CGTN: What does a people-centered philosophy mean for China?

BEIJING, June 19, 2021 — In China’s fight against COVID-19, more than 39 million members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) fought the virus on the frontline while over 13 million volunteers rendered their services at the community level. Nearly 400 of them laid down their lives in the process of saving others.

United as one and determined to save every life at all costs, China has been one of the most successful in containing the virus.

This is one vivid example that demonstrates China’s commitment to a people-centered philosophy.

Rooted in history
Adherence to a people-centered philosophy has been the key to CPC’s success in the past 100 years. From 57 members represented by 13 deputies at the first National Congress in 1921, the CPC has grown into a 91-million-strong entity that governs a country of 1.4 billion people.

Laying the basis of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the CPC led China to overcome obstacles in the way of its development, helping it stand on its feet and grow stronger till it eventually became the world’s second-largest economy.

"People are the creators of history. They are the fundamental force that determines our Party and the country’s future," said Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Commitment to the world
As COVID-19 continues to ravage the world, many countries have restricted grain exports. Resultantly, the number of people facing acute food insecurity hit 155 million last year – the highest in last five years.

However, China is doing its part to ensure global food security by reducing grain imports and moderately increasing the exports of wheat and rice. It also continues to assist other developing countries within the framework of South-South cooperation.

Domestically, China met its poverty alleviation target by the end of 2020, lifting nearly 100 million people out of poverty over the past eight years.

In the next five years, China plans to take a series of measures, such as improving people’s incomes, boosting employment and building a high-quality education system.

"To ensure that the people enjoy a happy life is the ultimate goal of all our work and is an important manifestation of our Party’s fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly," Xi said.

Xi has constantly urged the CPC members to stay true to the Party’s founding mission, which is to serve the people.

OPAS: A Game-Changer in Post Covid-19 Landscape

PORTLAND, Ore., May 31, 2021 — We believe that it’s safe to say that Covid-19 will likely be one of the defining events of 2021, and it will further have implications that will keep surfacing for years to come.

The situation is drastically changing, and the amount of people that are deemed safe to gather in a place has reduced from thousands to hundreds to ten. Movie theaters, bars, restaurants, and gyms in most major cities are shutting down. And that’s not all; many office workers are facing new challenges that involve working from home.

Post Covid-19 and the changing trends of online shopping

People are coming to terms with the realities of the post-Covid-19 world, and they understand how difficult it will be for things to go back to normal. To say that we’re living in an unprecedented time feels like an understatement.

One of the main responses we’ve seen to how people are approaching this period of uncertainty and isolation is in severe overnight changes to their shopping behaviors, and that’s not all; the latest travel restrictions have also stopped person-to-person exchanges. From bulk buying to online shopping, people are changing what they’re buying how and when.

Amid this uncertainty, OPAS has emerged as a one-stop shop for all your shopping needs, no matter where you’re living in the world.

What can OPAS do for you?

The post-Covid-19 landscape doesn’t leave much room for international shipping. The main reason for this is the new healthcare regulations. Stores that are operating on a smaller scale don’t have the personnel or experience needed to handle post-Covid-19 international shipping.

OPAS will make sure that you get what you want, no matter where you live. Shopping from the US amid the pandemic has never been easier, thanks to OPAS. OPAS will provide you your own US address so your purchases can get shipped there. Once you have everything you want in your virtual mailbox, you can easily log into your account and request to have your items shipped to your original address in your native country.

No Sales Tax? YES – OPAS can do that for you

Almost every package forwarding company will charge you Sales Tax. Therefore, on every purchase, you will be charged sales tax. OPAS can get you your favorite products without having to pay any sales tax. How is that possible? OPAS is located in the state of Oregon, which has NO SALES TAX. So any product that you’ve shipped to your OPAS address will have no sales tax. This will allow you to save almost 7% to 10% on your purchases compared to other package forwarding companies.

OPAS has emerged as a game-changer for industries and individuals who aren’t willing to compromise on the things they want. OPAS will hand pack each of your products, making sure that they will stay in perfect shape when it reaches your doorstep.

