Xiaomi’s very first phone running on Android Go program has been launched in Malaysia. The Android Go is a program that has been launched by Google back in 2017 to cater to affordable smartphones with minimum specifications requirements. The Redmi Go uses an older version of Android Go namely Android Oreo (Go edition). That said, all Android Go versions are built to run on 512MB to 1GB of RAM and a small storage space ranging from 8GB to 16GB. Even though Android Go is made for phones with low requirements to run as efficient as possible, it still has everything you recognise and love from normal Android Operating System. You can even download applications of your desire from the Play Store.
So with this in mind what does Redmi Go has to offer with a price tag of only RM299. Redmi Go features a 5-inch LCD display with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The screen has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels which is little but still in the High Definition resolution category. To process all the imagery and applications efficiently, Xiaomi has opted for Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. This entry level processor is powerful and efficient that it is also used in many other phone brands for their models. Xiaomi has decided to give the Redmi Go with all the RAM it can take so it get a 1GB RAM and an optional internal storage space of either 8GB or 16GB. But 16GB is still too small for most, do not worry as Xiaomi has got you covered. It has expandable storage that can add up to 128GB via a microSD.
For a small and efficient phone, the Redmi Go comes with a 3,000mAh battery that is going to last you for quite a while. So do get yourself busy as Xiaomi’s tagline for the Redmi Go is “Go Smart, Do More”. You can keep yourself busy as the phone comes with a single module camera of 8MP for the rear. The rear camera even has a LED flash for the lighting you need. To its credit it does do video recording in 1080p. The front camera, on the other hand, is a 5MP camera module with an aperture of f/2.2 to capture more light.
Given that it is an efficient budget phone, it still does come with dual nano-SIM slots, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth connectivity and even an 3.5mm audio jack. The Redmi Go is going on sale starting from 13 April 2019 priced at RM299. It will only be available in black colour.
