Here Comes the Xiaomi!
Disregard product launches. No, this is not a new product announcement from Xiaomi nor is it an announcement for new shipments into Malaysia. The title sounds like it suggests that but it does not mean that. What is going on then?
We all in Malaysia would know by now that Xiaomi is actually doing well in Malaysia, selling out batches, after batches, and batches of Xiaomi Mi3s, power banks, and most recently the Redmis. With that said Xiaomi is not only doing well in Malaysia, in its own local market, China it is doing mighty well. A while ago we reported that Xiaomi’s phone sales in China is actually overtaking Samsung’s sales figures in the same region. Today however it looks like top market share holders, which was Samsung got dethroned by Xiaomi. Just yesterday they topped the market share by owning 14 percent of the market compared to Samsung’s 12 percent. So how are they doing that? Simple, release feature packed super phones into the market at prices slightly above cost and the sales will come in flocks.
This gets even better; Xiaomi has recently also just climbed on the ladder of who owns the most market share in the world. Xiaomi is now ranked fifth and is very close to Lenovo in terms of market share in the world. This is mostly due to Xiaomi launching and expanding in the South East Asian market. What’s more is that Xiaomi’s market share numbers will continue to grow as Xiaomi will be expanding into more markets in the very near future.
As reported earlier Xiaomi have sold about 26.1 million devices in the first half of the year. They aim to sell 60 million smartphones by the end of the year. Pretty ambitious for a small manufacturing firm from China, but then again to achieve the sales number like 26 million smartphones in six months is no small feat. It is also quite amazing for Xiaomi to actually gain so much market share considering that they only started up three years ago. Even with these achievements there is no sign of this Chinese manufacturer slowing down anytime soon with the release of their new Mi4 which is set to be released to the market soon. In this case, the sky is really the limit for Xiaomi.
