Kaspersky has rolled out a new feature for its Android mobile app designed to tackle the growing threat of phishing attacks delivered through messaging apps and SMS. The new tool, called Notification Protection, acts as a proactive shield, identifying and removing scam and suspicious links directly from mobile notifications before a user even has a chance to click on them.

The introduction of this feature is a direct response to the increasing sophistication of phishing attempts. According to a recent Kaspersky report, AI tools are enabling scammers to create highly personalised and harder-to-track phishing messages, raising the level of danger for mobile users. In the first half of 2025 alone, Kaspersky’s existing anti-phishing systems blocked over two million attempts to access malicious links on Android devices worldwide. Notification Protection aims to bolster this defence by addressing a key vulnerability: the notification shade.
This new feature is part of Kaspersky’s multilayered security approach. It complements existing tools like ‘Safe Browsing’, which warns users about potential phishing sites within their browser, and ‘Safe Messaging’, which detects malicious links and displays a warning directly inside the messenger app. Notification Protection acts as the first line of defence, analysing incoming notifications from all apps, including popular services like Telegram, WhatsApp, and Viber. When a dangerous link is detected, the user receives an alert, helping them avoid the trap. The feature is designed to be always active, functioning even when the device’s screen is off or in “Do Not Disturb” mode.
Powering Kaspersky’s anti-phishing capabilities are advanced technologies, including a patented machine learning model and Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which can recognise malicious text hidden within images. The effectiveness of the new feature is already being demonstrated; since its technical launch, it has been activated by over 166,000 users and has already prevented clicks on more than 3,500 malicious links.
Marina Titova, Vice President of Consumer Business at Kaspersky, commented on the release, “It’s very easy to lose your guard in a message flow and click on a malicious link, becoming vulnerable to scammers. The new Notification Protection feature in Kaspersky for Android is aimed at eliminating this potential risk and alerting our customers about this hidden danger”.
Existing Kaspersky for Android users can activate Notification Protection in the latest version of the app. To turn it on, users need to navigate to the app’s menu, select ‘All features’, then the ‘Safe Messaging’ section, and toggle on ‘Check Notifications’. The app will then prompt for the necessary notification and accessibility permissions to function correctly.
