Goodday Charge Is Looking for Malaysia’s First Senior eSports Team with its Boomers2Gamers Competition

eSports and gaming have faced uphill battles regarding public perception and misconceptions. For the longest time, gaming has been seen as a “waste of time” or even a “lazy activity” regardless of its platform. eSports, on the other hand, has come under fire for not being “sporty” enough and a “sedentary” activity. However, in recent years, scientific research has shown that gaming helps with mental acuity and interpersonal skills. More and more research has been pointing to gaming and eSports being as intense as regular sports.

Goodday Charge Boomers2Gamers KV

Goodday – yes, the milk company – is looking to help deliver this message to Boomers and those with these common misconceptions. To do that, they are looking to form Malaysia’s first senior esports team. For the first time, you’ll need to be at least 50 years old to take part in this gaming competition. You simply have to submit your application at the Goodday Charge website. (psst…. if you’re under 50 years old, just submit an application for your Boomer!) Once the application goes through, there will be a round of interviews after which 10 successful applicants will undergo a comprehensive gaming crash course. They will also be able to win their share of RM20,000 worth of prizes.

Those of us who follow esports will be familiar with the rigours and training that esports athletes go through. Well, the 10 Boomers who make it into the team will be put through a 3-day boot camp. During this boot camp, they will be put through the same training that the athletes go through. Of course, they won’t be doing those Karate Kid runs and exercises but they will be getting a taste of the rigours of an esports athlete. Their course will cover five essential pillars: Trained Skill, Strategy, Exercise, Diet and Sleet, Teamwork and Communication. The competition will culminate in a three-day training and preparation period with a 5v5 competition of Counter Strike 2.

“We hope through this experience, the older generation will come to understand and appreciate the
effort, skill and dedication displayed by esports professionals and move towards accepting that it is in
fact a sport on par with others. I look forward to gamers and enthusiasts using this as an opportunity to
share their world and experiences with their elders by signing them up for the search.”

Amy Gan, VP of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd

The competition comes on the heels of Goodday sponsoring the development of the National eSport Development Guideline (NESDEG). The guideline was launched in partnership with Hannah Yeoh and the Ministry of Youth and Sport. It is designed to protect esports athletes and ensure the development of the esports industry in Malaysia. Goodday has also appointed xNova, Malaysia’s most successful esports athlete, as the face of its Goodday Charge revamped packaging. Goodday Charge is a specially formulated chocolate milk that contains vitamin B complex and essential nutrients and is touted to help esports athletes with sustained energy for better concentration and performance.

Submissions for the competition are ongoing and will end on April 8, 2024. If you’re a gamer, help your boomer understand your passion for gaming by submitting an entry for them.

ZOWIE’s XL2566K Packs TN 360Hz DyAc+ Technology for the Best FPS Experience Ever

In the world of fast-paced First Person Shooter (FPS) games, resolution is not everything. You want a display that responds as fast as you can move, you want everything to be fluid and clear as you pan your mouse everywhere to get your targets and still be precise. Since your opponents will be moving, a sharp image while you move is crucial for you to get the kill and be as accurate as possible. Of course, you want a fast-responding display too, one with the least input lag possible.

ZOWIE XL2566K 1
Source: BenQ

The XL2566K is BenQ’s latest ZOWIE gaming monitor made specifically with competitive FPS gamers and the big stage in mind. It is their flagship esports monitor which will no doubt find its way to competitive stages around the world. It packs 360Hz, which also means that CS:GO players can be even sharper than before with up to 360 frames every second projecting on their display.

Then there is DyAc+ technology that is proprietary to ZOWIE. It offers an added clarity in fast motions. Often, just refresh rate alone is not enough to ensure that your image is crystal clear and razor sharp in fast movements. You need a clever sharpening technology like DyAC+ to clean out your image and offer you extra details in the image. The result is a sharper image all around even when your target is at a distance.

It is not an IPS display though, instead you get the less premium TN and there is good reason for that. IPS displays can hit 360Hz in refresh rate, but there are disadvantages to IPS displays. Firstly, it’s response time is slower than that of TN panels. TN panels are also cheaper to produce, making the ZOWIE monitor a little more accessible. Secondly, TN panels offer a better and more reliable response times to IPS displays. The expense? Your picture quality and colours suffer a little bit. But this is the world of competitive FPS gaming. That means that your picture quality matters less, and performance is what you want.

They have also put a lot of thought in designing the product to be as ergonomic as possible for FPS gamers. The 24.5-inch display features a sturdy base that is optimally shaped to allow for a tighter mouse configuration. That not only allow FPS gamers to have a tighter set up for more precision, you take up less space on your desk too. Of course, the stand is height adjustable with tilt adjustment too. You can swivel it a little bit to create more room for your mousepad. It also comes with two side shield panels to ensure that you minimize glare from other light sources.

ZOWIE’s XL2566K is now available on BenQ’s official stores on Shopee and Lazada. You can get your hands on one as well at BenQ’s authorized resellers across the nation. It will set you back MYR 2,949, which is pretty steep for a Full HD monitor understandably. It is a rather niche display though, if you think about it. It serves a very specific purpose, that is to ensure that you are competitive. More information n the new ZOWIE XL2566K TN 360Hz DyAc+ monitor can be found on their website.