Aon’s New Vaccine Supply Chain Solution to Benefit Response Fund for the World Health Organization

Aon will donate all 2021 revenues from new solution that protects global COVID-19 vaccine shipments to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

CHICAGO, May 25, 2021 — Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions, has announced it will donate 100 percent of all 2021 revenues earned from its new vaccine supply chain solution to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, powered by the WHO Foundation and the United Nations Foundation in support of the World Health Organization (WHO). Aon commits to donating a minimum of $100,000.

Delivered through broad industry collaboration, Aon’s recently launched solution provides supply chain protection for global COVID-19 vaccine shipments and is designed to help maximize the number of doses that are administered to the public. The solution provides transparent cargo insurance coverage for COVID-19 vaccines and combines sensor data and analytics to deliver timely payment for doses that fall outside of the agreed-upon temperature range while being transported or stored. Qualified parties in the vaccine supply chain are eligible, including pharmaceutical firms, government bodies, transportation and logistics companies, distributors, health systems, pharmacy chains and inoculation centers.

"As we continue to move toward the ‘New Better’ and have seen incredible progress in some areas when it comes to vaccine distribution, the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting communities around the world in unprecedented ways and its impact will continue to reverberate for years to come," said Greg Case, CEO, Aon. "By benefitting the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, our new collaborative solution is not only providing first-hand support in supply chain management, but also aiding other critical life-saving efforts of the WHO Foundation."

The COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the WHO is the only way for individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations around the world to directly support the work of the WHO and its partners to help countries prevent, detect and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of May 2021, the fund has put more than $250 million in donations to work. Donations support the WHO’s efforts including suppressing worldwide transmission of the virus, reducing mortality, protecting the vulnerable and accelerating equitable access to new COVID-19 tools.

"Navigating vaccine distribution at a global scale is one of the most immediate and pressing hurdles facing our leaders today," said Paul Kim, Head of Strategy and Product Development, Commercial Risk Solutions at Aon. "It is an honor to support the WHO Foundation to maximize the impact of our efforts. We are proud to not only provide an innovative offering to help work toward equitable global distribution, but to also directly benefit a fund that is impacting communities around the world in the fight against COVID-19."

CGTN:China makes new pledges to help developing countries defeat COVID-19

BEIJING, May 22, 2021China on Friday announced several new measures to help developing countries tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and its sweeping impacts, pledging to contribute $3 billion in the next three years and provide more vaccines.

Addressing the Global Health Summit via video link, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the world’s leading economies to remedy deficiencies, close loopholes and strengthen weak links in fighting "the most serious pandemic in a century."

The summit was co-hosted by the European Commission and Italy, chair of the Group of 20 (G20) this year.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 165 million, with more than 3.4 million deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

‘Close the immunization gap’

"A year ago, I proposed that vaccines should be made a global public good," Xi said. "Today, the problem of uneven vaccination has become more acute."

More than 1.1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered globally, but over 80 percent of those were administered in high and upper-middle income countries, with just 0.3 percent of inoculations taking place in low-income countries, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said earlier this month.

China has supplied 300 million doses of vaccines to the world; it has provided free vaccines to more than 80 developing countries in urgent need and exported vaccines to 43 countries, Xi noted, adding that China will provide more vaccines to the best of its ability.

China supports its vaccine companies in transferring technologies to other developing countries and carrying out joint production with them, he said.

Reaffirming China’s support for waiving intellectual property rights on COVID-19 vaccines, he said the country "supports the World Trade Organization and other international institutions in making an early decision on this matter."

He raised a proposal for setting up an international forum on vaccine cooperation to promote fair and equitable distribution of vaccines around the world.

"We must uphold fairness and equity as we strive to close the immunization gap," Xi stressed. "It is imperative for us to reject vaccine nationalism and find solutions to issues concerning the production capacity and distribution of vaccines, in order to make vaccines more accessible and affordable in developing countries."

