Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 Gaming Monitor Lands in Malaysia for MYR 9,499 Onward

Samsung launched their updated ultimate gaming monitor back in CES 2023 in January. To be fair, CES 2023 saw Samsung showcasing several versions of their ultimate gaming monitor, the Odyssey G9. One of them was the Odyssey Neo G9 that packs dual UHD resolution on a 57-inch curved panel. While it does sound nice, only NVIDIA’s most powerful GeForce RTX 4090 seems to fit the bill for that display. You might even struggle getting the most out of the monitor even with NVIDIA’s most extreme GPU. The Odyssey Neo G9 is a little unrealistic then. But what about the other monitor Samsung introduced? What about the Odyssey OLED G9?

The Odyssey OLED G9 is not necessarily a new recipe from Samsung. Samsung already made the Odyssey G9 in the prior years. It is an out-of-this-world, hardware-pushing, borderline overkill of a gaming monitor that offers 49 inches of ultra-wide experience in dual QHD resolution at a curve. That also means you do not need to lean to one side of the display to see what is happening at the edge, simply turn your head and you are there. It was, in its day, the ultimate gaming monitor for the ultimate gamers. You want one, until. CES 2023 arrives, and Samsung says they can make this recipe even better.

It is a simple recipe; just add OLED into the mix. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is now born. While it is new in Malaysia, the product has seen the light of day in other regions, including South Korea and the United States. No matter though, that was a month ago and now it is officially arriving in Malaysia.

For starters, if you missed our CES 2023 coverage on Samsung’s ultimate gaming monitor, it offers 49 inches still at 1800R curvature. It still allows you to just swivel your head to see everything clearly and easily from a single spot. You still get the 32:9 dual QHD resolution from the older regular Odyssey G9. It even comes standard with 240Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth frame rates when possible, and 0.3ms gray-to-gray response time for ultra-fast and responsive gaming. It still comes with AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro for tear-free gaming and visual experience for even more immersion when you game. There is also a new CoreSync and Core Lighting+ that cleverly lights up in RGB and according to what you see on your display to add even more immersion to your games and movies. If you do not want a bulky speaker set-up to take up space on your desk, there are even two 5W speakers to work with.

The biggest change to it, and its party piece, is the OLED panel that this one comes with. It now offers a true HDR experience with DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 standard. That also means that you are not just getting vivid colours, but an inky black that is more accurately represented than before. You can even start to appreciate the incredibly vivid and bright colours that the Odyssey OLED G9 can now offer thanks to the typical OLED colour reproduction.

It is not just games that will pop on the display. You can now opt for the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) to come with TizenOS built right into the monitor to directly reach OTT services like Netflix or Prime Video. Since the display real estate is expansive enough, you can even opt to work with multiple views (Multi View) for the ultimate multitasking experience. It is modernized too, to take on the future world. It offers HDMI 2.1, Micro HDMI 2.1 and Display Port 1.4 inputs with Auto Source Switch+ so that you can work with multiple devices quickly. They redesigned the stands too, sturdier than ever while still allowing you to easily adjust its height and tilt.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is now available for MYR 9,499 (G93SC) onward. For MYR 500 on top of that (MYR 9,999), you can get the Odyssey OLED G9 with smart TV functionalities. You can head over to the nearest Samsung authorised dealer or Samsung official stores to get your hands on one of these gaming monitors. You can even head to their online stores to make a purchase. If you do get your monitor between now to 31st of August 2023 though, you get to buy your Odyssey OLED G9 for MYR 8,074 and MYR 8,499 respectively. Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G9 is Finally Available Soon, Starting with South Korea and the United States

Samsung launched their new Odyssey OLED G9 in CES 2023, which happened way back in January 2023. Alongside the Odyssey OLED G9, CES 2023 also saw Samsung showcasing their Dual UHD Odyssey Neo G9 ultra-wide gaming monitor, two UHD Smart Monitors, and a colour calibrated Viewfinity monitor. Of course, we thought that Samsung’s OLED version of their most acclaimed gaming monitor, the Odyssey G9, should be the most interesting thing they launched in CES 2023, even more so than their UHD version of the same monitor.

Six months of quietness on, Samsung finally officially launched the Odyssey OLED G9 for the global market. Well, when we say global; as per the title, Samsung launched the new 49-inch behemoth in South Korea. It will also be available in the United States market soon after it is available in South Korea.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 offers the ultimate gaming experience with an ultra-wide dual QHD resolution on its 49-inch screen real estate. Instead of a regular IPS display with subpar colour quality, the Odyssey OLED G9 offers the excellent colour saturation that is a signature of Samsung’s proprietary QD-OLED panel. It still offers 1800R curvature that is sure to wrap around you and offer the ultimate immersive gaming experience like no other. You get HDMI 2.1, Micro HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 port options for the most modern GPUs to fully take advantage of the fast 240Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, DisplayHDR True Black 400, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and NVIDIA G-SYNC capabilities.

