Bring Some HONOR into Your Fitness Routine With Three New Health Products

HONOR Smart Fitness Devices

HONOR is expanding its offerings yet again with a few new additions. The company has already been actively producing AIoT and health related products since it was a Huawei sub-brand. Now, it’s continuing to do so on its own. HONOR has brought three devices made to help users achieve their fitness goals: the HONOR Band 7, HONOR Earbuds X5 and HONOR Scale 3.

Keep Track of Your Fitness with the HONOR Band 7

HONOR is upping the ante with the HONOR Band 7. The new entry into their fitness band line up brings an all new chipset powered by AI algorithms and professional optical components. These algorithms and sensors allow users to track metrics like heart rate more accurately and display it as easy to understand information.

HONOR Band 7

The Band 7 comes with a 1.47-inch AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass and comes with sensors that that allow it to track multiple health metrics. Users will be able to measure heart rate, sleep, stress and blood oxygenation. The Band 7 will display these metrics in real time on its display. It also comes with tracking modes for 96 different workout modes including running, walking, cycling, swimming, elliptical, rowing and free training.

See more than Weight with the HONOR Scale 3

Of course, keeping track of your fitness comes with the understanding that at some point you will need to check in with the scale. HONOR is trying to make your scale do more with the HONOR Scale 3 that is able to measure more than just weight. It is able to give you measurements of your body fat, BMI, bone mass, muscle mass and more. The Scale 3 can even calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR).

HONOR Scale 3

The Oceanic+ App is Live! Meet Your New Dive Computer, the Apple Watch Ultra.

Apple launched their most expensive wearable item back in September alongside their Apple iPhone 14 devices. They launched the new Apple Watch Ultra, which was made with space age technology and is built to endure the most extreme conditions you can subject your body to. One of them is to go down to depths you will only go as a scuba diver.

According to Apple, the Watch Ultra can go in depths up to 40 meters. While there are dive watches and computers that can go deeper than that, you want to remember that the Apple Watch Ultra is no bigger than the regular watch and is also built as a watch and fitness tracker you can take anywhere with you. In that sense, the Apple Watch Ultra is a feat on its own.

While it was able to go down to 40 meters under water, and into the ocean for that matter, you could only get basic information from it like a regular watch. It did not have the right tools to record your depth, or how much air you have left, or how long you’ve dived. Until now, that is, with the Oceanic+ app.

The app was also announced when they launched the Apple Watch Ultra, so it should not come as a surprise. The app is not an in-house developed one (developed by Huish Outdoors in collaboration with Apple), that could also be why it launched later than the Watch Ultra itself. It is still 2022 though, so it is not like we had to wait years for it.

The Oceanic+ app basically turns your Apple Watch Ultra into a rather comprehensive dive computer. They say that the app allows the Watch Ultra to act as an advanced dive computer and robust dive planner. Of course, you can review all information post-dive as well.

Source: Apple

The dive computer on the Apple Watch Ultra may not be similar to other dive computers you might have come across. They say that they have built the interface to be as intuitive as possible to be used on the Apple Watch platform. The interface is designed to allow users to quickly get information from the watch and dive stress free without making mental calculations during their dive. That also means that they need to cram and simplify as much information as they can into the tiny display that is the Apple Watch Ultra. It even gives users some form of directive to ensure their safety during the dive with “Stop”, “Go Up”, and even “Go Down”.

They have managed to integrate things like surface time, depth, and gas capacity into an interface that would be familiar to any Apple Watch user. On top of that, the dive planner gives you extra information like tides, water temperatures, weather updates, currents, and updated information uploaded by other users. It even tracks your GPS location, so you know where you are in your dives. You can even tell if you have a notification from the Apple Watch Ultra in the water with the Watch vibrating. They say you can even feel the vibration through a 7mm thick wetsuit. Haptic feedback, according to the developers, is a better way for your watch to communicate with you under water.

The Oceanic+ app is now available for the Apple Watch Ultra via the App Store. Of course, there is a companion app for your iPhone as well where you can view all sorts of information from your Apple Watch post-dive. The Apple Watch Ultra will set you back from MYR 3,799 onward, which is a lot of money for an Apple Watch. Then again, a dive computer will set you back just as much or more.

Garmin Updates the Forerunner 200 Series – The Forerunner 255 is Finally Announced

If you want to get a fitness tracker, and you have a good budget to work with, we will always put Garmin on the top of your list. They are, undoubtedly, the kings of fitness trackers at this point. They have the fēnix series, a multipurpose and extreme activity tracker at a premium price point. They also make the vívosmart series that is meant to be an entry-level fuss free fitness tracker.

They also make rather focused fitness trackers too, specific to different sport functions. One of the most popular models in their line-up is the Forerunner series. It is hardly surprising though, the Garmin Forerunner series is made specifically for running, one of the simplest activities you can do to start getting in shape. It is also probably something you have been doing for a while now.

