Anycubic Holds Printing Camps with Yale Funbotics to Introduce Children to the World of 3D Printers

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Jan. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Anycubic, a globally-renowned 3D printer company, wrapped up its Anycubic X Yale Funbotics 3D Modeling & Printing Camp on Dec 11. The company’s first education incubation project was held in collaboration with Yale Funbotics, with the aim of introducing 3D printing to children and how to build and use Anycubic 3D printers. The printing camp was also held in July and October and gave children an introduction to the world of 3D printers, an understanding of how a 3D printer works, and a general overview of 3D modeling, slicing, and 3D printer operations.

Introducing 3D printing to students

Inspired by Anycubic’s vision — “For Freedom to Make” — the company’s 3D printing education incubation project was founded in Shenzhen on September 2, 2020. The project embodies Anycubic’s aspiration of helping everyone to achieve the freedom of creation and invention using 3D printing technologies.

The Anycubic X Yale Funbotics 3D Modelling Printing Camps were designed for 4th to 12th-grade students. All the camps ran virtually over Zoom, and each lasted for three days. On the first day, the students were taught to assemble their 3D printers, the Anycubic Kobra, which is auto-leveling and beginner-friendly. After this assembling process, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of how a 3D printer works.

The next day, the printing camp students learned how to model designs in CAD. In this section, mentors guided the students on how to design basic objects, how to slice and print their objects, and helping them solve problems as they came up. By learning how to model more complex items, the children learned that designing is an iterative process and continuous adjusting and troubleshooting is part of the design process.

On the last day, students learned how to slice, print, and troubleshoot their own models. This class showed the children how troubleshooting is part of the design process, and that when a print doesn’t work, it doesn’t constitute a failure but is simply a normal part of learning about 3D printers. This motivated students to try again – tweaking the measurements of the design, adding more support, and adjusting the printing temperature – increasing their satisfaction when the print does eventually work.

The difference that the 3D print camps made for Anycubic and Funbotics

Yale Funbotics is a non-profit organization that was founded to provide the resources, technology, and opportunities for under-represented youth to ignite their passion about STEM. The founder of Yale Funbotics, Pranav Avasarala, said:” Providing 3D printers to these students gave them a new avenue to unleash their imagination and fall in love with STEM. From pencil and phone cases to Harry Potter wands, the kids were thrilled by how much they could create and excited to experiment with new designs.

The Anycubic X Funbotics camps not only introduced and showed young students how much fun STEM is but gave them the opportunity and resources to pursue the field in the future. Funbotics plans to continue our partnership with Anycubic to promote STEM education in underrepresented communities. We are working on adding to the 3D modeling and printing curriculum to teach students how to print, assemble and program their own autonomous robots. We are also opening our Funbotics Lab Centers for students to come and work on their engineering projects. We are incredibly grateful to the Anycubic team – without your support, such a monumental impact would not have been possible.”

“3D printing technology is a powerful learning tool to enhance STEM Teaching and Learning and can involve people in active learning, design thinking, and problem-solving. We are excited to join Funbotics to promote STEM education with the 3D Modeling and Printing Camps. Seeing the students actively engaging in the design process, unleashing their imagination, and completing some real-world product design tasks with 3D printed prototypes makes us think, “3D printing is helping the youth change the world,” said James Ouyang, Vice President of Anycubic. “We have much appreciated the help from Yale Funbtics. These 3D print camps have established an excellent springboard for us to promote the incubation program overseas. We look forward to achieving more success in our future collaboration”.

Allschool Launches “Homeschooling Supplemental Classes”, Inviting Homeschool Veterans to Share Their Experiences and Giving Homeschool Families a Head Start

SAN MATEO, Calif., July 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Allschool, an innovative online education platform, announced the launch of a new initiative, Allschool Homeschooling Supplemental Classes, a celebrity-backed program which invites homeschool parents to share their success stories and offers tips and inspiration to families who are seeking to create an interactive and fun at-home learning space for their children.

To complement its online homeschool support, Allschool connects with homeschoolers and their families at the Homeschool Association of California (HSC) Conference 2022, which is running from July 28 through 31. At the annual state-wide event that packs in a wide range of activities for participants to have fun and get informed, Allschool showcases its homeschooling solutions and introduces its educational philosophy with the goal of unlocking the potential of home education.

Transitioning into full homeschool routines takes time and effort, and many families have to go through a painful period overwhelmed by stress before coming to enjoy the flexibility and benefits that homeschooling offers. Targeting the challenges that new homeschool parents have to confront from the outset of this journey, Allschool aims to establish a sharing platform with the new initiative backed by home-school veterans, where parents who are new to at-home education can receive adequate guidance and support, easing their concerns as they kick-start and navigate the homeschooling adventures with their kids.