Like other Samsung Odyssey G9 displays, the OLED version also offers RGB lighting at the back that can be synced with your actual display for added immersion and matched ambient lighting. Like any modern Samsung monitor as well, the Odyssey OLED G9 runs on Tizen. That means that you can technically use the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 without a PC connected to it. You can also connect the monitor to Bluetooth or WiFi speakers if you need to. Since it is running on Tizen, you can also connect it to your home WiFi and watch Netflix independently. If not, you can just mirror your Samsung smartphone to the display to take advantage of it.

In South Korea, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is now available for pre-order at KRW 2.7 million (MYR 9,710**). It is reported that the ultimate Samsung monitor will be available in the United States not too long after South Korea gets it. Speculations suggests that the monitor will be sold at about US$ 2,500 (MYR 11,546*) in the United States. You can expect to see the ultimate gaming monitor from Samsung coming to Malaysia in the coming months.

[CES 2023] Samsung Announces new Line-up of Monitors, Including the new Odyssey

CES 2023 is nigh, and Samsung took part. Not that it is a surprise. They announced a bunch of new home electronics that works with Smart Things. That was expected, especially if you did not miss Samsung’s CEO’s editorial on their upcoming CES 2023 showcase. What was not expected is the line-up of new PC monitors they introduced for CES 2023, and how nice they are.

Odyssey Neo G9 – the ‘U’ in UHD Means Ultimate Gaming Experience

They introduced yet another Odyssey Neo G9 to replace the old one, which was not that old in the first place. This is even better than before though, and more power hungry than before. Instead of dual QHD 1440p, this time you get twice more resolution at dual 4K UHD resolution.

Of course, with more resolution, you need a bigger canvas to really appreciate the resolution. You get 57-inch this time, an 8-inch upgrade over the older monitor. It is still a 1000R curve, which still means you sit the same distance as before and get more immersion out of the display.

Of course, you get everything that was great about the older monitor too. The 4K UHD panel is a quantum mini LED panel, which also means colours are just as vivid as before. With VESA Display HDR1000 specifications, your eyes will still be screaming in pain when you crank it up all the way.

You want to make sure your PC offer the latest HDMI 2.1 port or DisplayPort 1.4 to take advantage of the Odyssey Neo G9’s resolution. On top of an HDMI 2.1 port, you get a future-proof DisplayPort 2.1 port on the display for you to really get your games to 240Hz with the dual UHD panel. Then again, you do want to get yourself the latest and most powerful GPU to get even close to that speed with virtually two UHD monitors strapped on it.

57-inch is also quite large for a 1m viewing distance. 49-inch is still a lot to take in still for your desk, dual QHD at 240Hz is still plenty to take in for not just yourself, but even the most powerful PCs you can find today. Quantum mini LED technology may look great, but it will still have nothing on an OLED panel, especially a quantum dot OLED panel.

The OLED display offers a pixel-by-pixel lighting control, allowing for an even lifelike image darker blacks than ever and crisper HDR images than before. The OLED panel also offers up to 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, for even better detail even when in the dark spots. OLED technology also offers a response time like no other at up to 0.1ms. It still offers 240Hz, which is plenty enough to handle for even the most powerful GPUs today.

The 49-inch 1800R ultra-wide monitor is also even better if you want to keep your entertainment simple with just one primary monitor. There is a Smart Hub packed into the 49-inch monitor so that you can enjoy contents from Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and even YouTube even without a PC hooked up to it. You can even game without a PC with this one; Samsung’s Gaming Hub offers access to Xbox’s gallery of cloud enabled games, and NVIDIA GeForce Now cloud gaming library.

The ViewFinity series is new from Samsung. They are not new to highly calibrated and colour accurate display though. That also means that Samsung taking this long to offer a calibrated display for the professionals the real shock.

The ViewFinity S9 offers 5K resolution from a 27-inch panel. The 5,120 by 2,880 pixels offers up to 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage for the best colour reproduction you can get on a monitor. It offers Delta E ≤ 2 as well for the most accurate colour reproduction. If you need to make more calibration to your monitor, there is a smartphone app for it, which is unsurprising coming from Samsung.

For some flexibility, the monitor offers USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity for your PC. That means that the ViewFinity S9 is now a Thunderbolt 4 hub for your connected PC. Offered with the ViewFinity S9 is also a 4K SlimFit camera that offers native connectivity to Google Meet meetings even without a PC connected to it. Yes, it packs Samsung’s Smart Hub too so it can be your entertainment hub all the same.

A gaming and professional calibrated monitor are very specific things. They are quite costly items too for overly specific purposes. You might need a regular monitor optimized for work and does everything else on the side. You need a Smart Monitor M8.

Availability

Samsung’s new Odyssey, ViewFinity, and Smart Monitor is available for showcase in CES 2023. There are no mentions on when the displays will be available for purchase. We are betting that it will be available within 2023. There are no mentions on prices either. It is Samsung we are talking about though, and they are pretty high-end monitors, so we are guessing ‘premium’ would be the way to describe their asking prices.