Garmin introduced their Forerunner 245 about two years ago. The Forerunner 245 is made for the intermediate runners, or people who are already quite familiar with running. It packs all sorts of tech that a runner might want. You get GPS, an adaptive training plan feature, specific sensors to track your stride lengths, ground contact time, balance, and whatever you need to know about your running posture. Of course, there is a heart-rate sensor built into the watch.

That was two years ago, it is 2022 and the Forerunner 200 series needs a successor, a modern refresh of some sorts. Welcome to the Forerunner 255, the new and improved mid-range Forerunner.

Better in Every Way

  • Garmin Forerunner 255 2
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 9
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 8
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 7
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 6
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 5
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 4
  • Garmin Forerunner 255 3

Very much like the Forerunner 245 it replaces; it is made for the enthusiast runners. It is better though, with longer battery life – 14 days on a single charge. It has an accurate GPS as well, in GPS tracking mode, it will last up to 30 hours.

It is also lighter at just below 50g. It is so light; you are not going to feel any resistance or weight in your arms as you go for your run. Of course, you might want to wear it to sleep as well, which means the lack of weight will not affect your sleep at all.

They made it to be more durable too. The entire body is made to be as rugged as a runner’s watch can be. Its included silicon band is made to last a long time and to withstand plenty of sweat without disintegrating.

Of course, the Forerunner 255 also retains all its exercise tracking functions to not just track your running, but to improve your lifestyle as well. it features more than 30+ exercise modes including a triathlon mode to make the Forerunner 255 even more versatile than before. Its advanced sleep tracking function not only measure your sleep patterns and heart rate. It also gives you suggestions to improve your sleep and to get through your day.

If you are going for a race, the watch can also be your coach in recommending programs for you to hit your goals. It helps you understand your body a little better too with a recovery time recommendation and performance condition tracking. At the same time, the watch tracks your training history and intensity to optimise your trainings and fitness regimes. In a race, it can even predict your training’s impact and estimates your finishing time.

Of course, to keep track of everything, you do not need to just rely on the small watch face you get on the Forerunner 255. Despite the brilliant 1.3-inch display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, you still want to see all your efforts in a report on a larger display. That is where the Garmin Connect app compatibility comes in. It also supports Garmin Pay, in case you need to quickly pop-by for coffee or any other things.

Price and Availability

The Garmin Forerunner 255 is now available in the North American region. The most basic Forerunner 255 is retailing for US$ 349 (MYR 1,532*) onward. There is also a music variant that allows your Garmin Forerunner to connect to your wireless earbuds and play music directly from the smartwatch itself for US$ 399 (MYR 1,751*) onward. You can get your Forerunner 255 in either 41mm or 46mm watch face sizes. There are no announcements yet on its availability in other regions, including Malaysia. Of course, we expect to see Garmin launching their Forerunner 255 in Malaysia in the coming months.

The Garmin Instinct 2 is now officially in Malaysia, Now with Solar Charging for MYR 1,630 Onward

At this point, smartwatches are outselling regular watches. You even see some of your friends that are not big fans of wearing watches now wearing a form of smartwatch or fitness tracker. There is a very good reason to that.

A smartwatch or fitness tracker does not just tell time. They are more functional than regular watches because they now track your steps, your heart rate, your exercises, and much more. Smartwatches, because they are connected to your smartphone most of the time, are effectively your pagers now (pagers are like little SMS machines that predates even your mobile phones, if you do not know what that is). It also changes time zones with you without your input. It redefines what a toolwatch is.

If you ask us which smartwatch you should buy, and if budget is no object, we will always tell you to go out and get yourself a Garmin smartwatch or fitness tracker. Why? They are simply the best at this, currently. It is okay if you cannot fork out MYR 4,000 to buy a Garmin Fenix though. You can get this, the Instinct 2 at a fraction of the price and still have the best of Garmin.

2021111 INSTINCT 2 13639
Source: Garmin

It is still a Garmin fitness tracker cum smartwatch, so it does everything that a smartwatch and a fitness tracker does. Instead of being a one-stop-shop for everything that is fitness and adventure though, the Instinct 2 is a little more focused on different purposes. Still, if you need something completely general and unassuming – there is still the regular Instinct 2 for you to work with. If you are on a tight budget, you can still opt for one without the solar charging capability.

Yes, you did read that right, the Garmin Instinct 2 charges via solar now. Whichever Instinct 2 you pick as well, they are built to military standard 810 to ensure that the watch works in whatever condition you can throw it to, even in 100m of water depths. 45mm too big? There is The Instinct 2S too with 40mm bezels with all the bells and whistles from the larger Instinct 2.

2021111 INSTINCT 2 13655
Source: Garmin

As mentioned, the Instinct 2 series is more function focused than ever. There are three purpose-built editions to the Instinct 2 series now. You have the Surf Edition that allows you to keep track of data that you would need in any water sports category. It keeps you updated on wind speeds, tide conditions and more. You can even track your activities on the water and review them later.

