ZTE has recently announced five new smartphones for the Malaysian market. The devices all run on the latest Android 4.4 (KitKat) and are within an affordable price range. Lets take a look at the new devices.
ZTE Blade VEC Pro
The Blade VEC Pro is the first of the two mid range devices. It runs on a 1.4 GHz MediaTek processor with 1GB of RAM to boot. It sports a 5-inch 720p display with a pixel density of 293ppi. Other features include a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, 8GB of storage, 2300 mAh battery and dual SIM slots. The Blade VEC Pro retails for RM 788.
ZTE Blade V5
A toned down version of the Blade VEC Pro, the Blade V5 carries a weaker 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor but instead sports a 2400 mAh battery. The rest of the specifications are as the VEC Pro and it retails for RM 688.
ZTE Star 1
And now we move on to the flagship, the ZTE Star 1. The Star 1 is powered by a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 processor supplemented with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded with microSD up to 64GB. The display is a 5-inch full HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The cameras are 8MP rear and 5MP front facing with the device bundled with Android 4.4.2 out of the box. To keep things running, a 2300 mAh battery is used. Although the specifications are not exactly groundbreaking in today’s smartphone market, the ZTE Star 1 retails at a modest RM 1088, which is light on the wallet for those looking for a smartphone with some punch to it.
ZTE Blade L2
The Blade L2 is considered an entry level device. Though powered by the 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor, the 5-inch display has a lower resolution at 854×440 pixels, the cameras are weaker at 5MP rear and VGA front, lower storage of 4GB and a 2000 mAh battery. It retails for RM 488.
ZTE Blade G Lux
The Blade G Lux is also an entry level device and is the most affordable at just RM 388. A smaller 4.5-inch 854×480 resolution display covers a dual-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor. It has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, expandable by microSD. Cameras are also 5MP rear and VGA front facing.
ZTE is planning to make waves in the affordable smartphone market and with aggressive moves like this, who knows how far they can go.