More financial support

China has already provided $2 billion to help with developing countries’ responses to COVID-19; it has sent medical supplies to more than 150 countries and 13 international organizations, providing more than 280 billion masks, 3.4 billion protective suits and four billion testing kits to the world, according to Xi.

"China will provide an additional $3 billion in international aid over the next three years to support COVID-19 response and economic and social recovery in other developing countries," he announced.

Xi, the leader of the world’s largest developing country, mentioned "developing countries" 11 times in a speech that lasted less than seven minutes, calling on G20 members to do more to help them and address their concerns.

"China is fully implementing the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative for Poorest Countries and has so far put off debt repayment exceeding $1.3 billion, the highest deferral amount among G20 members," he said.

It is essential that G20 members continue to support developing countries by such means as debt suspension and development aid, said the Chinese president.

Xi went further to call for improvement in the global governance system. G20 countries should strengthen and leverage the role of the United Nations and the WHO and improve the global disease prevention and control system, the Chinese president said.

"It is important that we uphold the spirit of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, fully heed the views of developing countries, and better reflect their legitimate concerns," he added.

Xi repeated his call for solidarity and cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and building a global community of health for all.

"The pandemic is yet another reminder that we, humanity, rise and fall together with a shared future," he said. "We must champion the vision of building a global community of health for all, tide over this trying time through solidarity and cooperation, and firmly reject any attempt to politicize, label or stigmatize the virus."

CGTN: True Colors Are shown in Crisis

BEIJING, May 15, 2021 — Crises are an unavoidable part of human history. And the response to a crisis can make a difference in a country’s development.

CGTN:True colors are shown in crisis
CGTN:True colors are shown in crisis

On May 12, 2008, a major earthquake jolted Wenchuan, a county of Sichuan Province in southwest China. The government’s speed in responding then amazed the world.

About 10 minutes after the disaster hit, China’s emergency response office issued a statement on the situation from Beijing, and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) activated its preparedness plan.

Just 21 minutes after the quake, four helicopters were dispatched to survey the damage, and 6,100 officers and soldiers from neighboring areas and over 3,000 members of the Sichuan Armed Police Force deployed to the scene.

In less than 10 hours, 20,000 troops and armed police were at the disaster sites assisting with relief work, with an additional 34,000 security officers on their way.

The speed at which a government reacts to disasters speaks to its capacity to solve problems and its resilience.

COVID-19 has provided another stern test.

In the early stages of the outbreak, Wuhan in Hubei Province was in dire need of medics and equipment. The government rushed more than 330 medical teams comprising over 40,000 healthcare workers to the city.

Nineteen provinces were corralled to provide direct assistance to other surrounding provincial communities.

At first, the lockdown of Wuhan elicited confusion and even panic.

But the government provided timely updates and addressed the challenges that came with lockdown through grassroots community actions mobilized by local authorities.

In doing so, the spread of the virus was curbed and social stability maintained.

"I have never seen, in my life, this kind of mobilization," said World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom. "China’s speed, China’s scale and China’s efficiency… is the advantage of China’s system."

Not only did the government work on measures to tame COVID-19, but it also charted a 15-year socio-economic development blueprint.

China has proved itself adept at turning crises into opportunities.

"Roots of China’s Growth" is a 10-episode series marking the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which has presided over the country’s meteoric rise as a global power. The series focuses on 10 fundamental elements of the strategy that has led to China’s transformation from an impoverished nation over the past 100 years. This article is the first in the series.

Care Journey Orchestration Tackles Healthcare’s Biggest Operational Challenges

This innovative approach, already used in other industries, helps health systems refactor their costs, shift to be consumer-centric, and make reimbursement predictable, finds Frost & Sullivan

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 11, 2021 — The economics of healthcare have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtualized care is promising to enhance patient convenience, but productivity is at an all-time low urging a fresh approach to address the sustainability of healthcare. Care Journey Orchestration is revolutionizing how health systems can build on their foundational electronic health record (EHR) to personalize care delivery for every patient, increasing productivity and ensuring appropriate, reimbursable activity. Significantly, it enables continuity in the hybrid virtual care experience, so care can be efficiently coordinated beyond the four walls of the physical care setting, choreographing care plans, decisions, visits, and activity meeting the consumer where they are.