Razer Unleashes the DeathAdder V3 Pro – The Best Got Better

Razer started out their life by making a particular mouse. The purpose of the mouse they made was also rather specific. It is made with performance in mind, it is made for gamers. It is made so that users of the mouse in question gets competitive advantage in games, be it multiplayer or single player games.

At that time, the term eSports did not exist. The PC gaming industry was at its infancy and there were plenty of games that could be competitive games, but most games were focused on individual players. The term multiplayer only existed a little later with LAN capable games like Counter Strike. The Counter Strike franchise at this point is one of the most popular gaming titles available and is one of the biggest competitive gaming titles.

Gaming peripherals grew with the rise of competitive gaming. Razer, one of the pioneers of gaming specific gears, thrived with that. Of course, their product list also grew. As technology improves too, so did their products. Today, there is a new kid on the block, and it could be their more spectacular gaming mouse to date.

They introduced their DeathAdder V3 Pro, a wireless gaming mouse that is made specifically for competitive gaming. In other words, the DeathAdder V3 Pro is made specifically for eSports.

It is lighter now, more than ever. The DeathAdder V3 Pro only weighs in at 63 grams (64g if you go for white colorway). It is ergonomically shaped to fit the contour of your right palm in the most natural way for more comfortable extended use cases. They have improved ergonomics here as well; everything has been raised a little to ensure that the wrist is more elevated and in a better position. The buttons, scroll wheels, and palm support is slightly moved and raised to ensure that everything is easily reachable. The grooves on the sides allow for better grip and tactility.

All of these are done and designed with inputs from top eSports athletes Razer has access to. The contours and grooves are basically the result of plentty of development work with eSports athletes. The reduction in weight is also a direct result of that collaboration, obviously.

The Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3 offers a zero double-clicking and no debounce relay to ensure that every click is registered as that, clicks, at the highest speeds for up to 90 million clicks.

Razer’s DeathAdder V3 Pro features low-latency response times too thanks to Razer’s HyperSpped Wireless technology. Thanks to the new Razer HyperPolling Wireless Technology, the DeathAdder V3 Pro supports a polling rate of 1000Hz at 1ms intervals for responsiveness and smoothness comparable to wired mice. If that is not fast enough, you can get Razer’s HyperPolling Wireless Dongle for up to 4000Hz wireless polling rate.

The Razer Deathstalker V2 – Razer’s Ultimate Low-Profile Keyboard Comes for Round 2

Razer’s gaming peripherals are some of the most highly acclaimed products in the world of gaming. Sure, there are some products that is plagued with build quality issues. Razer as a brand is always associated with premium gaming peripherals though.

One of the most highly acclaimed peripherals in their stables is their Razer Deathstalker keyboard. It is a low-profile keyboard with chiclet style keys that struck well with Razer’s fans. The low-profile keyboard is designed to be as comfortable as possible to game on and to work with.

The first Deathstalker rolled out in 2014. The Deathstalker is now about eight years old now. Time for an upgrade, a version 2.

Top Class Connectivity
Source: Razer

The Deathstalker V2 line-up, as Razer calls it, is the evolution of the concept that was the original Deathstalker. It is still a low-profile keyboard, like the original. Except, the Deathstalker V2 line-up is also choke full of Razer’s eight years’ worth of R&D.

One of the new innovations packed into the latest Razer Deathstalker is also Razer’s latest. With the Deathstalker V2, Razer introduces their new low-profile optical switches. It still works like their original optical switches. It relies on an infra-red beam within the switches to register the keypresses at lightspeeds. The technology ensures that the keyboard is as responsive as it can be in gaming applications and even better typing experience.

Low-profile does not mean that the keyboard must feel less stellar than regular switches. It still features up to 1.2mm actuation point and 2.8mm of total travel. The two options, the Linear and Clicky variants of the switches also offer super light actuation force for speedy responses in intense gaming battles. The Linear actuates at 45 grams, while the Clicky variant actuates at 50 grams at 1.5mm actuation point. Razer also says that the switches can last up to 70 million key presses, supposedly 40% better than their competitors.

While the older Deathstalker comes with an attached wrist rest that cannot be removed. The new one does not. It is a low-profile keyboard designed to ensure that users do not need a wrist rest even in extended usage conditions. To ensure that the keyboard lasts a long time, the plate is made from 5052 aluminium material. It is there for that ‘thock’ as well, of course.

Topping everything off is a rather unique keycap. Of course, they have to be low-profile keycaps, just to fit the whole ‘low-profile’ look and feel. The keycaps are laser etched caps with a special coating to ensure that it is fade and scratch resistant, even more so than doubleshot PBT keycaps, according to Razer.

Of course, thanks to huge advancements in wireless technology, the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro and Deathstalker V2 Pro Tenkeyless comes with Razer’s Hyperspeed Wireless technology. Razer’s proprietary wireless technology ensures that the keyboard offers the lowest latencies even in wireless mode for a cable-like experience without the fuss of cable managing. If not, it offers Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity as well for low latency and extra stable connections with up to 3 devices at once.

The Deathstalker V2 Pro offers up to 40 hours of battery life. The Tenkeyless version offers even more battery life at 50 hours. No need to replace the batteries, they are both charge via a USB Type-C port. Of course, the Type-C cable can also be used as the main connection to your PC as well. Of course, the Deathstalker V2 line-up also comes with Razer’s Chroma RGB controllable via their Razer Synapse 3 software on the PC.
