CEO of Kuaishou Su Hua: Kuaishou reaches 1 billion global monthly active users

BEIJING, June 24, 2021 — China Media Group (CMG) and Kuaishou held a joint press conference officially announcing a short video strategic partnership on Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Kuaishou now holds the official broadcasting rights for Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Kuaishou is the first short video and live-streaming platform globally to become an official broadcaster of the Olympics Games.

The new feature gathered over 63.9 billion interactions – defined as user comment and sending red packets – and even setting a new record of number of likes for an event. The feature has influenced users to now watch the New Year’s Gala on dual screens for a boosted experience.

Kuaishou is confident in providing top quality broadcast of the games as the platform is home to thriving sports communities and has much experience in hosting broadcasts about major sporting events. According to Su, there are nearly 50,000 high-quality sports content creators and 150 million users who are sports fans on Kuaishou. Currently, the sports content on Kuaishou covers sports like football, basketball, boxing, snooker, racing, extreme sports, and outdoor sports. In March, Kuaishou even became the official livestream and short video partner of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). The total views of the live streams during the 2020-2021 season reached a high of 810 million and achieved over 360 million interactions. Kuaishou users have also repurposed content from the live stream to create meaningful and enriching content of their own, indicating an extremely successful event.

For the Olympic Games partnership, Kuaishou announced plans to make use of its unique product capabilities and technological expertise to create a series of interactive features that can allow users to participate virtually as part of the Olympics. At the same time, Kuaishou is committed to improve its promotional methods of the games, to explore different angles of capturing the games and ensure full coverage of all events. CGTN: What does a people-centered philosophy mean for China?

BEIJING, June 19, 2021 — In China’s fight against COVID-19, more than 39 million members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) fought the virus on the frontline while over 13 million volunteers rendered their services at the community level. Nearly 400 of them laid down their lives in the process of saving others.

United as one and determined to save every life at all costs, China has been one of the most successful in containing the virus.

This is one vivid example that demonstrates China’s commitment to a people-centered philosophy.

Rooted in history
Adherence to a people-centered philosophy has been the key to CPC’s success in the past 100 years. From 57 members represented by 13 deputies at the first National Congress in 1921, the CPC has grown into a 91-million-strong entity that governs a country of 1.4 billion people.

Laying the basis of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the CPC led China to overcome obstacles in the way of its development, helping it stand on its feet and grow stronger till it eventually became the world’s second-largest economy.

"People are the creators of history. They are the fundamental force that determines our Party and the country’s future," said Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Commitment to the world
As COVID-19 continues to ravage the world, many countries have restricted grain exports. Resultantly, the number of people facing acute food insecurity hit 155 million last year – the highest in last five years.

However, China is doing its part to ensure global food security by reducing grain imports and moderately increasing the exports of wheat and rice. It also continues to assist other developing countries within the framework of South-South cooperation.

Domestically, China met its poverty alleviation target by the end of 2020, lifting nearly 100 million people out of poverty over the past eight years.

In the next five years, China plans to take a series of measures, such as improving people’s incomes, boosting employment and building a high-quality education system.

"To ensure that the people enjoy a happy life is the ultimate goal of all our work and is an important manifestation of our Party’s fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly," Xi said.

Xi has constantly urged the CPC members to stay true to the Party’s founding mission, which is to serve the people.

China’s global dominance in renewable energy is no accident. It is the result of the type of long-range planning that has become a well-known characteristic of the nation’s governance system. 

The bedrock of China’s economic planning has been its five-year plans that began in 1953 and were patterned initially after the centralized Soviet system. In the early years, the economic and production targets did not always go to plan, and officials made mistakes.

For instance, during the Great Leap Forward, an economic campaign in the late 1950s to transform China from an agrarian to an industrial economy, many targets were unmet because they were too ambitious. As a result, the campaign ended in disaster.

The country learned from that experience, devising attainable goals and consulting widely in subsequent years. It was not until the 1970s – and the unleashing of the groundbreaking "reform and opening-up" policies – that the world really sat up and took notice.

Since then, the CPC’s quinquennial strategic visionary planning has been widely credited with facilitating continuous economic expansion in China and underpinning its transformation into the world’s second largest economy. 

The heavy centralization of the past has been modified in favor of widespread buy-in for the national development goals. Hence, they have a greater chance of succeeding. Input is sought from government ministries, state enterprises, provincial administrations, scholars and think tanks, grass-root level CPC delegates, non-CPC political parties and the private sector.

The upshot is that China’s economy grew from over $76 billion (493 billion yuan) in 1981 to almost $16 trillion (100 trillion yuan) in 2020. The country’s per capita GDP was comparable to that of India’s in 1978 at about $200 (1,280 yuan). Today, it is five times larger than that of its neighbor at $10,000 (64,000 yuan).

China’s leaders often stress that the market should be allowed to play a decisive role in allocating resources, and the country can never go back to a dominant centrally planned economy.

Five-year plans combine the visible hand of the government and the invisible hand of the market to turn China into the world’s second largest economy.

E3, which stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo, is the largest video game exhibition in North America hosted by Entertainment Software Association, ESA, from the United States. This year, it will be held for four days from 16th in local time with more than 50 global game developers and publishers, including SKT, Xbox, Nintendo, and Ubisoft.

ANVIL: Developed by Action Squire, ANVIL is a multi-player co-op top-down sci-fi roguelike action shooter where players control characters called Vault Breakers to explore various galaxies that are filled with monsters.  

Little Witch in the Woods: Created by Sunny Side UP, Little Witch in the Woods is a pixel art-fantasy role-playing-game where players play as Ellie, a young witch who comes to a town and joins a witch’s house to study magical creatures, brew potions and to learn more witchcraft. 

VAPOR World: Developed by Alive, VAPOR World is an action and adventure game where players play in the inner world of mental patients. 

NEOVERSE: Created by Tinogames, NEORVERSE is a time warping multiverse game consisting of thrilling adventures that are packed with great and exciting challenges; combining roguelite, deck building and strategy gameplay all in one. 

Among the above four games, NEOVERSE became the first to be released as an Xbox game and 5GX Cloud Game in December 2020. The other three games will also launch on Xbox and 5GX Cloud Game gradually within this year. During the E3 Expo, visitors will be able to play the demo version of ANVIL and provide feedback to increase the level of completion of the game. 

SKT expects E3 2021 to raise the awareness of console games created by Korean game developers and help these developers expand into the global market.

Huawei Mobile Services Repeats BSI Information Security and Privacy Certification

SINGAPORE, June 3, 2021 — Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) has once again received the four globally authoritative certifications on information security and privacy protection — ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27018, ISO/IEC 27701, CSA STAR — from the British Standards Institution (BSI).

HMS had previously obtained the certifications in 2020, while in 2021 the BSI has extended its recognition to cover an additional five products. Currently, a total of 18 HMS products, including HUAWEI AppGallery, Themes, Petal Search, Petal Map and more in Asia Pacific markets such as Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand have obtained the BSI certifications.

ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27018, and ISO/IEC 27701 are globally authoritative certification standards, widely accepted and applied in the fields of information security management, public cloud personal information protection, and privacy information management. CSA STAR is a globally recognized cloud security management system certification that is widely used.
