International Consortium iTrazo, Persequor, Tive Delivers Digital Traceability Solutions to APAC

APAC companies anticipate end-to-end IoT traceability solution to track and trace products moving through supply chains

MELBOURNE, Australia, COPENHAGEN, Denmark and BOSTON, April 1, 2021iTrazo, Persequor and Tive – a consortium of digital supply chain experts from Australia, Denmark and the United States have formed an alliance that will deliver supply chain transparency and serve the traceability needs of customers across the region. For safety, quality, sustainability or provenance – a product’s end-to-end journey, visibility has become a base expectation for most companies, customers, and consumers.

The partners bring together a data-rich ecosystem of collaborative and complementary offerings within track and trace, traceability, customer engagement and visibility. "By working with the consortium, companies have immediate access to multi-sensor trackers, track and trace platforms, mobile Apps, sophisticated repositories and a multitude of software specifically created for optimal and actionable granular traceability," said Ron Volpe, SVP International Markets for Persequor.

Reeanjou Ram, iTrazo’s CEO and Founder, feels strongly about collaborations, as she believes the right partnerships bring innovation and cost efficiencies. Reeanjou explains, "joining forces ensures readily available end-to-end solutions. Our traceability platform is complemented by Persequor’s SAGA repositories and software, all based on EPCIS standards. Track and trace events can be stored, monitored and analyzed from origin to consumption, enabling businesses to track billions of unique items, products and events."

Tive provides cost-effective access to IoT tracking devices and insights. Many IoT devices are still in the very early stages of development and can be a costly addition to customers seeking multiple trace technology input. IoT addresses greater convenience, higher efficiency, improved quality of production and better utilization of crucial event data. The emergence of high-performance and cost-effective IoT devices such as those offered by Tive gives our customers more opportunities and options to transform their products.

Tive delivers an additional layer of load-sensing data from its Solo™ 5G trackers on shipment location and condition – temperature, light, humidity and shock. Meaningful insight data on carrier and route performance streams in real time as trackers are deployed on thousands of global shipments, making it easier for businesses to track and monitor their in-transit goods Globally. "We believe that iTrazo, Persequor and Tive each uniquely contribute to the consortium’s offering, as collaboration and open access is a strong driver for Tive who has partnered to create the Open Visibility Network (OVN) that increases visibility data across various platforms to benefit everyone involved in global supply chains," said Hany Amer, Director APAC, Tive.

The organic growth of ecosystems of supply chain partners with a common objective is not a new way of doing business, going back to the movement of goods via the Silk Road through Central Asia. Also not new, though slightly newer, is the role technology plays in creating new value through partnerships. What is new is the realization during 2020 that digitization is no longer an option to manage today’s supply chains, which in turn encouraged iTrazo, Persequor and Tive to partner and innovate together to bring digital traceability solutions to companies across APAC.

Attack of the Clubhouse Clones – Spotify, LinkedIn & Discord Enter the Foray

Clubhouse is arguably the largest buzz word in social media right now. The audio only social media app has been in the news thanks to technopreneurs like Elon Musk. That said, the platform has gained momentum due to its ability of bringing like-minded people together to speak and interact. The platform has become somewhat of a sanctuary for those looking for fun conversations, support and even escape – the three things that people are sorely lacking during the pandemic.

Thanks to the popularity of Clubhouse, we’ve seen a slew of other platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram come up with their own takes on the concept. The most recent was the launch of Instagram’s Live Rooms and Twitters Spaces. The latter launched earlier this month. Twitter’s Space rolled out to iOS and a limited number of Android users when it was initially discovered; many of whom were unable to host their own Spaces. However, it looks like more of us will be able to host Spaces and soon.

Source: Discord

If Twitter isn’t your groove, it looks like Discord has rolled out a new feature called Stage Channels which bring the same features to the forefront of the platform. The new Stage Channels allow users to have and sit in on live, moderated conversations. Unlike its normal channels, Stage Channels highlight the speakers while others join in the conversation as part of the audience. Audience members will have access to a raise hand button which allows them to indicate to the moderators that they wish to speak. Moderators will also be able to invite audience members to speak. Yep – that’s pretty much Clubhouse on Discord. However, the biggest difference between what Discord is doing is that the Stage Channels feature is available across all versions of their app now.

Spotify, on the other hand, isn’t reinventing the wheel. Instead, the company has acquired Betty Labs, the company behind the live sports audio app, Locker Room. The app is already available on iOS and will be making its way to Android in the near future. It will also serve a wider range of audiences with the topic focus expanding from only sports talk. The company sees the app as a natural complement to the Spotify app allowing creators to interact directly and in real-time with their audiences.

