Japanese Technologists Develop New Product “WAVING LED RIBBON” – Drawing Organic Lines in the air with Rippling Light

Used for the first time in a performance that brightens the future of SPORTS x TECHNOLOGY, “Opening For The Brighter Future”

TOKYO, July 25, 2020 — Stage Technologist Group mplusplus Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo / President and CEO, Representative Director: Minoru Fujimoto) has developed a “WAVING LED RIBBON” equipped with unique wireless synchronization functions and an LED infinite rotation mechanism. This product was used for the first time in a zero-audience performance “Opening For The Brighter Future” – released on Friday, July 24th, 2020 – to cheer up the world.

&nbsp;

 • WAVING LED RIBBON

“WAVING LED RIBBON” is a next-generation sports entertainment item that enables organic rippling LED light to draw lines in the air. Throwing the LEDs into the air and rotating them without breaking it was considered difficult from the perspective of durability and operability. However, in addition to the unique hardware and software that enables wireless synchronization of multiple devices, the development of a unique mechanism that allows the connection part to rotate infinitely has made possible the fantastic performance even making it look like computer graphics. mplusplus plan to expand the range of use in various stage productions including sporting and music events.

 • Opening For The Brighter Future

Since last year, the company has continued the development of the “WAVING LED RIBBON” in preparation for various upcoming international festivals in Japan. However, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, postponement and cancellation of events were unavoidable. In the absence of clients and no events to unveil our new product, the company believed that times like this is when entertainment is needed, and mplusplus carried out a performance in an empty indoor ballpark at Komazawa Olympic Park. This performance is performed by the Color Guard Performance Team “Via Colorguard”, which also suspended its activities due to the coronavirus. mplusplus aimed for a performance where the trajectory of the LED, condensed with Japanese technology and delicate expressions, shines a bright light on our future. The company strongly hope that people all over the world will enthuse to sports and entertainment again soon. Better days will return.

 • mplusplus Co.,Ltd.

In charge of a number of projects from world-famous companies such as the Toyota Motor Show booth and general direction of the Grand Mall Park for the Pokemon event “Pikachu Outbreak! 2019”, they are also expanding their business abroad – the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and ULTRA MIAMI. They are a stage technologist group established in 2013 by a researcher and media artist, Minoru Fujimoto.

They deliver a total performance from hardware development to stage direction, music composition, and costume design, using LED VISION FLAGs, wearable device and robots, all self-developed.

SmartSens Unveils SC500AI Next-Generation Image Sensor for Professional Security Market

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 23, 2020 — SmartSens Technology today announced the SC500AI widescreen smart image sensor, the latest product in the company’s AI Smart Sensor family.

SC500AI Wide Format 1620P Image Sensor
SC500AI Wide Format 1620P Image Sensor

The majority of 5MP security camera sensors offer a 4:3 aspect ratio that is not optimized for the widescreen format of modern LCD displays. The SmartSens SC500AI addresses this shortcoming with 1620P 16:9 5MP video output in the same form factor. This next-generation sensor presents a marked improvement over previous designs — narrowing the gap between image output and natural human vision.

SC500AI format comparison
SC500AI format comparison

SmartClarity Technology in the SC500AI increases the number of pixels by 20% compared to many 5MP products on the market—leveraging the full resolution of the sensor rather than cropping a 5MP 4:3 image down to 4MP to fit a 16:9 aspect ratio. This effectively reduces dark edges and distortion on both sides of the image due to uneven scaling while achieving a true 16:9 aspect ratio that includes an additional 10% of horizontal viewing area. The SC500AI achieves this crucial upgrade to match the majority of LCD displays on the market in applications such as security video and surveillance, which benefit from the sensor’s low dark current under high-temperature conditions, enhancing sensitivity and reducing read noise.

SC500AI specifications
SC500AI specifications

In a side-by-side comparison with SmartSens’ previous generation sensor, the new SC500AI reduces the dark current from 389 e- at 80˚C to 210 e-. The total RN, or Read Noise, is reduced from 0.75e- to 0.63e-. And the sensitivity level also shows a noticeable improvement, growing from 2800 mV/lux-sec to 3680 mV/lux-sec.

