Sony Launches the Sony Xperia PRO-I – Camera Smartphone Redefined

Every now and then there will be an event so significant, it changes history. In the modern world, that moment happens way too often that it is no longer special. There are one or two rare innovations in today’s world though that makes you turn your heads. Today’s innovation is one of them.

The innovation comes in the form of a Sony Xperia smartphone. That might not sound too special. After all, the Sony Xperia smartphone, at some point, was responsible for Sony’s near exit from the smartphone business. While they pioneered and ushered in the era of water-resistant smartphones, they could not innovate fast enough or even make compelling enough products to compete with their rivals. The Sony Xperia has been reborn in 2018 though and is a completely different beast today. The Xperia PRO-I, this one is not in the same league as the Xperia flagship you know and love.

The Flagship

We start with the boring stuff. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 platform, which is expected anyway. It also comes with 512GB in storage and up to 12GB in RAM. You can slot up to a 1TB MicroSD card into the Xperia PRO-I for good measure. You want to if you are planning to use its camera a lot. Of course, you get WiFi 6 capabilities from the Xperia PRO-I. To keep everything running nicely is a 4,500mAh battery that can charge up to 50% within just 30 minutes.

On the front is a staple 4K display for the Xperia flagship. 4K HDR OLED display refreshes at 120Hz and measures at 6.5-inch. Protecting the panel is a Gorilla Glass Victus. It is not the biggest display you can find in the market, but it is certainly one of the most gorgeous.

To be fair, none of that are new for a smartphone. What is new is what protrudes out the back of the device. The innovation is all in the camera.

The Best Camera on a Smartphone Ever

This is not some boring innovation in the camera though. It is not some Megapixel addition, because Sony understands that with mobile photography, it is all about the sensor size more than anything else. That is why they fitted a Type-1.0 Exmor RS image sensor with phase detection autofocus mechanism within the compact body of the Xperia PRO-I. To process the photos out of the device, you get a dedicated Bionz X image processor that overrides the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888’s admittedly impressive image processing.

It is the same exact sensor you get from a Sony RX 100 VII. That also means you are getting 20.2-Megpixel of Sony’s Alpha goodness in the Xperia smartphone. The sensor under the 24mm Zeiss Tessar T* lens is capable of capturing images at RAW 12-bit colour depth as well for the best camera experience you can ever have on your smartphone. At the same time, it is Sony’s first smartphone to feature Eye AF that is so common in DSLR and mirrorless cameras these days.

The camera is even able to capture videos at 4K 120fps thanks to the very powerful imaging sensor. With up to 315 of autofocus points, you are going to keep track of your subjects for a long time in your videos and even your photos. For high-speed burst shots, you get to shoot at up to 20fps.

The Xperia PRO-I can do more than just allowing you to capture photos and videos from behind the camera though. It is also made as the perfect vlogging tool. You can pair it to an optional 3.5-inch LCD HD Vlog Monitor and the Xperia PRO-I turns into your vlogging companion without any additional heft in your bag. If you have an external microphone, the 3.5mm combo mic for you to plug in your mic to.

Price and Availability

The Sony Xperia PRO-I will be available in Malaysia December 2021 onward. It will be available only through selected retailers and online stores though. There is no confirmed price just yet for the Sony Xperia PRO-I though but Sony says they will announce it on a later date.

Now You Can Pin Links in Your Clubhouse Rooms

No matter what you say or whichever platform you say is better as a social voice chat platform, Clubhouse will still be ranked on top in terms of popularity and utilisation. It is also one of the platforms that consistently innovates in its space, even compared to the likes of Spotify Greenroom, or Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms. That is why, from time to time, Clubhouse introduces a new update that changes the way or expands the way you use clubhouse and interact with your friends on the platform.

With the most recent update, Clubhouse is making it possible for users to share external links. While this does not directly allow on-platform monetisation, it does allow some form of monetisation for plenty of users. For example, users now can pin Patreon links. There is even a possibility of linking Kickstarter and Indiegogo project links to the Clubhouse rooms that users create to talk about their latest projects, or pain points for example. For a lot of content creators, it is now possible to include their YouTube channel links, Podcast links, their own curated website, news portals, and even news articles.

links
Source: Clubhouse

There are of course limitations to what sort of links you can pin on the top of the room. Obviously, porn is frowned upon, so you cannot post links to porn websites to any rooms, even if you are talking about explicit subjects or the likes. Obviously as well, OnlyFans is one of those sites that are banned from Clubhouse link pinning feature.

As far as transactions that happens within the links, Clubhouse claims that they will not be taking any cuts or commissions from them. With that, Clubhouse is saying that they are working on multiple things to allow content creators on the platform to monetise their own contents on the app itself. The feature will be available soon on iOS and Android versions of the app. Clubhouse is available for free on both iOS and Android via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store respectively. For more information on Pinned Links feature on Clubhouse, you can find out more on their blog.

H3 Dynamics Launches World’s Most Advanced Drone Charging Station, Targets Automation of the Global Drone Services Industry

  • Agnostic to drone hardware & software, DBX opens to aerial analytics from around the world
  • UTM-ready & 5G-enabled, DBX is the first real step towards larger UAM vertiports of the future

SINGAPORE and PARIS and AUSTIN, Oct. 25, 2021 — H3 Dynamics announces the launch of DBX-G7, a brand new vertiport system for autonomous drone operations. Smarter, faster, and multi-modal with 5G and 4G, DBX was designed to scale on-going digitization efforts in safety compliance, maintenance and crisis management. Applications range from smart cities across Asia to various types of industrial sites worldwide.

new DBX-G7 autonomous and drone-agnostic charging station from H3 Dynamics

Developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, DBX-G7 is a direct response to the new tele-presence and remote work paradigm. DBX performs all the functions of an on-site drone pilot: navigation, docking, stowing, battery charging, data retrieval, transmission, and cloud-based processing. Autonomous systems such as DBX help reduce the need for on-site presence, and can help alleviate rising labor shortage pressures.