According to a statement from Gustav Söderström to The Verge, Chief R&D Officer at Spotify, the app will remain separate from the main Spotify app. However, it will be rebranded in the near future. The app will also allow all users to host their own session – not just approved users. With users already uploading recordings of their sessions on Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces to Anchor, Spotify’s podcast publishing tool. It looks like the app will streamline the process allowing users a more unified experience and feed the growing podcast ecosystem on Spotify.

Source: LinkedIn

While both Spotify, Twitter and Discord are looking at creating a platform for a wide, diverse range of content, LinkedIn is looking enhancing your professional profile. The company is introducing a “Creator” mode that allows you to get followers on your profile. The new profile will allow users to be followed in a similar way to the pages on Facebook. However, in addition to this, LinkedIn seems to be working on a similar Clubhouse-like approach to live audio content that it believes will be a good complement to a professional profile.

So, with more and more companies releasing their own versions of Clubhouse – where do you, our reader fall with the rise of live audio? Are you going to be taking part in the conversation? Which platform will you be using?

Lenovo Launches 2nd Generation ThinkBook PCs in Malaysia

We like Lenovo notebooks; we never make that a secret. We think that they really know how to make great notebook PCs. In fact, we own Lenovo notebook PCs ourselves.

We thought that one of their most interesting products was their ThinkBook. It was made with productivity and durability in mind. The excellent keyboard is a bonus too.

Lenovo has launched the new generation ThinkBook in Malaysia. This is technically the second generation of the brilliant notebook series. The last generation was two years ago.

This time as well, they launched three new notebooks in their ThinkBook series. They launched the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 i, the ThinkBook 14s Yoga i, and ThinkBook 15 Gen 2 i. Yes, they are all in three different sizes.

Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 i

The Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 i comes packing Intel’s 11th Generation Core processors. It will also come with Intel’s new Iris Xe Graphics, which also means that it should be one powerful notebook PC. Of course, these things also mean that the Lenovo ThinkBook 13s is an Intel EVO certified platform.

True to its name, it has a 13.3-inch display. You can opt for a an WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) display. The display is also a unique 16:10 ratio, which also means that it is somehow just a little more compact than before.

To make the notebook even more of a productivity beast, Lenovo packs Thunderbolt 4 so you can connect to an external display when you need to. You can also opt for a 4th Generation PCIe storage unit for a quicker workflow. Of course, it has all-day battery to keep you running through your workday.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga Gen 2 i

If you need something even more flexible to work with, there is the Yoga variant of the ThinkBook series. The Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga will be the perfect device for you to work with in any situation.

Of course, this 14-inch convertible packs Intel’s latest generation Core processors. It also packs Intel’s Iris Xe Graphics to boot as well. That mostly means that you can get more than just word processing or powerpoints done with the notebook.

Convertible also means that you get a nice touch display and the benefit of a stylus on the Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga. The Smart Pen, as Lenovo calls it, docks with the device as well so you do not risk losing your stylus in the abyss of your bag or misplacing it in a coffee shop somewhere.

Lenovo ThinkBook 15 Gen 2 i

The largest ThinkBook in the series is the ThinkBook 15. The Gen 2 device packs a large 15.6-inch display as per its name. While this looks like a plain notebook, it is more than that though. It comes packing integrated wireless earbuds which can be stored within the notebook.

The notebook acts as a charging case too in this case. The moment you pull the earbuds out, the earbuds connect to the notebook instantly. This could really help when you need to take your video calls on the go.

Of course, it packs Intel’ 11th Generation Intel Core processors and Intel’s Iris Xe Graphics for all the modern power you need in a mobile platform. For more flexibility, you get to opt for a combination of an HDD and SSD, or just go with two SSDs to get the best out of the notebook. Of course, because of the larger footprint, you have a full-sized keyboard with number keys.

Price and Availability

The Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 i, ThinkBook 14s Yoga i, and Think Book 15 Gen 2 i will be available in Malaysia April 2021 onward at all Lenovo exclusive stores nationwide. The ThinkBook 14s Yoga i will come with a limited-edition Abyss Blue variant, while stocks last. Lenovo’s ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 i will start at MYR 3,599. The ThinkBook 14s Yoga i starts at MYR 3,819, while the ThinkBook 15 Gen 2 i starts at MYR 2,519. For more information, you can visit Lenovo’s website.

Applications of Location-Based & Geospatial Intelligence Data

NEW YORK, April 1, 2021 — Enterprises, government agencies, and law enforcement use Cobwebs Technologies‘ geospatial data and spatial analysis to get location intelligence, which is a powerful tool to understand situations or events, get insight into, e.g., where events take place and who is involved to make informed decisions. Companies use location intelligence to, e.g., pinpoint optimal locations for their brick-and-mortar stores, government agencies use it in time of, e.g., natural disasters such as wildfires, and law enforcement uses it to identify the locations of threat actors, crime syndicates, criminal acts, and mass events turning into riots. In other words, location-based data provides unique insights, reveals hidden relationships, patterns, and trends that are crucial for follow-up.

