno5 Pro the first smartphone to have Mediatek’s latest processor in Malaysia.
Aside from that, OPPO’s mid-range heroes come with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display on the Reno5 and a slightly larger 6.5-inch SuperAMOLED display on the Pro. Both have a Full HD+ resolution of 2400×1080 pixels in the 20:9 aspect ratio. They are capable of 90Hz refresh rate with 180Hz touch sampling.
Both the Reno5 and Reno5 Pro are capable of 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 which means that you should be able to get to 100% charge with 35 minutes of charging. The Reno5 comes with a 4,300mAH battery while the Reno5 Pro comes with a slightly larger 4350mAh. They charge via a USB-C port and support Wi-Fi 5 and 6 respectively.
On the camera side of things, the Reno5 series comes with a newly augmented 64-megapixel quad-camera sensor. This year the 64-megapixel main sensor is complemented with an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front is 32-megapixel sensor.
While the setup may seem run-of-the-mill, OPPO has augmented the setup with new AI technology they are calling Full Dimension Fusion (FDF). This technology allows the camera to capture portrait selfies the front camera and amazingly crisp pictures with the main camera setup. This time, OPPO has made things a little better by allowing you to use its bokeh algorithm while in video mode. The technology also incorporates Live HDR algorithms that will make dark, dingy pictures and videos come to life with colour and depth. It also brings a new stabilization algorithm that OPPO claims will allow you to have super steady videos and minimise blur in photos.
Pricing & Availability
The OPPO Reno5 will be retailing for MYR1,899 while the Reno5 Pro will be available for MYR2,599. Both phones will be available in Galactic Silver and Starry Black.
Pre-orders have kicked off on the 13th of January and will continue until January 26, 2021. Successful pre-orders will receive a pair OPPO Enco W11 true wireless earphones, an OPPO case and comes with an extended year of warranty. If you walk into an OPPO Sales & Service centre, you will get an additional set of OPPO BFF friendship phone cases and an MYR100 rebate on your purchase of the Reno5. The first 100 walk-in customers will also be entitled to a mystery gift worth up to MYR150,000.

OPPO’s not letting the current state of affairs get it down. Instead, the company has released one of its most affordable midrange smartphones yet – The OPPO A93.
The OPPO A93 is third generation of OPPO’s mid range A series. The A series kicked off slightly over a year ago with the A90 which brought OPPO’s camera technology to the forefront of their midrange. The tradition continues with OPPO equipping the new A93 with a whopping 6 cameras – 2 in the front and 4 at the back. The selfie cameras are a 16-megapixel main camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for the portrait shots that OPPO is known for.