Frost & Sullivan’s latest thought leadership paper, 2021 Guide to Care Journey Orchestration, analyzes why leading health systems are adopting care journey orchestration platforms. It details how caregivers can leverage these solutions to stay ahead, boost margins, and enhance patient loyalty.

To download the complimentary white paper, please visit: http://frost.ly/565

"Orchestration eliminates gaps between silos and allows health systems to raise quality, reduce cost, and personalize the care journey to the specific needs of the individual," explained Daniel Ruppar, Healthcare & Life Sciences | Consulting Director at Frost & Sullivan. "A care journey orchestration platform enables health systems to enhance patient loyalty and outcomes while improving financial and operational performance."

"Lumeon’s cloud-based orchestration platform acts as an agility layer to supplement limited orchestration capabilities in the EHR," added Robbie Hughes, chief executive officer at Lumeon. "It moves beyond the point solutions that exist today to eliminate fragmentation and extend care beyond the four walls of the hospital to drive significant cost savings. Overall, it helps care teams work at the top of their license by automating repetitive tasks, reducing care delivery costs, increasing productivity, and delighting patients with care delivered on their own terms."

Care journey orchestration brings a timely opportunity to:

  • Offer personalized, consumer-centric experiences.
  • Blend virtual and physical care into a single, coordinated journey.
  • Proactively coordinate tasks and decisions at the right time for every patient.
  • Guide patients proactively through a personalized pathway, increasing loyalty and quality.

Taiwan’s innovative technology allows for germ eliminating fabric by making use of semiconductor mechanics

TAIPEI, Jan. 29, 2021 — With COVID-19 becoming more deadly with mutations and secondary infections becoming more frequent, people have shifted our focus from using protective masks to rushing and cutting lines to get the new vaccine. A company has created a textile that is about to be a game changer in our virus invested world. A few days ago, ACTife released a new technology for antibacterial fabric. These textile materials utilize semiconductor sputtering technology, which uses silver, copper and titanium sputtering to produce a hydroxyl radical on the surface of the fabric. Because hydroxyl radicals can destroy viruses and bacteria in medicine and make their proteins lose their function. Therefore, the materials developed by ACTife can not only block viruses and bacteria, but also use hydroxyl radicals to prevent contact with the bacteria and viruses while they are adsorbed on the surface of the fabric. This technology has been verified by the SGS, Boken, Intertek, and Japan SEK to effectively sterilize 99.9% of bacteria and germs. FYI https://health-ecoforum.medium.com/

The research team of Fu Jen Catholic University Taiwan published an anti-virus research report on ACTife’s nano sputtered fabric and Stated "The fabric successfully blocked and absorbed the germs and bacteria on the cloth, which prevented secondary infection of the virus." M. L.Chang, Chairman of ACTife, said: "This sputtering technology was originally used in semiconductors. When the pandemic broke out, our research team discovered that the three-metal nano-atoms of silver, copper and titanium used in medical materials had an excellent sterilization effect, so we began to develop products such as masks and protective gears. We look forward to this technology and what it can contribute to global pandemic prevention." This technology generates free radicals which causes the side chains of amino acids on the surface make proteins lose their function, thereby making germs harmless and greatly reducing the risk of infection. Not only can it apply to masks, but anything that uses fabric like towels, socks, clothing or air filters. CEO of ACTife Dr. Y. P. Lu also pointed out: "The advantage of physical antibacterial properties is that it makes the material more durable and does not precipitate any toxic or undesirable substances. As of now, the most used antibacterial chemical is bleach and the substance of bleach is actually a high concentration of sodium hypochlorite, which is well known for killing germs but it is harmful to the human body and the environment in terms of smell and touch.

The silver, copper, and titanium with splashes of ACTife Plating technology is a physical antibacterial technology that produces a free radical shield on the surface of the fabric. This highly active free radical shield eliminates bacteria and viruses that pass through it. It has the excellent function of long-lasting and washable resistance.