In general, harnessing geospatial data requires a geospatial intelligence platform. Collecting enormous amounts of location-based data on the surface, deep, and dark web is extremely labor-intensive. Due to limited budgets and time restraints, a user-friendly WEBINT platform is needed that scrapes from all layers of the web, analyzes the collected data, and presents the actionable results in a user-friendly GUI. The cutting-edge location solution of Cobwebs Technologies automatically reveals and analyzes location-based data using interactive maps. It only collects open-source data to comply with the stringent statutory rules and regulations regarding data protection. This allows analysts and investigators to efficiently generate intelligent insights from the huge amounts of hidden and complex OSINT data. Connecting open-source web data with live and real-world information is a valuable addition to analyses and investigations.

A geospatial intelligence platform, such as the WebLoc from Cobwebs Technologies, provides real-world insights into locations and data that are of interest to analysts and investigators. The unique capabilities of such a platform enable location-based information to get location intelligence and investigative reports. The platform is designed to meticulously race through and scan endless digital channels from the web ecosystem, collecting and analyzing huge amounts of location-based data in any specified geographic location. This information is then displayed on a simple and map-centric interface which allows users to conduct a map-based and visual investigation.

The interactive map allows for filtering and analyzing data for gaining vital intelligence. This way, location-based structures and unstructured data from a large range of sources reveal various threats, including off-the-grid threat actors. Analysts and investigators can also use the collected and analyzed data for geofencing in order to discover relations between seemingly non-related data points. The platform also allows users to get historical data and use analytic tools for getting actionable insights. By collecting and analyzing real-time location intelligence using non-intrusive methods, threats can be identified for quick action. Furthermore, hidden connections are revealed, combining location-based data and open-source information and presenting it in an interactive multi-layered map for government agencies and law enforcement to take quick action.

With location-based intelligence using a WEBINT platform informed decisions can be made without setting foot on the ground, based on the generated dynamic reports. These automated real-time reports are the result of various location-based filtering inputs.

To summarize, location-based and geospatial intelligence data are crucial for analyses and investigations to make informed decisions. Only a geospatial intelligence platform can provide analysts and investigators with the location-based intelligence they need.

Crypto.com Visa Card Spending Grew 55% Per User in 2020, Online Spending Up 117%

For the first time, Crypto.com shares transaction data for its Visa Card, showing strong growth in overall user spending, especially for online purchases and cross-border transactions

HONG KONG, April 1, 2021 — Today, Crypto.com released its Consumer Spending Insights Report for 2020, which details spending trends and data for its Visa Card—the most widely-available card of its kind in the world. The first look into spending trends for the Crypto.com Visa Card, the report found that overall spending per user in 2020 grew 55% YoY, with a 117% increase in online spending relative to overall spending growth, notably for the categories of housing, household goods, groceries, and cross-border transactions. Cardholders shopped with merchants in 143 countries, nearly half of which are in the U.S. (24%) or in the UK (23%). The report reveals strong overall growth for the card, and significant changes in user spending habits resulting from  the pandemic.

As the pandemic began spreading globally early last year, spending with the Crypto.com Visa Card followed a similar trajectory to the OECD’s Consumer Confidence Index (see chart below), with drops in both occurring in the first four months of 2020. As consumer confidence returned (yellow line), Crypto.com Visa Card spending per user (blue line) recovered quickly, ending the year with 55% more spending than 2019.

Spending Categories

Among all spending categories for the Crypto.com Visa Card in 2020, groceries saw the most growth, increasing from 17% to 20% during the year. Meanwhile, the share of spending on restaurants and transportation fell below 10% (see chart below).

Spending habits were also impacted by border restrictions and quarantine measures, as billions of people were forced to limit travel and in-person activities. Compared to overall growth, housing and household goods spending rose 47% in 2020, while spending on hotels and dining fell behind with -21% growth.

Additionally, 2020 spending on travel, dining, and ticketing all saw significantly negative growth, with ticketing experiencing the worst decline at -50% since 2019.

Online vs. In-Store

Overall, online spending with the Crypto.com Visa Card grew 117% relative to overall growth. Despite the pandemic, in-store spending also rose, but by a more moderate 33%, indicating an overall increase of card usage for a wide range of purchases.

Kris Marszalek, Co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com said: "As our Crypto.com Visa Card availability continues to expand globally, so too are the ways in which people are using it. This granular spending data gives tremendous insight into where, how, and for what purchases the card is being used globally, and reveals significant spending behavioral changes driven by the pandemic. We’re excited by the diversity of transactions shown in the data, as crypto continues its mainstream push and as we continue to expand what is already the most widely available card of its kind into more markets."