There is also a Tactical Edition, a military type of edition made for the military person. You get Stealth Mode with this one too, we assume that is to dim down the screen so that it does not emit any lights. The screen is even usable with Night Vision Goggles for some reason. Of course, it is also a GPS tool to ensure that your location is always updated. Since it could be an essential military gear, Garmin added the Jumpmaster activity mode for when you go parachuting. This is a little overkill for a regular person though.

For regular adventurers, maybe the Camo Editions are good enough. It is a regular Instict 2 with everything that Garmin can offer in a fitness and adventure tracker, but in camo colour options. All of the Garmin Instinct 2 editions works Garmin’s Connect IQ app with access to the store for further personalisation of your Instinct 2.

The Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S is now available from Garmin official stores on Lazada and Shopee. You can also purchase an Instinct 2 watch from Garmin’s official distributor for Malaysia via AECO e-store and other authorised retailers. The Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S will set you back MYR 1,630 onward. For more information on the Garmin Instinct 2 series, you can head over to Garmin’s website.

Garmin Launches Their Latest Flagship fēnix 7 and epix Premium Smartwatches in Malaysia

When someone asks us about buying a smartwatch, we always come back with; “how much do you want to spend on our wrist wear?”. Most smartwatches should not set you back more than MYR 1,500 at this point. You can even get a Samsung Galaxy Watch4 for less than MYR 1,000 even. So why did we ask for your budget? Not really to see how rich you are, we want to know how serious you are in going for a smartwatch.

In that sense, if you have about MYR 5,000 to play with in your smart wearable wrist wear, we will always say; “go for something like a Garmin”. Garmin smartwatches and trackers have always been some of the highest regarded wearable in our books. They are built to the highest and most premium standards, and they have always been somewhat timeless. There are new ones on the block, and if you are in the market for a smartwatch at MYR 5,000, we think you should pay attention.

The Flagship – Garmin’s New fēnix 7 Series

GARMINFEBLAUNCH 17

Garmin’s flagship smartwatch has always been a little odd. They always offer coloured displays underneath premium materials and build quality that would put even Samsung to shame. They also offer battery life that is the envy of every wearable out in the market. But they do not offer touch screen capabilities. There is also a good reason for that, but we will not get too much into it because the new fēnix 7 does feature a touch sensitive display for the first time ever in their flagship line-up.

There are a whole slew of improvements made on the watch too that makes this fēnix 7 the best fēnix smartwatch there ever was. Its battery life has been improved by 300%, according to Garmin. Its solar charging capabilities has also been improved by 200%. All these improvements allow the fēnix 7X to last up to 24 days in UltraTrac mode, important when you are on an expedition.

The fēnix 7 series have always been made to be used in the great outdoors. In the great outdoors though is also where mishaps can happen. You might get stranded or lost, or even injured. The fēnix 7 series comes packing an improved multiband GNSS to allow for ultra-accurate tracking even if you are covered by the thick canopies of the forest. If not, the built-in flashlight of the fēnix 7X series can act as a morse code SOS signal display, other than lighting your way through the thick of the jungle or the dark of night.

Of course, you may not be always placed in such extreme conditions. You might want to just go for a simple jog, be it day and night. When you are feeling a little less adventurous, maybe the gym is a good idea. The fēnix 7 series comes packing with more than 40 built-in exercise modes. It now cleverly analyses and keeps track of your Real-Time Stamina when you go for a run, for you to monitor your best pace for the run. There is also an Up Ahead feature on the fēnix 7 watch via the Garmin Connect App to create routes and create checkpoints along the route. This might be useful in organised marathons. For night runs, the flashlight from the fēnix 7X will keep your path lit and light up red according to your arm swing for safety purposes.

The New Standard in Sports Monitoring – The Garmin epix with AMOLED Display

GARMINFEBLAUNCH 15

There is also a first for Garmin here. This is the first Garmin outdoor smartwatch to offer the brilliance of AMOLED displays. It sits under a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and you can opt for a lightweight and durable titanium alloy case for it. It is made to endure as much as the fēnix 7 series, if not more.

Like the fēnix 7 series, there are more than 40 sports modes on the epix. You can take it to the gym for a HIIT session, or strength training, or even go for a jog, and the Garmin epix will keep up with the right modes automatically. It is made for golf and skiing too. Within the watch is maps of over 42,000 gold courses around the world. It also packs 2,200 maps of ski resorts globally.

Its battery life may not be as impressive as the fēnix 7 series. With regular functions it will last up to 16 days, which is still an impressive number for modern smartwatches. Considering that this does not even have solar charging built into the case, it is also mighty impressive. If you need to go for longer excursions though, you can get the battery to be extended to 21 days with its clever Power Manager function. That is also while you are being GPS tracked.
