Last year, XiaoMi revealed their Androlid-powered TV that is 49-inch and 4K Smart TV for about US$645 (MYR2,380). This year, XiaoMi releases a new entry range smart TV: a 40-inch TV with 1080p version of Mi 2 TV. This time round, it’s even more affordable with the price of US$322 (MYR1190).
Generally, the TV is based on Sharp’s SDP X-GEN LED panel that offers a 5000:1 contrast ratio. The TV will be powered by MStar 6A908 SoC that is built from four Cortex-A9 CPU cores, and a Mali 450 M4 GPU. It is also backed with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. It will also come with Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound and a H.265 10-bit hardware decoder. This will support common FLV, MKV, MOV, MP4, & AVI video formats.
As a smart TV, it will have a MIUI customized Android operating system. Thus, you’re able to bring media streaming and gaming to the big screen. The current Android platform is based on Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Reports are saying that it will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon.
The TV will be launched at the end of this month, more specifically on 31st March through Xiaomis’s Chinese online store. Sadly, the Mi TV 2 wasn’t announced outside China regions yet. But rumors say India might get XiaoMi’s TV ranges somewhere later this year.