"With accelerating digitization, the need for structural scans is also growing while pilot availability is limited. We are looking to close the gap with our DBX autonomous drone stations." Says Samuel Chauffaille, head of H3 Dynamics’ robotics systems division.

H3 Dynamics has been deploying its AI-enabled digital inspection solutions to address the many thousands of high-rise buildings that require regular inspections in Singapore, most of which use using piloted drone operations. The company has expanded its solution through strategic partnerships, including on a SAP connectivity to send repair work orders directly from H3 Dynamics’ digital platform (see video). Enterprise software giant SAP and H3 Dynamics are now working together on an increasing number of industrial use cases.

Through its global partnership with air traffic control leader THALES, H3 Dynamics is working on real time airspace integration through a multi-pronged approach around the world. DBX is the start of autonomous urban air mobility – one that builds immediate commercial experience with lower risk, 5-kg drones operations, a living laboratory for cities considering 4-5-ton air taxis designed to carry passengers

"What makes DBX really unique, is its open-architecture philosophy. Unlike other closed environments that restrict users to a single drone type – DBX can host professional drones from different manufacturers, and support multiple communication protocols and operating standards." – says Taras Wankewycz, H3 Dynamics’ Founder and CEO.

This enables a broad universe of existing use cases and client requirements across geographies– from solar farms to precision agriculture, critical infrastructure maintenance, utilities, buildings, perimeter security, and many more.

"DBX will accelerate the global drone economy and existing solution developers anywhere in the world. Just like with smartphones help deploy the mobile app economy, H3 Dynamics’ DBX will deploy the global drone analytics economy".

About the new DBX-G7:    please visit https://dbx.h3dynamics.com

United Nations Day: Moviebook Leverages Digital Technologies to Contribute to Sustainable Development Goals

BEIJING, Oct. 24, 2021 — Moviebook, a leading AI-powered intelligent video production infrastructure and service provider, is responding to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by leveraging its intelligent video production and digital twin technologies to accelerate the establishment of a digital economy and propel low-carbon economic development. U Power ties up with Bosch to collaborate on Super Board technology

The Intelligent EV tech startup completes Pre-A+ funding round

SHANGHAI, Oct. 23, 2021 — U Power, a Chinese Smart EV technology startup, has recently entered into a strategic agreement with German multinational engineering and technology company Bosch, whereby the two companies will collaborate on intelligent vehicle board technology to support the development of U Power’s "UP Super Board." At the same time, the startup has announced the completion of a Pre-A+ round of funding, led by Bosch’s market-oriented investment platform Boyuan Capital. This investment was the third round of financing received by U Power since its inception five months ago and Boyuan Capital’s first investment since being established.

Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. EVP Xu Daquan said: "Intelligent electric vehicle development has entered a critical period with platform-level technology guidance and innovation on track to become a new focus for development. One of the key items to come out as a result of these technological advances is the integrated vehicle board that can meet both hardware and software demands for modularization and intelligence, a feature that can greatly reduce production cost and R&D time. U Power is a partner with the right R&D and manufacturing strengths to produce such a component. We are looking forward to working with U Power on furthering integrated chassis technology and supporting the development of China’s intelligent EV industry."

As the lead investor in U Power’s Pre-A+ funding round, Boyuan Capital managing partner and CEO Zhu Lin said the value of traditional automotive supply chains has been changed with the arrival of intelligent automotive manufacturing. While many new players have entered the field, U Power has the right technology in place and therefore looks to be among the most promising. U Power’s proprietary UP Super Board is a breakthrough product that can greatly empower car manufacturing as the sector enters a new stage, greatly shorten the time needed for R&D, and meet the rapid launch and diversified market needs of intelligent EVs in different scenarios. With its many years in its role as a Tier 1 auto supplier and a complete vehicle manufacturer now deeply ingrained in its DNA, the U Power team will bring to the table a whole new approach to intelligent vehicle R&D and a highly imaginative business model for the automotive business chain, alongside its market-leading chassis products, to further reduce costs and increase efficiency. The two companies, as a result of the collaboration, will have a huge head start as the era of intelligent electric vehicle unfolds.

U Power, with its vast experience in manufacturing vehicles under multiple real-life scenarios, will reinvent the entire vehicle development process by moving to a modularization approach whereby the chassis is divided from the body. By redefining the fundamental approach, technical norms and supply chain, U Power’s proprietary UP Super Board can be customized to meet different hardware standards and software platforms, increasing R&D and manufacturing productivity. The existence of the UP Super Board is expected to shorten R&D time to one year and reduce production costs by up to 60%.

Today, China’s intelligent EV industry is exposed to increasingly fierce competition between traditional vehicle makers, new car manufacturers and technology companies. Advances in vehicle modularization and intelligence have made possible the body-chassis-separated manufacturing model. Some international start-ups are already working in this area in collaboration with major automakers. In China, the concept of the "super board" remains fresh. It is an open secret in the industry that more than 50% of the bill of materials (BOM) cost of intelligent EVs is concentrated in the power chassis, opening the door to  the creation of a new "species" like the super board. U Power founder Li Peng said there are many companies from diverse backgrounds that are eager to enter the mobility space, but what holds them back are the high barriers. U Power looks forward to seeing the UP Super Board technology create a level playing field for all those that seek to enter.