Meet Amy, a homeschool mom of five and homeschooling resource pro

Amy Milcic was a mental health therapist by trade with a master’s degree in Psychology and Therapy before she became a homeschool parent. She had a rocky start with a fair amount of anxiety when she began the daunting task of homeschooling her five boys. She struggled with what resources to choose, subjects to focus on, and all the fine details that come with teaching.

“When we first started homeschooling, I thought you had to replicate public school at home – with a strict schedule and spending so much time per subject or it wasn’t real,” she recalled. But she came to fully embrace the flexibility of homeschooling retinues as she explores the benefits that a customized learning environment catering to the needs of her boys can offer.

However, she also shared the same worry that troubles many homeschool families – a parent cannot be an expert in all subjects that kids learn and might not be able to offer support to every facet of their lives, especially in terms of socializing. Allschool opened a new space that engaged her sons’ unique way of learning.

“I want to help my younger boys experience more interactive classes. I feel like they could really benefit from learning from other people. Allschool has such a wide variety of topics and supportive teachers that can help me provide my boys with those types of opportunities,” she said.

Homeschool as an emerging trend

Homeschooling has experienced a boom during the COVID-19 pandemic across the US, with the homeschooler number in 18 states jumping by 63% in the 2020 – 2021 school year. This trend appears here to stay after the 2021 – 2022 school year witnessed only a 17% dip in the number of homeschooling students.

Despite the soaring interest, many parents balk at the challenges ahead and lack the resources to get started. Allschool creates a one-stop online learning community full of high-quality educational content that can help parents to embark on their homeschool journey with ease.

“The mission of Allschool is to allow parents and homeschoolers to leverage the power the online learning to access a full range of premium courses purpose-built to fit the educational needs of learners of all ages. With the help of our powerful digital tools, we partner with experienced teachers to design engaging and interactive classes to boost their participation and address the pain points of homeschooling,” said Jack Shan, Co-Founder of Allschool.

CGTN: Children: From ‘saplings’ to ‘forest’ for Chinese nation

BEIJING, June 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Children are highly valued in the Chinese culture and viewed as the future of a family. Furthermore, their growth is vital for the future of China, a nation determined to achieve rejuvenation.

International Children’s Day, which falls on June 1, is celebrated across China every year. Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday stressed efforts to promote the healthy and all-round development of children and extended festive greetings to children across the country.

Two months ago, Xi compared children to “saplings” when attending a tree-planting activity in Beijing, encouraging them to contribute to the country’s development.

“You are like saplings,” he said. “You will eventually grow into towering trees in the future and form a forest for the Chinese nation, a forest of talents.”

Underscoring China’s goal to build a great modern socialist country with Chinese characteristics by the middle of the century, he said, “You have 30 years to go. Now you are 10 years old, and you will be 40 at that time. You will become the pillars of the country.”

Xi encourages children to chase their dreams

Xi loves children and always encourages them to chase their dreams.

“A better life for children is our biggest wish,” Xi said when taking part in an event ahead of International Children’s Day in 2013.

Celebrating the festival in 2014 with students at a primary school, he said children are the future of the country and the hope of the Chinese nation.

“Heroes are cultivated from a young age. The waves behind drive on those ahead. I hope you live with dreams and aspirations,” he told the students.

In May 2013, Xi visited a school in Lushan County of Ya’an City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, weeks after a magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck the area. In a prefabricated classroom, he attended a class meeting with pupils and encouraged them to work hard in chasing their dreams.

Nine years later, a former pupil who was in the classroom recalled Xi’s words.

“I was sitting in the front row when Grandpa Xi was standing in front of the class. With a smile, he asked what our dreams were,” said Luo Yunfang. “I remember my answer was to work as an editor because I love writing. Grandpa Xi was very pleased. He praised us for our imagination.”

Luo, now a student at Chengdu University of Technology, said she is making her dream come true.

“I joined the media center of our school and have written a lot of articles. I’m kind of living my dream bit by bit,” she said.

China’s efforts in protecting children’s rights

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, governments at all levels have been providing unprecedented care to children and youth, from ensuring equal access to education and sending teachers to impoverished mountain villages to investing to upgrade facilities in rural areas.

The country has put in place a legal system of more than 100 laws and regulations that comprehensively protect the rights and interests of women and children, according to a white paper released in June last year by the State Council Information Office.

Several laws and regulations have been newly drafted or amended over the past decade to further strengthen the protection of the rights and interests of minors. Two major moves are a revision to the minor protection law, which came into effect on June 1, 2021, and the Law on Family Education Promotion implemented on January 1, 2022.

Meanwhile, China is stepping up efforts to reduce the excessive workloads of students to promote healthy and all-round development.

In July last year, China launched a “double reduction” policy to address the excessive academic burden on primary and middle school students and the over-heated off-campus tutoring.