First introduced in Singapore in 2018, the Crypto.com Visa Card is the largest Visa card program of its kind, and is currently available in the U.S., Canada, 31 countries in Europe, and the APAC. Last month, Crypto.com expanded its partnership with Visa, which granted the company Visa principal membership. This new partnership enables Crypto.com to begin direct issuance of its card in Australia, and allows the company to have a direct relationship with cardholders. Crypto.com plans to scale its card program to many more markets around the world, and began offering virtual cards in Europe this month, so users can start spending without waiting for their physical cards to arrive.

WWDC 2021 is Happening! Purely an Online Affair from June 7, 2021 Onward!

The Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is a huge yearly ensemble for Apple. The annual conference is one of Apple’s most significant in a year. We see Apple upping the ante for WWDC every year too, and this year is no different. Apple this year is looking to make WWDC21 the biggest one yet.

WWDC is where we see the evolution, or the new iterations of Apple’s software. You can expect to see a new macOS, tvOS, watchOS, iOS, and even iPadOS. Sometimes, you might get to see some new hardware, or get an announcement as big as hardware dependency change like last year’s announcement. If you forgot, WWDC20 saw Apple announcing that they are moving away from relying on partner processors and move their supply chain to rely on their own Apple Silicon processors. Later in the year 2020 we saw the Apple M1 chip.

2020’s WWDC was also completely online due to the global situation that is the pandemic. There are some good that came out of last year’s WWDC though. It was accessible to everyone in the world, no matter their location or time zone. Last year’s WWDC was what Apple claimed to be its largest ever so far. They are expecting around 28 million developers around the world to tune in for this year’s WWDC.

While hardware has not been much of a focus for WWDC, we should not be surprised when Apple does make some announcements on hardware additions to their line-up. In 2019 and 2017, Apple launched new devices and even desktops during their WWDC keynotes. As usual also, there are no new details on what Apple will announce this year at WWDC. Although, some are speculating that Apple might launch their long-awaited AR glasses or some sort of VR headset. These are rumours based on the visuals Apple chose for this year’s WWDC21 tease.

Apple’s WWDC 21 is happening 7th June 2021 onward all the way to the 11th of June 2021. As per the current pandemic situation and like 2020, the event will be an all-virtual affair. For more information on WWDC21 you can head over to their website.

Chinese cities feature prominently in global Top 50 Smart City Government rankings

Seven Chinese cities emerge among the top 50 smart city governments worldwide

SINGAPORE, March 31, 2021 — Seven Chinese cities – Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Chongqing – clinched spots in the second edition of the Top 50 Smart City Government rankings released by Eden Strategy Institute.

Four of these cities – Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou – are new entrants into the Top 50, signifying the rapid pace of urbanisation, technological growth, and smart city development within the country.

The Top 50 Smart City Government ranking focuses on the role of city governments in driving smart city development. The study aims to shed light on the importance of strategy, leadership, people-centricity, policies, ecosystem, incentives, and talent in determining the success and effectiveness of technologies deployed in smart cities, moving beyond evaluating the efficacy and outcomes of technological solutions applied by cities.

More than 230 cities were evaluated and examined by Eden, with city governments invited to submit supporting details, reports, and outcomes of their smart city strategies in a global-wide Call for Proposals during the study. Interviews were then conducted with smart city officials to validate facts and gather more in-depth insights about their unique challenges and pathways in smart city building. The information collected through extensive research by Eden, the Call for Proposals, and the interviews with smart city officials were then used to holistically assess cities.

"Top smart city governments in the 2020/2021 rankings were able to collaborate and partner with public and private sector stakeholders; use digital solutions and data to deliver services and make decisions; all while considering implications on inclusion and citizen trust", says Mr. Calvin Chu Yee Ming, Managing Partner at Eden Strategy Institute.

The 2020/2021 edition also highlights a regional showcase of emerging smart cities which were not featured in the Top 50 rankings. "We also wanted to celebrate how other smart cities across the region excelled in a particular aspect, including their unique and creative efforts to launch smart city initiatives within their city, even though they were not part of the Top 50," explains Mr. Chu.

One of the most distinct elements of Chinese governments’ smart city strategies is the large focus on talent development, with city governments expending significant efforts to attract and retain top talent within their cities to drive smart city innovation and to increase technological competitiveness.

Singapore emerged top in the rankings alongside Seoul, London, Barcelona, and Helsinki; cities which were not only advanced in terms of technologies adopted throughout the city, but in their government’s efforts to bring the city population along their digitalisation journey. Globally, eighteen new cities were welcomed into the Top 50 list, including cities such as Tallinn, Oslo, and Moscow.