SC500AI specifications comparison
SC500AI specifications comparison

These improvements are made possible by SmartSens’ unique SFCPixel™ technology, which takes advantage of the close proximity between the source follower and the photodiodes to increase the sensitivity level, producing high-quality night-vision images. SmartSens’ proprietary PixGain® technology additionally enables the sensor to achieve excellent HDR performance even under glaring sunlight.

Existing customers of SmartSens’ previous-generation products of P2P will see a hassle-free system upgrade to the SC500AI, which is compatible with 1/3-inch 5MP lenses in a wide array for professional security products.

“SmartSens continues to build on its AI series of sensors, offering our customers a range of solutions utilizing the latest photosensor technologies to address the most challenging lighting conditions,” said Chris Yu, Chief Marketing Officer of SmartSens. “We continue to strengthen our portfolio to match new applications and our customers’ quickly-evolving needs.”

The SC500AI Image Sensor is available for testing immediately. For more information on the SC500AI or to request a sample, please contact SmartSens at cs@smartsenstech.com.

Chip Manufacturing Equipment Spending to Hit Record High $70 Billion in 2021 After Strong 2020, SEMI Reports

MILPITAS, California, July 22, 2020 — Global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment by original equipment manufacturers are projected to increase six percent to $63.2 billion in 2020 compared to $59.6 billion in 2019 before logging record high revenue of $70 billion in 2021 on the strength of double-digit growth, SEMI announced today in releasing its Mid-Year Total Semiconductor Equipment Forecast – OEM Perspective at the annual SEMICON West exposition.

Photo – https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/1214795/SEMI_REPORT.jpg

Growth across a number of semiconductor segments is expected to power the expansion. The wafer fab equipment segment – which includes wafer processing, fab facilities, and mask/reticle equipment – is expected to rise five percent in 2020 followed by 13 percent growth in 2021 driven by a memory spending recovery and investments in leading-edge and China. Foundry and logic spending, accounting for about half of total wafer fab equipment sales, will see single-digit increases in 2020 and 2021. Both DRAM and NAND spending in 2020 will surpass 2019 levels and are projected to grow over 20 percent, respectively, in 2021.

The assembly and packaging equipment segment is forecast to grow 10 percent to $3.2 billion in 2020 and 8 percent to $3.4 billion in 2021 driven by advanced packaging capacity buildup. The semiconductor test equipment market is expected to increase 13 percent, reaching $5.7 billion in 2020, and continue the growth momentum in 2021 on the back of 5G demand.

Regionally, Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea are expected to lead the pack in spending in 2020. Robust spending in Mainland China in the foundry and memory sectors is expected to vault the region to the top in total semiconductor equipment spending in 2020 and 2021. Taiwan equipment spending, after seeing 68 percent growth in 2019, is forecast to contract this year but bounce back with 10 percent growth in 2021, with the region maintaining the second spot in equipment investments. Korea is expected to rank third in semiconductor equipment investments in 2020 by outstripping its 2019 levels, making it the third top spender in 2020. Korea equipment spending is projected to grow 30 percent in 2021 powered by the memory investment recovery. Most other regions tracked will also see growth in 2020 or 2021.

The current SEMI forecast is based on collective input from top equipment suppliers, SEMI’s industry-recognized World Fab Forecast database, and SEMI’s Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS) data collection program.

The Equipment Market Data Subscription (EMDS) from SEMI provides comprehensive market data for the global semiconductor equipment market. A subscription includes three reports:

The material features improved flexibility and resiliency for a variety of glob-top, chip-on-board, chip-on-flex, chip-on-glass, and wire-tacking/bonding applications. It is well-suited for encapsulation of critical components on flexible and rigid circuit board materials such as FR-4, Kapton®, and glass, and contains no sharp, abrasive, mineral, or glass fillers to abrade fine wires.

Multi-Cure 9037-F has excellent moisture and thermal resistance, making it a good candidate for use as a corrosion guard for wire-bond connections in battery management systems. Additional uses include encapsulation of components on circuit boards found in automotive ADAS and infotainment systems, aerospace and defense applications, and consumer electronics. Formulated with blue fluorescing technology, the material is highly visible on encapsulated PCB modules when exposed to low-intensity black light for easy visual quality inspection.