After the implementation of the new policy, offline off-campus training institutions that offer curriculum subject programs have been reduced by 83.8 percent nationwide, and online training institutions have been reduced by 84.1 percent, data from the Ministry of Education showed.

Tencent Teams Up with SOOS OIO to Level Up Healthy Gameplay in Singapore

A series of hybrid events to promote intergenerational communication and digital wellbeing amongst local youths

SINGAPORE, May 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — With the number of video gamers in Singapore expected to hit 3 million by 2026, video and mobile gaming has touched the lives of many internet users, serving as a conduit to form meaningful social connections and a platform to cultivate prosocial behaviours. Against this landscape, Tencent has partnered local social enterprise SOOS OIO to organise a series of parenting webinar, workshops and community gaming tournaments at this year’s Digital For Life Festival, organised by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

The events, which span across two weekends (21-22 May, 28-29 May), seek to advocate digital wellness among the public, and more specifically support the growth of a healthy, inclusive and balanced gameplay environment for everyone in Singapore. The collaboration taps on SOOS OIO’s local networks and experience working with Singaporean parents and youths, as well as Tencent’s global expertise in shaping a positive gameplay environment.

“We are proud to be part of the Digital For Life Festival to drive greater awareness about the importance of digital wellness, and how the digital sphere, including online gaming, enables new possibilities and empowers the digital society,” said Stanley Sun, head of publishing technology services of Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG) at Tencent. “As a game publisher, we continuously work to build a healthy and inclusive gaming ecosystem, in close collaboration with organisations like SOOS OIO in Singapore.”

SOOS OIO believes that video and mobile gaming serve not only as a social platform for community building, but an educational medium to develop critical thinking and communications skills. “Play is an integral part of learning and we believe that video gaming constitutes play on a different playground. It offers development for every youth across cognitive, emotional and social aspects,” said Pauline Phoon, founder of SOOS OIO. “Misconceptions around gaming often arise from a lack of understanding about the nature of games and the benefits it can bring. Together with Tencent, we hope to bring awareness among parents and community in Singapore about the various ways gaming can be leveraged for digital wellness, social and cognitive skills, and most importantly – as a means of connecting with children.”

“We thank SOOS OIO, Tencent and all partners for joining us to organise the parenting workshops and community gaming tournaments at the inaugural Digital for Life Festival, enabling our youths to learn the importance of healthy gaming, while strengthening social connections between family, friends and community,” said Ms Dawn Low, Cluster Director for Digital Readiness and Digital for Life programme office at IMDA.

Accompanying her sons to the community gaming tournament (TeleMatch Brawl Stars) on May 22, Anne Soh, mother of Jesse Tan (23 years old) and Jakin Tan (21 years old), shared, “I am glad that my sons are now able to share their strategies for healthy gaming with others through various platforms like social media and casting for competitions. From having to adhere to time limits I set for them when they were young, they have now progressed to being able to self-regulate their gaming schedules. I hope more parents will be able to engage with their children on ways to integrate gaming into a healthy and balanced lifestyle.”

Through the various activities planned for the Digital For Life Festival 2022, Tencent and SOOS OIO hope to demystify gaming for parents, engage youths to form healthy gaming habits, foster healthy familial relationships through gaming, and realise the benefits of play for everyone. These activities include:

Webinar on Understanding Games, Gamers and Game Dependency

During the webinar, parents were equipped with the framework needed to better understand games, gamers and game dependency, which allowed them to better appreciate the motivations behind certain gaming behaviour. The participants were also exposed to various communication strategies as well as a brief introduction to neurofeedback intervention – with the overall goal of improving parent-child communication and relationships.

Parenting Challenge Workshops: Communicating & Engaging Gaming Youths at Home through Role Play

As a follow up to the webinar, participants put the theories and communications strategies learnt to good use through role play sessions of common scenarios in families. These practical sessions helped to contextualise the learnings and deepened participants’ understanding of the theories through re-enactment in a safe environment.

TeleTrip Festival

Families and friends teamed up to battle each other in a casual and community-style gaming tournament, uniquely designed to be inclusive and fun for all. Two family-friendly game titles, Brawl Stars and Roblox: Super Striker League were featured in the telematches – albeit with a twist through a special rewards system that celebrates a myriad of accomplishments, beyond just the highest score. This serves to ignite participants’ creative, strategic gameplay and teamwork while ensuring that the games are accessible to every member of the family.

Following its Singapore office launch in late 2020, Tencent recently launched Level Infinite, the company’s global games publisher arm in Singapore. “Through our collaborations, we are also enabling the sustainable growth of the gaming industry by nurturing young talents, supporting local studios and investing in innovation in Singapore, and around the world,” Sun concluded.
